  • Summary: The Hamlet may have fallen on hard times, but the creak of wagons and blare of abused trumpets signals a change in fortune for the bold and meek alike: the Circus is in town!

The DLC is designed those who admire the unpredictable and in-depth mechanics of the base game, and want to push their knowledge, skill, and patience to their limits in a mirrored match against other players. Most of the mechanics of the base game are still usable with some tweaks, along with some new editions that provide for a surprisingly tight game balance.

Stress is still a worry for the heroes, with some attacks doing up to 60 total stress across the whole party. This means heart attacks may be common in your pursuit of blood and glory. The existence of the two related health-bars preserves DD’s unique combat nuance and charm.

Unfortunately, the studio’s first foray in to the multiplayer space has been tenuous to to start. The player is likely to experience multiple desyncs and undeserved-victories as the game bugs out and shows both players that the other surrendered. Mind you, the DLC is in its first week out at the time of writing.

Yet, these bugs only seem to add to the great unpredictability of the DD combat system, and I’m hopeful the reputable studio will iron out any issues.

This game will elicit great emotion from you as you crit the other player’s vestal for all their health, only to lose your Bounty Hunter to an unlucky “Death’s Door” check. Trinkets and party compositions provide for a myriad of strategies and builds, all while you try to get in to the opponents head and predict their next move. The game already stands pretty decent even with the bugs, and I’m excited to see this project realize it’s potential after a few more patches and updates.
