They reached the stretch goal of Story Mode before it released as EA on Steam. That was November 2022 - and for all practical purposes, that's where development stopped. Not for lack of effort, but the dev team is now down to one person and while the game is playable, it's nowhere near a state where one person can finish it off. The basics are there and it's true you can sink many dozens of hours into it. For what's there, it is quite good, but it's a long way from being finished. It's basically been left as a sandbox game while the sole developer tries to dig himself out of dev-hell trying to get multi-player working.

The core function of the game (star gates) are completely broken. Stargates are where you go in the game to expand into new universes but they're just as likely to get you completely lost, make your base completely vanish or even just kill you. They should have a large (Under Construction - WARNING) sign on them. Or better yet, just take them out until they work.

Nothing against the sole dev - he's doing a Herculean effort, but he's just way in over his head. The game is in serious danger of stagnating so I'd wait 6 months or so to see if anything improves. Sadly, it has the early signs of a game that ends up abandoned after many months of waisted effort and no real progress.
