    Pros:

    -The gunplay is good. Most of the guns feel fun to use. -Plenty of content. Doesn't overstay it's welcome too much either like some single player rpgs. -The classes are fun. They each feel different and can be built in unique ways Cons: -in no way, shape or form worth a 7 year wait from it's predecessor. -The dialogue in this game is some of the cheesiest woke    Pros:

    -The villains are boring. Of all the things they could have gone with they thought a pair of cult influencers poking fun of real life influencers was the best option.

    Despite playing Borderlands 1, 2, and Pre-Sequal multiple times, I played Borderlands 3 once and never picked it up again. It was a jankey, buggy mess upon release, but that isn't what the real problem is. Nope, what really craps all over this game is the writing. Gotta **** on every established character and elevate anyone new with a vagina to godhood. Lilith doesn't count, cause we actually like Lilith. Honestly, who thought it was a good idea to hire fresh out of collage writers who don't care about consistancy or respect for established lore and only care about making sure no one is offended? Because they should be fired... out of a cannon, into the sun. I respected Gearbox for telling an engaging story that made sense, with a villian that can be considered one of the best in all of gaming. To go from that to the entitled, insufferable, ****ty Hot Topic employee wannabe brats is actually impressive in its incompetence. Oh, but how can we forget the equally entitled, unworthy, insufferable, disrespectful, undignified little **** that pops up half way through the game and gets everyone she cares about killed. Only to be rewarded with God-like power and undue respect from broken, striped down, disrespected characters we have grown with and loved? I'm utterly impressed with the absolute heel turn Borderlands 3 is from Borderlands 2. I didn't know it was possible to screw things up that badly. My only hope is that the people in charge of these absolute braindead decisions at Gearbox reads every one of these 0 to 1 star reviews so they can feel a fraction of the disappointment they have bequeathed to their fandom with what can only be adequately described as Satan's **** of a game. Fire whoever was responsible for this waste of space in my gaming library and go back to respecting your story and your fans. Or you can sit in a circle with J.J. Abrams and Rian Johnson with your fingers in your ears so you can't hear how you took a media Titan and crumbled it into what is akin to a steaming pile of dog vomit.… Expand

