DLCs after DLCs and of course if you don't want to buy them separately, there is premium for you that costs like 60 bucks. 60 bucks. A price of another game. So if you want all out of the game, you have to pay the price of two games. You might wanna consider that before you buy Battlefield 4. Nevertheless, the game is a multiplayer oriented because the story line is **** and short in the campaign. Why did I give this game 9 out of 10 points ? Because when you pay all the additional prices the game is really good. A lot of equipment, guns, vehicles, 4 different classes and big a variety of maps. Expand

Best Battlefield after BF2, sadly they pushed out too much Battlefields and the community split up and now almost noone plays this Game anymore. It was really good. Hopefully they learn out of this Game and stop **** up like bf4 and hardline.

Really fun game with lots of variants. Although the rush mode isn't as fun as Battlefield Bad Company 2. It improves on almost all aspects that BFBC2 was flawed in.

Battlefield 3 remains my most played multiplayer game. It wasn't a perfect game by means and too often DICE broke just as much as they fixed with their patches. The game introduced some new maps that went on to be classics and had great gun and vehicle play.

Battlefield 3 - War against terrorists.

So I played single player and was very surprised by the details and realism of the game. The levels of the game are directly impressive with interesting missions and war details, the game has a very good realism about war and game details. I really enjoyed the game having a very structured communication between the soldiers and the communication center, it was fun to listen to how they communicate, strategic words and characters, the game felt very realistic. The atmosphere of the game is directly impressive with cool details, in each level that atmosphere is very satisfying and cleverly done. The story of the game is very simple and interesting as America war against terrorists and their leaders, and you try to stop the terrorist attacks with your team. Voice - actors did an impressive job, I enjoyed it. The game itself has an amazing event with certain events, I don't want to say. The game has fantastic weapon mechanics, they feel as strong as real weapons. Personally, the game didn’t give that much time to get used to your team’s characters and others.

As for the minus of the game, I played the game on Hard difficulty and noticed a few things that made me nervous that the hardness of the game is very poorly optimized as if the enemies have a very good aim 100%, and I died many times for example: enemy shoot me when I was hiding in spot where you can't shoot through the things as big rock. The game has quite bugs. Some cutscenes face acting look's kinda cringe. And the music in the game didn’t really involve me in the action, there wasn’t much of that music at all, sometimes xD.

So the game is really impressive with a realistic war atmosphere and details, has a few downsides. I would rate this game 9/10. Multiplayer good too!

I'll start by getting the SP out of the way. It's a very mediocre, although aesthetically stunning, experience. The story is average, plagued by awful in-game cut-scenes and QTE that are obviously there to appeal to the console crowd although I doubt they enjoy them either, which results in tedious replays through small sections because the event caught you off guard. The story is average, plagued by awful in-game cut-scenes and QTE that are obviously there to appeal to the console crowd although I doubt they enjoy them either, which results in tedious replays through small sections because the event caught you off guard. If I were lead design and somebody suggested QTE I would fire them on the spot, because they in no way enhance any gaming experience and are simply lazy attempts at getting the gamer to feel like they are interacting - which they obviously wanted to do here because so much of the damn thing is on rails that you don't even really feel like your SP experience has started. When you do get into some on-foot firefights it's simply a matter of enemies popping out every few seconds, kill them, move up, repeat and provides little satisfaction. When it comes to difficulty, you can forget trying to do it on 'hard', unless you want a very drawn out campaign that sees you replaying missions because of poor design rather than lack of skill, with enemies having aimbot skills and the game often telling you to run out into the open to pick up a weapon, follow an ally or get to a location, where the open results in instant death. The plot is fairly cliched although the acting is very good, and the visuals are the best in a game to date, however they can't save the rest of the single player campaign from being very 'meh'. Now for the multiplayer; it can be exciting, fast paced and feel polished. On the other hand it can also be an infuriating, frustrating and tedious experience. The hitboxes are poor, the netcode is a joke and weapon damage feels so inconsistant at times you could be forgiven for thinking you were playing halo with enemies taking 6-7-8 rounds. You could change to hardcore but then the inevitable rocket spam becomes even worse, camping becomes standard, and you're punished for pushing the objective. The spawn system is also dire with you spawning in front of enemies, enemies spawning behind you, or spawning in line of enemy fire, and this can happen several times in a row. In fact I would say the majority of my deaths in this game are down to enemies spawning either directly behind me, or in an area that I cleared only seconds ago. Maps are cramped for 64 players and switching to 32 player matches gives a more tactical game but then the maps feel empty and unlike a battlefield game, so the sweet spot is probably about 48 but at the end of the day it's that 64 player experience that players want and on maps that are suited to it. There are some weapons and gadgets that leave you questioning the devs logic at including them such as the IRNV scope which feels like a hack and every player will no doubt be using after another month or so, the mortar which sees players sitting in their base with unlimited mortar shells for entire rounds firing on choke points, and engineers that can somehow cram 10 rpg rounds up their anus (this is the only place I can think they must be hiding them). Vehicle combat works very well, although air vehicles can be tricky to control at first, once you get used to them a good pilot can dominate land and air which some players object to, but I think is fine considering how easily a few players co-ordinating an attack can easily take down aircraft. Some maps are fantastic whilst others are poor with chokepoints and rocket spam being the tactic of the day. Players will quickly decide on which maps they like/dislike, however I've found most players tend to agree on which are good and bad. The classes all have a reasonably balanced degree of usefulness, recons perhaps less so unless in an organised squad/team. You will find yourself raging at times when other players incompetence/disregard for teamwork raises its head (which is often), driving off leaving you on-foot running behind their vehicle trying to get in (and other similar situations such as not repairing/reviving/dropping kits), but this is a problem with players and not the game. The sound is fantastic, whether it's weapons, vehicles or explosions, it really is top notch and adds to the immersion both in SP and MP, so cudos to DICE there. Despite its flaws it is enjoyable overall and although it doesn't feel like it will have the longevity of other classic shooters, it should still provide a good multiplayer fps experience for a fair amount of time. Hopfully the back to karkand release should ensure that Expand

