This is my third time reviewing this game. First one was on the actual day of the launch (gave it a 9/10), and the other was few months after (6/10).

This update is post- "netcode patch", more information at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbJsOLkxbO0 (A bit of background of myself, irrelevant in a sense, skip if you want to) I wouldn't be ashamed to admit that I am a Battlefield

I wouldn't be ashamed to admit that I am a Battlefield fanboy, even though my first fps game was CoD 4. My "Battlefield experience" started with Battlefield 3, with 1/2 a thousand hours put into it. I joined in BF4's beta and played consecutively (every day) until the day it ended, then i got the full game, and kept on playing since.

    ---

Battlefield 4 is simply a reboot of Battlefield 3, except with much better graphics (this is controversial & subjective however, which i won't want to get too in depth on), better gameplay (?), as well as a much better experience in general (again, this is subjective).

What i really liked about Battlefield 4 is the all-out infantry & vehicle warfare, something that very few FPS out there is able to provide. This game touches quite a bit on the aspect of teamwork, as well as gunplay (ability to control the recoil of your gun, manage your shots, accuracy, etc).

Being as transparent as i possibly can, this game has really improved a lot since its launch. The recent "netcode patch" increased the tick rate of the game by a slight bit, which indeed did affect the smoothness of the game. At least to a point where kill trades or deaths behind cover/wall are reduced by a significant amount. The netcode issues are arguably the most prevalent and predominant issue in the game right now and since launch.

I genuinely recommend getting this game, especially if you have a couple of friends, it is extremely fun and addicting.

The PC version requires you to run Origin, you internet browser, and the game. The client crashes almost every other match you play. The sound cuts out almost every match. The hit detection is sometimes spotty. The maps are imbalanced on every gametype except conquest-try swimming for a minute into sniper fire armed only with a pistol to reach one of seven objectives (rush on paracel storm). Vehicles are imbalanced as well: choppers are hard to fly, hard to get kills with, and easy to shoot down. Tanks are invincible to everything except engineers, and jets... jets. Engineer is the only worthwhile class. The unlocks are terrible-most of the starting weapons are objectively better in every way. Spending an hour unlocking another red dot sight that gives the same benefits is really obnoxious. The list goes on and on.
The core gameplay is fun, really fun. Just turn a blind eye to all of the broken mechanics and you will be fine.

The game play is solid and it is visually stunning. Also, there and not even close to as many glitches as people say there are. After the first week i have yet to have the game crash on me. There are many great improvements over Battlefield 3: the graphics and sound are better, the interface has been improved and you can now select spawn locations by clicking on the map with the mouse. The best change in my opinion is that most of the maps are great. To be frank, most of the maps in Battlefield 3 were terrible. There are so many great maps here and there is a good mix of large open fields, islands and buildings. Parcel Storm in particular is really great and reminds me of Invasion of the Philippines from Battlefield 1942. The weather even changes, forcing large waves and gusty winds. Flood Zone is also good but to be honest, once the water level rises, it does get a bit ridiculous as the match turns into a swim- a-thon rather than a battle. Other maps such as Rogue Transmission and Lancang Dam are also great and improve upon the let downs that Battlefield 3 presented.
In all, Battlefield 4 improves Battlefield 3 in almost every way. Sure, it may seem a bit of a stretch to pay full price for a game that seems to be very similar to its predecessor. But the many subtle improvements make it a great purchase. Once the wrinkles are ironed a little further, this will be a truly great online FPS game. Its even better optimised that Battlefield 3 too and runs flawlessly on my laptop!

Battlefield 4 fails in same way as Battlefield 3. Singleplayer is once again bad, very short and not interesting. On the other hand Multiplayer is great, there are some changes from BF3 and most of them are in a good way. Unfortunately there are technical problems that will be hopefully sorted out in next few weeks/months. In a few months time it will be almost perfect game.