    Now I have to agree, I certainly did take my time with this review, however now that I`ve seen the new tales, I decided to leave this one, since BL3 has been rubbing me the wrong way, ever since it came out. While I have to agree that it is superior to BL2 in most areas (namely sound effects, gun play etc) it did fail to deliver a compelling story, quite the opposite in fact. I genuinelyNow I have to agree, I certainly did take my time with this review, however now that I`ve seen the new tales, I decided to leave this one, since BL3 has been rubbing me the wrong way, ever since it came out. I genuinely believe, that this game feels better if you turn off the dialogue, because the Vaughn makes me was to turn the game off altogether.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just finished this game after buying it with a group of friends months ago. We couldn't make it to 7th chapter due to a mind-numbing story.
    Story
    The story is S**T The people that made this game lacked love for the Borderlands series, and it shows through their portrayal of the characters in the series that we had grown to love. ELLIE and TANNIS take center stage in this game for no discernible reason other than the fact the developers could not develop the original crew further or make fun, new personalities. DID YOU KNOW THAT ELLIE IS FAT, SOUTHERN AND IS SEXUALLY ATTRACTED TO EVERYONE? No? Well here is a **** innuendo tied to her every breath. Did you know Ava is annoying brat that no one in the world could ever care about due to her Unlikable personality and COMPLETE lack of depth? No? Well here she is in every cut scene ever made. Even Lilith was reduced to a bland quest vendor. The incredible writing for the Tales from the Borderlands characters left everyone excited for their presence in Bl3. Rhys and Vaughn were reduced to their most basic, and displayed none of the charisma or charm they were born with. But hey, at least Scooter isn't alive to see it.
    The Calypso Twins started to become likeable after Tyrene gifts you a gun for killing yourself, and the twins talk to each other like real people on the ECHO comms. However, by that time, Troy was about to die, and Tyrene would no longer have the chance to develop herself.
    They did well in some regards, including BALEX and his girlfriend. A shame they didn't have a lot of screens time, but with what they had they displayed chemistry and great humour. That skillful writing did not translate anywhere else in the game. General Traunt was also a breath of fresh air, a character that didn't take himself too seriously.
    Gun play
    The BL team did really well with the gun play. The step from BL2 to BL3 is ginormous and is worthy of praise. Certain elements of guns made them a delight to use.
    If I had to critique the gun play, it would be that the guns weight felt the same, whether it be recoil or sway it never went beyond the usual parameters. In order to give the weapons unique personalities, they should have explored more avenues, such as more detailed gun smoke, engravings, sound changes, weight and different variations of reloading. Particle effects needed to turned way down, bout to have a seizure.
    Loot
    Looting in this game was very rewarding. Too rewarding. A legendary item for farting it seems. They are called legendarily for a reason, so why is the game handing them out so freely? Legendarily in this game spawn more frequently than purples in BL2. This takes away the thrill of getting lucky with an orange. By the way you can buy legendarily from vendor machines for 3000 bucks at level 30? Its like they didn't even play their own game.
    Enemies
    Complete. **** Let's give Troy some giant orbs or something idk. Merge Tyrene with a generic OOD from Doctor Who IDGAF. So boring to fight and even more depressing is that the whole game leads up to these so called 'peaks'. Enemies you fight are generic, the psychos are less psychotic and few remember able sentences. And they all talk so damn much you've heard it all by chapter 10.
    Levelling
    I was always 4 levels or so behind the enemies and they were decimated. No challenge, no need to level up and come back, no need to find stronger guns they just melt in your presence. Their guns are too weak and you are too strong. The times I felt a challenge were few and far between. To draw a comparison to BL2, when I was even one level behind I felt the struggle. Which then forced me to either adapt my current play style or do side missions to level up and get better loot. In this game, you run and gun like an unstoppable jugg, which made for a mindless sprint through the battles.
    Cut scenes
    AK THU. Disgusting. Revolting. After deleting all life within a 10-mile radius of the objective, the Twins still manage to get their way. Not the sneaky tactic Handsome Jack used to kill Roland, no they walk up and do their business. And where are you? You turn into a ghost that was wiped from everyones memory. Lilith loses her powers in the most pathetic of ways. Maya dies in the most pathetic way imaginable. Tannis is kidnapped in the most lazy way possible. And you, the player, are powerless to stop them. You don't matter in this story line, until it comes time for the Twins to die. Having no bearing on the game until the end is so mind-numbingly boring and making playing it a complete slog fest.

    **** Ava, all the homieshateAva. Annoying ass bish I'm would have preferred her going REEE on the comms, instead of hearing her whine all game. F**k Ava. And her ****ty off-screen arc. Where she turned from a brat to B**CH I really don't know why the devs thought anyone would care about her, ak THU.
    Future
    Lilith left Ava in charge for some reason, so I have low hopes. Unless Randy leaves and takes Ava with him.    … Expand

Ava shouldn't exist. Lilith's personality is like cardboard, disappointing ending and final boss was boring, predictable and uninteresting.The side missions have better writing and dialogue than then entirety of the story. any of the interesting characters where only there for a slight portion of the story. UI isn't as good as previous games, hard to tell what is ammo and what is an item. Claptrap keeps talking every 2 seconds at points telling me to do something he already told me and I am just busy fighting stuff, or trying to listen to other loreI don't remember all of the annoyances at the beginning of the game, but they caused me to start a new game almost immediately about 5 times.     Additionally and critically, I agree with other condemnations that the quests (both main and side) are largely repetitive fetch quests.

    The quests could have been loaded with incredible variance the likes of Fallout 3 and 4, where there are fun breaks of finding new long term allies, or exploring completely virtual and out of time-sync worlds. At the bare minimum, they could have explored the now trope of a chapter involving your accidental ingestion of psychotropics (Fallout 3....hospital bed with balloons, anyone?).

    Borderlands 3 has none of this. It's a straight forward shooter from start to finish, with a change of scenery from time to time. I have no doubt that at some point the Powers recognized they had an addictive formula and decided they'd gone as far as necessary. "Great...just make more of the game but exactly with this formula" and called it a day.

    Again, that's great if you want people to be addicted in the way they're addicted to an illicit drug. I.e. technically being addicted in that they feel they must play for dozens of hours, but factually finishing feeling like they'd gone through a woodchipper and wishing something else had pervaded their time.

