IT IS JUST SO GOOOOD. Nothing else in the series made me feel original aliens vibe so well. The visuals, the music and sound design. If you like this franchise then you have to play it. The fact how scary and fun at the same time this game can be is another topic.

The game is complete, but sometimes you get the feeling that you missed a save point somewhere and have to do a whole lot of backtracking again. but that also gives you the opportunity to do stuff in a different way.

From the outset it's obvious that the production standards are set at a lofty height. The art (both visual and audio), is fantastic, and are intimately faithful to the original Alien film. The atmosphere is crafted to perfection - no cheap jumpscares here. The constant threat of the Xeno produces a level of fear and tension I've never experienced in a game before.

If you're part of the ADD twitchy FPS generation, this game is not for you. Prepare to spend a lot of time crouch walking, scavenging for supplies, and hiding in lockers (!!). The story is not deeply engrossing, but the hark back to the Alien universe of old makes for a memorable experience. In an age where the multiplayer component of a game is often the core focus, Alien Isolation really nails the campaign.

From a mechanical standpoint, this game is well-built. I am playing at 2560x1080 with all settings maxed on a pretty old rig (Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, but with a newer Radeon R9 380 4GB). I get a near constant 60fps, which is stellar. I would say that the AA algorithms are not great, as there are still visible jaggies with settings maxed. I also encountered a few ♥♥♥♥ling bugs, but these were usually solved by reloading or restarting the game.

After the disappointment of Aliens: Colonial Marines, and AVP (2010), this game was barely on my radar. To say that I am pleasantly surprised by it would be the understatement of the century. I think Alien Isolation has earned a spot on my list of all-time favourite games. I highly recommend that you play this game...

You'll never look at a ceiling vent in the same way again...

It has one of the best game optimizations I've ever seen. Even on my old PC I was able to play it on ultra settings and it looked fantastic!

How scary is it? Well, I alt+f4'd a few times. It is INDEED very scary. I couldn't play more than 2 hours per session as this game is very stressful. The sounds, the atmosphere, the Alien, the Androids and more! I also loved the retro style. The UI and computers in game this design.

Gameplay. Great... until the flamethrower part. I understand that at some point it'd be boring to hide all the time but flamethrower is too overpowered in my opinion and it ruined the other half of the game. You aren't afraid of the alien with such weapons, you can just scare it. But I loved other equipment such as noisemakers and EMP mines.

    So, let's sum it up.

    Is it scary? - Absolutely. - 10/10
Gameplay - Gets a bit repetitive closer to the end - 7/10
Environment - It looks like you're really in the Nostromo - 10/10
    Graphics - Beatiful - 10/10
Sound - This is probably the scariest aspect of this game lol - 10/10

All the gameplay is about hide and seek. We try to avoid alien becouse even if we're well armed, we still don't have a chance to fight alien back. But it's good. We can feel that horror what Ellen Ripley did, empathize in climate of an amazing first alien movie.

All of it is packed in one big gift for "alien" fans. Sometimes we can even hear music from the movie. For me it is a Alien game i was always waiting for.

Excellent game...even 18 months after release. It's worth picking up in a bundle with all the DLC. There is a bit of inconsitency in the cutscenes, but they add to the growing intensity of the game wonderfully. My only issue with the game is that it does end with a few loose ends. With a sequel still not certain (but not ruled out), here's hoping they find a way to tie up the loose ends.

We've all been waiting for years for that one Alien themed game, that would actually respect the original movie. True, we've got Aliens vs predator games, as well as Aliens: Colonial Marines, but none of them captured the atmosphere of the first Alien movie from 1979, and made you afraid of the xenomorph. Is Alien: Isolation that game?

The story follows Amanda, the daughter of Ripley, as she tries to find out what happened to her mother. The game takes place on a station in space, called Sevastopol, located in relative proximity to where Ripley disappeared. Prior to Amanda coming to Sevastopol, a xenomorph is brought to the station by another ship, and starts killing people. The station looks great, shading, textures, art direction, it's all there, and it sounds great too, very faithful to the original movie. As Amanda, you need to survive, as well as to find any clues about Ripley, and the Nostromo ship. The main gameplay mechanic is avoiding, hiding, or running from the xenomorph. This is done well for the most part, the xenomorph is not constantly present, but when it is, it really puts you under pressure. In addition to the xenomorph, there are humans, as well as androids, in your way. Androids are slow, but strong, and humans are weak, but carry guns. If you make too much noise while dealing with those, the xenomorph will appear from the vents. You can use this as an advantage, to get rid of your opposition, or it can turn against you. You may also craft and use certain gadgets, as well as weapons, to help with such encounters, although the xenomorph can not be killed, just repelled. It's a good balance of stealth and occasional action, and if the difficulty is set right, the game won't be unfair, or frustrating.

