WB continues to kick loyal fans in the balls by giving those who have stuck patiently and loyally to this broken, buggy (but just playable on top line hardware) release free copies of Arkham Asylum, Arkham City and Arkham Origins.

Y'know, the ones that anyone who is playing Arkham Knight already owns and has completed because it's a trilogy (plus a cash-in prequel)... Also, here's

Released as the most broken port I've ever seen.

Literally, the worst trash I've ever seen get released to consumers.

Rocksteady and WB don't care about PC users, they just wanted your money for a broken product, and realized that Steam refunds weren't letting them screw us over and keep our money so THEN they pulled it.

The negative reviews are due to its initial low performance. Atm if you get a decent enough computer it will perform perfectly, a couple of glitches aside. That being said, the game itself is underwhelming, but worth the money.

I think a lot of the existing low reviews were made after playing the original, apparently awful, release. I bought this in October '15 after a major patch, and I have been thoroughly enjoying it so far! It has all the things I liked about Rocksteady's first two Batman games plus a lot of new things. If you like the first two Batman games, definitely get this one!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. AK wants to be more of everything, and this is where it fails.

The basis of the game is solid and where this game simply is an additional version of its predecessors, it works fine: Flying through the city, hand-to-hand-combat, voice-acting and especially the over-arching joker-related parts are superb.

But where it tries to add onto the tried and true formula, it fails horribly:
    - The new story is just too much of everything. Does it really have to be such a doom scenario?
    - The character of the Arkham Knight is shale and stereotypical. Plus, his vast arsenal of mercenaries and resources going unnoticed is just silly.
    - Technology always was a bit too over-the-top in the Batman universe, but this time, it is just too much to be still believable. The voice imitation device? Instant hacking of everything?
    - Logical flaws (like being allegedly unable to hack a number-pad, because it contains no electrical parts ... wtf? ... just to make you use some admittedly nice surveillance camera trick).
    - The worst offender now is the Batmobile. Sure, it is fun driving around, but it is so grossly overpowered and this whole drone-thing that comes with it is just lame. Reminds me of the old C&C days, where the soldiers (in Germany) were allegedly only robots with green blood. Sure.
    - Framerate drops and stuttering as soon as you call the Batmobile.
    - During an extended and repeated chase scene, you fall through the ground and have to drive for five minutes to make up the lost distance because apparently every tank can drive as fast as the Batmobile.
    - Batman does not kill, but he rams people while going over 100 km/h, be they on foot or in a car. Very meh.
    - Far too many riddler riddles. 247 or so. Artificially bloated gameplay.

So while the basics are ok and the Joker-Batman-thing is great and the real core of the game, the rest is a major game-design fail.

And don't get me started on the port.

This should have been so much better.

The game itself is fine, it has everything you'd expect from an Arkham game. Everything from the previous games has been refined, but sadly the game doesn't really invent in any interesting ways. The only really new thing is the batmobile, and it is fun to drive in small doses, but it's definitely overused. There are lots of boring drone fights and there are even car race tracks made by Riddler that make no sense whatsoever.
The story is alright, but quite predictable. The character Arkham Knight is more annoying than anything else and his identity becomes clear far before it's actually revealed. In the end, he doesn't really even contribute anything to the main story overall, he just kinda hangs around and wants to kill Batman (like every other Batman villain ever).

It's nice that the game is finally in a good enough condition to play at least mostly properly. The game doesn't surprise and it definitely doesn't like feel like a grand finale to the Arkham series. It's good, even great sometimes, just not great enough.

I thought AC Unity was bad but in its current state many pc users will find this game unplayable given the poor optimisation and sloppy pc porting. I am partly to blame for preordering (the one time i do lol); certainly learnt the hard way not to do that.

    Now the positives:
Ive played 25 h to complete the main campaign and the actual story, gameplay mechanics, open world are really good (the story in particular wraps up nicely and the game is very hard to stop playing because of the excellent story progression). This is probably my favourite arkham series episode of the trilogy because of the underlying satisfying substance of the game. Too bad and though i recommend the game I don't suggest you consider buying at present (you cant anyway) given its poor execution on pc...

Be careful with the ratings since people love to hate even though the overall experience is not as broken as many would say (although it is obviously sub par).