It just feels like you are doing the same thing as the last level, just advancing towards a goal doing nothing too entertaining along the way and killing enemies blocking you. More than anything campaign just seems to be training for multiplayer.

Multiplayer, while it has some cool maps, it isn't as fun as the beta was for some reason. Still, it is fairly entertaining.

Teamate AI is useless, providing zero support or cover for you and at times won't even bother to return fire on enemies and rarely hitting anything when they do, enemies however are much more adept at target aquisition bordering on the realm of precognitive. +runs very well
+physics on the jeep +driving is fun
+the game overall is the best shooter since battlefield 2
+actually uses pc hardware especially vram
-battlelog is **** no way to communicate with friends who just logged in while you are in a game
-jet physics and heli physics are a far cry from the brilliance of the desert combat mod physics, it's better than in awful games like bf:vietnam or bad company, but it's not on par. At least you have full control, it's just too arcady and momentum barely applies.
Plane and heli physics are a big deal in battlefield that is why I mention them.
-A few of the guns have virtually no recoil, meaning noone uses the guns that actually have a learning curve to them -metro is unplayable because of rpg, grenade and most of all grenade launcher spam and the endless ammo you have for them as long as you stand next to any ammo pack...
-some broken mechanics like the supernova flashlight, infrared vision scope and silly mortars
    -only 4 classes
    -broken vehicle perks that stack
-netcode is still **** compared to proper shooters like cs , quake and UT99, at least it's better than the abomination called bad company 2
-the minimap sucks, they nailed it in the previous games I don't know why they made it so painful to read now
-they forced the modern warfare style carrot on a stick of filling bars on players, why can't it just be like bf1942 where you get your guns and the sandbox nature of the game is fun enough to last you for 3 years without needing a carrot!! -no mod tools, shame on you dice you greedy ****
-destruction is really lame, they talked it up and it turned out to be a dud. Just scripted where you shoot one of the hitboxes of an object till it runs out of hp after which part of it or all of it crumbles.
I guess their netcode is to blame for this, with proper physics based destruction it would soil itself most likely.

This looks like a huge list of negatives, but other than a few major ones (no mod tools, dissapointing physics and netcode, and only 4 classes / no commander) which bring the score down for me, the others can be (and most likely will be) fixed by a simple patch.

There are hundreds of hours of gameplay and learning curve packed into this game, it looks , sounds, feels and plays well so it's worth getting.
It's just a shame that they dumbed it down here and there and tried to market it to the retarded cod demographic, while the two games have nothing in common other than that there are guns in them.

