This is not just how an Alien game should be made, this is how a horror game should be made. I've never been so at the edge of my seat while playing a horror game since FEAR, and that is saying a lot

    This game is a disaster.

Blank graphics, stupid stealth and idiotic mini-games (wait until you'll get to an observatory. Or better ditch the game before). Pros: it's a game in Alien universe. Cons: Everything else. Seriously, we had a space horror game before. It was called Dead Space. If this game (Alien: Isolation) was released 10 years ago, it probably will be a world hit.

    Nowadays? Meh.

Just one experience from the start of the game: I was able to sneak out from hospital from alien walking around in corridor. I've crawled to the door being few meters from alien, opened the door, shut behind me, walked two steps... and saw the same alien again. What's the frigging point of my stealthy crawling?

A few times alien did saw me, like it turned right to me when my head was sticking in plain sight in open space... and nothing happened, it went to do it's chores of cleaning dirty air ducts.

Second major disappointment - designers avoided placing mirrors across all the game. However you'll have about three times where you're about to put up the space suit and player got the helm with reflective surface in her hands... Guess what? You ain't reflected there, it's like you're a vampire walking around.

And for the top comment "Visually beautiful, creates a sense of actually being in the Nostromo"...
Guys, really? This game is not about being in Nostromo. During the course of the game you'll _never_ be in Nostromo. Did you ever play the game?

Good thing main station was named a Sevastopol. It's kinda symbolic, using name of site of major disasters, where russians had to sink their own fleet.

Overall experience - you've managed to waste an extraordinary potential. Good luck with that.

Good graphics, good sound and music and a very nice theme, aliens movie.

The gameplay is nearly perfect, the only problem to me, too hard.

I remove one point for some problems with the save system, also said glitch and some other bugs and weird stuff that I can't talk here because it's a spoiler. Also, it look like a dumb port, the menu suck.

Truely a faithful recreation of the Aliens Universe. This isn't trying to be a shooter, this is about survival, evading the alien, and the occasional working Joes and other humans as well. Some people might be expecting an action shooter when even when it was announced they clearly stated its a survival horror game and not a shooter. So please don't down rate the game simply because it's not Call of Duty. I'm glad Creative did a fantastic job with the game. This is defiantly not Aliens Colonial Marines. Play it on hard difficulty, thats how its meant to be. The visuals, while not on the technical level of Crysis 3 or Metro Redux, are really beautiful, creating a fantastic atmosphere.

About the mixed reviews I can only say that I take it the negative reviews are people that were trying to rush through it and couldn't deal with the unpredictable AI or simply the fact this is not a generic CoD shooter game. For fans of the Alien movies or suspense horror games this a 10/10 and absolute must-have.

Isolation, graphically impressive and that is it. You will run down empty corridors, sometimes with a few enemies, sometimes with nothing, collecting crafting items for new gadgets to fend off enemies, yet these gadgets do not need to be crafted as the A.I. is bad. That "unpredictable" Alien A.I.? It's very predictable, I played on Hard and stood right in front of it, it didn't register, in fact the only time it did register is when it found another A.I. or I had to shoot it.

The level designs are just loops of circles that are confusing, to make it worse you have the most obscure way point system there is. Speaking of systems the save system is something that died back in the late 90's. You must manually save (no problem there,) at checkpoints (problem there.) There are 18 chapters, each chapter takes over an hour to complete, that is over double the length then the average game, something people would not speak out about, but when you get this linear and this boring there's a limit.

The story can be covered in one sentence and the play time is horrendous, 12 - 20+ hours of running down the same hallway to open doors. By hour 6 I was so bored I was done, I could not take a single second more. There is nothing to drive the player forwards. What's the point of going to open a door that you know is not only locked, but you'll have to turn on the power and restart the terminal as well.

I think I know why this rated so high, and that's because Metacritic DELETES REVIEWS! Yes this is the SECOND time I've had to rewrite a review because of silencing, here's hoping they will leave this one up because God forbid someone doesn't like a game.

The story is utterly compelling primarily being based off the original Alien but also taking cues from Aliens, Alien 3 and the more recent Prometheus. You genuinely feel like you have entered this universe, which is a testtment to the writer Dan Abnett.

