doesn't deserve the rating it got. definitely one of the best parkour mechanics in the franchise, and the visuals. the main story is boring overall but missions make the game less boring.

It's no longer as bad a game as it was when it came out, but still it's not a good game. I need to try this game again in the future. I still haven't played long enough hours.

Expand

Assassin's Creed: Unity marks a return to the classic Assassin's Creed formula, bidding farewell to the island-hopping and naval combat of previous titles like Black Flag and Rogue. The game's visuals are nothing short of breathtaking, holding up even against modern AAA releases.

The parkour mechanics in Unity are a double-edged blade. While they offer fluid and acrobatic movements, at times, they lean towards the theatrical side, making the protagonist, Arno, resemble more of a Spider-Man than a true stealthy assassin. Nevertheless, the parkour feels incredibly smooth and enjoyable, making it arguably the best in the series to date.

Stealth gameplay is where Unity truly shines. The game offers an impressive array of assassination options and opportunities to take down enemies discreetly, making it the pinnacle of the franchise in terms of stealth mechanics. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for combat, which falls flat and disappoints players who prefer intense and satisfying brawling.

The city of Paris is a marvel in itself, providing players with a massive playground for parkour and exploration. However, some may find the city's visuals somewhat monotonous, with an abundance of blue and gray tones. Personal preferences play a role here, but the overall design captures the essence of the time period.

Arno's story is decent but lacks the depth and charm of some of the series' most memorable protagonists. Additionally, the present-day storyline is minimal and fails to leave a lasting impression. The missed opportunity to connect Unity's narrative to that of Rogue is a letdown for fans of the franchise's overarching lore. The game ends with a disappointing and unsatisfying ending that makes the whole adventure pointless and leaves players feeling cheated.

Co-op missions are a notable addition, offering enjoyable multiplayer experiences. However, technical issues and the fact that everybody is the same character disrupts the immersion.

Since its troubled launch, Unity has received numerous patches and updates, resulting in a more stable and polished experience. While some minor bugs remain, they are no longer a significant concern for players.

Assassin's Creed: Unity offers a mix of excellence and shortcomings. It excels in providing a compelling assassin experience with its outstanding parkour and stealth mechanics, but falls short with lackluster combat, a weak present-day story, and an unsatisfying ending.

With an extensive list of 57 achievements, players have plenty of challenges to conquer. Regrettably, these achievements are not integrated into the Steam platform, but they can be tracked and earned through Ubisoft Connect. Although not even there you will not be able to share your progress, since only you can see it.

In conclusion, Assassin's Creed: Unity delivers a captivating journey through historical Paris, but its imperfections prevent it from achieving true greatness. Nevertheless, it remains a solid addition to the series, offering fans an engaging and immersive adventure in the heart of the French Revolution.

The only "good" things in this game are the parkour, the story, and maybe the weapons. First of all, I have to say that the final version of the game is technically much better than when it first came out, but there are some crappy things that the game does in a way that cannot be fixed. The main story missions are still bearable, but what are those side-contents! It's not about chasing weed or **** it's bull**** about why we should do it. Okay, you are connecting everything to the Animus device, we are in a simulation or something. Come on, we come across missions called 'rift' with this logic, platform-based and beautiful missions, but there are very few of them in the game and they are designed for the main storyline. The conclusion I drew from those missions, I realized that if Ubisoft made linear games rather than open world, they would do much better. Even if it is ridiculous, this game cannot be played without the whistle mechanic. The tools we have are so useless that instead of distracting the enemies, we pull them towards us and we are caught instantly. There is an inventory system, but what are those clothes, our original outfit and the outfit we bought at the end are cool, but the clothes we wear piecemeal are very bad. It's satisfying to just take it for its functions. The period and atmosphere it contains attracts my attention, it reflects this well in the game, but there is a crowd that has no meaning or effect in the gameplay part. The jumping mechanic is actually good, but the character moves so slowly that it can sometimes go astray. They've already fixed this issue significantly in subsequent games. I will say that if you are not interested in Assassin's Creed games, I definitely do not recommend it. Expand

