although this game came out of nowhere it quickly gained my attention from its beautifully designed steam page so I decided to wishlist the game a few days before release. the price tag shocked me after release so I did not purchase right away and bought it a few weeks after release when there was a sale since the price tag on it is a bit fat being 44.99 USD on steam.
honestly I was getting myself ready for a beautiful art and messy gameplay that I can trash talk about afterwards in reviews. it did manage to be surprisingly clean in fact. which shocked me furthermore.
menu is simple and understandable. every feature is functional and things look very presentable and nicely designed. but I would like it if there could be some more options in the settings for adjustment. maybe not a huge deal to many but would be nice to see that in the future at least. menu gets 6/10
about the graphics and art design of the game. it resembles a comic book style hand painted 3d world. and does well making it believable with sounds and visual effects. its a bold move for a sci-fi game I think. things are crisply colored, designs are interesting , things have subtle outlines . not an art style that you see in tons of sci-fi games like this but quiet nicely pulled off. its something I could get used to given the environments and colors are really mesmerizing and battles are breathtakingly good. sometimes due to the art style its even emphasized more as some subtle exaggeration makes u feel an incoming missile or nearby explosion more intensely. art is very detailed in game and from me it gets 8/10.
the biggest surprise of the game is that the gameplay is AMAZING! capital!!. game design may be strong suit of crossfar.
controls feel super responsive. ping is low , the game is quiet well balanced. and gameplay mechanics are original to itself, and I mean that in a good way! ... controls takes time to master the game yet its not 100 pages of a manual to learn how to control things or use abilities ... which usually means a job well done to me, I like to be able to play a game out of the box and learn more tricks and surprise myself.
gameplay mechanics were thoughtfully or even masterfully designed. simple things combined makes countless possibilities almost as many as a game of chess. well done!
combats! its a brain teaser, it feels satisfactory to get kills after outsmarting the player in front of you or getting lucky or getting saved by a friendly player just in time. its epic deserves a 10/10 from me.
since its release Jul28,2022 the game received more than 5 updates... that I saw... almost an update a week. mostly just graphics enhancements or little changes here and there or menu items. but still nice to know the game is being supported and developed further more.
latest update 1.1.0.8 however introduced new features to the gameplay. which I really liked personally as it added more and more depth and immersion to the gameplay that was already fun for me. for upkeep. responsive support and developers keeping up I give it 9/10.
In conclusion. I still believe the game is a bit too pricey. but all things considered in my humble opinion crossfar is a really good game for multi-player and sci-fi fans. one that I certainly enjoyed playing occasionally for the last few weeks.… Expand
