Set in a futuristic, industrial war-torn atmosphere, CellFactor: Revolution features three unique characters, two that possess mind-control combat abilities. In the story campaign mode, players take one of three unique characters, Black Ops, Bishop and Guardian, through industrial settings in the near future on Earth. After a series of cataclysmic events, the planet is now dominated by a superpower dedicated only to the advancement of technology – no matter what the human cost. This technology forms the basis of a cybernetic-enhanced humanoid army, whose telekinetic powers are used to maintain relative order across the planet. A scattered human resistance fights for one last shred of freedom, tapping into psychic abilities in an attempt to conquer what appears to be an invincible enemy. The gamer can play as characters from both sides of this war. Players can manipulate a massive amount of objects simultaneously, control vehicles and fight against AI-controlled opponents or challenge friends to a match in the networked gameplay modes. Playable via a LAN connection, up to eight gamers and eight CPU bots can populate the futuristic setting for massive combat action. In addition, the multiplayer modes – death match, team death match, assault and combat – are playable with one human and up to eight AI-controlled characters. [Artificial Studios] Expand

  1. The controls require some getting used to, but the game's biggest problem comes from the fact that it only has LAN multiplayer, and lacks any kind of online player match-up capabilities.
  2. CellFactor is best thought of as an intriguing tech demo. It is interesting to watch your screen become cluttered with dozens of boxes, pipes, and miscellaneous junk, and know that your PhysX card is making the spectacle possible, but is it fun to play? Let's just say that you will love it … if your video game collection consists solely of free games.

Go ahead and download it just for fun, but don't expect any kind of lasting entertainment, and don't bother with the PhysX upgrade specifically for Cell Factor.

Basically it's not a game, it's still just a tech demo, and a pretty unsuccessful one at that. [July 2007, p.64]

It's an alright game, but there is only two maps available at your disposal, another three are available but you need a Aegia PhysX card. EvenIt's an alright game, but there is only two maps available at your disposal, another three are available but you need a Aegia PhysX card. Even if you've got Nvida's modern PhysX cards, the game still won't let you through the maps - even when done by going in to the dedicated server when going on to the game's files.

It's worth noting that many arena shooter has a multiplayer feature to test if you're really good at the game by playing against other human players that have different skills. That being said - CellFactor has no multiplayer feature. It only has L.A.N support. the bots fighting against you are excellent, but some would like to play against others to make the game more challenging.

CellFactor is said to have a story mode -- However... it's locked. Even when you are searching the configuration files, The story mode still won't unlock for you to jump in to.

The physics engine is unbelievable (It will make you want to jump in the game world). You can use P.S.I (Psychic) powers. You have the ability push-n-pull and to charging your jumps. It's really cool to mess around with the boxes. There's also a P.S.I overcharge which makes you have unlimited P.S.I energy, leaving you to take advantage of your psychic powers.

There are three classes: the Black Op, which is your typical soldier class, who has some PSI control, then there is the Bishop, which has max P.S.I control, and the Guardian, who is the overpowered-like tank class. He can dual wield guns, jump very high and looks like a Frankenstein monster strapped on to robo-legs. The Black Op on the other hand looks very cool, looking a lot like one of the Replica troopers from F.E.A.R.

There are four guns to chose from. They are the Pistol, Assault Rifle, Rocket Launcher, and Sniper Rifle. There are also nice explosives which have a little twist - they can alter gravity (but not you) and then they explode. Those are the mine, as well as a grenade.

The Pistol has a single-fire, and a burst-fire. The Assault Rifle is fully-automatic, with a grenade launcher which you would expect, and a zoom feature. The Rocket Launcher has a single rocket fire, as well as having a charge fire - you can not launch one but two or three rockets and the Sniper Rifle is what you'd expect. It's alt-fire allows you to fire a magnetic bolt which attracts objects towards it, the objects flying around it until the mine explodes.

The game has also great soundtrack, I have one tune from a map which I like.

However, the lack of multiplayer support and only two maps available to play to the players can frustrate them, the Aegia PhysX cards are long-dead now and could even take you a miracle to even find them on the Web. Even then, the maps that the developers put in are a pretty small amount.

There was even a Xbox 360 game that was being made however that version of the game got canceled. It would be a somewhat more alright game than this since the players don't have to get a Aegia PhysX card to play.

The game's a bit boring. actually it's infuriatingly repetitive. Doing the same matches with bots on the same map over and over again can really be very boring.

There are some vehicles to drive, too. You got the DeathStalker, which is basically Halo's mongoose, The DuskHawker, which is a air vehicle, and the Goliath, which is a mech. Both of them can be pretty useful when used offensively. The DuskHawker's quite hard to control.

The H.U.D is pretty odd. It changes when you swap to a character. The H.U.D can be confusing - even when switched to the Black Op -- as well as the controls.

The verdict.. CellFactor can best be described as an OK tech demo. with only 5 maps, three characters to play, six (counting the explosives) weapons, and confusing U.I, quite repetitive game play and no multiplayer support, the game was heavily panned by many. probably because all of the aforementioned stuff was a great idea.. but poor execution.

EDIT: After getting a patch to unlock the game's maps, the game is a lot more fun and better now. The single player campaign is also unlock for me to jump in to. I like this game now, so click the link to give a moment to forgive the game. I'm trying out the single player campaign right now and it's really fun! i now give a 8 out of ten. It still has a few flaws, but it's better now.

That is all, you can't play the full game unless you buy a PPU card. Honestly, I think it is a sign to developers that games that take full advantage of ageia physx will leave the vast majority of gamers without these gimmicky 150 cards. I honestly believe that more time should be spent advancing current hardware/software then coming up with some more proprietary junk to put in my computer. To boot, the game is boring. Expand
