Minor bugs since launch. Amazing story. The game looks phenomenal. Playing a stealth net runner is so much fun. One of the best RPGs of all time. Also, Keanu.

This is a review of the game's state at launch and will update that if it improves substantially later on. I'll preface this by saying I've been an enormous fan of CDPR and Cyberpunk for many years and it sucks to be this disappointed with something I was so excited for.

The critics giving this anything over a 7 were very obviously paid. This is easily the buggiest game I have ever

This is easily the buggiest game I have ever played and I'm shocked it passed certification to release, let alone came from a studio that is known for caring about the quality of their games (queue 'not very polished for a Polish game' joke). Within an hour of play I had hit 6 different progression blocking bugs ("fixed" by rebooting the game), countless graphical/loading bugs, and was blown away by how shallow the game was. After a couple more hours of play I have still seen nothing special about this game, it is not the "most fascinating city in videogame history so far" as IGN puts it, and it does not raise the bar in any way. The prologue we were promised as a Street Kid, Corpo, or Nomad literally lasts 5 minutes. The AI is nearly nonexistent. Interact with NPCs for a second and the simulation crumbles around you. There is no RPG here. Cyberpunk runs, looks, and plays like a game that came out in the year 2000. Getting this to run well on PC is a crap shoot: you either get lucky and have no problems or it's a balancing act of checking Reddit and asking your friends what settings worked for them. Worst of all, the marketing and communication surrounding this game over the years has been nothing but deceitful. They promised some incredible features up until launch day and failed to deliver nearly all of them. This wasn't an understandable issue of "changes during development", but CDPR lying to its fans until launch day. This was so obviously a failure on the part of management/production and it makes me incredibly sad and angry that this is what we waited for. Their project scope was sky high and it looks as if they cut back on nearly all levels. In the end I'm left wondering, "What were they even *doing* for the past 8 years?" Tweeting?

Because some of what I just shared can be ignored as the angry ramblings of an emotional fan, here are some of the biggest issues and bugs that I've seen at launch:

    - Lifeless AI. There's nothing hand crafted about the NPCs, they don't behave in interesting ways, they don't have their own "schedules" or plans as advertised. Show the slightest bit of aggression or fire at enemies nearby and they'll forever stay in a crouched, cowering animation. Literally forever, they don't snap out of it even after they've been saved from gang members or the threat is neutralized. Driving AI is nowhere to be seen as well. Leave your car in the middle or even the side of the street and traffic is backed up for miles. NPCs will stop at green stoplights and never start driving again. This is classically seen in games in Alpha or Beta stages but at release? That shouldn't happen.

    [Link omitted per site rules]

    - Graphical issues. My character is always bald when looking in a mirror, ignoring all hair and clothing. Most mirrors are completely broken, displaying a black box. Character detail is lacking and blurry. LOD pop-in and graphical glitches are everywhere. Placeholder DEBUG text can literally be seen everywhere in the game.

    [Link omitted per site rules]

    - Next to no character customization (on both personality and visual levels). Your V will look and act essentially the same as everyone else's V. Cyberpunk promised much more than this. Tattoo, limb, body enhancements... everything is either lacking or missing entirely.

    - Too many missing quality of life features to list, please see the following thread:
    [Link omitted per site rules]
Cyberpunk literally needed another 6 months to a year of dev time and that still wouldn't fix the missing features and content that were advertised. They knew this was coming and didn't let reviewers use their own gameplay footage before launch to minimize losses. CDPR has absolutely tarnished their reputation, but I'm sure they'll support the game for years to come. At the moment though I would not recommend this game in the slightest and I hope they take this seriously.

