So you might ask why only a 3 then? Well the multiplayer is infested with cheaters, damage boosts, aim bot, instant claim points, ESP, et al. EA seems to be unwilling to do anything about them, so this is my last Battlefield. For a game that banks on it's multi player experience it's almost at CS levels of hackery :(

Easily my favorite game this year aside from the "Witcher 3: Blood and Wine" expansion, Battlefield 1 just does everything right in my books (but of course with some mistakes on the side).

First of all, the campaign is above average for a Battlefield game.

Despite its level styles being clearly inspired from other popular games (the Aerial levels inspired by Star Fox, the Desert stealthy levels similar to Metal Gear) and its "Rambo" style campaign, DICE does an incredible job at making each and every level different and refreshing. Surprisingly the stories for each of the campaigns are fairly well-done, yet I would have preferred it if they had made it twice (or even three-times) as long.

Of course, the best part of the Battlefield experience is its legendary multiplayer!

Compared to the past Battlefield games, this game is very well balanced. Every gun and class has its advantages and disadvantages, diversity of classes and teamwork is essential to winning every game, and the balance between both teams is always kept in check.

One of the things I loved that they improved upon is that they changed the Recon Class' sniper damage to only be a one-shot-kill on a headshot. In past Battlefield games Recons were infamous for camping all over the map and slaying enemies from far away with a single shot.

While it did require skill to get kills as a Recon, a single sniper camping in one spot should not be as effective when Battlefield is supposed to be about teamwork and getting up-close and personal. Thankfully in Battlefield 1 they changed the Sniper class so that it takes two shots to kill a target, but only one in the head to kill.

Another thing they balanced is the powerful weapon spawns throughout the map. Not only are there less and only located in the actual control points themselves, they made sure that people who obtain these powerful weapons cannot drop them and cannot heal. Again, in Battlefield 1 DICE does an incredible job at keeping everything balanced while awarding teams and individuals who are of higher skill at the same time.

In conclusion, Battlefield 1 shattered my negative expectations of this game! With is above average campaign and incredibly well-done multiplayer, Battlefield 1 is a must-buy for FPS and World War fans everywhere!

Decent and enjoyable shooter, even now. Good single player stories. At least half of maps are pretty balanced and playable, and beautiful of course. Tanks and planes aren't OP. No SJW contents and way better than BF V and even BF4. Speed of the game is acceptable for most players. But cheaters, unbalanced teams and remaining maps, which is not playable make this game average and awful sometimes.

The singleplayer campaign could've been longer. The first mission set-up high hopes for the campaign, but it falls short. It's still the best campaign that DICE has every pulled off, yet The stages for each area are unbalanced. You get: 4 sections for tank, 4 sections for air, 2 for heavy armor, 3 for runner, and 3 for middle east. The voice acting, the story, and the variety they give us is good, but there could've been more.

As for the multiplayer, it is great for the most part. The squad-based mechanic really gives a nice sense of teamwork and coordinations. The vehicles look, control, and feel like their actual WWI counter parts. As for the guns, there are way too many automatic weapons for it to be an realistic WWI game. The gamemodes are really great, especially operation. Operation gives you the true sense of struggle for control over lands during WWI.

