I think this game was actually pretty good. Over 1000 negative reviews is just weird. Doubt these people even like Assassin's Creed.

    Cannot believe so bad rated.
    I've got a 3yo PC with ATI 8750 and it's working well...
The story is good, the secondary mission nice and the coop are fun... and you can discover paris in wounderful 1800 reconstruction... for me ACU is a very good surprise after AC3 and ACBF...

And when you look at the marble walls the lights sparkle off the tiles. The chandeliers alone are worth the price of this game. Each room is so sumptuous and gorgeous I have spent lots of time just wandering looking at art. I am not even progressing the game much because now I am just walking around the town marvelling at the buildings. All those NPCs speaking French make me feel like I am there. The detail is stunning. The gameplay is secondary. Sure, that hasn't changed much from AC1. But that isn't the point. This game is a work of art. I can't wait to get to Paris. Expand

I always was a massive fan of AC series, mistakes or not. But after some weird parkhour in Brotherhood and crazy low boston fps in AC3 (had core2quad@3ghz back then) this is by far the worst. Not only it takes all the bad thigs from those earlier titles, moving dynamics are even worse, sluggish and weird. This was clearly developed for gamepad and no energy was spent for mouse+keyboard adoption. You really need 60fps, on locked 30fps (like on consoles) your mouse lags massively! Missions can get on your nerves at times, but the worst thing is you have no checkpoints at some harder stealth missions (read on for this):

On older titles you tried many times to see what you can do better or where your mistakes cost you the most. And it was fun at least. This? No mistakes or you never finish your mission. Just stupid. This is the first game in more than 20 years to actually fry my nerves and wanting a button to just skip a mission for a later time! Not because it's hard in a good way, but because it sucked the fun out of me. In the end I just finished the main story on easy as quickly as possible and deleted the game.

It's an undeniably beautiful game, if your PC can handle it (it's a bit of luck I suppose combined with good hardware) The graphics are a marked improvement over the previous game, but I was running at pretty high settings. The game goes back to the more classic AC style; running around a gorgeous city rather than the dullness of colonial American architecture or the Caribbean. With the addition of the interiors of many buildings, it really does feel more immersive.

The story gets off to an interesting start, the main character, Arno, is the son of an Assassin, who's father is killed is then taken in by a Templar and raised with his step sister; Elise. The story is primarily focused around assassinations, each sequence being quite short (there's 12 of them) and most involving one of the excellent assassination missions, which there are a bucketful of ways to approach each one, a couple of them having unique kills and all of them having tens of ways to infiltrate the area. These are the highlight of the main story. The ending is rather lackluster, it could have been implemented much better. The rest of the story however is exciting and while I was playing it I couldn't stop myself going for the next mission. I constantly wanted more. I still want more. Another downside is if you enjoy the modern day story, there isn't really much of it.

The side missions are rather good, there's hundreds of them seemingly, I haven't got through them all yet. The "Paris Stories" are the main ones, where you follow mini campaigns of citizens of Paris, solving their problems (which mostly involves killing people). There are also social clubs, which provide you with 3 missions each, each offering a cash reward, some very small, some very significant. Again, mostly these revolve around killing people.

Onto the coop mode. It worked most of the time for me, on release day it was having some trouble, as UPlay was offline, but when it worked it was really fun. I was playing with randoms but it would have been much more fun if my friends played it, so we could have some kind of coordinated effort. Killing two people in sync though is as satisfying as it looks on the promotional material. It's a joy to play and the missions are actually quite long, and can be played alone if you're up for the challenge.

The new combat system is a nice refresher for the boring simplicity which has plagued the previous games. Weapon tiers actually matter now, increasing damage and the health bar is back from the Ezio games, and the kill streak function is gone, to make it harder for you to take on large sums of enemies. This makes stealth a much more important factor in areas with lots of guards. The smoke bomb function is a useful one, but it has been nerfed a bit so that you cant kill everyone just by dropping one. It's mostly useful for running away or surprise attacks.

