Aug 18, 2023Blasphemous 2 is built on the back of the insanely funded Kickstarter success of the first game, with improved visuals, an even more cohesive art style that still evokes Francisco Goya and Spanish history, more fluid animations, and an extra step up in the music and voice acting. It really is an improvement in every way, and does so without forgoing what made the introduction special. While intimate knowledge of the original entry is not required, it serves to enhance both the world of Blasphemous and the story of the Penitent One. Throw in The Game Kitchen's house-made documentary for good measure, and you've got an enthralling franchise of mystery, misery, and history, capped off by not only one of the best games of its genre, but a fine entry in all of gaming. Any shortcomings be damned, as its stellar elements do more than repent for them.
-
Aug 17, 2023Bigger, better, avoiding the mistakes of its predecessor, Blasphemous 2 is one of the most faithful to its tenants, sequels we've seen in recent years. Its solid gameplay and intriguing level design and exploration are some of the reasons why we fell in love with this genre, in the first place.
-
Oct 2, 2023Very minor issues aside, I think that Blasphemous II is an absolutely fantastic and challenging addition to the list of Metroidvania titles that exist, and the majority of fans of the first game are going to adore this. I know I do.
-
Aug 21, 2023Blasphemous 2 is a fantastic sequel. The smooth gameplay, wonderful world building and awesomely gory and strange art make this a must play for fans of the genre and new acolytes looking to test it out. It improves on the original with some excellent streamlining and platforming to go with the combat. It plays, looks, and sounds great, and is a must play for anyone even slightly intrigued.
-
Aug 18, 2023A solid take on the Metroidvania genre, Blasphemous 2 stands apart by managing to create a highly atmospheric mechanically demanding experience that will satisfy the needs of those looking for a good challenge.
-
Aug 17, 2023Blasphemous 2 is an excellent sequel that improves upon its predecessor in almost all of the ways it fell short. The addition of three new weapons--and the litany of ways you can augment your build--ensure that combat is engaging throughout, while traversal has also been expanded upon in positive ways, removing much of the previous frustration by focusing on satisfying challenges and a tangible sense of progression. Combine this with another fascinating setting and deluge of haunting imagery, and this is a pilgrimage worth embarking on.
-
Aug 17, 2023I thoroughly enjoyed my time back with The Penitent One and would heartily recommend it both to fans of the original and newcomers alike. There are enough changes to make it feel like a new title whilst still having continuity in setting and aesthetic.
-
Aug 17, 2023Blasphemous 2 is exactly what it sets out to be. It meets and surpasses the benchmark set by the original ever so slightly, all while offering some new innovations to keep the formula fresh. Fans won’t be disappointed, and while it might not be a triumphant reinvention of the genre, it’s still a solid offering that newcomers can find the beauty of Metroidvanias through.
-
Aug 17, 2023Blasphemous II is a fantastic game that meets expectations as a fan of the first game and leaves the player satisfied and engaged throughout.
-
Aug 17, 2023Brutal, exciting and slightly unsettling, the second jaunt into Blasphemous' idiosyncratic world has tightened up the gameplay. The platforming is improved and the combat is fast and frantic. Best of all, it's still dripping with the religious themes of penance and guilt, which makes the world as fascinating as it is disturbing.
-
Aug 24, 2023Blasphemous II is far from abandoning its original essence, but that's not a negative since it's not just another sequel that implements boring recursion. Instead, it is a video game that takes advantage of its predecessor's heritage and optimizes its features to go further. Blasphemous II is balanced and extraordinary gameplay, proposes a story full of symbolism that will keep you attentive to every detail, and preserves its sound and graphic quality. It is the definitive sequel.

Oct 13, 2023That's not to say that I didn't stumble as I skated towards the game's end. I had to uncover nearly every secret I had missed to become powerful enough to take on the game's final boss. But if you're looking for a metroidvania that'll seize your imagination until Hollow Knight: Silksong, Blasphemous 2 offers wonders more sumptuous than many games with ten times its budget.