The fact that this crap game decides to give entire chapters based on vehicles, is just awful. The planes chapter was by far the worst, boring all the way, shooting planes that will keep flying despite being in flames, and just overall too easy and boring, no challenge to be had. I hate those cutscenes, cheesy and boring characters with no charisma whatsoever, and that brit accent is driving me nuts. The controls are terrible, and poorly optimized for pc, and it's sad to know that because BF 1942 was the first game of the series and started on PC. This game is an insult to the classics, having no music in the menu, which is already awful and too complex. The UI is atrocious, very small words and icons, I can barely see them. Also the only way to see the objectives is by pausing the game... lol. Shame on you DICE for bringing this crap and insulting the old BF games legacy, sadly there are hardly any other WWI games, so we gotta play this **** if we wanna play something WWI related. The graphics are great and the sound effects are decent. But the controls ruin the experience. Also the cutscenes are way too frequent and annoying, I tought I was playing a game not watching a boring movie. I will go a head and give this crap an extra point just for trying to be a decent WWI game.
The game is so unrealistic and anachronic, most of the weapons shown in the game didn't even existed in 1917 or 1918. Planes were not capable of such maneuvers, and the part where the soldier takes photos with a 100+ yrs old camera, and the pictures are perfect, not even moved xD. That was impossible to do with a camera that had no eye stabilizer. Same applies to tanks and other guns, there was only 1 portable machine gun, and the game has like 10 lol. Not only unrealistic and anachronic but also pretty poor representation of WWI, the characters act like they are in a circus or out in a nightclub, really pathetic, I hate their egos so much. The scenes looks like they are from a movie instead of trying to represent the WWI as best as possible (laughable). I was liking this game until the planes chapter... omg... it's so bad it's laughable, the flying mechanics are a disaster, makes the game nearly unplayable, add that the cheesy voice acting with characters that act like war is a joke, and you have a combo for poor quality, way to handicap players Dice, with **** controls. First of all, I don't like planes, so why the **** they force me to play an entire chapter flying a crap plane with awful aiming controls while the stupid character won't shut up, yeah that stupid that thinks he is a winner for being in a fake war... pathetic, I hope people wasn't like that back in the day, **** ww1 who cares about that war anyways.
5/10 (not recommended, huge dissapointment, I was expecting smth much better with better controls)

However, the game is lacking in terms of content, only 9 maps on release day and the 10th was added later (EA is fooling people to believe they are releaseing free DLC to make them stand out as angels). Way too few weapons, and the LMG's are like sniper rifles. The game sold well because of hype surrounding the WW1 setting (which is FAR from historically correct anyway...). The campaign takes 2-3 hours to beat and it's nothing special, only there because it had to have something...

But the worst part is Premium friends. I bought premium pass to be able to play all the new maps, since I got bored of the old ones after 30 hours. Now (after me and thousands of others have bought it already) EA announces Premium friends, which means that if one friend in your party owns premium, everyone in that party will be able to play all the premium maps. As you might hear, I feel ripped off.

Firstly I think the day 1 user reviews are a tad pathetic due to the fact they are either hating on the game and giving it a 0 or looking at it through rose tinted glasses and giving it a 10 based on an hour or so of gametime. I try to be a little more objective than that hence the delay.

This is THE game I have been waiting for this year and now having played on it extensively I will start by saying it is a great game, it still is by no means perfect but still a fine addition to the series.

Graphically it has no peers, this is to me one of the best looking games of all time if not the best. The textures are rich and detailed, the environment stunning and it's just a visual feast to behold, especially running on ultra with everything to the max in 1440p. I have yet to try to remove the hud but I would think that would add yet another level to the setting and it's on my to do list, if I dare that is, not knowing how much ammo I have left before charging the enemy wouldn't be the best scenario to be in. The sound is pretty good too, the sound of shells exploding next to you and gunfire whizzing overhead as you make your way to objectives can be unsettling at times, in a good way.

The multiplayer aspect is as you'd expect with Battlefield games, not much has changed here in my opinion apart from the Operations mode which is great. It is multiplayer where I have spent most of my time, perfecting my roles and learning the dynamics of the game. I always find in Battlefield games that I get destroyed early on but the more I play the more I learn and find my preferred playstyle and start getting positive results. It's always a learning curve and patience and perseverance pay off.

Moving along to campaign, this is where I feel Battlefield 1 falls short. The opening campaign mission that you have to do before unlocking the rest was fantastic, it captured that gritty, gloomy feeling of WWI combat, it was chaotic and it worked. I loved how when I died a name would pop up with birth to death dates show before spawning as someone else in the battle. Sadly the rest of the campaign I feel fails to live up to the first mission and subsequently fails to illuystrate the horrors of WWI combat, the Friends in High Places especially, I hated the cocky Yank guy and couldn't shake that feeling that the campaign had lost its way a little. The lawrence of Arabia mission too, one man (woman) vs all, it's just dubious, obviously in the name of entertainment some creative license was needed but it just felt like it was the wrong call. The campaign fails therefore to capture the horrors of WWI, quite miserably it must be said which is a shame given how good the opening mission was.