I have to admit that Assassin's Creed was never my really my favorite thing. I remember back when the first games came out, I tried to get into it a few times, but I never made it past the first half hour. The one that got me was the Black Flag, the setting was just too damn interesting for me to pass this game. I was not exactly thrilled, but I got into the story and now AC is part of my routine. In AC: Unity we leave the ocean and arrive in the city of Paris amidst the French Revolution. Now I hate revolutions and all the dread they inevitably bring and I hate the French. But I was determined to persevere. I did and I can even point some of the positives of this game: first and foremost, the setting. This time the developers really did put in a lot of work into creating a faithful replica of Paris. It is really beautiful and as historically accurate as the story allows it to be. It is really great and I spent hours just walking around the city and admiring the architecture and comparing it to its current state. Many landmarks have their own little entry in the game's database, so it can also be educational. The other thing I like are the murder mystery quests. These are a great addition to the series and I had a lot of fun playing them. The customizable weapons and armor are also a welcome improvement. But honestly, that is just about it. The rest of the game is just meh. I guess my main problem with the entire series is just how repetitive these games are. The main story follows the very well known format: He's a templar! Kill him! Oh, he's a templar also! Kill him! They have tried to spice it up a little bit, with at least few innovative ways of assassination, but frankly it is too little. There is a number of side quests with interesting lore, but all of them are also just kill, kill, kill. My other big problem, also with the entire series, is the damn console like controls. No matter how much time I spend playing these games, the controls still feel clunky and awkward, something that does not happen to me with other games. Classic AC feature: no manual save, just autosave. It is honestly not that bad, but I always prefer to save myself. Graphics is pretty good, kinda bleak colors. Game font is again pretty mundane. The stealth system can sometimes inexplicably fail and reveal your position, it happened to me enough times that it is worth mentioning. And one more little detail that can become pretty annoying. Several types of info windows with various text and in game information all overlay in one part of the screen, making you to wait to read what you want to read. And finally the infamous Ubisoft collectables. There are no less than 500 useless collectables and you will spend no less than 10 hours of your life to collect them all to gain nothing of worth. Microtransactions are present in many forms: buying special in-game currency with real life money, overpriced season pass that contained only one standard length story DLC and the myriad of weapon packs. SJW politics are present, but I would almost say that in lesser quantity than in the previous two games, which is somewhat surprising. But just to name a few: the drag queen, the army of women quest, female soldiers murder mystery.

    DLCs:

Dead Kings - The first and only real story DLC for AC Unity. It takes you just outside of Paris to a little town called Franciade with a nice, darker, gloomier atmosphere. Nothing changes in the gameplay, the story is set after the main game. The only big addition is the large system of underground dungeons and caves connected underneath the town. There are a few side quest, but the main focus is on the main story of the DLC. The puzzles in this DLC are not difficult on their own, but because they are not set up or explained at all, they can be really confusing. The biggest problem of this DLC is the greedy attitude of Ubisoft, charging 40 USD for a season pass, which contain just this 5 hour DLC and a few worthless weapon packs. That is shameful. Verdict: 55 %

I do not know what more to say. At no point did this game excited me, not really. Final Verdict: 52 %

Graphically the game is absolutely stunning for a 2014 title, but to achieve that quality the rendering distance took a big hit.

The soundtrack does not disappoint; but for me, lacks that punch. A lot could be said about the protagonist of the game, and I think he's one of the main aspects that will determine if you like the story or not. Many blame him for being plain and boring,

A lot could be said about the protagonist of the game, and I think he's one of the main aspects that will determine if you like the story or not. Many blame him for being plain and boring, but I would argue that his lover is the one that drags him down. When his love interest isn't directly linked to the story arc, it's usually more interesting.

There is a good amount of content in the game. When the main story started to take a turn for the worse, it was the side content that kept me enjoying the game, as the Paris Stories, the Murder Mysteries and Helix Rifts were all really fun.

The parkour side of this adventure is where Unity shines. Running across rooftops and climbing historical monuments is the smoothest it's ever been in an Assassin's Creed title. However, you will be occasionally put to a full stop by a 10 cm ledge or get stuck on a chair in a house you're trying to run through.

The gameplay is simple, with melee combat providing very satisfying finishers like in the other instalments of the series. Combat in small spaces, like corridors or rooms can be annoying as You will struggle with the camera and tank hits because of it.

Overall, I think the game is a bag of mixed feelings. However, even if You take all the negatives I've mentioned, I think the game provides enough great content to be worth a play. Unless You're only interested in playing through the main story, and if so then You might finish pretty damn disappointed.

Newfound openness of Assassin’s Creed demonstrates just how inadequate its AI really is for a stealth game: pampered nobility usually simply ignores a bloodied body on the dance floor, and guards don’t care much either. At least they’ve learned how to fight: unless you “cheat” with smoke bombs, it’s highly unlikely you’ll survive a melee against a group. [Jan 2015, p.62]

As I write this, Assassin’s Creed: Unity is a bugfest, but technical problems, however annoying, can and probably will be fixed. It is not cracks in textures that it is the most worrying thing about Unity, but the cracks in game design and writing.