Crossing over from the Call of Duty franchise to the Battlefield franchise wasnt easy, ive been playing CoD since 2009 and been playing Battlefield since 2010. At the time, I was a CoD fanboy and didnt play anything else, I thought to myself "This game is so good, there will never be a better shooter", and while that was true for some of the CoD games I played, the series quickly came to a downfall. I had pre-ordered BO2 hardened edition and payed roughly £100 for it, a mistake I would regret. That was when I told myself that I would never play another CoD again. What was there to play then? Battlefield. As I said earlier, it was hard for me to cross over, mainly because the game styles from the two games differed so much, CoD was run and gun, Battlefield was PTFO. I got BF3 for my birthday and played the heck out of that game, I simply loved it. Eventually I actually got good at it, and at the end of my BF3 days I was actually proud to call myself a good Battlefield player.

When BF4 was announced I was very excited, and eventually I pre-ordered the Limited Edition and BF4 Premium, something that I have not regretted. When the game came out it was a mere disappointment, lots of bugs and glitches, client and server crashes, game modes broken etc. They had also nerfed the vehicles, giving them a limited supply of ammunition, a mechanic which I hate. They had increased the time it took to reload flares and ECM Jammer from 7 secs to 22 secs, something which keeps you from killing people before some person with a stinger locks on to you and you have to go back to your base. I have to say though that playing as infantry is a lot of fun now, more than it was in BF3, but the horrible netcode gives you those "How the f*ck did he kill me?" moments. I would have given this game a 7/10 until I heard that DICE will be making the limited vehicle ammo thing for hardcore servers only, and also possibly changing the Flare/ECM reload time. That made me give the game a 8/10. Of course, they will be fixing the bugs, and when they do the game will propably get a 9/10 by me. The campaign had a horrible story but very satisfying and fun battles, but Battlefield as CoD is centered around the multiplayer and not the singleplayer.

If you dont mind people having all the unlocks before you and being at a disadvantage, I suggest you buy the game 1 or 2 months after the release. But if you can resist the bugs and want to have all the unlocks at the same time as the others, then I highly recommend that you buy the game now.

This game has been a blast. It is refining the way video games are nowadays. Now this game is the definition of "next-gen".
They fixed a lot of the problems of Battlefield 3 such as balancing, WAY better map design, more modes, bigger maps, more destructibility. With these fixes, I had such a more enjoyable time than the previous great Battlefield 3.
The only downside of this great game

The only downside of this great game is the technical issues alongside. Frequent crashes, optimization, and server failures have disappointed me. Its always scary getting a good score cause you never know if the game might crash and you can lose all that hard earned XP or even possibly guns! I know they rushed out this game, but these are the most important parts of the game: Making sure the game is made correctly!
I haven't played the game since they haven't fixed these issues. Hopefully I will be back to slay some more noobs :P

Battlefield 4 caught my interest when i first saw the building fall on the E3 demo, and the first question you asking is does it hold up, and what i have played which is every map and both dlc's . is yes it completely made that building fall down seem like a ordinary day in the battle of Battlefield 4, from the moment i get into battle i immediately get sucked in to the beautiful worlds and maps of BF. thanks to the frostbite 3 engine every gun bullet and shred of grass is well realized and well thought out in the maps in multi player of BF4.

but i bet your wondering, is the game fun.... well yes it is, the game play in BF4 is very well done with almost all guns being very balanced and for a novas it was not to difficult to get the hang of BF4 with a couple tip videos and some practice you should be on your way to being a killer in the Battlefield.

some of the flaws are some balancing issues and some weird glitches and bugs sometimes, also some crashing and on last gen consoles the devs really had to pull back on some things to keep in range of the old hard ware of the PS3 and the Xbox 360, making that great Battlefield experience on pc, not even close on last gen hardware. on next gen it is is almost the same experience on pc, if your wondering

this game is a fun and enjoyable game for novices and noobs and i will be playing i until l i see the Battlefield 5 logo on my origin account in 2015. i give it a 8.5/10

this is like BF3.5 rather than BF4.
there is no much progress from BF3.
maybe if this BF4 came out as BF3 two years ago, everybody gave it applause. in fact, BF4 isn't that bad game. at least, not game at all. but also this is not very good game. there are a lot of problem that everyone already said here. the worst problem is that EA try to make another COD(Call of Duty) game.