The story is perfect, the replayability is perfect (im on second replay with a mod menu), gameplay could use some new weapons and is a bit stiff, city is amazing only gripe is those god damn NPC ragdolls (they are so flimsy and die easily please fix the NPCs), and finally the performance on my i7 CPU with a GPU of AMD RX XFX 5700 XT with high textures, mostly medium settings (with some high and some low), 1440p Resolution, and with Dynamic FidelityFX CAS at MIN 90 MAX 100, I get an average of 55 - 70 fps. On my first play through I had the same settings but on high settings WITHOUT Dynamic FidelityFX CAS and I STILL got an avg of 40-55fps. The bugs are noticeable but the only ones that seems to stick out in the mainstream are the scene where a main character dies in a car and they have nothing in their hand when they are supposed to be giving you something and the other one is a lady after a side quest ends (the one where u and her go to the docks) stands in place and starts a walking animation but then it cuts half way through and it does this over and over. Also it has multiple endings depending on the certain side quests you do. I got an ending that imo, is the best but I want to play again and definitely try to get another one. Overall, after some free DLC and bug fixes within the next 6 months it is easily a 10/10 and on the same level of a game as RDR2 but for now because the DLC and bug fixes are not out it is a 9/10 for me. Cant wait for the multiplayer and really hyped to see how that goes down. One final thing, because of the endings I have seen online and the one I got I am more than intrigued to see how a DLC adds extra content. Also FINALLL thing, there are mod menus and mods so dont worry about the game dying. This game will last the same how RDR2 lasted and RDR2 is still lasting as a amazing game so they already said they will turn cyberpunk into a franchise so I am hyped for CDPR's next moves and I hope you get this game. Missing a ton of content that was hyped, also missing a ton of basic content that could have been there.

The map isn't great, the missions and enemy AI become boring very fast. There's just so much wrong with it I don't know where to start.

However, besides that, it fully deserves being the biggest launch in single player games history. And a twitchy keyboard control (please, PLEASE a walk button and a better vehicle turning curve), but that I solved by playing on part controller, part keyboard + mouse. Oh, and for bugs... well, there are bugs, sure. They happen everywhere. In a project THIS big and ambitious, I’d say, there are actually relatively _few_ bugs. I’m playing on i7 6400, 16GB RAM, 1070 8GB, all ultra, 144FPS with some drops in HD.

Iconic game. We will look back on this game and it will be a benchmark.

Many of these negative PC reviews for Cyberpunk 2077 on here are actually for the last-gen consoles. People are upset, but they are going over the top. People will hate it if they reduce the graphics pre-launch and it seems like they will hate it if they improve it post launch. You can't win.

Those opinions come from people who either, a) were reviewers who played an older, unpatched version, or b) people who don't even play this game but still think they have the right to criticise. Both are wrong.

I'm writing this while having Cyberpunk paused on the second screen. I'm about 10 hours in and the story is starting to really take off. It's incredible. Night City is massive, colourful, full of violence, sex and any crime under the sun. Corporations run the world and human life is worth less than nothing. It's nasty dirty place, full of nasty dirty people - and it's glorious in its nastiness and dirt.

The sound and graphics are absolutely top notch. CDPR did an unbelievable job optimizing the hell out of this game. My ancient GTX 970 can somehow run this baby on medium settings at rock-solid 60fps - and on mere medium it looks already amazing. Anyone who can run this on ultra would probably have their mind blown. I have no idea what kind of black magic CDPR used to make this possible, but I'm eternally grateful. If you have an older rig, don't be afraid. This game is so old-rig-friendly you'll make it run on pretty much anything.

There IS a number of graphical glitches that would be right at home in any Bethesda open world game, but nothing game-breaking. I had the game sort of break exactly once in the past 10 hours: the visuals froze in a flashback sequence but I was still able to move around, except being unable to see what the hell I was doing. It also happened as Cyberpunk was downloading a patch in the background so possibly it's not even the game's fault, but rather my own since I couldn't wait to play.