The spectator mode is something I want to try but have so far not been able to find out how to, I quite like the idea of messing around with filters and taking screens etc of matches.

Overall I am happy with Battlefield 1, I still wish Dice would have allowed for better character customization and maybe the ability to select race. It just isn't doing anything for historical accuracy to have a squad as diverse as this where the white man was the minority but I suppose Dice have their political views to express, it's not a big problem and I understand why Dice may have wanted to demonstrate their political stance but in the grand scheme of things I just felt it was misplaced. Apart from the historical innacuracies this game is both fun and infuriating at the same time, a fine addition to the franchise but no masterpiece.

The single player tells the horror of the war, It is divided into war stories each stories gives us perspectives of this people during the war. The developers gave amount of respects of the war stories for the veterans who died during it. The missions were good and the visuals and graphics are just beautiful and immersive. I really enjoy the First World War setting of the game. As a lover of history, it's a period that really doesn't get enough focus outside of the realms of dreary English Literature classes that focus on poetry. Battlefield 1 expands the vision of the First World War, focusing on more than just the muddy trenches of France and Belgium and depicting fighting across the world. This diversity give the game a great variety of colour palettes and maps. However, this game is NOT a realistic depiction of the First World War in any way. It borrows the uniforms, conceptual weapons and settings of the period, but it feels more like a multiplayer sequel to Bioshock Infinite than anything. If you want a realistic First World War shooter, pick up Verdun.

Graphically, the game is very strong. Colour palette diversity aside, everything looks very crisp. The character and vehicle models are beautifully done, and many of the levels start with an almost idyllic landscape that quickly degenerates into a war torn hell as a game goes on. To top this all off, the game is insanely well optimised. Using a 2012 i5 CPU and an R9 290 GPU, I was able to clock around 50-60 FPS during intense firefights with Ultra graphics.

The sound design and direction is also brilliant. There are varying filters put over the sounds of gunfire and shouting depending on the environment. Shots in external fields areas ring off mountainsides in the distance, gunfights in houses have a thudding bass to them, and rainswept trenches give off an eerily muted sound. In addition to some brilliant sounds for the weapons, it lends a great authenticity to proceedings.

The gameplay-- whilst very much still a Battlefield game-- has gone through a revision to adapt it to the period. This has been met with mixed success. The main improvement is that the infantry combat in the game is the best the series has ever seen, a necessity given the move away from combined arms to primarily infantry combat with the odd vehicle. Vehicles are rarer but have much more impact due to the fewer means for infantry to destroy them. Previous Battlefield games always suffered from vehicle combat becoming it's own game and ignoring the actual battle being played out. The main failing of DICE on this outing was the questionable balancing of the class equilibrium. The loss of the assault rifle hasn't really been compensated for. Assault rifles in FPS games serve a very distinct purpose in gameplay. They are a jack of all trades, master of none weapon that are capable of engaging at all ranges. They ensure that SMG and Shotgun users don't wipe out swathes of people by keeping them out of range and they stop snipers getting comfortable. Without a range of mobile mixed ranged automatic weapons, changes should have been made. Without them, close quarters combat has become incredibly chaotic whilst snipers can only really be countered by cover or other snipers.

The issue of balance is sidelined by the actual end product of all the effort DICE have put into the game though. Many minute to minute moments of mulitplayer combat could almost pass as scripted set pieces due to the dramatic feel of everything. For example, earlier today I was rushing a point with a few friends. As we approached the point, an enemy light tank appeared and fired at us. I dived into a house with two friends, only for another tank shell to blow the side of the house off and leave me stunned and wounded. At this point, an enemy soldier ran in with a shotgun to finish us off, only for my friend to kill him with a knife. The lighting cast the killing in shadows on the wall and it looked great.