    If you want a game feeling like a complete fulfilling experience, like an epic movie or novel....or an epic game series like a Fallout or Skyrim....this is not it. If your barometer for a "good" game is how many hours you mentally feel compelled to play, then you've found a gem. If you understand that if playtime is only thing you get from the game but you leave feeling like you were working a job for minimum wage for 5 years because nobody else in the industry was offering any better, you might want to hold off.    … Expand

    This trope will be repeated 'ad nauseam' throughout the story and DLCs. This kills any replayability; going through the story once is more than enough.

    That’s a shame because the gunplay, level design and soundtrack are pretty good.
    But even then, the game is buggy. The game crashed, the interface was sometimes unresponsive, and two quests got stuck, even though the community had flagged the bugs months prior.    … Expand

Playing Borderlands 3 feels like playing Call of Duty, Battlefield, or any other crappy ADS lock-on shooter. If you don't like those games, you won't like this one. Even worse, playing solo this is by far the easiest game of the series.     I love this everything about the game except for its mission design. There are many tasks that destroy my game experience. For example, the "welcome to slaughterstar 3000" will fail if I exit the game, there is no checkpoint and I lose hours of effort. This frustration led me to delete the game.     "Poor indie developers" can't fix missing teamates' names bug about 2 years, awful vehicle manipulating on a keyboard, optimisation for MAC OS devices and many smaller unsolved problems

    Borderlands 3 has by far the best gunplay in the whole series, which is the only thing that stops it from being scored a zero in my mind. That being said I felt no challenge while playing this game on the hardest difficulty available. That isn't a brag either, I'm notoriously **** at videogames, and I have yet to feel as though the game has really presented me with a challenge. HoweverBorderlands 3 has by far the best gunplay in the whole series, which is the only thing that stops it from being scored a zero in my mind. That being said I felt no challenge while playing this game on the hardest difficulty available. That isn't a brag either, I'm notoriously **** at videogames, and I have yet to feel as though the game has really presented me with a challenge. However since I snagged the game for free I feel obligated to complete the main campaign. This task is proving to be rather daunting as the painfully unfunny humor from 2 and the pre-sequel is back in full force. I concede there are characters that I do enjoy but they have fallen by the wayside and are only there for a short while to make room for shrill ear splitting voices and childish humor. At times where I catch a moment of calm, almost serious character moments such as a side quest where a woman takes the time to somberly recollect on the fact that her brother killed all their other siblings and would have done the same to her almost made me feel invested in the world. Only for moments later for a different side mission where a man is stuck in an outhouse and everything is screaming in my ear again. What's worse yet is the characters, in Borderlands they have always been weak but it feels the more times they bring them back the more times they feel less like people and more like walking dick joke dispensers. Tanis in the first one was a somber scientist that had to contend with the fact that she was the last survivor of her research crew. In Borderlands 2 & 3 she is a generic mad scientist trope. Vaughn and Rhys feel like the charm from Tales has been completely sucked out of them. Ellie, Claptrap and Tina are as annoying as ever and I long for death every time I hear their voices. Finally there is the games biggest problem character and I would say missed opportunity. Ava. I looked into the extended content and I was shocked to find two actually well written scenes with her. the Sharing of Maya's death and the funeral, scenes that were cut from the game. Scenes that would have made her go through growth and introspection. I encourage you to see them for yourselves because it is mind boggling how they could think it a good idea to cut such pivotal scenes for a characters development.

    I can only assume it was so the cost of finishing those scenes didn't cut into Randy bottom line of cash he could pocket and shaft his employees bonuses on. Allegedly.    … Expand

    It's Borderlands but the issues with this game and the annoying story just makes me barf. If you want new Borderlands experience you need to try Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, they somehow made GOTY for me with that game. Borderlands 3 on the other hand... worst pre-release purchase (except Battlefield 2042)

    Games should be out of politics, they are designed to relax and distract, which in our situation will be extremely useful. The only thing you will cause by canceling sales is self-hatred!

    The villains: They are so bad and cringe i cant even find the right words for them. I mean sure it is hard to make another good villain after Handsome Jack but come on they went from "One of the best" to "The worst" with one step.
    The loot: Loot is worth nothing in this game. I had been flushed with epics and legendaries on my first normal run of this game. At the end i had like 50 legendaries in my stash and my gear was orange-purple.
    They **** up looting in a loot shooter.
    The sound design: I played as Moze, and idk what they where thinking but the sound design is so annoying and bad. If you sprint for aroun 10 seconts she starts panting permanently and loudly and no, you can't turn that off. Why even add that panting ? This game has no stamina system so its complete useless and just annoys the player for no reason.
    The **** I mean Borderlands had strong female caracters from the first game on, but let the story 90% of the time get's carried by women just seems overdone.
    There are exactly 3 male persons that are important for the story, and 2 of them are robots, it's just awnkard how hard they tried.
    The story: It's not exactly bad, its just boring and you can predict most of the stuff happening. Also having one of the main (female) persons have a heroic sacrifice to safe the entire universe with a never seen or used power is just.... bad storytelling
    The fanservice: Well most not-female persons from the previous games just have briefly apperances. Even in the final battle they are just not there and completely unimportant. Just sad to dump so many good caracters    … Expand