    Pros:
    + stunning visual representation
    + engrossing world
    + obsessive attention to detail
+ great voice acting and sound design
    + smooth gameplay
+ superb optimization on older machines
    + intriguing story

    Cons:
    - minor visual glitches

How to best describe this game? It's Skyrim/Bethesda Fallout on steroids, mixed with some Watch Dogs and GTA, and a hint of the Batman Arkham series for the braindance mechanic. It's everything I've wanted and more. It's not the polished experience we've come to expect from CDPR, but it's also incredibly big and ambitious. At this scale, a bug-free game is an impossibility.

I'm having an absolute blast despite an occasional spazzing NPC. It's a flawed game, but one that had tonnes of love and effort put into it. If you like massive, open worlds you can get lost in for weeks, get Cyberpunk. The hacking is fun. The combat is smooth. It looks and sounds great, and it's fun. Not much else you can ask for from a piece of electronic entertainment. No, it's not groundbreaking. It's not innovative. But what it does, it does very well.

Alright, time to go back. See ya in Night City, choombas!

I've only encountered a few small bugs myself, not nearly to the level that some people have claimed they've seen. That being said, this is all from a pc player's perspective. I can't give the game full marks because the version released on console should honestly have been delayed at least a few more months to ensure that it could run in a reasonable manner. It can be fixed certainly, but it really should have been a pc exclusive launch at first if they were really desperate to release it when they did. All in all, the game itself is amazing, but performance is auch bigger issue than it should have been. 8/10 for now, but easily capable of being a 9 or maybe even a 10 with bug fixes and more optimization. This game is fundamentally broken. Period. As a consumer, please disregard the “professional” reviews that say “Amazing but flawed game 10/10”. It’s fundamentally flawed.

This game is broken beyond patching. The NPC AI is completely non-existent. The “wanted” police system is programmed to auto spawn police immediately in any location. The open world environment doesn’t render properly. Additionally, the story is ruined with sub-par rendering/graphics and long loading screen. The combat is flat, stale, and filled with unintelligent enemies that function as bullet sponges.

The most puzzling and absurd thing about this game is the ability to customize your genitals but your complete inability to change your hair cut, tattoo or customize your car. If you actually want a competent, fully realized, open-world RPG action adventure game please revisit (decade old) GTA5 which is lightyears ahead of this game.

This game most likely cannot be fixed by patches. It needs to be torn down and rebuilt from scratch.

I really want to give this game a fair shake, but the level of bugs on display should make Bethesda blush. I have never seen a game released in such a broken state since Anthem. I can't believe I have to write that, but it's true. Is there a brilliant game lying under all these bugs? No. Even if it were perfect and bug free this game is not over an 8/10. Why? Read on.

The gameplay systems on offer are completely unbalanced, broken, and appear to be barely playtested. You can combine stat bonus using both multipliers and percentages in infinite loops, completely breaking the damage and leveling curve. You can, at very near the beginning of the game, create a pistol with the damage of a nuclear missile. Stealth is very difficult in the early game, and near impossible. You can maybe stealth around a couple of guys, but then everyone ends up alerted and there is no reset for that to go back into cover or lose them. In the late game, stealth becomes so easy, you can just blind everyone and walk past them. There is no middle ground.

Crafting is utterly useless, as they basically created a looter-shooter, not a RPG. You are always just using whatever gun has the highest stats, and whatever you pickup is always more powerful than anything you can craft. The currency is completely unbalanced. Everything cool in this game isn't really purchasable until there is no time left to actually use any of it. Stat checks throughout the game are generally so low, that even min-maxing a character will result in you passing them with your lowest spec'd stats. Half of this game you are driving around, and the driving is the worst in any open world game I have ever seen. It's so bad you will either laugh or cry your way through the game, every time you get in a vehicle.

Then we get to the story. Yeah, there are some good story beats, interesting twists, but the payoff in any of the endings (I've seen them all, thanks to YouTube), feel very weak. Impossible for me to give detail without spoiling it, so I won't. Only to say that, Keanu is just wrongly cast in this as a really unlikable anti-hero that just wants to watch the world burn. At the end of the game, everything feels so pointless, like you only ever had the illusion of control throughout the experience. "It's about the journey, not the end" I hear you saying. For the time you spend with this game, much of it is very unexciting with your typical fetch quests for characters you don't care about. There are one or two standouts, and some great performances on display, but everyone in this world is just horrible, and that seems to be the point.

