And the company Fall Damage seems to be 100% incompetent, they have managed to do nothing to market their game, not sales no nothing, they basically abandon their player base before they even released the game, dont buy their future games!
The core gameplay is actually really good if you ever get a game but you wont. Well than the game has a lot of other issues. The game has been called Overwatch Immortal, which is strikingly true.
If there is one thing the game has issues with its the soulless graphics and models that makes no sense.
First of all, most units looks and behaves nothing how they actually are played. So many units its impossible to assume what their powers are as they look way to artsy fartsy or are not expressive enough for a second. This means you have to read on every units, you have to just know with a few rare exceptions. The intro per hero is stolen straight up from Overwatch, BUT looks horrible, where is the Blizzard charm? the Personality per hero? their actions does not corresponds to how they are played at all, or how they are written otherwise. Instead of using this time to showcase what the hero is, ergo a healer, tank, dps etc they all have the same soulless opening more or less.
This is extra sad as the gameplay and the basic hero design etc is actually really good, the heroes got interesting mechanics, they can combo with other units, each unit has intriguing passives etc. Each unit basically follows the moba style of 3 abilities and an ultimate. With different cooldown and cost, this is surprisingly well balanced and you can do so much different stuff with different combination of units, the games deepth seems to be huge but unfortunately you can never find anyone to play with...
The game is played out as you first build your squad with 1 hero and 2 points, tier 1 unit cost 1 point and tier 2 unit cost 2 points. So here you can have different size of your squad as well. During a match, you spawn your hero + 4 point of squad (so you can take 4 t1 or t t2 etc) and then the game is a turn based fight where you either kill all opponent units or take control over 3 different control areas that will reward 1 player with 1 point each turn if they have the majority (of all 3 control zones), first player to 5 point wins.
Simple as it core but got some very cool and well thought out units that will fight it out, each move sets you at timeline for the next turn, similar to e.g FF10, overall the games gameplay feels like a duel thing of FFT, Disgaea front mission, mainly different TJRPG. But as mentioned with a moba/rts feel to each unit. You give each unit a command and then they will act their commands in a execution phase out in order of their timeline (e.g like ff10xdisgaea as mentioned)
When you actually got a match the game plays great except its camera work....and lack of vision, well and performance. Oh yeah and that all the typical boredom game wait its a huge problem such as super long spinning coin flip for some reason, a lot of extra unnecessary stuff like that.
So first of all the snow stage in particular lags, the game really is pretty poorly optimized. Spawning in unit can soft freeze the game and so on.
When you actually play the game you really lack a good tool for vision ( this was later improved in their 1 and only update but not nearly enough) But more so jarring is the shady camera work that for some reason focuses in on all kind of battles and then jumps around....instead of showing what their artillery is shooting at, it zooms to the artillery and dont even show the unit it hit lol....its just looks ridiculous its like the devs never played a strategy game in their life! The interesting thing to understand is what happenings not focus on some meh animation. The game very slowly resolves its execution phase not just how back and forth and unnecessary the movement of camera/angles is during it but also afterwards when the game takes like a lifetime to sort its timeline out.
The game has similar slow issues with as mentioned - for some reason the coin flip is like 30 seconds, the wait them at start is super long no dynamic timers at all, pressing the end turn button is a hold in=!=!???!? I did not even get how that worked at first and it takes A LONG TIME for some reason, all of the games UX is **** basically.
At the core the game is unfortunately again FUN to play but everything around it is so lackluster or straight up badly implemented or thought out.
Bottom line is dont buy the game with no online anyway and stay clear from Fall Damage as they proven they got no idea what they are doing… Expand