The map was much better and didn't need the transition to 3D. The gadget panel should have stayed real time and not put into a separate menu that pauses gameplay. Last but not least the batmobile addition seems kinda forced. The critics were spot on about it. Some levels will take so much time to complete because the stupid batmobile lost steering or you didn't drive that great. The first game didn't piss you off with something like this and I have a feeling they should have just made the batmobile work in fewer sections of the game. Expand

Same old, same old. Arkham Knight is way overrated, I seriously couldn't get past the first two hours due to pure boredom. Tank is a nice addition, but this isn't a shooter! There are a few glaring bugs still present in the game which is why I scored it as a 7 where it could have been higher. One of my personal pet peeves is when my control over my character is taken away or diminished, something this game does often. I could overlook it if not for the many unskippable cut-scenes and activities where I'm stripped of all my control and gadgets save one for some specific action that must be taken. It's this mechanic that has caused one of the more troublesome glitches where you become stuck because the game has again limited your ability to control Batman but hasn't provided the object you are supposed to interact with, thus leaving you stuck forever with no choice but to start over or quit. Despite these flaws the game is still enjoyable and I'd say if you're a fan of the series the game is very much worth picking up, though I'd look for it on sale as it's not worth full price in it's current somewhat buggy state. If not for the bugs I'd give it an 8 or 9. If not for all the times in game where I lose control of my avatar for nothing more than a cut-scene or one of the several times I'm forced to stand around and watch scenes play out while I'm restricted to doing nothing but watching (with no way to skip ahead) I would score it higher still. First things first. The game - mostly - works for me. When I bought my PC some years back it was a high end gaming rig but now it's just middle class anymore (i7 3.4 GHz processor, nVidia 560ti, 8 gig RAM) so I don't really mind the 30 fps framecap. Having grown up with 8 or 16bit pixel games I never cared too much about a few more or less fps anyway as long as the graphics run smooth.

I also had a blast with Arkham Asylum and Arkham City is one of my most favourite games of all times but even though Arkham Knight doesn't run too bad on my machine I'm pretty disappointed with it:

    1. It's a joke how they treated the PC port. I shouldn't be one of the few guys this game mostly works with, bugs should be the exception of the rule, not the rule itself.

    2. The bugs and glitches I had were still pretty annoying. I'm at 74% now and so far I had five crashes and some very annoying glitches and bugs (not being able to get out of the batmobile, not being able to pick up Riddler Question Marks from solved puzzles, health bar not regaining after fights and one time when I loaded up my save Batman even was UNDER Gotham City and kept falling and falling into a black abyss - Reload didn't help, "fortunately" a system restart did)

    3. The quests are nothing like in the last two games. Most missions are boring and repetitive fetch quests á la Dragon Age Inquisition: Free x Fireman, destroy x shields, find x bodies, disarm x bombs, extuingish x fires, destroy x enemy towers, etc etc ... Giving the long time they took for developement and especially the much greater variety of the Arkham Games before (heck, even Origins was more interesting here) this was extremely disappointing ...

    4. Overuse of the Batmobile: Often one more feels like in a Batman-GTA than in a real Arkham title. Over and over again the game forces you to use and fight with the Batmobile and those fights usually are extremely boring and repetitive.

    5. I'm only giving the game a five at all because of the interesting main story, the - basically unchanged and so still great - melee fighting system, some (but much too few) great side quests and the old Arkham feeling which still flashes through during certain missions when you have to use stealth and ingeniosity to neutralize your foes like in the Arkham games before.

Overall though, this game is pretty disappointing. It's still a not too bad game but a huge disappointment for the last installment of the Arkham series. I would have given one point more if Rocksteady wouldn't have treated the PC gamers like second class citizens. But even without that and given how great Rocksteady's predecessors were I still can't believe how devoid of imagination Arkham Knight is.

I have an AMD R9 280 w/ 3 GB VRAM and an AMD FX 6100, OC to 4 GHz. I run the game on a standard HDD, not an SSD. I only have 8 GB RAM, and it's not anything fancy, like that new DDR4 stuff. Even with a bottleneck processor, I can run this game at a solid 30 fps at High Settings, and with those specs, that's not too bad... Not too bad at all.