The free running mechanic has been upgraded and it looks and feels smoother than ever. It's more refined with the addition of the downward parkour being wonderful, it feels really good when you get it right. The motions look fluid and the running looks excellent. Overall it feels a bit different to old AC games in the free running regard, a nice improvement.

Now for the micro transactions. Honestly, if nobody had told me beforehand, I wouldn't have even known that they were there. The top tier gear is quite expensive but once you have cash rolling in from Café-Théâtre, it really doesn't take that long to get the cash, no longer than the best gear took in AC:IV. The companion app is absolutely dreadful however, I have no clue how to use it after spending about 15 minutes trying to fathom it and then giving up, as is the AC Initiates crap.

In summary, if your PC can handle it, it's one of the best games in the series yet, despite its disappointing ending, I've still had the most fun in this iteration of AC than I have since brotherhood. It was a good decision to go back to the original AC formula, and it has worked very well. It's visually stunning, the architecture is interesting and there's plenty to do. It's absorbing and immersive, with interesting combat and excellent free running. I can't recommend it enough.

Besides, this game's way more than it's graphics. I haven't had the technical issues people are talking about, keep that in mind when you see I've given a high score.

first of all, this assassins creed is not about killing hundreds of enemies with a rapier without breaking a sweat. This assassins creed is about stealth, planning, and getting the better gear. Also, for once, the economy of the game is actually motivated. You're going to need that money to buy medicine, ammo, and new gear.

The city of Paris is stunning. I've been to Paris myself and they've really nailed the narrow streets, big squares, and the life of the city. Never before have I experienced an open game world so alive.

All in all, I love the new, more difficult, thus more rewarding crowd control combat. They've added some much needed free running controls. You are constantly rewarded for whatever you do in the world (similar to saints row 3). The downsides would be that it's difficult to find players for the 4-player missions. There are occasional graphical glitches that don't actually affect gameplay. "Stealthing" will initially be quite hard and you will probably die a few times, but this is why you'll spend so much time doing side missions to get the gear you want for your playstyle. The game could've been better optimised with fewer glitches, but this is a great game nevertheless. It's fun and it can played with French speech and English subs, which totally ads to the experience!

Not sure about frame rates (as long as the game doesn't look choppy I'm happy), but I am running all the graphics settings on very high and it looks absolutely stunning.

Gameplay wise I really felt a return to the earlier Assassin's Creed games in terms of missions, free-form assassinations and dense cities with plenty of climbing space. This was sorely missed in the blunder that was AC3 and AC4, which while a thoroughly enjoyable and stunning game, just didn't feel like assassins creed.

One thing I really like is the integration of co-op/multiplayer in this game. I am anti-social at the best of times and really hate games that push too much multiplayer on you, especially when opting out of it prevents you from finishing the game fully (*side-eyes most recent chapter of splinter cell*). In ACU the coop stuff is there if you want it, but you never really need to.

My only real gripes about this game so far are the usage of pay-to-win (let's just call a spoon a spoon) which I despise in any game (although kind of understand the logic as Ubisoft lost a ton of revenue to pirates, not the ACIV kind, who then go and give their games bad reviews because they cant get the game fixing patches), and the fact that Initiates was fully integrated into the game even though it is broken and has been since before ACIV.

All in all if you can run this game and like the earlier titles, this will be a great game, enjoy.

I do feel bad for all the users who gave the game a zero cause they dont have the hardware required to enjoy the game. People who say the game was rushed and not finished are incorrect. The game is just graphically beyond current hardware. You can qq about ubisoft not optimsing the game but the fact is the graphics are beyond anything elsecto date.

The music is perfect, the story is decent but not epic by any means. Combat system can be frustrating at times but fun when you get the hang of the system. I would love to see ubisoft get the gameplay that shadow of mordor had to offer.

AD:Unity is a return to the franchise roots and an improvement in almost all areas. Paris is stunning with sharp, beautiful graphics and art design. Missions area mix of old a new with a renewed focus on what the franchise is about: Assassinations.