A lot of people are really hating on this game, and I can sort of see why. The single-player is basically another "shoot-shoot-shoot-cover-tank setpiece-shoot" game, sort of like Call of Duty. However, what it lacks in innovation it makes up for with fun gunplay and very tactical gameplay. The multiplayer, on the other hand, is what makes the game for some and breaks for others.
To start, the games battlelog.com client is just ridiculous. It's like a main menu, but in your web browser and thus absolutely pointless. It's great that it controls the entirety of BF3, which is something I hated about the new Call of Duty games (having to launch a different player for multiplayer) but when you have to "launch" your web browser from Origin and then launch the game from your browser, it gets really dumb really fast.
Also, in the multiplayer is a very steep learning curve. You'll find yourself getting very few kills and many deaths for the first few games you play, getting shot instead by people you can't see or getting blown up by missiles because you have no IR Flares.
Once you get past this curve, though, you'll find a very deep and extremely fun tactical shooter. PC players have an advantage over console players in that the warzones can be up to double the size of console games, and of course a filtered server browser. Managing bullet drop with sniper rifles is easy to learn but very hard to master, and mechanics such as flying jets or helicopters have similar skill requirements (If you expect air vehicles to go forward with W, you are sadly mistaken, friend).
In short, if you are the type of person who enjoys a lot of simple, frantic gunfights and being a one-man army, then Battlefield 3 is the wrong game for you. But if you can put time into the game, you'll find a multiplayer experience pretty much incomparable to Call of Duty.

Últimamente todo los shooters pecan de tener un modo campaña muy corto y potenciar mucho más el multijugador, algo que aunque está bien, hace que a veces se nos haga muy caro pagar un juego con una modo solo jugador tan corto.

Most of the time the game sends me to my death, until I realize, after dying multiple times, what I'm actually supposed to do.

However the core game has not been truly evolved. In this specific case, I don't mind that much. I played on High graphics, and when you saw the graphics from a distance, the game looked fantastic. Of course, the closer you got to graphics, it didn't look as wonderful as you may have thought. Frostbite 2 is great but with it's flaws. Some of the textures disappear right in front of your eyes, characters walk through walls, and I can't believe there's no splash when you walk on water. Literally, the characters look like Jesus just walking on water without a splash. Frostbite 2 is great, but buggy. The SP is rather short. I begun at like 1pm and finished at 9pm the same day (of course I spent 2 hours doing other stuff, so the SP took me about 6 hours). The SP also seemed to have no point to it, as all it had you doing was chasing around meaninglessly for something.

The MP is a lot more fun than Medal of Honors was, but still not perfect. There's only 8 or so maps, which to be honest, a multiplayer game should ship with at least 12 (I know the DLC is coming out soon but that isnt the point). I won't talk about the MP much here but it's decent enough.

    - Battlelog is a particularly good server browser for the game.

    CONS:
    - People who don't have multiple monitors might find Battlelog to be cumbersome.
    - Sloppy blue-glowing UI design that is hard to read and makes very poor use of available screen space.
    - Chat window is idiotically placed in the right-center of the display, overlaps a considerable portion of the view, doesn't scale with resolution.
    - No in-game VOIP.
    - Horrible mouse control for jets. After you move the mouse the jet's control surfaces auto-center, which makes maneuvering erratic at best.
    - Only basic joystick support. You can't set joystick control rates or individual sensitivities for different vehicles.
    - Game configuration can only be accessed while you're spawned in a live match.
    - No ability to save kits.
    - Poor overall map design. Conquest maps feel much smaller than BF2 maps and flags are spaced closer together. Battles feel less "epic" than BF2, overall.
    - The command rose is utterly useless in its current form. It takes a second for it to pop up, and then it's impossible to see which item you have selected.

I could go on with the cons, but I think I'll stop there. BF3 is a great game in its own right, but it's not really what I consider to be a true successor to BF2. It's more like a hybrid of BC2 and BF2 with smaller-feeling maps, smaller-feeling battles, less epic-ness, and very little feeling that you're playing in a "sandbox" environment. There's not as much stuff in BF3 to have fun with as there was in BF2 and, to a certain extent, BC2 as well. DICE has whittled the Battlefield experience down to the husk, leaving only a few kernels of hope that it could one day grow into the game BF2 veterans really wanted. The "Back To Karkand" expansion may make or break this game for a lot of veteran players.

The multiplayer is a blast. They've taken the best of the Call of Duty franchise, and the best of the Battlefield franchise and mixed it together to create a perfect game. The sounds are rich, the graphics are crisp, the maps are fun to play whether you take your Assault Rifle or hop into a jet. With a bit of bugfixing and balancing, this could easily be one of the greatest FPS games I've ever played.

