Sadly, exporting ship codes to restart the game at a later time is no longer available, and this was apparently addressed by the developer in a Steam discussion as being impossible by design. However, no alternative save game feature was introduced to replace that, which is puzzling. This means that the game is now session-based and must be restarted from scratch each time you die.

In any case, you get to relive the classic experience of Captain Forever in this Steam rerelease in its near-purest glory, albeit without being able to temporarily retire. The lack of a save feature heavily weighs on my sentiment for this version, as it means that there is no way to play for short periods of time. You must leave the game (and PC) running in order to not lose your progress during lengthier sessions.
