Spent 2 hours climbing mountains in Norway and it was maybe best fun i have had in 2020 video game. This game can be extremely relaxing, climbing some huge mountain and just looking at the distance while wind slowly blows. It can also be very brutal, if you want, you can fight so many different enemies and bosses. There's so much to do, so much to explore and it's actually fun. Amazing game.

Assassin's Creed is not something you can quickly finish and move on to next "cool game". This game series focuses on exploration, stealth and really just enjoying the environments.
Of course it also has brutal combat and all that cool stuff, but what i'm trying to say is that it's not your average 5-10 hour game. If you don't wanna actually enjoy it and take your time, there's no point

Whoever dislikes this game is not real Assassin's Creed fan. It's a fact! This game has every element that makes AC game and it's a good one at that. Odyssey problem wasn't big map, Odyssey problem was too much pointless content and grinding, that's all gone in Valhalla. What's left is interesting and meaninful content and no grinding. Valhalla has two big maps and England has many cities where parkour is possible, very similar to Unity. Overall very good game. Unity was nice, but Black Flag did huge map even before Unity. Valhalla has best of both worlds. Even tho i really like Unity, it got bit boring after a while. That's why i like big maps where you can go somewhere else than city, you are not restricted in that one area. Expand

Rather disappointed. I really enjoyed Origins and Odyssey, so I expected more from Valhalla. Combat is just awful - constantly getting knocked down, and the controls are so sluggish. And some quests are just tedious. They really need to do more beta testing next time and be sure the game is actually fun to play.

How can anyone in their right mind say that Odyssey is better Assassin's Creed game than Valhalla? It's absolutely fine, if you prefer Odyssey more than Valhalla, as a video game. They are too mature to argue on internet. They don't care about pointless drama. They just want to enjoy games. But i feel like sometimes Ubisoft fans should fight back stronger. Yeah it's cool you praise these things on reddit, but there's way more important sites and metacritic is one of them.

No youtuber never mentions some random reddit "praise post" but they always show metacriti'c user score and these videos get 100 000's on views. This is manipulation 101. I know it's pathetic, because metacritic user score is most meaningless thing on this planet, but fact is, that these people are using it. It's just bunch of losers, usually some tasteless crackwatch-reddit users who hate on Ubisoft in general. They don't even play their games, they don't even care about their games. They are just pathetic, whiny losers and nothing else.

When Far Cry 6 comes out in few month, i guarantee, bunch of Ubisoft haters (who will never buy Far Cry 6 btw) start giving it 0/10 scores and i feel like this time Ubisoft fans really, really need to fight back. It has gone too far. Cdproject red released most talentless game in 20 years and these people still try to praise it, while hating on Ubisoft's perfectly decent games that actually work. Like i said, these scores don't matter at all, they never did, never will, but i feel like Ubisoft fans (and there are millions) should for once actually try to fight back, even if it's just to annoy these haters. Even that would be worth it.

It has nothing to do with company. Ubisoft has made lots of games i don't care about at all (Breakpoint, Division 2, For Honor, Crew 2) and if Valhalla would be one of these bad games i would ignore it as well, but that's not the case. Valhalla simply isn't bad game. It's just not and nothing, absolutely nothing will change that fact.

This is Assassin's Creed game, just like Black Flag is Assassin's Creed game. Just cause you have more things to explore, more activities, more enemies than AC 1, doesn't mean it's not Assassin's Creed. Literally same could be said about GTA. Yes it is! Deal with it!

Now it's solid open-world AC game, but sadly it's not better than Black Flag. I just wish story/mission design was more interesting or unique. Black Flag had all kinds of unique mission designs and also story was better. In Valhalla missions aren't that interesting, but there's still many fun ones. But true star of Valhalla is it's open world and freedom to do whatever you feel like. That's what was missing from AC 1 for me, because these games can simply be so much more than just generic assassination games. AC is not and should not be Hitman. AC should be ALWAYS compared to games like GTA or Red Dead Redemption. You can do so much more in these games than just the basic story stuff and that same logic should apply to AC and most people seem to understand that. It seems to be minority who complains that AC is not so linear anymore. Most people seem to like that freedom and more activities. This open world is there for a reason! Might as well fill that open world with content and that's what Ubisoft did in both Black Flag and Valhalla, even Unity and Syndicate. That is the right direction.