    Just couple things that are really annoying. First is MANDOTORY EXTRA LONG TUTORIAL multiplied by 4. So 4hours just to see whom you want to play as. And another issue is claptrap, he's too stupid to have any entertainment value.

    This game is horrendously unoptimized no matter your specs you could have a 3080 like me beast rig and the game is going to stutter and lag at points. Story was uninspired garbage. Dialogue was cringe. Worst entry in the series.

    One of the worst games ive played this year and ive played ac odyssey/ shadow of tomb raider this year. Characters and writing is feminist and boring as hell. Devs force you to do boring side quests by level gating the (boring) main quests. Just avoid this.

    3 years after release, and many minor bugs still on. This game is totally on line add DLC, never repair errors, bugs, crashes, some bad game designs. Loved B1 and B2, at least story, voice acting and characters are good, but not enough for good score.

I don't understand either how on Earth this game demands so many resources (>= GeForce 1660, 6 GB VRAM for a game that looks like BL 1 ???) it still has screen tearing IF VSync is not set On and stuttering and un-rebindable keys. You morons, not every player uses the outdated WASD, SOME of them use TFGH (by far, superior to WASD!) with Y instead of E. In your crappy console-port Y is bound to Team Chat and cannot be unbound (and other keys too). Your game menus reek of putrid antiquated pieces of trashware scent, prev/next menu Z/C, LALT/CTRL, etc. Guys, you use to be PC gamers, what the hell is wrong with you, design your game having the keyboard and mouse in your minds, not that despicable device ever invented by man, the putrid controller. The PC is the most fascinating, reliable and powerful device invented by man, the keyboard has TONS of buttons to play with (not like that putrid and despicable controllers!), the mouse has pinpoint accuracy (and if it's a gaming one, well, hooah soldier!), its parts can be changed, interchanged, upgraded (if you like hardware tinkering!), the PC is FREEDOM OF GAMING AND MIND. Yet, you cling to those antiquated pieces of trashware AND you have the nerve to ask afterwards *very* powerful resources/rigs for a game which looks like its 2010 version (with small differences in lighting, some textures here and there, some shadowing, etc. *barely* noticeable in a fast-paced shooting).
    The Season Passes
    The Season PassES, because yes, His Illustrious Grace Gearbox pulled this card on the table, with *multiple* ones.
    This is by far, one of the most despicable business practice very similar to that of pre-ordering games. It's like paying whores multiple times in the brothel *before* "engaging" their Blazkowicz services. This despicable practice needs to die in miserable pain along with all developers that implement it. Until now, only His Pandoran Excellency Gearbox pulled this card on the table, I *really* hope that other developers will not follow this putrid scent.
    Once upon a time on Earth, if a game had been successful, it would have been followed by an expansion; nowadays they have the guts to ask in advance for their **** and also to be paid in advance for their **** extra private dances, because, you know, if there is a game, it has to be a DLC too.
    Lets now take a look at their older DLCs successes through the eyes of a game considered successful by some *very* vocal players (on youtube, flexing and showing-off how cool they are in killing some bosses on overpowered levels +72 ->80).
    What statistics say for Borderlands 2:
    1. "Better Than You Were" Reach level 10. Only 67% of players achieved this. That means 1 in 3 players gave up quite early.
    2. "Always Improving" Reach level 25, 40% of the players. Which also means that 6 out of 10 did not bother.
    3. "Cool Story, Bro" 32% of players, that means only 1 in 3 players bothered to finish the main campaign only.
    4. "Capped Out... For Now" Reach level 50. Only 17.3% of players, that means only 3 out of 17. 14 of them went to greener pastures.
    5. "Thresher Thrashed" Terramorphous the Invincible killed, 11%, that means only 1 in 10 players bothered with it.
    6. Completionist Completed all Pirate's Booty DLC side missions. 2.4% of players.
    7. Done That Completed all Hammerlock's Hunt side missions. 1.9% of players, I wonder what other 98 out of 100 players did.
    8. Make it Raaaaaid Vanquished the Ancient Dragons of Destruction. 5.4% of players.
    9. Spicy Boy Defeat Haderax the Invincible. 1.8% of players (!)
    How many players bothered that much to reach "Overpowered level 8", if barely 3 in 17 reached only level 50?
    Were those DLCs *that* successful, if less than 5% of players bothered with?
    This despicable practice of asking in advance for money 1. for unfinished and surely full of bugs products and 2. because "you know, we will deliver in 6-8 months some extra-content (aka 1-2 hrs max **** DLCs, or worse, extra characters to be played with)" should, I repeat, die in miserable pain along with all developers which implement it.
    Does ANY game need Season Pass? No.
    Does ANY game need Season Pass 2? Definitely no.
    Does ANY game need Season Pass 3? Definitely, definitely no.
    Shove all your Season Passes in your throats, by the time you end up publishing your marvelous DLCs which no one cares about, your game will have collected a lot of dust on Steam servers.
    You can easily bundle all your **** DLCs along with the main game into some *unique* GOTY edition (as it was up to 2010, 2011!) without splitting and chopping the content into Deluxe, Gold, Ultimate, Spectacular, Whatever Edition and having the nerve afterwards to ask money for Season Pass 2, 3 and so forth.