The gameplay is ferociously difficult (I'll be honest, I had to switch down from Medium to Easy), but you do become better as you play. It is also varied, you will go through some utterly spine chilling moments against the alien, but then are giving space to breathe with some pauses with humans or simply puzzles to resolve. At its best this game is the scariest thing I've ever played.

Before buying I was nervous from the negative IGN review about level re-use and backtracking, but this is a complete red herring. You do re-visit some areas but the environment has changed and you can access different areas. How this can be seen as a negative is utterly beyond me. The levels you play are all incredibly rich and varied, not once did I feel fed up of returning to an area. Even in classics such as System Shock 2 it was sometimes tedious to go back, not here.

Visually its spectacular and performed well on my Radeon 7850 at ultra settings. It is hard to explain without actually playing it how effectlvely they capture the Alien universe. For me this has raised the visual standard for other games. The lighting is particularly impressive.

Alien fans will usually look back to AvP1 and AvP2 on the PC as being the high water mark for games, this is finally a worthy successor to these games.

Alien Isolation is the Alien game we have always wanted but never received. Completely removing the typical FPS "Guns Blazing" style and instead going with the full stealth game play is just what this genre needed. Beautiful environments mixed with tension building music and scary enemies created the perfect atmosphere. Definitely worth the purchase.

The bad: can be a bit difficult (although you shouldn't feel shame in playing on easy if needed). Can be a bit stressful (I couldn't play Amnesia because of this, but I can this game). There is no hand-holding, you have a map with markers, but a lot of times you have to think to find your way (it's intentional and well done though). Cinematics are sometimes a bit lacking in the visual department. Character animations are not the best.

However I was only able to get 4 or 5 chapters in before I was annoyed into quitting. The game had devolved into one long stealth mission. Which can be good when done right, I loved the Thief and Hitman franchises and the accomplishment of working through your surroundings to accomplish your goals. But in Alien there really wasn't much to DO other than creep from one side of the room to the other to go to the next macguffin. By the time I quit, the opponents were cyborgs and the namesake Alien.

Cyborgs are slow and slow-witted, more an annoyance than a proper enemy. I spent a lot of time sneaking past them, but realized it's just more effective to run past them and get to your objective. They have very uneven levels of intelligence, sometimes you can duck under an open table and they can't find you sitting right in front of them, sometimes you can hide inside of a closet after losing them around several turns and they just b-line straight to your closet, open it up then beat you. Just... so annoying and dumb. So maybe I'll try and take one out? Oh, I unloaded all six shots of this revolver into your face and it didn't matter? That's great. Why do they even give you the pretence of holding a weapon?

Then there's the Alien. Once he joins in, the never-ending stealth mission now has frequent random losses where he appears from nothing and stabs you for instant death. So you end up creeping along very slowly to make less noise which helps a small amount, except now you're moving so slowly he'll just wander over you and kill you because apparently he wants to kill you more than everyone else combined. So it's a slower, more boring death that takes way more time to get to. Despite the hugeness of the station there's never a moment where this #*(@ is more than a room or two away from you. Why is he camping my character specifically? How is he able to always be around me even if he can't find me while sitting under a desk the same room? Do I have some sort of Ripley connection to the monster that makes him so much more interested in me than everyone else? What was I supposed to know to avoid these obnoxious instant lose surprises? Why do all doors open automatically if you're on their half of the room, announcing to the Alien that here you are, please kill me now? How is any of this avoided? How long does it take for him to leave a room when you're hiding in a locker? 5 minutes? 10? He just endlessly keeps pacing back and forth in front of you, prolonging this failed attempt.... ugh.

So between dumb, slow and pointless or dumb, fast, magnetically attracted to your location and instantly game ending, the enemies are not satisfying to work against. Tension gives way to frustration which gives way to annoyance. Plus the game ONLY saves when you specifically go to a save terminal. You will have all your progress rewound to the previous zone if they don't give you a save point in a sensible location before your next alien one shot death. If I had to describe this game in one word, it would be "annoying". Lots of potential, lots of atmosphere, but the game just isn't fun or satisfying to play.