That being said, I didn't buy the game for the singleplayer. I don't usually play singleplayer games. The multiplayer is nothing short of amazing. Tons of vehicles, tons of guns, and at least 5 great maps. The other 4 maps range from terrible to "eh" in most situations I've encountered, but that's not the worst thing about this game. Now, how does this game actually look? The graphics are above and beyond what most games could even dream of achieving. It's the best looking game I think I've ever seen. I run the game on a High/Ultra combination of settings, and I get a fairly steady 60 fps. It's a pretty nice experience. But... this game can't receive a 10/10 for multiplayer alone. The singleplayer knocks it down a point, and the HORRIBLE GAME BREAKING BUGS that occur every now and then remove another point. Once they fix the game, it'll be a much more solid 9/10 experience, but until then the game must sit on an 8. It's a rewarding experience worth picking up. The battlelog system is nice once you get over your fears of internet browsers, and origin... well I forget it's even installed most of the time. Expand

The fact is it's neither, it's definitely not the best game ever with a singleplayer that's boring and forgettable after the first few missions (but then again, I was more itching to play multiplayer) and even the multiplayer had a few hiccups on day one with the occasional rubberband lag popping up here and there. However to say this game is so bad it deserved a ZERO, you either have to hate first person shooters or be a complete CoD fanboy. This is why user ratings are becoming useless especially since those 0 scores only encouraging Battlefield fanboys to instantly put a 10 to "balance" the score out. //////////////// As for my score of 8, I took a point away because the singleplayer was weak and the online multiplayer despite a alpha, beta, and launches in the past with the same rubberband lag still had issues on day one. Another point was lost because the destruction actually feels a step back from Bad Company 2 and overall this game actually feels more like a sequel to that game instead of a a true sequel to Battlefield 2. The only thing I don't like about BF3 is its association with the battlelog, and Origin in general. The battlelog is a completely uneccessary facebook-like application the PC version is run from and I'm hoping there will eventually be a way to bypass it entirely. *edited to add* Most of the multiplayer bugs I've encountered *seem* to have been fixed; no server disconnects or unexplained score losses all weekend, so I've returned my score to an 8. Nothing ships perfectly anymore, so why expect it to? So far DICE have done a good job of addressing issues, so they don't bother me. I'm going to be up front about this: if you are going to play this on the PC, be prepared for headaches. Your experience may range from flawless to unplayable but I can almost certainly guarantee that you will encounter hiccups from time to time. However, if you are willing to go through the trouble of installing, configuring, and playing BF3, it will be worth your time. Just be prepared to do a bit of googling to help if you get stuck. I am only going to write about the multiplayer experience, as I consider that to be the meat-and-potatoes of any BF game.

The game itself is simply beautiful. I run it on high settings on medium-grade hardware at 1920x1080 at around 30-40fps. The gameplay should be familiar to anyone who has played a BF title before, with one noteworthy (and welcome, imho) exception: sprinting is now free, as in you can do it indefinitely. (It can be augmented with upgrades as well.)

EA's Origin and Battlelog (the web front-end) are getting a lot of flak, but personally, I have grown to really like the web interface. Battlelog allows you to really drill down into your stats and gives really easy access to item descriptions all in one, convenient place. The friends/"platoon"/party system could use an overhaul, and the lack of in-game VOIP is simply ridiculous, but these aren't game-breakers imho. I really like the ability to see what a server is doing before I commit to joining as well.

A few things I am waiting for DICE to address:
-Mouse resolution is non-adjustable (the slider does nothing!) and is wonky depending on how fast you move your mouse around
-The commo-rose is extremely slow to open
    -In-game VOIP--I mean, come on!
-Error messages that actually help--there is one that frequently pops up asking me if my game is up to date, and I can't tell because:
-Origin's "check for updates" and "repair install" features are broken

One last thing I should mention: if you are just starting out in BF3 Multiplayer, you are going to get slaughtered. A lot. This should not discourage you; a few days of solid play time should net you enough ranks to get some good weapon and player upgrades. Just keep at it, and the game becomes more and more rewarding.

Pros: Beautiful graphics, great sound, nice variety of weapons and maps, detailed stat-tracking
Cons: No in-game VOIP, front-end bugs, minor game glitches (the mouse thing)

The developers seem to be in contact with the community more that any other BF title to date, and the feedback system seems to be working thus far, so hopefully these wrinkles will get ironed out. By doing so, DICE stand only to make a great game even better. I'd recommend this game to my friends. Cheers~