I was not expecting the game to be a Borderlands 2 by any means and was hoping for just a good looter shooter. Well it was good at looting and shooting but the rest of it did not hold up.

    Now this game was difficult to review as I feel the game is better than the original in terms of gameplay…. yet I was not happy or thrilled when I was playing it. The vault hunters you get to pick where mostly ok but honestly, I didn’t really feel they had character like the previous series. None of them where compelling and mostly just had generic dialogues. The game itself also felt a bit easy for me and I didn’t feel much of a challenge throughout the main story. I do like the gunplay and the extra variety of guns they introduce so that’s a plus. Skill tree is still cool but nothing new from previous titles. So overall my experience with just the game itself without adding into the story is roughly 6/10. Enjoyable enough but average.

    Now when you add in the story, things get a lot worse. I hated how the story progressed. One of the most annoying non compelling villains that I just hate. Borderlands 2 had a very good villain that you know is as villain, but you enjoy how great he is as a character. Borderlands 3 completely does not have that same magic at all for their villain. Making them this streamer attitude kids who doesn’t have the same charisma or depth. The game also added in a horrible character name AVA and I hated her. There is nothing else to say but after a certain turning point in a game where this kid is now part of the crew, I stopped playing the game from the original release date…. until a week ago. After finishing the game my view has not changed. Poorly written character growth, underserving character death and horrible villains. This game was a slog to get through because of the story. There are small aspect here and there that feels like they understood Borderlands universe and then the rest of it is just pulling random powers ups out of thin air and making one of the WORSE characters in the game the center point of the game. So the story is a 2/10. It gets 2 points for having Tiny Tina and to have a memorial statue of a previous character in the game. That is it.

    So there are some games that are enjoyable without paying attention to the story. Mario for example is fun with a simple story that doesn’t get in the way. You can’t say the story is great but it isn’t a negative aspect. God of War has amazing gameplay and amazing story that helps it immensely. Earth Defense Force is by far the stupidest game in terms of story however has a very fun gameplay that doesn’t hamper the overall game. The Last of Us Part 2 is an okay game when it comes to gameplay but with very bad story that hampers the enjoyment of the game. Borderlands 3 falls into the same category of being an average game with a horrible story. The company already has a long history of being horrible towards their developers as well as the CEO is one of the worst out there…. I don’t believe I would be excited to play from anything else from this company. 4/10 play Borderlands 2 instead    … Expand

    Borderlands 2 with even worse writing. Their style of humour hasn't aged well. Even if you were to remove all the dialogue and cutscenes, the underlying gameplay is bland, the shooting is mediocre, and the UI is awful.

    2. The world is 1000x more beautiful than previous games.
    3. Gameplay and gunplay is 1000x better than previous games.
    4. Gun variety actually matters because they are actually unique and do different things.
    5. Story and dialogue and UI is the controversial part.
    6. I didn't encounter any bugs.