-
Oct 10, 2023At first glance Blasphemous 2 may look just like its predecessor, but it offers much more content and significantly improved gameplay. It’s a polished, addictive metroidvania that every fan of the genre should play.
-
Sep 7, 2023It's not as dark and gory as the first one, but it smooths out the rough edges and visibly surpasses it.
-
Aug 31, 2023Blasphemous 2 stands out with its surreal art direction and eccentric imagination. The map design unfolds through epic boss battles and a gradually expanding world. The introduction of three new weapons adds depth to the gameplay action, while exploration and challenges contribute to its excellence within the realm of modern metroidvania.
-
Aug 31, 2023Blasphemous 2 has an excellent world shaping, combat system and level design that come together to create this impressive and unique experience. It does take the lessons learnt from the previous game and delivers an excellent result.
-
Aug 24, 2023Blasphemous 2 uses all the positives that were firmly established in the first part and fully worked. Fans of this pixel platformer will be pleased with 3 different types of weapons and their uses, new items and a statue system in the inventory, as well as the continuation of the penitent's story in a new, spectacular world full of bizarre scenery.
-
Aug 17, 2023If you've been praying for a good Metroidvania, then Blasphemous 2 has come to offer you salvation. Strange cutscenes aside, this is an exceptional game full of tight combat, satisfying secrets, and incredible bosses.
-
Aug 17, 2023Anyone who likes Metroidvanias should absolutely make time for Blasphemous 2. Aside from an underwhelming final act, I had nearly consistent fun with this one from start to finish. From the gorgeous visuals to the customizable combat, your journey as the Penitent One will be filled with steady highs and only occasional lows. It’s a great sequel, a great game, and just a great time in general. If you were a fan of Blasphemous, you’re in for a treat with Blasphemous 2.
-
Aug 17, 2023Blasphemous 2 is another excellent Metroidvania that’s quite different from its predecessor in a number of ways, even if it doesn’t quite manage to supersede it overall.
-
Aug 18, 2023Blasphemous 2 presents itself to players as a significant step forward in almost all aspects already appreciated in the original chapter. It is not a sequel that reinvents the mechanics of the saga but is more the result of the team's precise desire to give fans a level metroidvania experience. Some uncertainties regarding collisions and the boss fights not always able to provide the challenge we were looking for, don't be deceived: the layered playful recipe and the excellent artistic direction manage to keep the player glued to the screen for the duration of the countryside. If you are looking for a peculiar title, thanks to its themes that travel on the border between the sacred and the profane, you should give it a chance: the second crusade of the Penitent is an experience you will not forget.
-
Aug 17, 2023Blasphemous 2 is the game that fans of the first chapter longed for. It is Blasphemous to the core, but it is even more beautiful to look at with its gruesome imagery, more varied in its combat system, and denser in content. Sure, the plot continues to be cryptic, the platforming component is left too much on the back burner for a metroidvania, and more importantly, the difficulty curve is poorly handled with a good chunk of the adventure too easy and a spike in challenge in the finale. Overall, however, we are talking about a fun game that never wastes the player's time in the re-exploration phase. There is room for improvement, but it is absolutely recommended.
-
Aug 17, 2023The Game Kitchen manages to do very well by combining video games and Andalusian folklore. They once again demonstrate their mastery of metroidvania with Blasphemous 2 by further pushing the formula of the first episode: three weapons directly integrated into the gameplay, an atmosphere that is still just as gloomy and combat that is gratifying and far from insoluble. However, those who did not catch the first episode are not likely to be converted as the evolution remains too timid in our opinion.
-
Aug 17, 2023Blasphemous 2's grim world packed with brutal monstrosities, haunting religious symbolism, and gripping action make it a standout title in the oversaturated Metroidvania genre.
-
Aug 17, 2023Blasphemous 2 is an excellent Metroidvania and a marked improvement over the original, even if it did occasionally make me cancel my lunch plans with its grotesqueries. What it lacks in originality with its design it more than makes up for with its bizarre world, appalling story, and inspired look and sound. The new weapons and focus on platforming definitely helped sustain my enjoyment for the campaign’s sizable duration, even when underwhelming enemy variety and unchallenging bosses leave something to be desired. Its stomach-churning religious torture porn might be as far as you can get from the adorable world of Hollow Knight, but you’d be hard-pressed to find something better to play while you continue your interminable wait for Silksong.
