if i would have needed to write a review about BF4 the first 3 months i would give it a rating of 4 Max, cause Dice released a game which was broken and unfinished at best. Most of us had constant crashes all over the place and we coudlnt even finish a single round.
After now a good 6+ Month we have to admit that they finally fixed most most of the stuff, (insane long time period thou)

So those issues aside, BF4 is great to play if you love teamplay, however the the whole release is more like a BF3 DLC with a new name, graphics didnt get much better and the levolution they announced sooo big is more a fake, its tru big building fall, but its always the same so there is no AI to it, its more like a general map has two stages, one with all in tact, and one where most of the environment is destroyed. All over still a great game, but they way it was sold to us, and they horrible state it was delivered, should give them a big downrating, cause afterall it was a big cheat, imho

Good graphics, but poorly optimized for PCs,especially for 32bit ones! Storyline poor,no major plot. But we don't play a shooter for it's plot. When it comes down to the shooting aspect it is average. It is too easy to get all of the top achievements even on hard that you feel like an total terminator badass. During the campaign I only died twice. So overall BF4 such an average game in all aspects.

Vehicles feel awesome as before and now you don't have to get killed countless times in jets or helicopters to get flare unlock because they are unlocked from the at the beginning. Singleplayer is nothing special but after all Battlefield has always been about multiplayer and the singleplayer is mainly just there because its almost become a standard for Battlefield games to have it. I play BF online exclusively.

I love: The graphics; they're beautiful. I max out with a single GTX760, no SLI. The map sizes; so far they've been huge. "So far" because I can't stay on a server long enough to get a feel for the maps available but I'll get back to stability in a moment. The game play, imo, is the same as it ever was. The map sizes; so far they've been huge. "So far" because I can't stay on a server long enough to get a feel for the maps available but I'll get back to stability in a moment.

The game play, imo, is the same as it ever was. I've been a fan of the BF franchise since BF1942 DEMO and having not played BF in 2 years (BFBC2 I never played 3) I was able to jump into BF4 and get straight to work with minimal drama.

    I hate:
Dependencies. There're too many nonsensical dependencies between me and the game. I click on the BF4 game icon in my start menu and the first thing that opens is Origin, then Firefox, then I get to using the server browser as it occurs on the website which takes a while before finally, The Game [datface.jpg]. Very wasteful and aggravating. What happens when the browser has a problem? No game. But I'm not trying to browse; I'm trying to play.

Immoderate capitalism. I paid about $100 for BF4 "Premium". I went online, chose a server and found myself in a queue. My position was 2 and beside that appeared "PREMIUM PRIORITIZED" or something to that effect which said to me that I'd been put ahead of someone else in line because I was "PREMIUM". This's a game, not a lesson in socioeconomics. I don't want to know that the server considers me a "preferred" player because I spent more money. Just put my arse in a queue and let's get it on already.

Instability! I can get in a good 7 minutes between CTD (crash[es] to desktop). It repeatedly crashes and on a couple of occasions I've fallen with bluescreens. I've been building my own PCs since 1997 and I've bluescreened about 4 times since 2002. Twice playing GTA3 (2002-video driver incompatibility) and twice over the past couple days wrestling with BF4 (BCCode: 1000007e). Not okay.

    Win 7x64 SP1, Xeon 1230 ver. 2 3.3GHz, 16GB, GTX 760

I know the game is till relatively new but I can't see this having been tested prior to release. QC was playing Bomberman 64 or something in the basement when they should've been testing. If I could play the game I'd have rendered of score of something like 8 or 9, I'm sure. In its present condition, however, this game is only worth a 6 7 at best.

Currently the game has quite a few problems, and yeah the campaign is pretty plot-empty and boring, but the multi-player experience is as fun as ever.

The only problems I really have in multi-player are the many spots players can camp and how unbalanced the maps are for certain game levels (but not for Conquest).

The multi-player is fine OTHER THAN THE SPAWNING.
The multi-player is tons of fun, but I recommend having a team to play with because you can occasionally get stuck with mentally challenged 4 year olds.