May it's because I wasn't expecting to be able to run the game at 60 fps anyways. I wasn't expecting to be able to run the game at all! I got ahold of it after all the terrible reviews, complaints, and cry-outs. I ignored this 1.7 (at the time of review) user score and the negative steam reviews, and let me tell you, it was worth it.

If you have a system like mine and don't mind using key-sites (g2a, kinguin), go ahead and pick up a copy and see for yourself if it will run. I still get the occasional stutters and there are some animation bugs, but that's to be expected out of a relatively massive open Arkham City, which looks amazing, might I add.

Oh, and the game is quite good, especially if you liked Arkham City. Much better than Origins. This rating of 10 is to tell some of you that there are working copies, and this is playable, even if it is a rarity. I'm sorry that it didn't work for you, but there is a chance, and there should be a patch, just be patient. Warner Bros also has Mad Max to worry about.

Terrible optimization aside, the game is underwhelming on all fronts compared to its predecessors, most notably in its storytelling and pacing. While the previous Arkham games worked despite their plentifully cliched dialogues and archetypal characters thanks to a well-woven main story, it is obvious that the third installment's writing is a far cry from what Rocksteady presented in its collaboration with Paul Dini up until now. Add to that the game's heavy reliance on repetitive and immersion-breaking drone fight orgies, and you have a textbook example of how to run an exceptional series into the heaviest depths of mediocrity. Just like its quasi-mystifying ending (which 90% of us will see only on youtube anyway thanks to some terrific design choices), the game tries to convince you that it's original and smart in some way, when in truth it is quite simply badly done. Cheers, Rocksteady!

Well, there is a LOT of angry people and I AM totally included among them but I'll still try to simplify this big mess in just ONE single and humble question: How the F#CK can a studio or a developer release a game in this tremendously pathetic and unstable state!? I can believe they dare to sheit on PC users, seriosly.

I want to sneak around and kick/scare the **** out of bad guys not drive over them... This is not freaking Carmageddon or GTA.

And the controls... You need to drive through a whole city chasing cars (so batman like) shooting missiles. The missiles shoot with the button 3 so you need to take your finger of the D button. It's so enjoyable missing turns and being frustrated as **** because the story doesn't continue without these missions..

I would like to be able to give this game higher than a zero but I can't actually play it without constant stuttering. Not even with 2 video cards (7950's sure they're older but still decent) can I play the game at 1024x768....yeah not even a wide screen resolution.

I'm holding out that Rocksteady can fix the game that Iron Giant ruined before I request a refund from Steam.

So where do I begin? Well after analyzing this game with a team of superheroes, we've all come to the unanimous conclusion that this game isn't worth the hype it's printed on.

Who is this Batman guy? What is his story? This is stuff that the player needs to know before they start crippling guys who are just trying to get a little cash. This Batman fella is practically an unknown in the comic book world, and he deserved more of an explanation. Where are his parents while all this is happening? Do they know their kid is sneaking out at night, pretending to be a bat, and fighting a chubby Australian dude calling himself the penguin? They need to get their act together.

The Bat Car Mobile Tank Machine is used so often in the game, they might as well have named it "Bat Mobile: Arkham Knight" I don't even remember what Batman looks like anymore! Is he the guy with the green flashlight on his chest?

What's up with the villain? It's like they just brought in some teenager who just finds Batman kinda lame, recorded his voice, and then made a character based off him. It's hard to take a bad guy seriously when he sounds like a 12 year old talking into the monster mash voice changing machine.

Okay okay. You wanna know what else bugs me? Sure you do. Where is all the emotion and death? Where is the big climax? I've been through more emotional twists and turns while looking through my fridge than I have playing this game. I thought this was supposed to be some sorta big finale or something? Isn't that right? Did I miss the memo where the creators came out and said "Hey. Turns out this game is just sorta meh. Like, you can play it if you want... but not really."

Maybe that's why it crashes so much. The creators purposefully rigged the game to crash so the players wouldn't have enough time to realize how awful the game really was. This game crashes more times than I do in the bat mobile. Every time I make a turn I end up falling into the grand canyon. Why is the grand canyon even in this game? I'm telling you, nothing makes sense.