Sometime when you play this game, you can feel the brilliance of design, work put into it by hundreds of people around the globe over 4 years of development.

Too bad that all this work is undermined by corporate greed and impossible deadline. More than Watch dogs, this game would've benefited greatly from having a 3-6 month delay. There are no game-breaking bugs, but glitches are abound with people reporting falling through the map, obnoxious pop-in and other issues.

The PC optimisation, though it surprisingly good. This game is meant for next-gen, therefore people not being able to run in on older graphics cards with less than 2Gb of RAM should've expected trouble. This is a reality check for those people who thought their PC was as good as a new-gen console: in most cases it is not. The shared VRAM in consoles is something the PCs will never get and if your card and system memory do not have at least 4Gb each dedicated to gaming, there is nothing the optimisation can do.

So all that's left is a good PC port of a great game, unfortunately riddled with minor glitches which make the experience less enjoyable as it could've been. It is a solid 8/10 and considering the lack of truly bold visionary games this year, it is a contender for Game of the Year.

If you have a decent configuration, you should try this game on PC. It is a return to form for the series from the conceptual point of view and unlike, for example, Rome 2 Total war which had both technical and gameplay issues, here we're talking about a truly next-gen experience, well thought out and polished, with bugs, most of which will not live for a month.

(This game is not 10/10, but I will give this score to offset just a little bit the amount of hate going on. )

I waited for this game ever since the first announcement and I would check on updates everyday. This game has a very good storyline and I like how it feels like an upgraded version for the first Assassin's Creed, you have one hidden blade which is exactly like the first game, you have Arno which looks like a French Ezio and the graphics are amazing! I may play this game on the lowest settings and on 800x450 resolution with scaling but I can still tell you that the graphics is amazing because I don't really care about graphics alot, mainly I care about the performance and storyline. My laptop is a i5-3317u with 6gb ram and nvidia GT635M and I run this game at about 15-18fps with quite smooth gameplay. I would give this game a 10/10 if there weren't any problems but since I gave a 9/10, there is a problem. First of all, the performance, yes the performance, I have seen people with GTX graphics card reaching low fps and I know Ubisoft can do better than that. But the problem which made it 9/10 is the fact that this game has been worked around for 4 years and in the 4 years, Ubisoft has been busy making this game but still delivered a...well... poorly optimized game. Ubisoft, Alex Amancio, stop the microtransactions please. < Another problem stated. Now, my next problem isn't with the company but with people, most of them at the very least. Since technology and industries have gone bigger and bigger, people strive for AMAZING graphics, for AMAZING storyline, for AMAZING gameplay... yet all I see now are people complaining about unsatisfying graphics like 90% of the time. If it is graphics you're looking for, then why do you play these games? For entertainment? No, entertainment doesn't have anything to do with graphics, it's more towards storyline and gameplay. You play these games for... as I would say, art, not in the way where I would see. My art is about storyline, gameplay, playable decent graphics. I wouldn't mind having graphics like the first Assassin's Creed for AC Unity as long as I enjoy it. But your art is about beautiful, amazing looking environments, amazing looking characters, hair details, eye details, every single bit of texture is your concern. You do not care about the gameplay or the storyline, you care about graphics. And this is why companies are able to deliver poorly optimized game or even optimized games that doesn't even satisfy you. They worked their asses off to create games and yet all you care about is graphics(90% of the time) which is like less than half of what they want you to experience. They may tell you to visit beautiful Paris in the 18th century, they may tell you to explore the Notre Dame de Paris with beautiful details. But games like Minecraft, you enjoy them not for the graphics right? Then stop complaining please, I may sound like a butthurt person... well maybe I am kinda but seriously, companies deliver what you want them to deliver, companies only make games with amazing graphics because YOU wanted them, if you were like "I want an amazing storyline for the next game in the series", then they would decrease their work on the graphics and more into the storyline. Yes this game has glitches and bugs, but that's the risk you have to pay. I also seen reviews saying that this is a copy of the other AC games. And honestly, this brought me to the thought when someone(forgot who was it) that reviewed saying that Pokemon X and Y still feels like a Pokemon game...like wtf? How do want Pokemon to feel like? Like Call of Duty? Pokemons picking up guns shooting at people like GTA? No! Assassin's Creed games are third person, checked. They are about going back to history, checked. They have free roam, checked. The Assassins have hidden blades, checked. Assassins do parkour, checked. I don't want an Assassin's Creed game to be first person shooter, I want it like how it originally is. Like Call of Duty or Battlefield, it started off as a FPS and it still is a FPS. Games have their own respective types as I would say. I can't say more, I'm in lost for words a second ago and I thought I would be able to write down alot, well... If anyone who is reading this, just think of what I said and think of the future of the gaming industries and gaming itself. Expand