Battlefield 4 is an excellent multiplayer game and a bland single-player experience, filled with bugs but still nevertheless enjoyable. To start off, this is not BF3.5. Here's a complete list of all the new features:

Frostbite 3 engine (dynamic weather effects and destruction BF3's engine could not handle)
    Commander Mode returning
    Levolution
    Customizable knives and vehicles
    Counter-knife
    Improved and dynamic naval combat
    5-Man squads
    No blue tint
    China faction
    Platoons
    Spectator mode
    Improved and responsive Battlelog
New character models that make it easier to differentiate between faction to faction
Suppression improved; toned down on all weapons except for sniper rifles and light machine guns
    Field upgrades unlocks
    Spot animation
New game modes like Obliteration and Defuse, as well as improvements to existing game modes such as Rush and Conquest.

And that may not even be all of it.

However, one big disappointment for me is the single-player campaign, its ends up turning into a Michael Bay explosions everywhere movie with little to no redeeming qualities. Its an improvement over Battlefield 3's, with much more open environments that allow players to approach levels in multiple ways, but ultimately is pointless. The pacing and writing is abysmal, characters are thin, and is not worth a play-through.

But as a multiplayer game it succeeds. The 64-player battles are unmatched, the destruction is more Bad Company 2 style, as well as a new mechanic called "Levolution." Most of these major map-changing events are triggered by players, but some are not. Levolution is mostly scripted but still nevertheless enjoyable, and change the tide of the battle immensely. Some Levolution events are better than others, the skyscraper on Siege of Shanghai gets old after it falls down 3 or 4 times, but other events like flooding the city on Flood Zone are far harder to trigger and change up the overall gameplay.

The reviews on here are just purely immature, Battlefield 4 is an excellent game, it has noticeable launch issues which decreases its overall appeal but is worth the price of admission.

    - The Best -
    Level Design
    Level destruction
    Level dynamics
    Graphics

The levels and visuals in Battlefield are by far the best part of this game. The changing landscape and destructible environment makes the game feel very cool. There are moments when you are unable to capture an enemy point, so you decide to tank the entire place down instead. Those saying that this is merely a gimmick are insane. No other games even attempts to do the things that this game does. From capture points that move depending on who owns them, levels flooding and needing to make your way to higher ground, or a hurricane coming through and making waves huge, the levels are by far the most impressive thing about Battlefield 4. Hiding behind a concrete wall? Too bad, a tank just blew that ish up and you need to move. Camping on top of a building as a sniper? Make sure you base jump off when you here it rumbling to the ground. 10/10 for the level concepts, and all visuals in general. Very impressive on Max settings.

    - The Good -
    Player spawn system
    Vehicle balance
    Gun Balance

    - The Bad -
Glitchy movement, especially around recently demolished items
    Glitchy sound
    General Mobility
General "Make things easier" modes actually make things harder.

For all the great things this game does, it is lacking in some pretty basic functions. By far the most frustrating thing in the game in my opinion so far is the inability to maneuver around and over certain objects. There will be moments where nothing but a 2x4 sitting 5 inches above the ground will stop you from going to where you want to go. Try to jump over it, and you will hit an imaginary ledge that you cannot jump over unless you step back and clear the object all together. It can be worked around, but in a game that should be as fast paced as ever, you get slowed down by some really stupid stuff. This problems happens the most with objects that have been destroyed, but it even happens without it at times, making this a big downside for me.

Another reason for not giving this game a higher score was the glitched out sound. The game really feels like an unfinished product when you are running in a giant battlefield, only to have a tank go right past you..... while you hear absolutely nothing. The sound decides to just drop out entirely whenever it feels like it in certain levels, and it is pretty amazing that this problem wasn't fixed earlier. I realize that this problem will be fixed in upcoming patches, but this is a clear sign that Battlefield wanted to beat out the release date of COD Ghosts, and worried less about the finished product. The funny thing is, the sound issue wasn't in the beta, which just means they were trying to get as many people to play their most popular and complete level, not actually bug testing. Highly disappointing from EA, but i've come to expect that from them.