The real thing that rubs me wrong is just the state that this was released in. Playing through this game right now is an exercise in futility. I had to reload my saves so many times for stupid, stupid bugs. Things like broken missions, gun spec pop-ups stuck on the screen, unkillable enemies, and experienced 9 crashes across my playthrough. Performance on my 2070 Super, which should be no slouch is 1440p is just unbearable, I constantly saw drops below 30 fps when roaming, and never could hit 60 locked in any area of the game. I'm all for ambition, but you can't build a game for PCs and video cards that aren't even out yet. Your base experience needs to at least be playable.

People point to Witcher 3 having bugs, and how CDPR was so dedicated to fixing it. This is very, very different. Witcher 3 was NOTHING like this on launch. This game is in an unplayable state that most Early Access games exceed. If you dip your toe in the water, keep that refund timer running, because I do think you will refund this game, as many are. Please don't buy this game right now, wait for the developer to at least patch it to a level that lets you experience it as it was intended. This is absolutely a Fallout 76 / Anthem / No Man's Sky moment, and it is very sad to see that from a well respected developer. My, how the mighty have fallen.

It should NOT have been open world. I love CDPR but they were clearly not able to pull this off. Over promising and under delivering is an understatement. Features they claimed make a difference, make none. Your character is not your own. Nearly all decisions are made for you. Enemy ai? You'd be lucky to see them take cover. Bullet sponges. Loads of useless. Civilian AI & police AI is non existent. I could go on and on about how this company lied to you. This game is as vast as an ocean but as deep as a puddle. Honestly one of the best games i’ve ever played. The same people who are angry about the game being buggy are the same ones who cried about the delays and kept bugging cdpr to just release it. I’m playing on base xbox one and even though I have encountered a few technical bugs and some glitches, the story is so good and the world is so immersive I was able to completely overlook them.

purposely did not allow console reviews.
shouldnt have released for last gen consoles if they knew it didnt work.
8 years of development with unrealistic release dates. played on both ps4 pro and high end pc ps4 pro is unplayable as there are crashes every hour PC is better but riddled with bugs and bad optimization. Even after fixing all the bare minimum basic issues, its unclear whether

Overall - a 2009 game with 2020 graphics, think of it as a tech demo and you might have a better time, probably not though.

The best metaphor for Cyberpunk 2077 is Johnny Silverhand himself. A messiah, a mix of Kurt Cobain and Che Guevara, a talented singer who loves to shape his own legend and has a charming personality but loses the struggle with his own demons. The same goes for the game. It tells a great story and forced me to ask myself difficult questions, but many of its gameplay mechanics do not evolve and its technical state upon release was abysmal. Cyberpunk’s true hero is not a person, but Night City – a vibrant, living creature of great diversity. The beauty of the metropolis is striking. [01/2021, p.22]

Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most disturbing and mind-blowing RPGs in history, where every decision has a deep impact on our trail. CD Projekt RED tosses us to the center of a city filled with disgusting delights where every character deserves our attention in an immersive experience and overall, very rewarding. From the sarcastic and shadowy tone imposed by the countless scenes in the game, to the flexibility we have on the choices to face every situation that is presented, Night City is truly memorable. It’s a shame that the countless bugs spoil or diminish the impact of some resounding moments, but we are without a question, in the presence of one of the best games in 2020.

Measured against the extreme expectations, Cyberpunk 2077 can't fulfill any of them. But all in all, despite the countless small weaknesses and inconsistences, with interesting characters, great story and dialogues or the freedom concerning gameplay, CD Projekt delivers a unique and great RPG that every fan of the genre needs to play.