As usual, some modes work and others don't. Strangely, Conquest-- the staple of the series-- is probably one of the weakest modes on offer here. There never really feels like a frontline and games quickly degenerate into chaotic sprints from point to point. Frontlines and Operations are easily the best ways to play the game, and are luckily quite populated. These modes focus on only two points at a time, similar to Team Fortress maps like Dustbowl. It encourages teamwork and gradual progression across the map. and ensures that firefights are coherent but intense.

Finally, the single player is not great. Although it has much more heart than the modern plots, most stories are only two chapters long and fall back on tired storytelling tropes. It doesn't even serve as a means to learn how to play the multiplayer game as two campaigns feature vehicle combat that plays out vastly differently to the multiplayer and one focuses on stealth mechanics that are absent from the multiplayer.

I always feel like I'm fighting against an entire army alone, which is sometimes cool, and sometimes not. Even the companions you have through the story sends you forward and they stay back doing nothing. Wish they could've done something about this.

Good game, I recommend for FPS gamers that love multiplayer,

The good: good multiplayer, excellent artistic direction, good graphics and good performance in PC FHD and 60 FPS without issues, gameplay with vehicles is awesome.

The bad: Campaign is too short and boring, lack of maps in multiplayer, lack of weapons at the beginning in multiplayer, soundtrack is poor.

this is an excellent, polished game. the only reason i gave it an 8 instead of a 9, is because i just dont think these WW1 era guns allow for the best gunplay. and theres not that many guns to choose from vs Battlefield 4. of course that has more to do with the WW1 setting than laziness by DICE. other than that minor complaint, this is a great game. Yes the hell with them DLC, I took the Premium in BF3 and BF4, but here you in the standard version generally have nothing don't give as if you bought a demoversion. The balance is terrible too, beginning from the mechanics of firing, it is simpler than in COD to a netcode. There are no servers too, a ping big - >80. Normally the lure of DLC might bring me back however with Battlefield 1 "Revolution" EA takes a massive dump on the day 1 players. Im all for GOTY editions however usually with a GOTY edition the existing player base has already played the content in it. Thats not the case here, anyone who was unfortunate enough to purchase a season pass with their copy of the game on launch (thankfully I did not after playing the beta I had my suspicions of the looming turd Dice was about to drop) has only received 1 piece of the DLC promised. Now for half the cost anyone else can get that and all subsequent DLC for a fraction of the price. (as I mentioned, Im all for GOTY editions once all content has been released and the loyal players have been given what they paid for in good faith). Judging by the number of active PC players less than 50k per month, this was clearly a last ditch attempt to inject some life blood into the player base or to put it another way, bleed more money from potential players.

I cant imagine any future Battlefield titles will have anything of more depth to offer, the franchise of old is well and truly dead. Go buy COD like everyone else.

Of course, I pre-ordered it. Well, I've played BF 1 for a few months now. Less than a year tho. But I'm disappointed.

The servers are too often laggy. Some classes (let's say Medic) have been nerfed but offer more stability and shooting rate than any sniper rifle. 2-3 bullets are usually enough to kill anybody.

Still, the snipers lack anti-tank means. The K Bullets deal almost zero damage, and you can't carry more than 6.

But that's not what disappoints me the most. It's not the lags. Not the messed up netcode. Not the never-banned cheaters you come accross sometimes. Not the lack of weapon customization. No.

What really pisses me off is the fact that I pre-ordered an empty, unfinished game and paid 60 € (yes, I'm European) for it. To get the Standard Edition. The fact that you can now buy the Revolution Pack for the same price and get a full Premium Access to the game.
And that, if I want to play the DLC, I get to pay 50 more **** €.

Why, EA ? Just WHY are you punishing your trusty fans ?

The community is dying. Battlefield 1 is dying. Players are deserting the game... and still, you won't offer us the ability to benefit the "Premium Friends" access to the new DLCs. Or even the ability to just pay, let's say.. 5 or 10 more € to get a Premium Pass. Nah.

Well, let's hope for you that you don't **** up with Battlefront 2. Coz this will be the LAST time I offer you a chance to NOT disappoint me.