This may be a personal thing but I find that I get spawn-killed WAY to much for it to be by chance.

Unlocking things is an absolute pain and the game is not necessarily nice to new people. After two weeks, you should have a decent set of gear to choose from.

The single player campaign is crap and makes no sense and it is made worse by the fact that you actually have to play it in order to unlock certain (good) weapons.

The "Levolution" is just a gimmick and should be viewed as such. It is not a serious game play element. Sometimes, it is fun to take out campers by making buildings collapse, but that is it. It is simply for entertainment and is just a cool thing to have.

Sidenote- RUSH IS INCREDIBLY ONE SIDED. THE DEFENDERS ALWAYS HAVE THE UPPER HAND. IF YOU EXPECT TO WIN A GAME OF RUSH WHILE YOU ARE ATTACKING, YOU BETTER HAVE ONE HELL OF A TEAM. ATTACKERS ALMOST ALWAYS RUN OUT OF TICKETS.
However, since it alternates between defending and attacking, you won't go on a 30 rush game loosing spree and it is still fun even if you don't win.

DICE stuck to their roots with Battlefield 4. The game felt like a pretty fresh experience, at least for an FPS, that was until I realised how unfinished the game is.

First, this game is flawed. The gameplay is good, the maps are very hit and miss, but generally very enjoyable and the graphics are very nice. However, DICE have thrown the game out into the public with a lot of broken strings that, even after 14 months after release, still haven't bothered to fix. Instead, they decide to waste time whining on how EA robbed them while releasing mediocre DLC's that most people do not care for. This game is technically good and my negative views on it may be seen as nit-picking, but trust me, it is not. Many times I have had to give up playing due to problems that have overly complicated fixes that numerous purchasers have become victim to.

Despite this, the game is pretty much everything it looks on the outside. Its your typical addicting, eye candy military shooter. I admit that I didn't play the campaign but after Battlefield 3 it was clear where the ambition was, which is the multiplayer. If you know anything about modern FPS game's you probably know how the successful Battlefield formula works. Each map has typically about 32 to 64 slots, depending on the gamemode. The most popular gamemode is the conquest gamemode where two opposing sides must hold as different points of the map as they can to decrease the amount of tickets lost, the first team to reach 0 tickets loses. The maps are large and look stunning. As previously mentioned the map designs are very hit and miss. Some maps are very well designed, such as the brilliant Siege of Shanghai, a typical city map separated by the incredibly large and well designed skyscraper in the middle. This maps standouts out as it accomplishes the feeling of challenge when trying to capture or defend each point, all of which are very well designed. However, even this map if flawed after the skycraper falls as a 'levelution' which definitely was a poor design choice. The desert/warehouse setting of Zavod is also an excellent map which held some of my most intense and fondest moments of playing these games. These aside, BF4 suffers from a lot of poor map design, ranging from the messy and incomplete Hainan Resort to the claustrophobic and dull Operation Locker. The maps really don't balance out and the brilliant maps do not make up for the embarrassingly shocking ones.

The new content is also limited. Not much feels new, this may be a bit unfair since I did not play Battlefield 3 that much, but I felt as though I wasn't getting my $90 worth playing it. This point feels a bit unfair as it's pretty much what's expected for a sequel to a successful multiplayer FPS but its jump from its predecessor feels small compared to what BF3 did from BF2.

As negative as this review may feel, I actually had quite a blast playing this game. It definitely won't a game I see myself coming back to in the near future but it served it purpose well in delivery a fast paced, gorgeous FPS that I can see fans enjoying. For me however, the games bugs and numerous problems make the game more frustrating than it should be.

If you can get past the cheesy voice acting and bad writing, there is a bit of fun to be had in the single player. Luckily the campaign is short and doesn't overstay it's welcome as an appetizer to the main course, which is the multiplayer. One knock against the single player is that you are required to play it to unlock some weapons for multiplayer use; a dumb feature as the majority of gamers will go straight into the MP without wanting to shoot bots 6-10 hours.