    Bl2 had way better dlcs and 2 extra characters, here you get some washed down dlcs + 0 characters for the double price

    yuck and adding a second season pass for 30€ with content that could have redeemed the Foundation of the Game but nah better sell it to the cashcows

    I have two words about the third Borderlands game...... "Cash grab" !.... Even after i got Season pass now they crated Second season pass.... After the disaster the Craig Dlc was.... i dont feel i will pay anymore money for Borderlands content not even gona purchase 4th installment !

    I am a long time fan of Borderlands, since I saw the Game Informer cover story back in 2007. I played hours on end both alone and with friends in every entry in the series and it was almost always a hit with everyone I played it with. I was there at PAX East 2019 when Gearbox had their big presentation to announce the game, and did nice things like show Battleborn fan art and have cosplayers come up on stage. I should have suspected something when they conspicuously failed to announce what store the game would be available from.

    Borderlands 3 is a lot of fun, but I cannot in good conscience tell you to pay money for it. The why is a number of things that are varying degrees of heinous. The first, of course, is because of the Epic store and their shady exclusivity deals, which more then once have been used to bait-and-switch customers and kickstarter backers. I've been playing Epic games all my life and the skeezy, CCP-money backed Epic Games of today resembles nothing of the company that once developed and published titles like Unreal Tournament, Jazz Jackrabbit and Tyrian 2000. They don't even resemble the company that developed Gears of War. If the issue had been that alone, however, I would have simply waited out the year and then whatever time it would take for BL3 to be severely discounted on Steam. But there is more.

    Anyone familiar with Gearbox has a lot to say about them, not all of it productive: How much of a "disappointment" Duke Nukem Forever was, how "bad" Battleborn was. **** of course, though their treatment of Duke since has not been stellar, and Troy Baker's statement about their refusal to participate in unions, and so on. The real issue is their grandstanding CEO, Randy Pitchford. Even if I had enjoyed some of Randy's past antics and stage magic tricks, his persistently bizarre public behavior and repeated allegations leveled against him of things like possession of child porn, siphoning 12 million bucks from the company and even assaulting Claptrap's original VA, David Eddings on top of denying him pay, are rather difficult to gloss over. It's difficult to say what's true and what isn't. But you combine that with the Epic business and publisher 2K Games' less then stellar track record, such as supposedly sending private investigators to a Youtuber's house for "breaking our policies, leaking confidential information about our product, and infringing our copyrights", they said, and you get a pretty ugly picture overall. By the time of this writing i'm sure tens, if not hundreds of thousands of people ignored all of this and gleefully shelled out the full asking price for BL3, maybe even from the Epic Store, but I will not. If you people keep paying money to get shafted, they will keep doing it.

    Instead, I suggest you pick up a used copy of the game for consoles or find, shall we say, alternative means of acquiring BL3, because beneath the executive **** price model, crashes, unlikable villains and flat jokes is a mechanical evolution of the series that I'm sure, for at least some of the people who did real work at Gearbox, is something they wanted to be proud of. Hopefully they got the pay they deserved for it, but I don't think Randy, 2K Games, Tim Sweeny or Xi Jinpeng for that matter deserve one red cent of your money for this or anything else anymore.

    The game offers a number of quality of life improvements, like the ability to fast travel from any location instead of specific warp points, a feature that really ought to have been in the series from the first. Driving controls were much improved as well, with a better sense of weight and physics. Movement is improved, the mantling mechanic is a great addition. There are number of outstanding issues attributable to its origins as a console game, such as there still being only four weapon slots, but I guess things like that are never going to change. Like I said at the beginning, minor issues in the scope of things. The game generally runs well, with smooth framerate and reasonable load times, though I did occasionally encounter game-crashing fatal errors.

    I wanted to tell people to buy Borderlands 3, but I can't. Still, if you have the opportunity to play it, whether or not you've played the previous games, it is a pretty good time. That is why I am giving it a Four and not a big fat Zero. I even tried to leave a Steam review after the free week and was not able to. There is a reasonable explanation for why that is, but it doesn't look right regardless.    … Expand

    It's really horrible. The performance at launch left the game unplayable even on good hardware, and this has barely improved. The DLC released since has been an absolute joke, leaving the $100 edition of the game as completely worthless. I will never buy another Gearbox game.

    The story/campaign is quite lengthy or maybe it was just that i just wanted it to end since it was so bad that it felt like it would never end... I gritted and powered through the story hoping for ANYTHING good or quality storytelling.
    Any major plot point is just bad executed to create cheap shock value that just ends up ruining the story even more.