Now, as for the game itself... This is the first AC I've played and I'm enjoying it! The Graphics are awesome and the FPS is somewhere around 60 (40ish and glitchy with FRAPS running). I run everything on High or Ultra-High.

My machine is high end but, not ultra high end. I run a single R9-290 GPU and a 3570K with 16 Gigs of RAM.

Anyway, the game is pretty cool if you can run it and hopefully the other things will be worked out so more people can enjoy the game.

Does Unity have some bugs? Yes, but they aren't nearly as bad as some of these people would lead you to believe. They are the sort of harmless bugs I see in most complex open world games.

All I know is that Unity runs very well on my PC considering how amazing it looks. And I am enjoying the game immensely. The story is the best yet in the series, in my opinion. I'm drawn in and legitimately want to know what happens next. It doesn't hurt that the cutscenes are so gobsmackingly beautiful.

The gameplay is also the best in the series for me. The combat is harder and requires more skill and focus. I've actually died quite a few times in this game, which generally doesn't happen much to me in other AC games.

The traversal is generally much smoother and more refined this time. The animations are incredibly detailed and varied and there is a greater sense of freedom of movement. Sometimes when using the controlled descent mechanics your character will kind of float unnaturally sideways as he is descending, but that is the only niggle I have with the new mechanics. Being able to climb up, over and around things so fluidly makes me feel like spiderman. I also like the fact that you can now enter so many buildings and use them as pathways while traversing through the city.

Stealth has been improved dramatically. Finally we can crouch and take cover behind objects, which opens up all kinds of neat gameplay scenarios in the game. It's finally a proper stealth game. There is also a "last known position" mechanic, similar to that found in the recent Splinter Cell games, and it works well and allows you to use it to your advantage to attract and slip away from enemies.

The mission structure is a lot better and more flexible than in previous entries. You are given a certain mission, but it can dynamically change this time. You aren't stuck completing it only one predefined way. There is also a much greater variety of different side missions you can tackle in the game. It all makes the game so addictive.

As far as the visuals, all I can say is 'wow'. I can say without any hesitation nor hint of exaggeration that this is the best looking game I have played on PC. The lighting, shading and materials all look stunning. It's filled with detailed textures, volumetric smoke and fog, extremely detailed character models, the most realistic hair I've seen in a game, lots of neat shader work, and a host of advanced post effects.

So far it is easily the best game in the series for me and one of the best games I've played this year.

You don't even need to have played the last few, the plot can stand alone on its own. I'm definitely recommending it, especially since they've pretty much patched all the problems anyone was having, and are now offering the first two DLC's (which are huge expansions) for free. My system met the recommended spec (i5 + 970) and on max. settings (with TXAA) with decent framerates, ACU looks fantastic! The huge open world with thousands of unique and interactive AI NPC, is just so next-gen! This is by far the most authentic, living, breathing world I've seen in games. Everything just look so pretty! Thus, I'm not surprised the consoles can't keep up. Gameplay wise, I enjoyed the tactical stealth aspect of each assassination. It has a nostalgic look, reminiscent of the old Ghost Recon series. :) Other than the nonsensical storyline (& the sad ending), ACU is a eye-watering technical showpiece. Experience it!

