  • Summary: Chronicles of the Sword takes a classic approach to a classic story—and manages to accomplish very little in the process.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. You are a newbie knight, and the king asks for you to go and kill an evil witch because she is a threat to the kingdom's peace. But gives you no armor or money. The one protection you got is a magic ring, and you end up giving it away at some point.

So after a million fetch quests, you are now ready to kill this witch. Equipped with a t-shirt, jeans and a plain sword with no shield!, you find yourself out to this gloomy dreadful island. You enter the witch's lair and you are immediately captured and thrown to the caves, to die I guess.

But what a coincidence! Down in these caves there are some fairies that can help you fight this witch, all they need is her soul, some hair and nail clippings. And all these items just happen to be nearby, just two screens away. So you gather all these, give them to the fairy, and they say that OK good job, we have now captured the witch. Bye bye! And then I'm back at the castle getting some new armor and the game ends.

WHAT??????? The king sent me to kill the witch, how is this resolving things? How did the king take the news that the witch is still alive? Why did I not listen to the king? Did I lie to the king when I returned? I don't get it.

This whole game is a fetch quest. OK It has some decent 3D graphics and voice acting. But everything else is just bad. From the stupid simple story to the characters dialog. The dialog does not make any sense, and it gives the impression that everyone in Camelot is downright stupid. Also the gameplay is not clever, the character moves way too slow, and there are no real puzzles.

Do not play. Just watch a longplay video.
