Nice story, more of a walking simulator. Great music, voice acting and graphics/art style. Some puzzles are too easy, while others are fairly tough. They did break the pace for me.

I eventually got chapter 2 to work, but I only got to see the beginning moments of chapter 6.. call of the sea just refuses to load leading me to have to watch the remaining 40 minutes on youtube to get this games ending… and the issue isn’t expclusive to what is admittedly a beta system in xbox game pass for pc, after looking into it, there are reports on all of the sea causing console crashes as well, there was also a bug where I would be shown a giant white blob where cinnmematics were supposed to b shown throughout the entire game!
If you can get through Call of the Sea, this is a really interesting and pretty straightforward puzzle game.. but if you do decide to give this one a go, don’t do it through xbox game pass for pc
    it probably wont work
I giv Call of the Sea

Best thing about Call of the Sea is the overarching story.
As a puzzle game it blows hot and cold: first half of the game the puzzles are interesting, but descending into a mixture of illogicality and easy peasy lemon squeezy. None of the puzzles however are unique or different to any we've seen in other games.

Like others here, I experienced some glitching and needed to restart a new game at one point
An interesting title that's probably worth a play through.

Story was good, bud slowness of the characters movement were so much pain. Many unnecessary difficulties slowing the game even more. At the end I just wanted for it to end as soon as possible.

I like the graphics of the game. The story is interesting but the constant commentary of the main character is tiresome. The sounds are amazing in the game. The puzzles starts well but became too illogical in chapter 3 ending and more. It's often presented in a very eclectic way and I didn't find trying to interpret all those disparate elements, a fun experience. I give it 65% mainlyI like the graphics of the game. Call of the Sea is a 3D puzzle adventure game that should be a treat to fans of games like Myst, albeit not as difficult and not as complex.

There are many different locations that you explore, and there are a good variety of pattern-based puzzles. The movement was a little slow for my taste, but it was not detestable. Overall, the game was rather short (only a bit over four hours for me), even though it felt like it took twice as long to complete. But it was an enjoyable journey, nonetheless.

The storytelling could have been a bit less cryptic, especially during the latter half of the game where it was crucial to understand the overarching plot and the character's role in the entire adventure in order to sympathize with her. But you're only left with a vague understanding of what is happening.

As with all puzzle games, spoiling yourself would ruin the fun, so make sure to interact with everything, however minor it may be. This game is not too difficult and can be completed without much assistance as long as you explore everywhere.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Puzzles are nice but sometimes too easy, and hints are a bit too obvious. The story is good, not great, like why is she a fish or something, that makes no sense.

The game is filled with moments when you realize that the developers were a bit lazy or didn’t know how to program it so they went the easy way. Like the fact that you never see a character other than in a picture is super weird. She reunite with Harry (if you choose this option at the end) and they sing together but you never see them. This tells me that they aren’t capable of modelling characters. The worst part of the game is the pace, it’s extremely slow and why the hell is she running that slow ?!? I don’t understand how this couldn’t come up when they tested their game. I believe this is one of the most frustrating pace in a game I’ve ever seen. You constantly want her to run faster but her speed is locked at 0,1 MPH. Even when she’s in the water, with her amphibian hands, isn’t she supposed to know how to swim? Controls got me feeling like I was playing an anchor.

Finally, music is alright and the graphic design of the island is stunning. There’s just too many cons for it to be enjoyable. But I can understand if some people loved it and it’s on the Xbox gamepass so I won’t complain any more.

Call of the Sea looks great. Unfortunately that's the best part about it. The story is okay, has an interesting twist but everything else was simply not interesting. The first half of the game was fine but the second felt like a chore to complete. The puzzles were not overly challenging but often time was wasted trying to figure out what to do next. Call of the Sea can be described as: a forgettable adventure, sprinkled with fun, but easy puzzles. The exposition-heavy "narration" of the main heroine ruins the atmosphere of this journey, which isn't that strong to begin with, especially for a story dealing with eldritch terrors from beyond. The only reason to play this are the puzzles, although they too fail to keep you invested, as you won't really care about reaching the end, especially if a fan of Lovecraft, which will instantly turn the plot into an extremely predictable one. It has its moments, sure, and the visuals are beautiful, but this is generally a mediocre experience.

Colorful, pretty scenery, decent voice acting, lots of interactive objects, and a couple of interesting puzzles give the impression that the game has more to offer than it actually does. The atmospheric first half is good, but the repetitive second part disappoints. The plot makes no sense and the direction it takes is predictable to anyone acquainted with Lovecraft’s work. The further you go, the narrower the path is and you bump into invisible walls all the time. It’s a shame the game’s considerable potential was squandered. [02/2021, p.60]

A wonderfully crafted fantastic adventure in the style of Jules Verne and H. P. Lovercraft with great puzzles and an immersive atmosphere. Don't miss it. [Issue#309]
