  • Summary: Urban Warfare brings 'Mech combat to the vast cityscapes of the Inner Sphere! Electronic warfare, large-scale building destruction, environmental mechanics, new enemy units and more make the urban sprawl a whole new battlefield.

Tremendous improvements to the core gameplay loop provide new reasons to use light mechs and jump jets. The new biome creates new fighting corridors and new mechs create a way to make those hallways dangerous. While it doesn’t bring much new outside of combat, this is a must-have and a reason to revisit the BattleTech universe.

Urban Warfare brings dynamic changes to the battlefield unlike anything before it. Those changes are surprising, challenging, and push the exploding, collapsing city in new directions. The graphics engine groans under the weight of urbanization. But the city is bright and beautiful.

A solid if slightly disappointing offering, bringing fun and engaging urban conflict to the strategic landscape of the Inner Sphere. New mechs, enemy vehicles, missions and equipment round out the additions, for committed fans it’s pretty much essential.

Urban Warfare has been a welcome opportunity for me to fire BattleTech back up, and I've been generally delighted to see how far the game has come over the past year. It's a game that I liked quite a bit off the bat, and now a good number of the rough edges have been sanded off, or at least been supplemented with ways around them. My recommendation, then, is to fire up a new campaign and see what's new. Knock the rust off those gargantuan metal legs and get a feeling of whether a stroll through the city would do you some good.

Game play on easy is just as hard as the highest level.
Playing this will result in yourself getting very familiar with the "Restart Mission"

Enemy AI is horrible. Mission objectives are nearly impossible to get 100% every time.
It's not so much of a 'play the game', but more of a 'you have to do this to complete the mission'. Leaving very little in the way of strategy, and more of a 'move to this location or else you will get pummeled'.
Percentage chance for your weapons to hit is very luck driven, not percentage driven. You can have all weapons that have 95% change to hit and only half will.
The game does have some enjoyment to it, but the constant 'Restart Mission', 'Restart Mission', 'Restart Mission' wears you down really fast. This is the primary reason for my low rating. There is always a reason to restart the mission.
And as a bonus the game sometimes freezes. Leaving you to redo the mission you just finished if you didn't get a chance to save.
