Crisol inherits some gameplay mechanics from previous classics, but it manages to build its own identity and lore. Specially recommended if you enjoy spanish culture... or if you are a veteran from the PS3-360 golden era.

Crisol: Theater of Idols delivers an essential survival horror experience, masterfully blending BioShock's introspection with Resident Evil 4's tension in a uniquely dark Spanish setting. Its ingenious blood-as-ammo mechanic and oppressive atmosphere shine, though the adventure concludes too briefly, and occasional visual inconsistencies hint at a modest technical scope. Nevertheless, its artistic vision and engaging gameplay make it a must-play.

Crisol: Theater of Idols has real personality. Its art direction and atmosphere land, and its core mechanic creates near-constant tension. When it focuses on exploration and puzzles, it shines, but it stumbles with overly long chases, repeated spaces, and a few technical or feel issues. Even so, it’s a strong pick for fans of systems-driven survival horror and exploration, if you can accept some padding and imperfections.

Play it for the aesthetics, the story, or to experience a world without Live Service Games.

With clear inspirations from predecessors in the genre, Crisol: Theater of Idols is a solid debut from Vermila Studios under Blumhouse Games. While it doesn't quite reach its max potential in the end, it's absolutely worth your time for a weekend playthrough.

Crisol: Theater of Idols draws heavily from Spanish folklore and introduces a compelling risk-reward mechanic where ammunition costs your own health. Clearly inspired by Resident Evil 7, it succeeds in atmosphere, environmental tension and classic backtracking structure. However, the slow-paced narrative, underdeveloped characters and forgettable enemies hold it back from reaching its full potential. It’s an interesting survival horror experience, but one that lacks stronger dramatic impact.

Crisol: Theater of Idols deliver a tedious and buggy experience that lacks the understanding of what makes their references so incredible.