    Multiplayer: Welcome back to Battlefield
_Maps_: Borrowing heavily from BF3, BF4 offers the usual array of large maps. Where this game particularly excels is its water levels. The maps including boats are cleverly designed, allowing you to actually use the multiple types of watercraft for nautical domination rather than just as a means to cross. Some maps are a bit too small for my liking, which means you can't sit with a sniper rifle 500 yards back and practice headshots all day, but it also increases the ferocity of the action. In many maps the developers chose to build upwards instead of outwards, which leads to some interesting battles. Furthermore, they've re-introduced true destructibility of the environments, which is a huge plus because rather than rooting enemies out of a fortified building, you can simply blow the entire thing up.
_Game types_: All the usual types are present, TeamDM, SquadDM, Rush, Conquest. I particularly like the Obliteration game type where two teams fight for control of a single respawning bomb which must be taken to each of three enemy bases to win the game.
_Vehicles_: The usual array of vehicles. They've made flying helicopters much easier. The fighter jets spawn flying, so you don't need to worry about those tricky take-offs.
_Connectivity_: This is a big sticking point for some players, complaints of constant disconnections and server crashes. The rumors are true, but exaggerated and improving daily. I've been playing for two weeks and I've had no problems with latency, the game doesn't lag. I have however had issues where my game will crash on spawn or an entire server will crash randomly. In a 4 hour session you could expect 1-2 disconnections.
_Battle log_: BF4 uses the Battle log system to track stats outside of the game and I must say that they improved the BF3 system by leaps and bounds. A plethora of stats, easy to customize your character, easy to connect with other players. Game filtering, favorites, history, it's all there. Dice/EA posts on Battle log when they are having issues or are performing updates so you aren't left in the dark.

    Summary:
In conclusion, I give this game a 7/10.

    Pros:
    -Good graphics
    -Level destruction is back
-Great menu/stats system both in and out of the game
    -Sea battles!
-Enough unlockables to keep you going for 100+ hours

    Cons:
-Disconnections/crashes still happen more than I'd like
-Same old Battlefield nothing truly revolutionary
-Graphics stutter/tear a bit more than they should, but not enough to impact gameplay

So with all that being said those are the only two reasons why I gave this game a 7 vs 10. There is a ton of fun to be had here and i have thoroughly enjoyed mowing down my enemies in MP. With the new customization options soldier classes are the most diverse they ever have been. The game is beautiful as well and level design is unique and fun. but it does fall short of some of the BF3 maps like metro, and seine. With that being Said DICE has a long track record of providing map packs for its games, and soon the most popular Bf3 maps will be brought to this game on the new frostbite 3 engine.

I agree with the people saying that the game feels sometimes like Battlefield 3.5, but some improvements have been done. Sounds are better, graphics also mildly and the guns behave more realistically.

    Problems this game still has:
-Random crashes every now and then
-Sometimes it's a pain in the ass to get to a server, since the service is not working properly
-Hit detection sometimes drags behind. You run to the cover, get there and die from a shot that should have hit you earlier, if it was going to

Another annoyance is the battlepacks... You're unlocking a weapons utilities, and sometimes you just can't know what you'll get, and quite often the random unlocks just prove to be completely useless...

But all these things aside, the actual gameplay is still nice.

Battlefield 4 could just as well be called Battlefield 3.5. The new Battlefield features are only marginal improvements over Battlefield 3, but even as such it leaves the competitors way behind. Hopefully the bugs will be squashed soon. [Nov 2013]

Even if multiplayer wasn't buggy, Battlefield 4 would still only be a barely passable installment in all respects besides the snazzy graphics. EA and DICE played it safe by providing the same thing they did the last time around, with another phoned-in campaign and only minor alterations to the online.

Battlefield 4 keeps soldiering on in the same footsteps as previous games in the series. The lack of worthwhile news makes you wish for more. Dice stays in its comfort zone calls for explosions and not much more. The series needs to evolve or fade out.