The game isn't perfect, though. Menus are a bit clunky, there is a small number of occasions set up so that the stacks are really against you. The game falls apart a little bit in the last third, as the encounters start to drag on, and there's a lot of backtracking. There are some questionable story decisions towards the end as well, and the ending isn't satisfying.

To sum it up, Alien: Isolation is the game we've been waiting for, a true Alien themed survival horror, that does its best to recreate the feel of the first movie. It's not perfect, but it's a must play for every Alien fan.

Alien: Isolation is a game that became a game of torture and dreadfulness (as you trying to stop a really hard to be killing machine from biting your frontal lobe all the way to the sensory strip [oh and it'll eat much more than your brain). It sparked up in 2014 and was played by many new and old Alien fans. I first saw game-play of this game back in 2015, but to me it just looked like some complex sci-fi game that wouldn't bestow any major threat. Boy was i wrong. Jump to spring 2018, and there I was buying the game with a bought $20 Steam gift card. The game's originally like $39.99 but I got it during the Alien:Isolation sale. I could have bought the DLC's that were also on sale but I didn't want to buy too much because I mainly bought the game to see if I would become intrigued. I wasn't into Alien, but I knew what the xenomorph was. The beginning of the game was something of a decent story. A ship of 5 sets out to find something they all seek, Amanda's being to get the nostromo flight recorder. On the way to retrieve the recorder, the people on board the 5 boarded ship (torrens) notice that the station (sevastopol) holding the recorder was damaged and so was the parking bay to park the torrens. Amanda, and two other comrades, Taylor, and Samuels head toward sevastopol in space but are separated onto the station after a huge explosion. Thus begins the game's true face of horror. The first few enemies are just standard humans and some small yet memorable run-ins with the alien and then robots, AND THEN come's the xenomorph's might of murder towards Amanda Ripley. That's what most of the rest of the game is:Amanda's attempt to find Samuels and Taylor while also attempting to escape the station as humans, droids (Working Joes), and above all the Xenomorph attempt to kill Ripley. But the people that made the AI and sound and feel production did the greatest at making the game a realistic horror. The fact that just one Alien can scare me so much makes so surprised and intrigued. The game even has throwbacks to the original Alien which I had to learn off of the internet. Thanks Internet! :)
Also just a short little thing so you can see who hates who if you ever wonder.
Enemy Survivors will fight against Working Joes, Allies, and the Xenomorph

I also really enjoyed the gameplay and pacing during the first half of the game. The hiding mechanics are nice, AI of the Alien is really nice, tension and horror does not just consist of jump scares in a row

The Only thing that bothered me quite a bit is that after the first half of the game, the climax of the story was reached and waited to be resolved, but the game actually went on for several hours longer without adding much of gameplay elements or story bits. These parts were still enjoyable, just felt a little bit of.

Alien: Isolation is an extremely gripping and atmospheric game that also has a satisfying, solid story to back it up. The Alien franchise is a perfect franchise to make a survival horror game out of and Creative Assembly has shown that to be true. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is the ultimate survival horror, it is creepy, scary, visually beautiful and almost perfect, take my hands to the fire for it. I think this game and RE 7 are the real games that saved the genre. The story is good, real good. The game doesn't have any bosses, the alien is an almighty being and helps to keep the afraid and tension fueled up on the entire game. The available weapons are perfectly usable for a survival horror game. Amanda is too weak, but all is about the genre issues.
This is not an action game, it can't be compared with some of that.
All i can say is this is an awesome horror game. A great one for the fans of the survival horror or the Alien franchise, not a deception like the Mikami's last adventure, The Evil Within, that is very cuestionable when we talk about that kind of game. I can compare this game with Silent Hill 3, and I assure this is in tie wih it. The advantage that this game takes with the Team Silent's game is graphic, almostly and playable obviously, . But Silent Hill 3 takes the WOW advantage. A great game that must to be played, and this is the best part, it is in the Xbox and PC gamepass.
This game is real good, and doesn't have any defects, the nine grade is because simply and impossibly there are best games in the genre, the only one that it cames to my mind is, for sure, the crown's ultimate jewell, Silent Hill 2. But if you want to play something ike that, you can prove Alien Isolation, I'm not gonna tell that is the most creepy and scary game in the market, but is true, it's the survival horror of the decade. A very underrated jewell.