I think the game looks great. I've had a little bit of choppiness on the cutscenes, but nothing that I can't ignore. Any ways enough of the soap box.

Even with the slow frame rate, the game looks stunning. It's massive too. The whole town of Paris to explore and thousands of NPC's on the screen at one time. It looks amazing. Especially when you climb to the top of a historic building like Notre Dame and it pans out to see the whole of Paris. There's also I smaller Versailles to explore with a few missions. This is where the story starts for Arno ( your character through out the story).

As for Gameplay. It's a little Difficult. They sort of fixed the parkour with you now being able to tell Arno to Parkour up or down with the press of different buttons. other wise he takes the "straightest" route. Arno doesn't always go the direction you tell him, but that may be because I still need to get used to the new mechanics. Combat is more fluid, but also more difficult. AI doesn't attack you one at a time anymore so you have to be really paying attention if you're going to play the berserker role a lot. There's also no cue for when they attack other than the animated motion of them attacking. Except for ranged they do have a crosshair icon. Stealth could be a little more refined. It's hard to tell sometimes if you're still in cover mode or not. Moving from cover to cover isn't always perfect either.

Customization. One word. Awesome. I love building my character gear around stealth. They only bad thing is the lack of color schemes. I would have preferred to have like a color wheel and get really custom colors of my choosing, but it's not the worse thing.

The story of course follows Arno. Not gonna spoil it, but it is another revenge story. Pretty similar to Ezio's story from AC2. It does well to keep me engaged, but I haven't played more than three of the sequences because the side quests are actually fun. Lots of things to do. You have lots of assassination missions. The murder mysteries are entertaining. Plus you get weapons and gear from solving the murders to help progress your character and the role you chose to play. Tons of things to do. There's also like a pub & inn place that you renovate for income which you can use to do more renovations or buy more gear for your character. Trust me you need the income for gear. the high end stuff is costly.

It's a lot of fun. Lot's of things to do. Could refine a few things, but all in all a game worth picking up. Especially if you're a fan of the series. Don't let all these nay sayers talk you out of it. But I do recommend some upgrades to your PC if it's been a while.

Everything else seems pretty good though, HBAO+ doesn't seem to cause that much of a performance hit, and very high textures doesn't either (although my card has 4gb of vram so that may be helping). The unstable frame rate while running through town that is typical with every AC game i've played seems to be a relatively non issue here. The fighting mechanics are much improved although they do take some getting used to. The story so far seems a bit generic but i'll post an update when I finish the game.

I do know that some are experiencing glitches. All I can say to them is to make sure they have the latests drivers and to disable SLI entirely to see if they still have problems. Another solution might be to disable 'Motion Blur' in the graphics options. Although I have a 5960X with a Palit GTX 980, I still think that players with less powerfull setups could easily manage to get the game going ...

But a very good CPU (at least a 4xxxK) should be used to play this game. Yes guys, read this well: mid-setups from 4 years ago are not going to give you a good framerate in this game. And a 4770K is not this good compared to a 3770K. Maybe you should go for a new PC if you have this type of setup as all future games are going to be very demanding on the CPU side of things. In fact, the main engines are evolving right now to match the new baseline enacted by cur-gen consoles. As such, the PC basic requirements are already evolving right now ...

Cons: Steep technical requirements at the time of this review. There is some innovation here, but there's also a lot of familiar territory -- if you bought an Assassin's Creed game and weren't expecting carry over of familiar gameplay, you bought the wrong game.

Note: At the time of this review, the technical requirements to run this game are steep. It appears to be purring along on a GTX 970, but having loaded it up on my prior HD 6950 card for comparison it brought the card to its knees -- If you aren't rocking current gen hardware, or planning on turning down the eye candy, I'd recommend you wait to check to see if patching will improve PC optimization.

Bottom line: Smoke 'em if you've got 'em.