Worst optimization I have ever seen of a console game for PC, and insult to PC owners everywhere.
FPS capped to 30 for a PC port, absolutely unacceptable. Even though you can change it by going into the files yourself, what were they thinking. Very little option control, bad performance, stuttering, huge FPS drops, graphics don't look that good

I'll give it a 1 because they did manage to release a broken game for sale and lie that it would work under recommended PC specs.

I'd give it a 2 if the boss fights in the tank weren't so infuriating, whoever passed this as game worthy should quit the business so we don't get any more games like this in future.

Well, I have to say that I am somewhat confused about all the negative complaints about my PC version of this awesome Holy Bad-ass game! I play Arkham Knight until I crash on my pillow. Yeah, that's right. My PC rig runs this game smooth as silk, until I get my Bat Ass kicked to death, and the game quickly restarts the last checkpoint to wit I bitterly kick the crap out of the bad guys in heated revenge. This game is satisfying after each head kicking scrap. An I love driving my beautiful Batmobile. I don't feel forced to drive it, the balance of Flight or Drive feels very comfortable I just love my new Batmobile - I said that already, didn't I ? Now I have to be Holy Frank with those PC users that are having stability issues - maybe PC gaming is not for those who are refusing to upgrade, or they refuse to take their meds, or maybe these complaints are a Holy Red Herring thrown in by the same Holy Whiner-baby's that never stop complaining about the games they download from pirate websites. ooooh! Did I hit a nerve or two. For crying out loud! I went so far as to do the Holy Modified.ini file to "BmEngine" and "BmSystemSettings" Now my graphics are as lushes wet as cat-woman's lips, and the game still runs smooth, fast and stable until I am ready to pass-out. Well there is a matter of keyboard mapping I would like to see improved, I suppose I could grab a new keyboard with macro programing cause this button mashing is killing my fingers. What more can I say, if you have the right PC hardware configured correctly then this game will be far superior to the previous two Arkham games. I totally give this game a Holy Diversionary Tactics score of 9.8 out of 10 Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm a huge, huge, HUGE Arkham series fan and literally love the previous games in the series for the amazing pacing, rich world and cool gameplay.... but Arkham Knight disappoints!

NOTE: This is not a performance review, nor a port rant, nor a technical complaint of any kind. It's a game review for what the game is about. Possible SPOILERS bellow.

To me the game worked just fine. Crashed only twice, didn't experience any major gameplay and also weren't much bothered with the 30 FPS cap which note is for all platforms. Yes, I would have liked to have higher frame rates but it wouldn't stop me enjoy my top favorite game series for the last 5 years.

    TIPS: To have best performance:
    1. Disable NVIDIA Enhanced Smoke, it's the biggest performance hog, though even with it is still playable
    2. This is the bad one. Use an SSD for the game install. I don't have a stellar spec machine but to me it worked fine with stable 30 frames (it hitched from times to times but not that hard and not often at all)
    3. If you unlock the frames you will notice the ups and downs in frame rate far more and the enjoyment will be far less

Now for the review itself… Why did I give my top favorite series last installation a 6... Sadly because it has too much flaws in almost everything that it tries to do. The game offers you a rather sizable city with so many options to explore that at some point you can't feel anything but overwhelmed by it. Rocksteady, the developers behind the series seem to have forgotten what made the previous games so good. It was a very solid and fine tuned progression, very focused experience. The story felt fresh and engaging and the asylum/city was full of rich details and areas to explore. The Catwoman addon to Arkham City was a great add on to Batman’s story and she felt unique and very diverse to play with

With Arkham Knight, things are different. The game includes the addition of the Batmobile and it tries really hard to force it down your throat and convince you how great it is... which sadly was not the case. Inherently there are no major problems with the Batmobile, but we enter this world to be the Batman... not his car and as such the car should have been more of an extension of his tool belt rather than a mandatory companion of many of the games forced car sequences.

Sadly the combat has suffered as well. There are some great additions to enemy variety and abilities. The medics make you think more often about your priorities, charging enemies interrupt your established flow and Batman's move list feels radically improved, but with that.... Gone is the clarity in combat, gone is the precise impact and interaction with the enemies, gone is even the slightest intimidation that any big enemy group provides.