Alien Isolation - '' A horror game like an alien movie? ''

So when it comes to this amazing game why is it so impressive. The first thing I would like to talk about and what surprised me the most was AI (Artificial Intelligence). The best AI is alien because he is so smart that you will not cheat on him and run away so easily. He feels so sure to be a real alien because it was the most fun to play. Speaking of another bot (AI), I wouldn’t say the best unless the androids, and the worst were the people themselves because they sometimes felt very stupid. Now talking about the sound quality of the game which interested me a lot, but I don't know for me, it was the first game where I heard which side the enemy is coming from and where it is. The sound quality of the game is so great that you felt like in reality in that game, even the weapons themselves felt real. What I of course also liked was the guns they really didn’t feel so cardboard, of course there were few of them, but they were really enough. The very beginning of the game of course starts really boring especially as you are playing this game for the first time without knowing anything you can really get lost in this game and not understand what is going on here and what I do here (I really recommend watching this game practice on YouTube). In this game, I experienced a lot of pretty jump scare, maybe mostly because there was so much action going on that I wouldn’t even say counting. As a horror game it is definitely worth it. Now talking about the story itself is so simple for you in this game you don't see a lot of cutscenes and a lot of chatter. So speaking of the Cutscene itself, they felt a real cardboard about the voice of the character himself so pretty simple what was most expressed in the voice of the character was the feelings. So the game itself was inspired by the movie and really did quite well especially with the aliens and the whole technology just the story itself wasn’t very deep. The gameplay of the game itself was really fun because we were fighting, hiding from the alien, participating in most of the tense action. The design of the game itself is pretty perfect, everything feels great. Okay now speaking of the same flaws and downs according to me the most dislike of most map it was very complicated and the level design it was so very similar to that detail all sometimes very confusing as with the map. And the bombs themselves were jumping too much, and it was hard to hit the enemy because like a thrower, the bomb would bounce on it and fly somewhere.

So in my opinion according to me the whole game is a perfect alien horror game as it incorporates into the action of the whole game so worth a lot of attention and worth buying, but the game itself is annoying that there is no practice and most things are very complicated. I would dedicate myself to this game 9/10.

The plot and lore is good although some events are quite forced and the end is anticlimactic.

The game core mechanic is the Alien chasing you while you try to avoid it, hide or use something to scare him. The Alien is really smart and fast doing so, what makes you stay always stressed and feeling in danger.
The game difficulty is quite high, specially at the beginning when you don't have any way to get rid of the Alien.

There are several sections forcing you to go back and forth from long distance to switch some controls that feel a bit forced. Are just there to make the game longer and increase the difficulty.

The most frustrating thing is when you expend 15-20min opening closed doors, accessing terminals, activating switches, ... while avoiding/fighting the Alien and suddenly you are killed by him. Then you need to start over again from the beginning as there are few save points and usually are in the beginning of the chapter.
Anyway I need to say that without this mechanic the level of pressure and stress will not be the same so the game will feel more casual.

The alien can appear almost any where if you make to much noise. You also risk attracting hostile human NPCs. Get both in the same room and you have a real mess.

Casual gamers will have some difficulties adjusting to the constant switch in tempo of gameplay, but they should endure because it's a worthy experience. The Alien can get a tad predictable sometimes, though that does little to lessen the tension it inspires with its very presence. The crafting system is a little clunky, sure, but it serves its purpose. I feel that some areas, especially near the beginning, are somewhat "cheaply claustrophobic" and can be frustratingly difficult to pass, even by sneaking, because there's barely any room to outmaneuver the Alien, but that's just me. There are a few instances when the game runs less than admirable, some lag, weird artifacts, though that just might be an issue of my laptop's technical prowess. I've also had some weird script issues, like an objective not activating properly, and some other stuff i can't remember atm. You should try it, if you can, before you decide on buying it. Not because of what it is, or how it plays, but because it's obviously not for everyone.

Me, I recommend it wholeheartedly. It's awesome.