With that aside (this should also tell you that I am not the biggest die hard AC fan, having taken a long hiatus), so far the game is quite enjoyable. I see that there is a lot of flak given to the optimization for PC sucking, which I fully expected, I am delighted to say that I am running 60fps 80% percent of the time. When I do get frame dips, its never below 40, so not really a big deal. For those wondering here are my specs:
i5 4670k Overclocked to 4.2ghz (I do have a master cooler CPU fan so that def helps)
    GTX 780 3GDRM

Anywho, Im not super far in the game, but i wanted to write this for those skeptical about getting it.. If you like AC, you'll like this game; if you don't, or have been getting tired of the AC franchise, then dont. But regardless, the fluidity of movement and parkour is drastically better than previous iterations, and the ambitious scope of the game is astounding. Combat has been improved and is definitely more difficult than before, but still not punishing to frustration.
My biggest beef with the game right now is the accents.. why British? The voice actors CAN speak French, and i cant fathom why they dont at least speak with a french accent.. is it so hard? I know this seems nit picky, but in a world that is so beautifully realized, it really does take you out of the immersion and the France locale.
Seriously though, I FULLY expected that the optimization would suck, but Ubisofts RECOMMENDED specs are quite accurate. If you meet the specs but were skeptical, go ahead and stop it, get the game, PM me and lets get assassinating!

Vsync disabled in-game but forced vsync through D3Doverrider or Radeon Pro boosts performance significantly and screen tearing is almost non-existing. My Resolution is 1440p on specs: AMD fx8320 clocked at 4Ghz, sli 770 4gb cards w/ 8gb ram. SweetFx enabled to improve graphics dramatically.
honestly, this game rocks! Performance and optimization is not great by any means but even running in the mid 30's fps, the game is very smooth. ** I have tested this game on a single 770 card at 1080p w/ max settings and i never drop below 35 fps with sweetfx enabled** so if you have a single card of equal performance to a GTX 770 4gb, running max settings @1080p is a reality you can expect with smooth gameplay.
Playing the game will make you understand why the performance is lacking even with a beefy PC. The graphics are unparalleled and the amount of detail is incredible! Hundreds of characters on screen, life like surroundings, lighting, reflections, shadows and tessellation effects like never before seen!
Gameplay is fun with new free running moves and fighting mechanics. Story is not mind-blowing but it is engaging. The environment is so incredibly well done that you will want to explore every inch of the world you are in.

I'm playing it on Core i7 4790K with Geforce GTX 970 (OC'ed to 1455/78000mhz) and 16GB ram and it works flawlessly (50-60fps) with everything maxed out except for antyaliasing which I set to FXAA because in this game it gives the best visual result (I know it's weird but it's true). In

In my opinion it's one of the best games of 2014, unfortunately really strong PC is needed to fully enjoy it, but Assassin's Creed Unity is a good reason to upgrade your rig. There are few glitches (like TXAA which looks worse than FXAA) but it's nothing that couldn't be fixed with a patch.

    With a 4790K & 980GTX this game is currently an 8.0/10.

When properly patched it can easily become an 8.5/10.

    45FPS @ 2560x1440 Ultra Ultra FXAA

Gameplay is more or less the same as every other AC title, weak story but fun gameplay.

I've paused for the 4th mission anticipating more performance with an upcoming patch.

doesn't deserve the rating it got. definitely one of the best parkour mechanics in the franchise, and the visuals. the main story is boring overall but missions make the game less boring.

The map build is very good and the history happens during the French revolution. I may be making a mistake, but according to my memory, this serie has a "classic romance" about the main characters, like "Romeo and Juliet": Templary's daughter and Assassins son - A forbidden love.

Newfound openness of Assassin’s Creed demonstrates just how inadequate its AI really is for a stealth game: pampered nobility usually simply ignores a bloodied body on the dance floor, and guards don’t care much either. At least they’ve learned how to fight: unless you “cheat” with smoke bombs, it’s highly unlikely you’ll survive a melee against a group. [Jan 2015, p.62]

As I write this, Assassin’s Creed: Unity is a bugfest, but technical problems, however annoying, can and probably will be fixed. It is not cracks in textures that it is the most worrying thing about Unity, but the cracks in game design and writing.