You can easily overcome any group of enemies with all the things that you can do and the combat has suffered in several aspects because of that expanded variety. Moves performed by the characters didn't contact properly. Everything happens so fast, but you still notice how limbs don’t do what they were supposed to. The combat felt more hectic and chaotic than in previous games. More noticeable were big particle effects on every punch, which to my opinion weren't really necessary. And not with the addition of all secondary playable characters, combat doesn't feel unique it's more of a thing to do, doesn't really matter how you do it, just don't die, don't kill the objective too early (interrogations), and .... Don’t care with which character are you doing it considering they are practically identical and appear for no more than 10 minutes of screen time.

I did mention the big city, this however didn't mean that the city has suffered in detail (similarly to the city created in Origins) It's a very beautiful and detail rich city. There are quite a number of small details in the environment if you walk down the streets and take the time to explore.... which you never do, nor does the game encourage you. The constant all direction sense of urgency and danger makes you run (mostly fly) from spot to spot without noticing much where are you currently and what’s around you. Many of the city set pieces were never explored fully (like the underground old Gotham or even less the over ground new Gotham)

You mostly fly/drive around beating the living hell of anything that moves... Because you are Batman... Your team is astonishingly incompetent (Oracle, Nightwing, Robin) and the bad guys have you so often dead to rights that at some point you wonder how are you still alive.

Don’t get me wrong. All in all, I did like the game. There were some incredibly written set pieces and parts of the story was greatly enjoyable to see how they will unfold, but sadly this was not the majority of the game littered with the issue of too big goals, too poor execution and great lack of focus spread too thin all . The predictable story and the forced Batmobile didn’t help either.

The core story & voice acting is poor compared to previous versions, the Batmobile sequences are clunky and boring and should have been a rare inclusion / bonus feature , not a routine rinse / repeat system that the game forces on us in nearly every mission. There is a distant lack of boss fights overall, and the ones that are included are poor and don't have the same escalation of excitement as they should have. The combat is the same as before, and doesn't take on board any of the improvements to this system we saw in Monolith's Shadow Of Mordor. (Also a WB game) which felt much more satisfying. Overall, if the game had run flawlessley on PC, it would have probably gotten a 5 from me....but...

Combine this mediocre game, with terrible technical issues that not only affect frame rate and graphics but also sound problems and stabiltiy / crashing issues and this is well and truly in the flop of the year category as far as the PC version is concerned. They may well fix the major issues once the game goes back on sale, but even then I 'd suggest you simply play Arkham Asylum or City instead. I think you will be happier with your purchase.

A lot of textures on walls, doors, or panels don't fill in making it look like it has textures out of the ps2 era. There are the least amount of graphical options I have seen in a PC game.
In terms of an Arkham game, it is mediocre at best. Nothing of the story all that compelling and the game seems much more empty than other Arkham games. The emphasis on outside environments rather than strategic indoor sequences that actually made me feel like Batman in the other games make this game lack in memorable Batman sequences. Overall, this game needs a decrease in price and Rocksteady and Iron Galaxy should be absolutely ashamed in how horrible this port is and how they have treated PC games as second class gamers.

I created an account solely to say how fed up I am with terrible, broken releases like this. After Watchdogs, I swore I would never preorder another big studio title again- I had faith in WB, their stuff was usually pretty good. But now they are on my **** list, never to return.

This game might be a good game, im not really sure since i wasn't able to play the game at a frame rate higher than 25 fps due to the terrible PC port. It kills me that the port is this bad, Arkham Asylum and City are two of my favorite games, and i was really excited to play this game. I will revise my review if the new PC patch is able to actually make the game playable.

Yet, not sure that was it just limited to my PC or not.

Batman Arkham Knight is such an awful game at launch. I experienced crashes, bugs, graphical problems and especially memory leaks, this game uses a very large amount of RAM.

Highly unoptimized for an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 graphics card and an Intel Core i7 930 Bloomfield quad-core CPU.

Game feels very rushed and plays like a Steam Early Access game, completely regret pre-ordering this game.

What I am going to say is, probably the best modern Joker of all time is in this game and he torments you all game. His parts are brilliantly done. So, just because of this, I can easily give 9/10. I am not even going to talk about amazing gameplay features.

So, yeah, the game is actually amazing. I am sorry that most of you are so obsessed with graphics, you can't experience it because of horse blinders.