    Of course we have ton of loot... but the loot system devalues legendaries in such away that you either have found tons of legendary weapon that let's you be ridiculously overpowered through out the game eliminating any challenge or eliminating the need to farm for a legendary since you will just look at the legendary drops with your full legendary inventory and just ignore it since they don't have any value at all.
    In short all the excitement from finding a legendary is gone with the wind.

    Since the game is such a bore to playthrough, i'm simply can't bring myself to tryout another vault hunter and playthrough it all again, I just can't. In BL2 there were always something i didn't mind doing again with a new character.

    And lastly the humor that made you chuckle through out your playthrough is almost non-existent, the quality is just been lowered and it's seems afraid to offend some people.

    One thing that does not count to my rating of BL3 base game is the DLCs they are what the base game shoul've been: memorable, fun, good characters etc. So if you want to play BL3 get the DLCs to get some value from the game.    … Expand

    1) Removed phsyx
    2) New DLC forces users to take part in homosexuality.. and gay BS.... even UBISOFT seen what was wrong with this in "ODDYESSY" and updated it so we had a choice! Many of the interesting characters you love are cut from the game or have limited voice lines. Ava being a super annoying piss poor plot device used to create tension. She is instantly annoying and later hated. Scooter died in the tales of the borderlands spin off game so there goes alot of fun opportunities there. All around it seems like the main story is dominated by female characters, which im not against but none of them are funny except for tannis, and tina. Tina btw is also in the game for like 35 min. The villans are annoying and a complete downgrade from handsome jack. Where jack was evil but liked due to humor. Troy and tyrene are annoying, they try too hard to be bad and it feels like their design in terms of personality was built buy middle school edgy kids. Without spoiling whom they killed of 2 of my favorite characters as their only means of shock and awe. I firmly believe that they kill of characters in a world where resurrection exits simply because they cant make drive you to want to get revenge otherwise. Plot wise characters taking themselves off of the new u grid only is there so they can kill of characters for what they think is a interesting plot device. Essentially what i am getting at is the story is so bad it makes me want to put down the game ignoring all the cool loot that is out there to be gotten.
    The game does greatly improve the gunplay, weapon variety, vehicles, and character ability trees. while both of the female characters seem way too two dimensional for my liking they are still fun to play. every character now has 3 ultimates to choose from, augments for the abilites that can be changed at will. Weapons and weapons sounds are way better offering even whites to be useful, and newly added vehicle customiaztion. In the end the game mechanically is a complete upgrade but the story is lacking in so many areas i dont even want to new game plus. Just thinking about sitting through that child level story makes me want to drop bl3 and just replay bl2.

Well the game is kinda trash, so I will point out why it actually get 5 and not 0 or 10, starting with the pros.I have played the series since Borderlands 1 came out, played every game, and every dlc, except in Borderlands 3. I have played Borderlands to 100% but stopped playing it after that and before dlcs came out. What made me stop playing it even if new content have come out? Well the game is kinda trash, so I will point out why it actually get 5 and not 0 or 10, starting with the pros.

    Pros:
    - YOU GOT LOADS OF GUNS (Just like alot of other games nothing special here)
    - The environmental artist did a amazing job and the game world looks absolutely stunning.
    - The overall combat mechanics feels more smooth with slides and slams (slams kinda bugged tho)
    - egh thats really it.

    Cons:
    - The pacing of the game is horrible. imagine having traffic lights on a highway and you get red every time you get to it, that is how it feels like. You have awesome shootouts with enemy and then you need to wait what feels like 10-30 minutes of boring talking because the characters are so hollow it makes you want to stop playing.
    - NO REAL ENDGAME ON RELEASE?!??! yes, there is no raid boss on release! what were they thinking?
    - Killing vault monsters and opening vaults feels very unrewarding.
    - Game filled with BUGS
    - Game is NOT optimized at all. I could run 70 fps on highest settings and 100 fps on lowest settings like wtf. So I just played with highest settings because it looks absolutely trash on lowest.
    - The story, world and character building is so bad.
    - You remember how much people hated on Troy and Tyreene? well they aren't what I hate about the game, Troy actually had some character development, while this certain PRICK wanted me to not play 2nd playthrough because I had to listen to her again.
    - THE ENDING MAKES NO SENSE.
    - Oh yea endgame by mayhem mode? no it actually sucks. Just makes things harder and boring to play.
    - Ah balance is something. They **** butchered anything that would seem possible in the other games, like CAPPING SOME SKILLS TO BE USELESS EVEN WITH 10 LEVELS IN IT (Looking at you moze)
    - Totally forgot! There is no persistence in anything story related to the franchise or universe.
    - Humor what is that? Even Dad jokes are more fun that this pile of ****