Mass grenade spam, spotting system an unbalance in vehicles, with short respawn times to have you question why it is you even attempt to destroy them. Most frustrating of all being planes vs infantry, as unless you're next to an AA gun, there's not a lot to be done.. other than explode.

The 64 player mode Conquest lends itself great in the more open maps, where others smaller in size can feel like a meat grinder, where you can find each team at either end of a choke point. To then be pushed back to deployment where LMG's sit stationed with bi-pods and ammo crates.
This problem could easily be fixed with map specific player counts.

The game in its current state and most likely final state as we await the release of bf5, is pure chaos. Its a shame it doesn't cater to the competitive scene.

Great for the singleplayer (altough short)
    Meh for multiplayer.

Game servers with no scope, no shotguns, no machineguns, just with simple bolt action rifle with iron sight are really good, and make sense of WW1. But standard servers are not interesting,
Good physics and environment action by the way.

The game is a masterpiece by Dice, both his campaign (although a bit short) and his online, the only bad thing that I see, is that there are almost no good servers in South America, but besides that, the game is quite all right.

Also it isn't really fun playing on your own, you will definately need people to coordinate yourself with.
Still a great game both on the side of Single- and Multiplayer, if you want a Battlefield game, I cannot recommend this one enough!

Played this in beta and it was a mess, thought I'd try it out again after seeing so many people regard it as one of the best battlefields, it's still not worth your time.
Dying simulator with the worst guns, customization and maps of any Battlefield I've played

I went through this game "with grief in half." The fact is that I played at 35-40 FPS and this is sometimes ah, how unplayable ... Especially in the story about Blackburn. As for the game itself, I stumbled upon it in 2018 when I downloaded a pirate for a pc test. I didn’t start playing at that time, while the game didn’t really catch on. Perhaps graphics. So I bought it and decided to go through the campaign. The campaign was impressive, though made for show. In some moments it really breaks through on emotions from the magnificent mnologues of Ch. heroes. The gameplay and controls are also top notch, you quickly get used to it and learn. The game has many types and varieties of weapons: from a pocket pistol to an anti-tank rifle. In general, I liked the game in all respects, the only thing that I did not fully enjoy the game itself because of the small FPS`a. Maybe someday I'll upgrade my pc and go through the game 100%, who knows :)

Campaign is one of the best in the series because It mostly focuses on soldiers and people of the war rather than sides that they were fighting for. It makes you invested in characters even though you spend so little time with them. The multiplayer itself plays great. Weapons feels unique and again pull you into the game even more. Unlock system for the most part feels rewarding and gives satisfaction with each unlocked weapon because of how special each of them is. While some challenges feel tedious and might take some more effort to unlock they are worth the time. Maps perfectly depict war landscapes and use different and unusual settings. This an absolute peak for the series and even now in 2021 you’ll find tons of servers to play on. Personally I think BF1 brings immersion and uniqueness in depiction of war in games (or even war overall to a whole new level. Before I played it I never thought I’d get as invested in the game world while playing with other people as I did in this game. I thought it was a campaign role to deliver such an experience. I have never imagined that any multiplayer game could possibly bring me into it’s world so much. Battlefield 1 is not only a game. It’s art. And while it can’t be called a masterpiece because it’s flawed with a couple of balance issues but it most definitely is another step in showing the reality of war and immersion in video games.

This game is Battlefield, but casual. It has a LOT of interesting takes on the battlefield formula, like different guns instead of attachments, behemoths instead of levolution, sniper sweetspots, the bayonet charge, and this all makes for a fresh battlefield game that doesn't feel like a reskin of BF4. Yes, the game is more casual, but that also makes for a less sweaty and more enjoyable time, even if you're not doing so good.

The game doesn't get a 10 because sometimes it feels a little too casual, like when you get demolished by elite classes or ass-raped by a zeplin, but you also get a lotta times in those elites and behemoths so it's not that big of a deal, and it feels more like Battlefront 2 (the OG good one) then it feels like Battlefield. I still recommend it tho, really **** fun game.

Operations is so **** good, and it feels like the mode that Battlefield should be played on. It's just SO addicting.