While destroying a tank, chopper, or jet won't always render you a kill, it's also nice that the pilot of the vehicle has a chance to escape before death.
The graphics are amazing even in multiplayer(where the bad company series seemed to have dumbed itself down a bit). The explosions are almost realistic and the destruction of buildings is almost jaw dropping to watch, yet feel a bit limited compared to the destruction in bad company series, in that it's much harder to blow a wall out. That said, it's also a bit more realistic in that aspect. The bullet drop and having to lead targets makes the combat aspects of the game more enjoyable for players like me that understand you're not gonna shoot the guy running across your screen half the map away in the head if you try shooting where he is instead of where he'll be. My issues with the game fall under seperate aspects. The coop. is weak at best, and the campaign feels a bit cod'esk in it's linear playstyle, yet it's still less linear than cod, but more so than the bad company series, still, having a campaign at all in a series that with 1942, vietnam, bf2, and 2142 never had a campaign, it's nice to see they put themselves in that realm and did so in a way to make them a strong competetor against the fps giant that is the cod series.
With multiplayer my issues aren't with graphics, physics, or anything like that, but fall more in line with the guns and sites themselves. For instance a sniper will have to compete with bullet drop, where as a player with an assault rifle, shotgun with slugs, smg, or lmg seem to have much less issues with bullet drop. The sniper must aim above you to hit you at a certain distance, yet that guy with the saw can aim staight at you from the same distance and still hit you. it's almost rediculous how accurate weapons like saws and 240s are yet weapons like m4s and m16s are less accurate, which in my experience is just the opposite, bipod or not. Then you come into sites such as the unlocked site for each weapon which is labelled as a night vision sight, yet gives you the view of a thermal site, but yet is still blinded by flashlights and laser pointers the way and actual night vision site would be. It's a bit confusing. Perhaps one of the patches that dice releases should fix the bullet drop of non-snip weapons to be realistic, and perhaps they should give night vision sites the green hue of actual night vision and perhaps add thermal as another site that isnt' blinded by lights and lasers. Oh, and what's up with being blinded by flash lights in broad day light, while standing out in the sun??? Anyone else catch that??
Overall though, battlefield 3 is quite an enjoyable game besides the campaign and coop. As a matter of fact, I can't bring myself to keep playing the same old boring coop rounds over and over again in order to unlock all those weapons. The only one of them that really seems worth it anyway was the rex.
Apart from that, I've already pulled several hours out of the game, and still have yet to make a dent in the amount of weapons, gadgets, perks, and vehicle unlocks their are in this game.
So i'm knocking off half a point for each of the issues that I have with it. -0.5 for bullet drop on non-snip weapons(not realistic), -0.5 for sites and accuracy of weapons(not realistic), -0.5 for a short campaign(though it's suprising to me for a battlefield to even have a campaign), -0.5 for the weak at best coop.
    Overall 8.
I enjoy it quite a bit, and with the back to karkand map pack we're not only getting 4 new maps, but 3 new vehicles(probably tied specifically to these maps), and 10 new weapons. Lets just hope they bring back the sip line from the battlefield 2 expansion. That would put a whole new twist on a game like this.

Why they felt the need to add a SP campaign, who knows. The Co-op campaigns are a great idea however. Origin is a bit buggy but the battlelog is a good idea and useful when comparing yourself with other player stats and organising party plays.
I have great memories from bf1942 (desert combat mod) and bf Vietnam, too early to tell if bf3 will bestow such good times. It's a lot of fun!

However, I do have some grievances which brings my rating down to an 8. While infantry combat is a step up in the Battlefield series, that doesn't say very much, considering the hit registry for every battlefield game has been rather atrocious. BF3 is the first one to do it mildly better, but even still there are many issues. Up close infantry fighting, I often feel like the game utilizes hitscan registry, and I receive a kill message from the server before I see the death animation of the player. It's a very odd scenario. The map design is the biggest fault of this game. It feels linear and messy, not much thought process went into these maps. The destruction was scaled back, which leads me to believe that they rushed this one out the door and hoped to finish it up later. B2K already features advanced destruction compared to the vanilla BF3 maps, and is being released only a couple of weeks from now. This makes me think EA forced DICE to release the game early to steal some of the MW sales. Beyond that it's a fine game, the campaign is forgettable, but the graphics make it stand out. Expand

The singleplayer is noticeably underwhelming, but BF games are multiplayer at heart. BF3 does push your pc, which is something that i like, as it's time to push forward and unlock what pcs can achieve and not take people with old hardware along with the ride, or gaming won't evolve. Possibly with patches, more destruction in maps and a few other tweaks, BF3 would be a true brutal force in the fps genre. I still like BF2 over BF3 however, but i'm happy with the vision dice were trying to put together. Time will make it a better game. Expand