Another gripe I have about the game play is any and all mechanics that attempt to make the user do less action to perform something. For example, leaning around walls by just walking up to them and aiming down sight is awful. It sounds good on paper, making the user not have to hit any extra buttons, but it is a bad idea. Too often you will get into an argument with a wall, hoping to lean out one direction, only to aim down sight and look at the pretty texture at the wall. Other times you will lean the wrong way entirely, making you look like a buffoon. Other times you will be ready to line up a player in your sights, only to put your bipod down on a rock and totally throw off your aim. Or you will try to jump up on top of a ledge to snipe off of, only to have your guy do a 1 hand hurdle all the way off the building forcing you to parachute. If you want to add those ideas into the Xbox or Playstation because those players don't have the buttons to perform separate actions, fine. But don't do it to a pc gamer who has 100 extra buttons he could use to lean, or hurdle, or use a bipod. The attempt to make the game easier for the player just makes it more clunky.

So in conclusion, I gave this game an 8.5. In its current state, I would give it a 7.5, but given that some of the bugs are minor and will be fixed shortly, I feel its fair to give it a rating of 8. If I could, i'd give it an 8.5.

The game will blow you away graphically, and it won't disappoint you in combat either. Aside from the few hiccups, this game is one of the best FPS I've played in a while. The gun mechanics are challenging enough to keep you interested, and the guns you unlock are well worth the effort. Don't let the exaggerated negative comments stop you from experiencing this game.

I'm really surprised how well optimised the game is on AMD hardware. While the beta ran poorly on my PC, the full game runs at a constant 60fps on high settings at 1080p on my budget gaming PC (6300 6-core processor 7850 2GB GFX and 8GB ram).

The multi-player is sheer brilliance, the crazy happenings on 64 player maps make you generally feel like you're on a battlefield and will constantly make you laugh out loud. the sound and feel of the guns are great and the potential to level up looks long winded adding good longevity to the game. A special mention must go to the new game mode obliteration, so much fun!

The levels of destruction, amount of vehicles, changing weather patterns, levolution, all make this a fantastic package....All for a meagre £30!!

Soon as the bugs are ironed out this will be my favourite game of the year next to GTAV.

Multiplayer 4/10 Netcode/lag/crashes/server lag, it's all there. I have played to battle rank 20 with more than 50% crashes. I've forwarded my ports, I've re-installed the firmware on my router, I've downloaded the amd beta drivers, I've repaired the game, I've checked every possible fix out there, and I still crash. It's not fun. When I can play, I find myself being killed around corners, through walls, and never beating anyone 1 on 1 at point blank. The only way to get kills is to flank and kill from behind, and even then when I try to, they wind up figuring out I'm shooting them in the back and one shoting me instantly. It's never taken more than 2 bullets, less than a half a second, to kill me, no matter the distance they shoot from. I can't kill anyone 100+ meters before they kill me, it's just not possible. My accuracy on conquest is under 5%, while on domination (close range sneaking up on people) it's 15%. It might be because I suck, but I'm not the only one.

Single player 6/10 I enjoyed it, but to be honest it wasn't action packed. There were moments in the scripted story that were amazing, and I really loved it, but the actual game-play was terrible. I played on normal, and the ai was pathetic. I enjoyed how they tried to flank me every now and then, but it was like shooting fish in a bucket, completely without a point and felt like a grind to the next action packed story. It was a better movie, even though the story-line wasn't really that comprehensible, than it was a fps.

I'll give it an 8 because I'm nice and I really want updates so I can play this damn thing. In the future, please try to fix all these bugs before release, not everyone is as forgiving as me.

The new feature that excites me the most is levolution. A terrible name for a great addition. All the maps are dynamic, and the pace, location, etc. of a battle can be changed in an instant. There have also been changes in the methods of leveling up to obtain new weapons. A player must level up that weapon type to unlock more in the category, meaning players can no longer cheat their way to the best sniper rifle by using an assault rifle unlocked by another class. Battlefield 4 is a solid entry into the series, rivaling the greatness of Bad Company 2. However, I cannot give the game a perfect score as nothing groundbreaking has been added, also the control of their servers upon release inhibited my ability to enjoy the game on day 1. Expand