    I would recommend if they removed the PRICK from the game, made a different ending, fixed bugs, made actual endgame, made surprising and funny bosses. ACTUALLY JUST MAKE ANOTHER TOTALLY DIFFERENT GAME BECAUSE THIS FRANCHISE IS NOW DEAD.    … Expand

    Characters. Terrible new ones and unchanged old ones. Protagonist plays NO PART IN THE STORY, according to cutscenes. Story. Ever thought about Handsome Jack? Yeah, we screwed him up and made 2 modern kids.    I wanted just about the same "Borderlands" it was before THIS.

    Graphics. Yeah, it's improved, but not really. Yet, minimal requirements get you nowhere, but 30 fps tops.
    Gameplay. Gearbox actually bothered to work on it. Pleasant UI, sliding, climbing, slam (hello, pre-sequel). Bosses are fun to fight against.
    Sound. It's great too. Bosses have their own unique soundtracks as well as we still get that Pandora-like ambience. Weapons make noises too, and not bad.
    Events. Honestly, I expected more. Not only the developer follows "the cult of season pass (DLC)", they actually try to make you GRIND. On the same map. With same objectives.
    Exclusivity. This is the biggest failure of Gearbox, along with EGS. You guys are trying to separate the world of gamers. You openly lie to us. Just because you don't like the cut taken by the shop, CUSTOMERS have to suffer.

    Overall: the disgusting product of lies and greed from Randy Pitchford, doing his best following EGS to separate players, to make people upset. More than that, a fishy game of questionable quality, created without actually listening to the fan base.

    Then developers began making me not to call male hunter "he" or adress him as "him". And i said: fock you, i don't have to listen to this crap, my hunter is abviosly a "he".
    Then leater in game i found out fockTONNS of childish cringeworthy "womanpower" "humor" (God forbid!). And    First it was only bugs of all sorts. Bugs and lack of optimization. And by "lack" i mean absolute absence.

    We are normal mentally healthy people and we will not be fed by your **** propaganda for our own money.

    Borderlands 1-2 were great games, 3, however, fails horrendously in comparison. If you want to pay full price for a buggy experience written by high school kids then go for it. I can't take it anymore, incredibly boring and obnoxious.

    The calypso twins could have been handled better, they are not the worst, but the way they handled them makes them so horrible that they should have just used handsome jack again. All of their lines are so god damn cringey. They don't really do much to make the player hate them, they kill off Maya, but the way they do it is really dumb, which ill get to when i write about Ava.

    Ava is the worst of it all, i won't go too into depth with Ava. just imagine having Rae from Starwars: Mary Sue Edition in borderlands 3... and yea, that is basically Ava. she just kinda exists and takes (well, owns) all the credit like you don't even exist. and to top it off she gets Maya killed and then it is apparently Lilith's fault, so yea.

    honestly the story is so bad it is hard to even recommend this game to anyone who played bl2. the writing is written by a bunch of boomers, the jokes are so stale and so old that you won't even chuckle. The only redeeming quality, is the game play, which has had a huge improvement but, even that is getting stale. i wish Anthony Burch wrote the game's story, at least he understood how to write one.    … Expand

    Gearbox has a problem: the fantastic Borderlands 2 is too good to be beaten. But in the case of Borderlands 3, it is still more than a worthy successor. The filmmakers brought many pop-cultural references, maybe pushing too hard on how they want to be “modern”, but otherwise it's a great game again. [Issue#298]

    Borderlands 3 offers a generous experience, with colourful characters, neat gameplay and a charming universe. Its formula, very close to that of the previous episodes does not revolutionize the show but its small new features bring a little freshness and the scenario makes us want to go to the end of the adventure. Its dynamism and nervousness make it a choice piece for adrenaline-ready FPS lovers and license fans.

    The fun, humorous storyline, some great dialogue and theatrical accents of the diverse characters, beautifully varied locations and the same great gunplay that Borderlands is renowned for, means that Borderlands 3 becomes another must have title in the series.