I loved the feature because it gave a chance to practice how to play right inside each maps. I think people shouldn't batter BF3 because of the story, because they are starting to develop one for the first time. Sure, Call of Duty 1 and other great FPS's had great singleplayers at the start, but Battlefield is starting late so cut them some slack, okay? The multiplayer was great, it was really fun. The vehicles are as OP and lovable as ever. The unlock system is the same from Battlefield Bad Company 2. The attraction, though, is the humongous 64 player servers, which provide a vast area to cooperate and assault together. The game did a good job of making some people do their roles, because without Assault being a Medic, a team can be decimated real quick. I feel this game had more elements to Bad Company 2, I'm not saying it's bad, but I wished it would have focused on more Battlefield 2 aspects, such as Commanders. Commanders were the biggest part of teamwork inside Battlefield 2. Without a good commander, the other commander can decimate the team quickly. I was surprised there was no UAV, no Artillery, no Supply Drops, zip. Instead, each soldier had to do their jobs. I was REALLY disappointed commanders were left out, along with most of the kits that were diverse. There were good people in the community, though, who worked really hard to achieve victory. I was disappointed too that you couldn't choose your unlock like Battlefield 2. I liked the rank system becoming harder to achieve, like Battlefield 2, but people had to focus on one class alone to unlock certain classes. I wish they bring Commanders back in Strike at Karkand DLC's.

    If there can be improvements:
Go to what Battlefield 2 done right a little! Add commanders, an optional unlock system, and some classes! (I really wanted Anti-Tank and Engineer to be separate).

The campaign plot is not so good but the Multiplayer section is definitely awesome. But I think EA can build a training scene for noobs so they know how to use those jet fighters and vehicles instead of wasting those tactical advantages like crap. Frostbite 2 - Huge leap on the graphics effects. EA finally ditched Windows XP/DirectX 9 support, I'd say this is very brave and great act.

But, it lacks originality with cliches from war movies and scenes and dialogue you could hear and see in any military film. After the singleplayer, comes MULTIPLAYER. It is hella' good, fluid controls, and quick fighting. The maps are all diverse from the narrow alleyways of the Grand Bazaar, to the open plains of Caspian Border. BUT, there are 2 downsides to the Multiplayer, 1) Aircraft Controls, the controls feel awkward (on the PC at least). They feel like there is 2 things you can do and are not very fluid. And 2) Maps (Compared to BFBC2), The maps are something that could've been done slightly better. Fortunately the game is not just the campaign mode, multiplayer is the reason of buying this game, this is one aspect of the game that will last months, as in previous battlefields all four classes have, assault (now a doctor) engineer (able to repair vehicles) support (provides bullets) and recognition (known as sniper) those with some differences but nothing that makes a better class than another, we also have vehicles in multiplayer mode, light cars (jepps) the tanks, through helicopters and jets, the game comes with 9 huge maps that can be played in all game modes, team deathmach, rush and conquest, with the maximum of 64 players per map.
If you want a game where you can play as a team then BF3 is the right purchase.

graphically frostbite2 does a great job, probably the best graphics yet managed. as the gameplay is much more fluid than the bad company 2 and with a little touch of COD.

there is no game if we have no sound, and the sound is phenomenal, the feeling of hearing a rocket to bypass our ears is brutal.

To finish we have the co-op mode that adds even more weapons to the multiplayer mode, basically the game loses in singleplayer, but probably BF players will not feel surprised by the lack of campaign mode.

This alone should get it 5 points, as it's main competitor in the FPS market does just that; so striving to be different and create innovation in the way of a new gaming engine defines it higher up the ladder than its main competitor by default.

Now I know this game has never been sold on its singleplayer component, and you can tell this whilst playing the restricted single player that comes with the game. It feels like the designers threw it in there to satisfy those who would complain if it wasn't there, not to win awards with amazing single player story arc design or plot progression. Sure it has big set-pieces ala CoD and amazing vistas and beautiful graphics, but its things like the extremely un-needed quicktime sequences thrown in at every corner that really made me cringe whilst playing the campaign. I bought this knowing it was multiplayer based beforehand, and bought it as a multiplayer game, but all the same, this is a reason why I can't give it a 10, it's not quite the perfect package... quite.

The core part of the package then... the multiplayer. With an unlock system close to the BF's of old, with a few extras thrown in, the unlock system will keep you playing for hours more than you intended too. No stupid kill-streak bonuses here, just hard work to get fair rewards. With unlocks for each type of vehicle, weapon and class there is plenty to unlock, along with the visual additions gained (new camo etc) by the core account levelling process that slowly levels up by collating all points gained as you play - there really is a lot of stuff here to add to the already awesome multiplayer experience.

The battlefields range from the hugely wide open area of "Caspian Border" to the confined train station setting within "Metro", each level adds something different and requires different approaches from a tactical standpoint, making each game you play guaranteed to be different. The vehicles add the feel of warfare across all maps that have them, and can be extremely deadly in the right hands.

