  1. It's essentially Scrabble for the videogame generation, with mundane numerical scores replaced by hitpoints and flashy animated attacks, wrapped up in a cute and funny package. You'd have to be a serious logophobe not to love it.

There's a lot of depth to Bookworm Adventures, with many small, extraneous details adding to the charm and fun. [June 2007, p.68]
  3. One perfectly formed, endlessly absorbing, regularly amusing word game. If you're looking for some brainial stimulation, find logic puzzles like Sudoku and Slitherlink a trifle soulless, and have a nasty 'untreatable' case of leprosy or beriberi, then I really can't recommend Bookworm Adventures enough.

The game encourages you to dig deep into your vocabulary and create powerful attacks. It’s surprisingly engaging and when coupled with strategic elements such as Gem Tiles, and can also be quite challenging. To keep things fresh there are also a variety of mini-games on offer. A must for casual gamers.

You'll get your dozen hours of fun out of Bookworm Adventures, but you'll want to go back to "Bookworm" for more serious wordplay. [Mar 2007, p.70]

I enjoy the game's mechanic of having enemies and bosses with certain weaknesses and strengths, preventing the game from being predictable. However, I do wish that there was a replay mode with an advanced mode, similar to the replay mode in Plants vs. Zombies. The game is visually impressive with the art design, colors, and amazing characters. The simple mechanic of creating words to defeat enemies is amazing and I wish that the game could extended beyond two volumes. Overall, an amazing game and I would recommend it to other causal players. Expand
