It's a beautiful game with lots of potential, but it fails the most important aspect of a video game. It's not fun. The incredibly pretentious tone, droning mood, and apparent lack of music is putting me to sleep. This is not for me.

    Cons
    - So many repeated enemies from the first game (this is probably my biggest problem)
    - Doesn't have the same nightmarish, gritty appeal the first had. Its still dark and gothic, still beautiful, but the aesthetic seems more muted and less inspired than the first
    - less challenge than the first (I suppose this could be a pro or con depending on taste)

I suppose I was hoping for more, it didn't quite have that spark the first had for me. Either way though, an enjoyable time and a solid game, worth your time.

Blasphemous 2's bosses didn't feel quite as epic as the original, and the game feels a little easier (with exception to its 2nd to last boss). The controls are slightly better, and gameplay is more fun with the weapon options. Not crazy for the occasional additional art style, but its not a big deal. Overall, the game kept me entertained but never surprised, or surpassed my expectations.

The game introduced three new weapons to diversify the play styles of the game. A swinging ball, a rapier, and a scimitar. The ball in my opinion is primarily used to clear out early game mobs and nothing further than that. It does higher damage than the others but very slow. It serves primarily as mob clearing till you get to the boss fights. this doesn’t have a parry but you can ignite your enemies with the r1 instead. The rapier acts like a very fast weapon which can decimate most big enemies really fast. it works more so, if you don’t take damage while damaging enemies you can get the lighting buff on the weapon. its very good to use when facing against some bosses and non-crouching enemies. this has a normal parry with a perfect parry option that’s basically a sliding dashThe scimitar is basically like the mel culpa from the original game. parry’s the same way. acts the same. has the buff of doing more damage at the cost of your own when you activate it. the most balanced of the weapons. All weapons come with progress abilities pertaining to each weapon and you get progression abilities as you progress as well. this is one thing I kind of didn’t like about this game because it does not reward you as much for exploration vs how blasphemous 1 did it but at the same time, they don’t take a prayer bead slot anymore. They introduced a new statue system where you can put buffs on your character, you can have up to 8 slots.they added 3 upgrade rows for each weapon, some increase defense, some increase damage, and some are new abilities for the weapons.the statues and upgrade rows each require a new currency called marks which you gain from either the yellow bowls, killing enemies enough times or some shops sell a couple. The difficulty of this game is way easier than blasphemous 1. The only time I died was because of bosses and barely anywhere else. This is good if you like easier games but coming from how challenging blasphemous 1 was, it kinda leaves a somewhat bad taste in the mouth. Most bosses have multiple opening where you can attack them except for the boss before the final fight. theirs only one type of opening where you can damage the boss. which is pretty annoying. I literally just did the time stop with fervor regen statue bonuses.around 70-80 percent are re-used enemies from the first game (this doesn’t include bosses for those are all new and different). some enemies have slight difference in how they attack and if they jump to get to you.upgrading the weapons is less interesting than how blasphemous 1 does it, blasphemous 2 has statues that act like a collectible while blasphemous 1 had lore associated with it.some abilities have been nerfed (the protection) by increasing the cost. theirs a quick cast abilities and normal cast. one is fast game play and one is slower to activate.I feel like blasphemous 2 changes a lot about the gameplay but also there are instances where they take two steps back. 2.0.
    Story
The story of this game start off after the end of blasphemous 2 but when is the true question.the game starts with the first boss and you are required to defeat all the previous penitent ones and some others sprinkled in.the game story feels more direct vs how blasphemous feels more flavor text like.two endings of the game, didn’t like neither of them honestly. There is a good array of side quest and some are hidden like the guilt and the honey statue side quest.the yerma side quest I missed because I assumed its like the veridiana but you can still buy the prayer gained so its not missable.the baby side quest is a very interesting side quest and how graphic it is/was kind of shows you the gravity a father would go through to feed their child.my favorite boss fights was the bosses that had two-three phases.blasphemous 2 suffers the same curse that the final boss is basically a joke.I think currently with blasphemous 2 at its launch state, story wise felt more so to me a solid 1.5.
    Music
I think the music for blasphemous 2 is very similar in scope to what I felt with blasphemous 1.it didn’t make me bop my head and look for the sound track after. I feel like the music fits the overall them of the gameso 2.0 feels like a good solid score for this game
    Performance
This game runs very well but still has this weird motion blurring issue I think that’s whats its called. took my eyes a few times to focus again as well. it deserves a 2.0
    Price Point
This game has an msrp of 29.99, they had a pre-order sale on the pc. If you are going to offer a pre-order sale of a couple of bucks. just make the game that price from the start.the game felt like a 20 dollar game package as a 30 dollar game. I don’t believe they did enough to warrant that price point.so I’ll s

I'll come back to the game when my issues are either patched or modded out down the line, not a bad game by any stretch but it's also thoroughly okay.