That's the thing with this game, nothing really feels unfair or unbalanced. Sure if you're getting owned by an attack helicopter, jump in an AA gun and go blow him/her out of the sky, or get working on flying your own Helicopter to better him/her. At first you may fail, but after a bit of work you will be the one people will be clambering into AA's to take down, or grabbing anti tank gear to take you out due to the immense destruction you are causing. And the good thing is, when you do get taken out, it's normally because you missed something or didn't react quick enough, not because some dude was in an AC130 dominating you with no chance to respond. With the different game modes like Conquest, Rush, Team Deathmatch and Squad Rush the multiplayer really is a big beast to bite into, and has something for every fps player. Along with the fun, but short, co-op, this game really is worth the price its asking for.

If it only wasn't for Origin I may have given it a 9...

The only bad parts with the multiplayer is the tactical flashlight, spawn system, and expecting gamers to play as a team. the tactical flashlight doesn't just blind your opponent/team mate, it makes it so that you can't see ANYTHING on your screen whatsoever. the laser sight is fine, it doesn't really give me a problem. I have found myself either spawning right in front of an enemy, or in one case i had, behind 3 enemies trying to flank a flag. Also, it's great that you need to use team work to win, it definately adds a great feel of camaraderie to the game, but DICE expected EVERYONE to play as a team. just today i spawned at my deployment on firestorm. I saw someone climb into the attack helicopter so i ran to be his gunner, he took off with his gunner seat still empty. i then turned to our transport helicopter...same thing. the guy jumped in and took off, even with me shooting the helicopter to get him to stay.

So yes, it does have some problems but i think the pros far outweigh the cons in this game.

Battlelog, for one, is probably one of the worst design decisions they could have made. I would have much preferred an in-game server browser. Not to mention the only place you can make changes to your personal and graphical settings is in the game itself. The forced kill cams don't help this either. The campaign isn't the best, and in all honesty I much prefer a Call of Duty campaign, while I do dislike Call of Duty's multiplayer. That's about it for the negatives though. The game itself looks amazing, much more so than expected. A rewarding system for performing squad/team actions also helps set this game apart from other FPS games. The sound effects are also awesome. All the guns sound great, especially when a bullet just misses you. The selection of guns is great, and the leveling system is well designed. This game is well worth the $60, and I'm sure it will keep me busy for a very long time, at least when I'm not playing Skyrim. As long as they don't go the Call of Duty way and make Battlefield 4 next year, of course.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I will start off with the single player and move onto the multi player.
The story is very standard. The main bad guys are quite generic and the locations are, for the most part, uninspired. The gun play is quite good, you need to use some tactics if you are to survive and there are a few scripted sequences which liven things up a little. I have a few problems with the mission design because some missions seemed like they were ripped right out of other games. The most obvious of these "borrowed" missions, as I will call them, is one called 'Night Shift'. In said mission, you start off as a marksman who must first make his way through a city, following orders from a senior so that you don't get caught by enemy patrols, to a vantage point which you provide covering fire from. This mission, to me at least, felt just like I was playing the mission "All Ghillied Up" from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The similarity only got stronger towards the end of the mission, where you back yourself into a corner, lay claymore mines all around yourself and then have to protect a wounded ally from enemy fire. After a certain amount of time, you then have to run out, through enemy fire, to your extraction helicopter which is waiting outside. This is almost an exact replica of the mission which directly succeeds "All Ghillied Up", which is called "One Shot, One Kill". However, Night Shift is a very good level and I had a lot of fun playing it, so this likeliness serves more as an annoyance to me than a game stopper. I think where the single player shined for me was the protagonists that you play throughout the game. There are I think four in total, two of which only appear for a single mission each. These protagonists have very cleverly designed and incredibly immersive vehicle missions. One a mission where you are in a Jet Aircraft and one a where you take the machine gun and main gun in an M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tank. These missions are defiantly the most memorable and, in my opinion, the most fun. The other two protagonists are an American and a Russian, I will not go into their missions specifically, but I will say that the use of the Russian protagonist to make, what I thought was, a subtle and incredibly relevant comment on the readiness of American security services to blame the Russians for a travesty that they did not commit. I enjoyed the Russian protagonist's missions immensely, not just for this reason, but also because they had the most variety and most interesting locations.

The campaign is good, not great, so how does the multi player, arguably the pillar of the Battlefield franchise, stand up to the test?

