Although there is no particular story or purpose to follow in Astroneer, a very deep gameplay along with entertaining multi-player and stunning visuals are enough to make it worth your time and money.

Astroneer is a great adventure if you play it with someone, since playing it alone makes it quite simple and repetitive.

Astroneer is simply another sandbox survival game, albeit enriched by several interesting features. Nothing new or surprising for genre fans to see.

In short, Astroneer is a calming, vibrant, genuinely enjoyable experience until you start to set goals for yourself. At this point it becomes a bit of a chore and strays into frustrating grind territory that has no real guarantee of tangible results – and suddenly the buggy menu system, tangled controls, and lack of resources culminate in an inevitable fit of rage. Luckily, if you need a bit of post-anger stress relief, we have just the game for you… have you played Astroneer yet?

Astroneer‘s a neat little game full of little quirks and things to discover, but near the end of my time with it I was definitely starting to burn out on the loop of creating equipment on one planet before blasting off into space, landing in new, harsher environment, and starting from scratch once more. Grab an Astropeer and a couple of Astrobeers and this title could easily provide a few evenings’ worth of entertainment. Beyond that, the numerous bugs and repetition of the core experience make it a less appealing prospect.

Astroneer is a beautiful game that does nothing less than expected: "A game of aerospace industry and interplanetary exploration." accordingAstroneer is a beautiful game that does nothing less than expected: "A game of aerospace industry and interplanetary exploration." according to their steam page. It is actually a lot more than it appears to be and often evokes feelings in you that you wouldn't expect from a game of its style. The development of Astroneer was a long, hard, windy road (i know this courtesy to a Youtube documentary) and the game has made dramatic progress since its launch.

However, I am not one to give something credit for the effort put in, because the output is all that matters for players. The game has some great, innovative mechanics and is very rewarding (such when you unlock interplanetary travel or notice how magnificent your base has become) but I should add that it is not optimized as well as it could be and the gets tedious at times. The tediousness comes from some slightly 'grindy' mechanics such as research, but this gets better the more you progress into the game.

If you are the type of person that needs an objective to drive your progress, then you're in luck because they recently added one. This objective is not exactly riveting but it certainly gives you something to work towards. The multiplayer aspect of the game has been improved dramatically and only has a few bugs here and there. One last thing to note is that the game is not solely focused on base building and there are sadly no automation mechanics as of yet. This game is a great buy if you're interested in any of the following genres: base building; survival; exploration; or just some fun with friends.

As for the game, it is okay. It is not ground breaking, nor good looking, it is rather... average? Currently Steam reviews are going down for good reasons I suppose. The terrain looks ugly most the time. Check out Steam reviews for more complaints, esp. by disappointed long time players and Early Access fans. I, personally, find Astroneer a bit too buggy, laggy, the terrain with either too many cracks (mesh holes, actually) or too ugly? How did they come up after so many years in EA with such awful textures and models? This is not okay for that price. And the long term gameplay... is just not fun. Wait for a decent discount. Astroneer is no way worth more than $4-5. But, of course, it could be so much more, but my guess is, as some journalists pointed out, that the actual devs did not have the experience in handling such a game on their own, as if they did not fully grasp what survival fans need and want. But I fully understand why other players enjoy it, for sure. Cheers Expand