Thanks to that exploring in Odyssey was awful, because high level enemies killed you everywhere unless you were high level yourself. That doesn't happen in Valhalla, in Valhalla you can assasinate anyone with one hit and thanks to that explore the whole world without worry of getting killed. Also, i like that Valhalla has better music and more serious tone than Odyssey, Odyssey was too light-hearted and not in a Syndicate way (Syndicate was perfect mix of serious and lighthearted), but Odyssey does it in cringe way. Most dialogue in Odyssey is just bad writing. Valhalla is more serious, more focused and Norway-England is in general more interesting setting than Greece could ever be anyway. Expand

Absolutely no other gaming company makes these kinds of historical fiction games where you can climb on top of every building, etc. Haters don't care about historical locations at all. They most likely don't even know / care about history that much. They just wanna whine about every game Ubisoft makes, because they think it makes them look cool, but in reality it makes them look stupid, because Assassin's Creed has millions of fans all over the world and they clearly understand the appeal of these games. These are likely more level headed people, so no wonder they don't come to sites like metacritic, they don't even care about places like that. But this site attracts losers who just wanna hate and whine. I Found this news-site from 2017 that was about "fake reviews on AC Origins". Then why has nobody removed all these fake zeros?? Or maybe they don't care anymore, because last of us 2 gets 100s of fake positive and negative reviews every single day. I can say one thing, i will support Ubisoft till the day i die, they make good video games and it's very clear that they get hate because they are popular. If haters would get their way and all these other companies would go away then gaming would be dead because we would get 1 game in 5 years. Because that's all they want. They want only CDprojectred to exist and they hate absolutely everything else and i think i know why. Because they can pirate their games and of course losers will automatically support them. Expand

That's the new standard for the Assassin's Creed experience, and that in itself isn't a miserable thing, even if the games become closer to chore lists than actual enjoyable challenge. After Odyssey, I expected the repetitive action game with RPG elements to come back, but I wasn't expecting the horrendous bugs and random performance issues to still be present in the game well over a month after launch.

Visual bugs and minor gameplay ones I can handle, so long as they aren't debilitating. What starts to test my patience are the bugs where an NPC stops walking, preventing me from completing her quest, which is followed by a bug where I can't speak to anyone at Ravensthorpe. No amount of reloading past save files or progressing with the main story helped, so I'm stuck being unable to do much of anything at the main camp. Since I'm over twenty hours in, this really took me out of the entire experience.

Then there are the random performance drops. My laptop isn't exactly a top of the line, $5,000 beast that can run brand new games at 240 FPS in 4k resolution, but it's more than enough to handle Valhalla when the game is behaving. After fast traveling, I'd randomly drop to a max of 25 FPS, and that was when I was looking at a featureless area with no NPCs around. That would always require a full restart of the game, and when it can happen multiple times per play session, I started to think that maybe I don't even want to bother.

Another disappointment is how visually dull everything is. With ancient Greece, even if it wasn't 100% accurate to the time period, the development team could make these grand structures of shining white marble. I know you lose some of that with 9th century England, but the core of Assassin's Creed has always been exploring interesting historical areas using its freerunning system to scale magnificent architecture of the time. Mud huts and longhouses just aren't visually stimulating. When you do get the odd tower, they're all in some state of ruin and completely identical to the next tower.

The entire experience isn't all bad, though. The gameplay is enjoyable at its core, even if it doesn't evolve enough to justify the forty+ hours of runtime. It's still satisfying to chop everything in your path, and the skill tree system they implemented isn't entirely unwelcome. It's more for show, since there's so much overlap in each one, but the idea was cute enough to be worth a try. It's always a bit of a rush to blow your horn and start a raid, even if that diminishes over time.

Another positive in the game's favor is the slightly tighter story focus. It reminded me of Assassin's Creed II in that way, and the series could really use a return to a strong character like Ezio. Eivor isn't unlikeable really, but you're always going to sacrifice narrative focus when your game is full open world. Odyssey at least had an engaging enough protagonist AND a visually spectacular world, so Valhalla feels like a step back as an entire package.

As a whole, the game wasn't ready to be released. Even a month after release, the game still isn't ready. I've played Assassin's Creed games on launch before, and while buggy to an extent, I've never been walled off from significant chunks of those games because of the bugs. It'll probably be in a much better state by the end or January, but I'm really disappointed with this entry in the series.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a great-looking open-world game with impressive landscapes and cinematography. However, the checklist collectible open-world still needs some work to feel truly engaging, and combat is too tedious and too frequent to be compelling. As a lapsed fan of Assassin's Creed trying to see if I can click with the series once again, Valhalla didn't quite hook me as I was hoping it would.

Assassins Creed Valhalla is a lot of fun and easy to sink dozens of hours into. It is the best entry in the more recent trilogy and genuinely elevates the gameplay mechanics. Content could be considered somewhat bloated still, but it is diverse enough and the setting and story is solid most of the way through.

Sneaking is fun, fighting is fun, walking through the great outdoors is so much fun. Sightseeing too! Valhalla is free minded and could be innovative, but lacks skills to persuade its players about that. [Issue#308]