The gun mechanic works about the same as MoH as well as the game play. It's very easy to die. But, once you figure out the learning curve it's not so bad and quite enjoyable.
3.) VEHICLES LAVS pretty much die from tanks now. Tanks take 2 to 4 hits before blowing up. Jets have slowed down (easier for kills now). Attack Helicopters feel weird to fly. Mini choppers are very quick and extremely sensitive.
4.) HARDCORE LOVERS There's no hit markers. So, if you kill a teammate, it won't tell you unless the server has been set up to let you know, or you look at who you killed on the top right hand corner. A bunch of new players are playing this mode and haven't figured it out that they can kill their own teammates.. So beware, but other than that very fun.
5.) The game is absolutely beautiful. The maps, the buildings falling, the sun. Everything is beautiful. The maps are very well thought out. They've given snipers a chance in the game, good infantry, and great vehicle play. You get everything.
6.) BUGS YES WE KNOW THERE ARE BUGS. EVERYONE CHILL OUT! Bugs will happen, but hey! They fixed some of the MAJOR bugs, like SERVER CRASHES and GAME CRASHES. SO stop crying about it.
7.) AFTER THE BUGS HAVE BEEN FIXED. It's pretty fun! Plus, I really like the battlepacks.
8.) Customization is pretty dope too.

I had issues with the game just like everyone else. But like I said above, once you've gotten the learning curve down. It's not that bad and pretty fun. Typically, people get angry when they die a lot and then spread hate. There are things not to like and there are things that we like. It's an overall, 7-8 out of 10 in my book. I hope this helps you potential buyers.

Battlefield 4 isn't without its draw backs. As a whole the game is good however the single player aspect of the game is really lacking and far too predictable. Great game with cool map design. At release there was bugs and texture glitches but all those are almost fixed now. Graphics in game are best looking in games to date and sounds are one of the best. Singleplayer is different than in early battlefields but it still is pretty bad. But the collectibles make for bad AI and Unrealistic story. Although this is a game, its a militaryshooter and that's why it should not have unrealistic physics and how in bloody hell will you survive huge drop from a building and get crashed by block of concrete and still breath? I been playing this game for 20h and I'm looking forwards to play some more with my friends after writing this review. Game does have great multiplayer whitch is even better with some friends. Overall the game is great with perfect multiplayer and awful singleplayer. I do recommend this for people that like to play with group of friends and have hours and hours of entertainment. Expand

right off the bat I'm going to say that this game is a hell of a lot of fun, even on your own. there aren't many games where you can go dogfighting in a jet, jump out parachute down, land in a tank and take out a helicopter from 400m away. Game looks amazing. The story was just ok. There a few MAJOR bugs online that need to be addressed immediately.

Other then that, I made the switch from COD to this and I'm not looking back....

Campaign is pretty short but does offer some fun with the new weapons to unlock. Multi-player is vastly more fun than BF3 for me personally anyway I know alot of people will argue that this is just BF3 with new graphics and it pretty much is but there are alot of systems that have been refined.

Only downside is that mutiplayer is very buggy and this needs to be fixed.

This game is an amazing multiplayer. It contains something that I have never seen in say, Call of Duty. Vehicles. You can pilot a helicopter, drive a tank, or fire a missile off of a small ATV. You can pilot a helicopter, drive a tank, or fire a missile off of a small ATV. Saying nothing of the previous games in the franchise, as I have never played any, this seems to be cutting edge. I unfortunately cannot play this on next gen, so graphics will be the normal for Xbox 360. The story line seems to be a little lacking, but it seems to me that a lot of FPS games have that in common. Be wary of the fact that although there is class customization in multiplayer, you cannot edit in the same ways as Call of Duty, and each class levels independently, so if you only play as Assault, your assault weapons and equipment will advance, but if you all of the sudden go and play as Engineer, everything will be level one and have no unlocks. THE BOTTOM LINE:

    Pros: Graphics, Vehicles, Guns, Multiplayer

Cons: Some maps too large for fast paced gameplay, Xbox 360 cannot support more than 24 players, somewhat lacking campaign, other users have reported crashes.

The gameplay has been improved on a micro level, such as how your character interacts with the environment (swimming underwater, two scopes on one gun, character holding gun up higher when walking in water, etc.) and on a macro level with levolution and some nice polish with the upgrade system, Battlelog, etc. My only complain with this game is that it does not look that great visually (outdated 2011 graphics) and it runs worse than BF3 (same hardware will produce worse results on BF4 than BF3, yet the demand is essentially the same). This game would likely look better and run better if it was not produced for consoles as well. I can't complain too much though, as my dual GTX Titans and i7 3930K @4.4GHz has no problem producing over 100FPS on Ultra settings @2560x1440. Expand

First of all, when you read a review, do click on the profile of the reviewer. Be aware of those f**kers who gave every single game they reviewed a 0 or 1, or those haters who gave this game a 0 and cod ghost a 10, and these are the only two games they reviewed. IMO those ppl should be banned forever from reviewing any games and their reviews be removed.