Disappointingly. It is not bad by any stretch of the imagination, I have poured hours into this multi player, including the beta, and I intend to continue doing so. Now I have not played Battlefield 2 so I make a massive assumption in saying that Battlefield 3 multi player feels more like the most recent Medal of Honour than it does a proper Battlefield game. Now I love both Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Medal of Honour, so either way, I enjoy the multi player. I was, however, hoping for more intense, explosion ridden, cover debris covered, team focused multi player. This, unfortunately, is not the case. There are hardly any opportunities to show off Frostbite 2's lovely destruction physics and the game seems more focused on run-and-gun game play. This is a shame as I was hoping for an experience more like that of Bad Company 2. Now that I have had my little rant, I can tell you that the multi player for Battlefield 3 is outstanding. The intensity is still there, something I feel Medal of Honour lacked, the team play, while not as focused as before, is still there and still rewarding you for helping your team by providing them with ammo or health, reviving them or providing a forward spawn point for them etcetera.

In conclusion, I love this game, I think it was well worth my time and money and I can almost guarantee it will be worth yours as well. I do not think the games flaws, of which, admittedly, there are many, get in the way of the fun at all. I give the game a hearty eight and eagerly await DICE's next instalment.

Beautiful update to the BF series, but there are problems to be fixed.
Some of the inital maps are excellent, but many feel too bottlenecked, and closed in. The addition of a few extra expansive maps such as Harvest Day and Heavy Metal would be appreciated.
Weapon selection is excellent, and it's nice to see EA make sniping more challenging again. Once glitches are fixed and new maps come

Very good game, however it's currently riddled with bugs, and the initial activation on launch day was a nightmare. Hopefully the bugs are sorted in a patch soon, but other than that the game is very good.

    Pretty good game.
The graphics are amazing and the environments are beautiful. (I love the destruction engine)
The campaign is pretty cliched but it's still pretty fun.
Multiplayer is good but even after a couple server upgrades it's hard find a open game and there is a lot of lagging.

Not a masterpiece, and some parts are better than others. But all in all it is a great game! The singleplayer is shot and disappointing at times, but the multiplayer is where it is at!

Battlefield 3 does so many things right for the FPS genre. Large, 64 player maps? Check. Vehicular warfare? Check. Encourages teamwork? Check. Beautifully stunning graphics? Double check. DICE really pushed the envelope in developing the game and you can tell that this game has the blood, sweat, and tears of many people in their studio. While it may not be the genre defining title, I think Battlefield could definitely snatch the crown in it's next iteration if EA and DICE keep at it with the same ferocity. Despite how wonderful the game is overall, there are two big, glaring tarnishes on it. The first is campaign. I mean seriously, did no one at DICE say "Hey, campaign really sucks. How can we make it better?". Besides the story not making too much sense (and taking a huge turn out to left field at the end) there's still a couple of annoying glitches that persist from BC2, the most annoying being that enemy AI focus the majority of their fire on you and they see you from just about everywhere. What's the point of hiding behind a bush, or in a cloud of smoke when the enemy somehow knows you're there and will proceed to fill your digital body with lead. The second tarnish is the in-browser game launching system Battlelog. I appreciate the attempt at ingenuity and attempting something new, but it just doesn't feel right. I can't even change my in-game setting unless I'm actually in a game ("hey, can you guys not kill me 'til I fix my key bindings?") I hope they learn from this and just keep the game in the game next time around. Expand

The game promotes team play, something a similar game seems to stear away from. The single player is really with I'm only giving it an 8, it's there but it short and sweet. The multiplayer is really what this game was made for, and unfortunetly it's noticeable in the single player campaign. The MP has unlocks and "kits" that help you keep playing with goals and customization

Amazing graphics and gameplay. I love the fact they make Co-op accessible by offering gun unlocks in multiplayer. Would have liked to had microphone contact with random co-op partners though. The single player was excellent and the multiplayer is even better. I'm new to the Battlefield series. To me this game would be a 10 if it supported as much players as the game MAG for PS3 or at least as much players on consoles as it does on PC.

It needs more game modes with smaller maps.

I'm liking it so far and will buy the "Going Back To Karkand" DLC.

It's all a matter of taste, after all. They each provide a certain type of entertainment – when talking about Battlefield 3, it involves a bigger game, more open in its possibilities and more spectacular. But on a longer timeline, less frantic and with fewer Bruce Willis scenes than the mass appeal beast it set itself to dethrone.

No, Battlefield 3 is not the best game of today. But good looking – definitely. It also has an absolutely addictive multiplayer. Who needs more? [Dec 2011]

Both a triumphant leap forward and a return to form for the Battlefield series. This is the best multiplayer shooter on PC. [Christmas 2011, p.58]