Most of the story, just like many first-person games, is told by Amanda Ripley's eyes, save for some cutscenes. As the game progresses, you get involved in the mysteries concerning the Sevastopol, its crew and survivors, and Amanda's mother fate. You get anxious and nervous every time you see the alien, but the fear easily goes away once you get the flamethrower. You're going to want to finish the game fast, since there are many long and tedious objectives, but you'll also get nervous and exhilarated when the alien shows up and when other climax scenes occur. The story also serves as an entree to newcomers, and also a reminder for enthusiasts to watch the movies.

Following horror games should follow Alien's example and create an involving atmosphere and a sense of anticipation. The Creative Assembly managed to redeem the franchise in video games and also serves as an example for other games. Alien: Isolation was definitely the biggest surprise of 2014 and will always be an unforgettable experience.

I would also like to comment on the heavily compressed, 30fps pre-recorded cut scenes, they are just horrible and laggy, whereas the main gameplay was super smooth at 60fps without a single drop on max settings, this is a common problem with console ports and cut scenes unfortunately.

The voice work, story and visuals were all good but the gameplay was just slow and boring and dragged on, plus there was one very length section that was frankly terrible, after Google'ng the area it's considered by most just an awful experience (not because it's hard, it's just long and dull), it was at this point I almost quit the game entirely. I will also applaud the overall atmosphere as it was good and very scary at times.

There are also a few mods available if you feel like changing some of the rules. One of them makes the alien completely ignore you, so you can venture around and explore. There is also a mod for unlimited pistol ammo, which is a lot of fun because shooting a gun attracts the alien.

The game loses 1 or 2 points because it crashes often. This happens to a lot of people, and nobody seems to know why it crashes. My computer is not overclocked, all of my drivers are up to date, and this is the only game I have a problem with. This can be enraging because I just spent about 20 minutes wandering around in some unskippable story bullcrap, and then the game crashed right at the end. By doing this the player's attention span and edginess lowers quite a bit, almost to the point of feeling empowered. This is where the brilliance shines, because just at the moment where you start feeling safe and strong, the game just tears you a new hole, and you can't even be mad about it, because you just blew your old one... If you like the atmosphere of the original film, don't mind investing a lot of time in a game, and dealing with some slow parts in the game, GO AND GET THIS GAME, it is awesome! And people talking about the Alien A.I. being unfair? I call hogwash! I finished the entire game without dying ONCE (my third playthrough) And no, you can't just learn the Alien's patterns, because it doesn't have any scripted patterns, it reacts to YOUR behaviour. AWESOME GAME 10/10!

Not scary at all. The AI is scripted all you have to do is watch them for a little bit and they do the same path. Example, when going to take the communications elevator you run in to 4 human bad guys and they look for you for a few minutes then they go to their scripted paths. When drawing one guy out by rewiring the speakers and then went and hid in a locker and the guy came lookedNot scary at all. Graphics are good light is not as good as they say. I thought is was boring as heck they should of made it more like the first Dead Space that game was scary but Aliens Isolation is a pass spend your money on a better game save it for the games coming out later this year and early next year. I don't think this is a very good game. Sure it can be creepy, the music is fine and the graphic it is amazing. But this feels way to much like a interactive scary movie, than an scary game

This game makes you crawl like a goddamn worm, in constant fear of being squashed. I was scared to leave the closet I was hiding in, because the monster was somewhere out there. [Dec 2014, p.68]

The Creative Assembly’s game, however, is cooked; left to boil so long it loses all flavor and texture. For 10 hours, Isolation is one of the best horror games ever made, until a second, poorly made game bursts out of its heart.

Alien Isolation can be frustratingly difficult at times, but nevertheless it’s easily the best game in the Alien franchise since the original Aliens vs Predator. The fact that the game mimics perfectly the 1970s look and sci fi stylings of Ridley Scott’s Alien film makes the experience even more endearing. By featuring absurd number of “surprise” twists, Alien Isolation’s final act could’ve used some trimming. [Nov 2014]