-
Aug 17, 2023Blasphemous 2 is a solid sequel that improves upon its predecessor by being truer to its Metroidvania inspirations. It refines the concept of the original game by mixing classic platforming with more modern Soulslike themes. The combat and platforming aren’t ground-breaking, relying a lot on backtracking and collectibles, but the difficulty level generally strikes a fine balance between being challenging and fair. Along with a wonderful art style and spirited music, the game makes blaspheming a reason worth fighting for.
-
Aug 17, 2023Blasphemous 2 is a sequel that knows how to improve a brilliant concept, previously held back by a dull combat system and a under-developed skill system. The art in the game and the monster design shine less in this second chapter of the series, but variety is now assured.
-
Aug 17, 2023A beautiful, dark, and atmospheric game set in one of the most alluring Souls-like game settings of recent years that hits too many of the same notes as its predecessor to have quite the same impact.
-
Aug 17, 2023Though steeped in stunning artwork and illuminated by its intriguing lore, Blasphemous 2 is ultimately a paint-by-numbers Metroidvania title that is occasionally more frustrating than it is fun.
-
Aug 17, 2023Blasphemous 2 is a successful blend of Metroidvania and design elements from From Software's games. Without reinventing the wheel on any score, The Game Kitchen delivers a clean copy with an engaging concept, satisfying progression and successful art direction.
-
Aug 23, 2023Blasphemous 2 is a really cool metroidvania, a full-fledged 2D soulslike and simply a good game with appealing pixel-art. It pulls you in and is able to keep the experience fresh.
-
Aug 18, 2023Blasphemous 2 is a challenging Souls-like Metroidvania, with a top-notch atmosphere. Unfortunately, it will also challenge your patience, given its confusing plot, intentional vagueness, and repetitive use of the same puzzle platforming mechanics.
-
Aug 17, 2023I enjoyed my time with Blasphemous 2. I’ve unlocked both endings, scoured and pillaged the entire map, and completed every quest I could find, and, where I found the first game severely wanting in the fun factor, the sequel delivered in spades. Despite this, it’s held back by simplistic quests and bosses so unfair as to taint the whole experience. At certain points, thematic suffering bleeds through the cracks in the fourth wall and becomes part of the gameplay.
-
Aug 17, 2023Blasphemous 2 is a well-constructed but ultimately conventional Metroidvania, and while it still delivers on holy grotesquerie and striking visuals, the end result is a sequel that feels markedly smaller in scope.

Aug 21, 2023Blasphemous 2 isn't interested in experimenting. It wants to do one thing, which is metroidvania action, and does it very well. While staying true to the formula, it does however take some room for innovative design within its own limits: worlds that guide the player without taking the fun out of exploring, a variety of pacing and as well as several RPG elements adding some little depth and customization to combat. Overall, it's an immersive journey through a grounded fantasy world with an unique aesthetic and very solid gameplay. A faithful (hah) sequel seeking to improve on every possible aspect [Recommended]
-
Aug 17, 2023Blasphemous 2 is a strong union of narrative and function. Its gloomy world is full of nooks and crannies to explore, and its inhabitants have compelling stories to tell. Its boss fights — arguably the biggest piece of twine — may be frayed, but the slick mechanics and biting themes more than make up for any weakness in the braid.
-
Aug 17, 2023Perhaps that comes down to taste, as does Blasphemous 2’s mean and mysterious vibe in general. The cryptic parts will trip up some people more than others, but even as someone who fell flat on their face I can respect the deft weaving of systems into setting - which is, again, excellent. A few reveals made me say "Jesus Christ!" aloud, then chuckle at the appropriateness. I’d had my fill after the 12 hours it took to pay my penance, leaving a few areas unexplored and some mysteries that remain ravelled, but they’re there for those that want ‘em. By the hallowed murmuring of the sacred Archonfraternity: fill your boots.