Get a good rig, get it set up right and you will prevent all these issues. The port was horribly done with alot of graphics options taking away and not being that great in general.

The story itself is a good story but if you have followed the batman comic franchise then you wil know right away who the arkham knight is and sadly that will bring the anticipation right down but it’s still awesome to see at the same time the voice acting as well is great with Kevin Conroy coming back to play the voice of batman.

Gameplay is the exact as past arkahm games have been so thankfully that’s a good thing to see
Overall the game is great for story and for batman fans in general but I would hold off buying the pc version until the fix it or buy it on the consoles but hopefully they will have these problems fixed

It really is a great game. It's everything I could have asked for and more.

I can understand the perspective of thinking there's too much batmobile, but I think too much has been said of it, and nobody is really looking at it with an open mind. It's batman's new gadget, and the designers have treated it as such by playing it heavily into the game. It seems like people just wanted more

I can understand the perspective of thinking there's too much batmobile, but I think too much has been said of it, and nobody is really looking at it with an open mind. It's batman's new gadget, and the designers have treated it as such by playing it heavily into the game. It seems like people just wanted more combat/predator, but I for one played the hell out of origins (and I'm not afraid to admit that, as that game has some redeeming qualities that have been overlooked), and that game had so much combat/predator that this is a welcome addition. There's loads of combat/predator in this game, there's just loads of batmobile too.

And yes the story is a little predictable, and yes the dialogue is a little melodramatic at times, but it's a batman game, no? I think compared to city the story is way more cohesive. City was just a mess of rougue gallery mash-up, albeit a fun one, but when I look back on it, it was certainly just a cheesy and predictable.

Finally, as for the performance issues, I couldn't wait any longer to play this thing. I've got an nvidia card that's not all that great. I left the frame rate capped and the nvidia effects off, but everything else is turned up. Granted there are frame rate drops, but nothing that has hampered my playthrough. I'll play my new game+ when the patch comes out.

My recommendation? Play this game for what it is. Enjoy it because Rocksteady has done an amazing job, and they aren't going to do another. It really is the ultimate batman sim, and they've refined every tool in their chest to make it that way. Get to know the batmobile, before you shut it down. It is seriously fun, and although it's a strange fit to what's already there, I think this studio's ambition is something you rarely get from a big studio with a lot of expectations on them these days. The things that don't work in this game, are better than other game's best qualities.

You can't adjust the speeds of camera look??? This is beyond lazy, this is plain stupidity. When gliding or the batmobile is on screen, the game stutters horribly or will freeze for 2-3 seconds often. That's what the worst thing about the game is, a slideshow instead of a fluid game.

Just to mention, I am running on pretty decent hardware.

I purchased the game based on the reputation of the previous Arkham games. However after installing the HUGE file, the game crashed within minutes. I haven't been able to play more than 5~10 consecutive minutes without some kind of crash, frame rate drop or graphical aberration. Furthermore in the unlikely event that the game works for a brief period, the 30fps cap is insulting, and the environments look jittery. This PC-port has some of the poorest optimisation in history and it's clear that the studio responsible for the port lacks any quality control process. I am baffled how this was allowed to be released. What utter garbage; I feel like I've been scammed.

I wish I could comment on the worth of the actual game itself, but it is currently UNPLAYABLE in any shape or form. Thankfully the introduction of steam refunds seems to have been well timed. It has been pulled from steam a few hours ago and I am not surprised.

It is an absolute mess. A trainwreck. I feel downright cheated to be honest.

If I could even manage to stabilize at 30FPS for more than a few seconds I would be thrilled, but my computer — a machine that nearly meets the Ultra system requirements posted by Rocksteady and Nvidia themselves — cannot even keep 20FPS with all settings turned down. Why? How? I have 8gigs of RAM, a 4gig VRAM GPU, a high quality SSD, a powerful multi-core CPU. By all accounts, my computer should be crushing the otherwise demanding game, but instead it is a mess of a slideshow. It is almost like watching a blurry comic book. This isn't even touching on what happens when I have to drive the car or get into fast gliding.

The games from the past had troubles during launch, but this is hands down the most distressing, the most enthusiasm and fun crushing experiences I can recall on PC. I thankfully didn't lose any money on this, but that doesn't give me back the time and sanity lost to this game.