This feels like a big step up from the first. Navigating the world is more interesting this time around and the way the map opens up over time is pretty cool. The new weapons help add a good bit of variety as well.
My only real complaint would be the last area was a headache to navigate, more frustrating than fun and the second last boss represents a massive unexpected difficulty spike.

It almost felt like the game was trying to find itself until really hitting some momentum at the end. Blasphemous 2 picks up right from there and it hits an awesome stride with a very refined experience which still maintains everything that made the original great. It’s a challenging Metroidvania with gameplay that echoes that of the Souls games. Spamming moves doesn’t work well after the initial few hours, and you are really required to memorize movement and attack patterns to defeat enemies. The multiple weapons with independent skill trees, and other modifiers are well more thought out this time around which makes everything feel more purposeful. The gameplay really provides a far more polished and fluid experience this time around, which says a lot because the original game was not bad by any means. Where the game shines most is what really stood out in the first game - the dark art and atmosphere that is heavily influenced by Catholic and Orthodox design. They nailed it again, everything from the enemies, to the music, to the dialogue, to the artwork in the level design and backgrounds is all absolutely top shelf. It’s just beautiful and twisted artwork from start to finish, and it is woven into the lore and atmosphere of the game itself in such a precise way. The story is pretty straight forward, but the lore lies underneath is deep and a bit nebulous, which I mean as a compliment. I’m sure an analysis exists on YouTube that explains everything, but I really enjoyed just reading the lore of items you pick up and piecing it together with the dialogue to try to create your own impression of the story. The only two complainst I have is that it feels a little less challenging than the first game (outside of the bosses which are challenging and rewarding), the other being how difficult it is to figure out where you need to go next. I spent multiple hours just wandering around figuring out where I am supposed to go next and where I can unlock the next ability that will take me a little further. The lack of direction is worse than it was in the first game, and it is the only reason I did not rate the game a 9/10. Otherwise they really did an awesome job with this game, I highly recommend it as it is one of the best Metroidvanias out there, regardless of its few imperfections. Expand

I got like two good boss fights which were also mid not great... makes me think that Mea Culpa was S-tier and I miss it... just like Dark Souls 2 a bad sequel but a solid game not to miss

blasphemouse 2 is going in the right direction with respect to the first part, now it's a real metroidvania, but there is something to fix of course, a lot of repetitive mobs and in the end it becomes stuffy from their number, and I'm a big fan of the series and I hope the third part will become a game for me 10 out of 10

Blasphemous 2 is a generic metroidvania that sacrificed many of the qualities that made the first game spectacular. The art is weaker, the combat is obnoxious, and the platforming is trite. The original is a superior experience.

To elaborate, the art style has been dumbed down a bit. Particularly the cutscenes(there are a lot of cutscenes in this game). Throughout the game this style change is obvious. To name a specific example, the hub area in the first blasphemous is a haunting and desolate town filled with people suffering terribly. The second game, it is just a town. To be clear, the art is not bad, it is simply inferior to the first game.

The bosses are quite good but in general combat is not fun, and perhaps the main issue. The combat has been sped up, and emphasized since the first game. This is particularly noticeable with more challenging enemies and confined spaces. The contact damage that was mostly unnoticeable in the first game is extremely prevalent due to the combat and enemy design. I found this irritating and it made encounters frustrating rather than properly challenging. I also came across many bugs, particularly with some of the larger enemies.

I remember my first experience with the platforming in the original Blasphemous game, I fell into spikes and became a penitent kebab. The platforming here feels quite different...generic and bland. The penitent one has seemingly overcome his spike allergy as now they're merely an inconvenience rather than a serious threat.

Can't recommend this one. The first is far better.

That's not to say that I didn't stumble as I skated towards the game's end. I had to uncover nearly every secret I had missed to become powerful enough to take on the game's final boss. But if you're looking for a metroidvania that'll seize your imagination until Hollow Knight: Silksong, Blasphemous 2 offers wonders more sumptuous than many games with ten times its budget.