Then it comes to the review. I don't know why there are so many negative reviews, I purchased it when it was on sale 3 weeks ago, what I can say is that even the single player campaign worth the money! (though I have to say the story is ridiculous, and apparently they have no idea on what Chinese government is like today. The story is full of typical western bu**sh** and the story is for China in 70s)

Funny that many ppl were b**ching about the netcode and crashes, b***sh** IMO, It only crashed twice, and the netcode problem only happened 4-5 times for me. Played the game for more than 40 hours. Definitely not like what those haters overly exaggerated about (Or maybe it's the new patches that fixed these problems Idk).

Problems do exist, that's why I gave it an 8.
1, Story is full of typical western bu**sh** abt China like I said. Misleading as hell.
2, Multiplayer unlocks are gone after finishing the single player campaign, come back after several matches tho, but that was very frustrating cuz I thought those unlocks were gone forever.
    3, 75 Ticket bug.
4, Stats won't show up in battle log until, I don't know, 2-3 hours later I guess. A long lag like this is not acceptable.

That being said, this is still an awesome game, not a 10/10 but definitely 8.5/10. Definitely worth ur money I promise you that!

Reading most of the reviews for BF4 PC, I found myself questioning whether I wanted to purchase this game or not. The Black Friday sale made up my mind and I purchased the game premium package for a margin of its original value. I usually find Metacritic reviews to be pretty accurate but in this case they couldn't be further from the truth. BF4 isn't only good its amazing. The Black Friday sale made up my mind and I purchased the game premium package for a margin of its original value. I usually find Metacritic reviews to be pretty accurate but in this case they couldn't be further from the truth. BF4 isn't only good its amazing. The graphics create a beautiful realistic world and the frost 3 engine lets you destroy it. Obviously, I'm speaking of the multiplayer, the campaign is a different "story" if you can call it that.

The largest complaint I can muster is the campaign. It is clear that Dice gave little of the budget to this team of developers. The campaign is so poorly structured that you can go through most of the story not even completely knowing why you doing what your doing. The missions are short and extremely easy. However, The graphics like the multiplayer are awesome. Like every BF game, the sound effects are top notch. Another common point made by some of our home office critics is the buggy multiplayer. For anyone who has been around BF for a while this shouldn't be a surprise. In fact, every single BF ever released has had the same issues. These issues are annoying but are usually fixed in a timely manner. As far as servers are concerned, you can't blame dice for faulty servers. These are publicly made and dice has little control over the quality. Really, its up to use the players to screen the servers before we join. In other words, if the server status is dodgy then maybe you should try a different one.

I know I raved about this game, however I can't see a rating higher then a 8. The campaign is the real buzz kill and Dice should either produce quality or do away with this feature all together. Personally, I'll pay just as much for a multiplayer only.

This is a good game but it has a whole bunch of stuffs they need to fix. Personally, I like the multiplayer gameplay because it makes up for the terrible singleplayer and the graphics are improved, the gameplay is great, and also the scale of the maps are really huge. Its great but not excellent.

As Chinese player, some of us have to use an monthly-paid internet connection booster to play the game. Otherwise the game will lose connection while in Loading Level stage.

    Anyway, the game is great.

Battlefield 4 could just as well be called Battlefield 3.5. The new Battlefield features are only marginal improvements over Battlefield 3, but even as such it leaves the competitors way behind. Hopefully the bugs will be squashed soon. [Nov 2013]

Even if multiplayer wasn't buggy, Battlefield 4 would still only be a barely passable installment in all respects besides the snazzy graphics. EA and DICE played it safe by providing the same thing they did the last time around, with another phoned-in campaign and only minor alterations to the online.

Battlefield 4 keeps soldiering on in the same footsteps as previous games in the series. The lack of worthwhile news makes you wish for more. Dice stays in its comfort zone calls for explosions and not much more. The series needs to evolve or fade out.