It has everything from unsettling silence; hiding while fearing for your life; running for your life; jump scares; fear from different threats such as the slow patrolling packs of men, unrelenting machines, and the often clever alien. Its an incredibly long game for a triple-A story-based title (about 25 hours compared to the usual 8-15), and while I don't necessarily see that as a good thing, its not nearly taxing. In fact, since there are basically no Triple-A games that do the 'hiding from intelligent hunter' mechanic, especially from a single AI hunter, the gameplay length is definitely welcome.

However, the story rarely has any context or complexity, and the actual ending is precipitated by one tease after another. The exit is usually completely obliterated right before you get to the end anti-climatic and invoke Murphy's Law in an almost comical way. It's like, your ID card needs to be refiled, or a ventilation shaft connecting to your escape ship needs to be repaired.

The final ending scene is horribly uneventful, makes no real sense, and is just there for a sequel placeholder. Despite the fact that I enjoyed the gameplay, I'd rather not have a repeat of this very long and repetitive game. In any case, the ending is so poorly thought out that most of it is done with TWO-DIMENSIONAL ANIMATION. What? The rest of the game used 3D cutscenes. They must have run out of budget by the 24th time your escape didn't work out.

The gameplay was good, the set design is very Alien franchise, but don't expect much from the story beyond some filler logs.

The most important thing to understand about this new entry into the series is it's radical shift in gameplay design from those of which were, by an large, iterations on the same gameplay first experienced Doom. And it was with no surprise that the franchise was going to take this well trodden path as the sequel to the original film in the series was John Carmack's main inspiration in developing Doom.

By diagnosing the main problem with one of videogames most popular genres The Creative Assembly have opted to make the player feel as vulnerable as possible in order to instil a genuine sense of dread and tension throughout the game. The game doesn't allow players to horde backpacks full of guns and ammo but instead forces you to use any meagre gadget you can concoct in order to distract your enemies as opposed to mowing them down with little cost to your resources or safety. There are guns introduced later in the game and surprise surprise here in lies one of the games strange inconsistencies with the Alien cannon and potential flaws in it's gameplay.

After a slow burn introduction to the Sevastopol Station, a crumbling space port in it's last stages of being decommissioned, the game starts out incredibly reminiscent of Bioshock allowing the player to venture in at their own pace discovering computers containing personal logs by Sevastopol inhabitants and audio recordings that help to organically deliver the narrative element of the game. Once further into the Sevastopol and the main elements have been introduced the gameplay really takes off with the Alien and other enemies all working together to create a wonderfully organic emergent gameplay style that is never scripted and always seems unique throughout repeat playthroughs. And repeat playthroughs of invidual missions will become commonplace to even the most seasoned and skilled players as The Creative Assembly have done something truly amazing with the AI of it's titular enemy by designing it to work with heightened sensors that enable it to respond dynamically to sound and situations as opposed to being moved on predetermined paths with basic AI programming. In short this game is **** HARD!

The look and feel of the game is stunning, albeit it with a minimal amount of dodgy cutscenes, poor human facial animations and shader aliasing problems, as the lighting and graphical fidelity convinces you that you are in world of Alien, one of cinemas most stunning and meticulously designed films. The Alien's design and animations are far beyond anything I've seen in any game and it's clear where Sega have really channelled their money opting, with minor cost to less vital parts of the game, to really bring the Alien to life.

However there are some problems with the game, although minimal, and these are down in large part to the second half of this massive game. When I say massive I can tell you it must have taken me over 25 hours to complete the game on Normal difficulty on a very explorative playthrough and once the game reached the 15 hour mark for me, which would have been an ample length for a game of this kind, the Alien "goes on vacation" for the 3rd quarter of the game leaving you pining for it's return. Once the game finds itself without an Alien you are left to contend with the stations second most deadly entity, the Androids, who prove to be somewhat less fulfilling. The game also chooses to ignore some vital elements of the Alien's lifecycle introduced by James Cameron in the second movie which I feel are to it's detriment.

On the whole Alien: Isolation is one of the most tense and claustrophobic horror stealth games I've ever experienced and I heartily recommend to it to any and all that have even the slightest interest in horror and sci-fiction. Well done CA the Alien is finally back in town!

Because Dishonored 2 is irreparably broken, I gave up on it and picked up Isolation. AI is an outstanding homage to the original Alien movie. Everything feels authentic. It's visually one of the most atmospheric games I’ve played. Alien fans will definitely enjoy it. However, the meticulous, thoughtful and occasionally tedious gameplay isn’t for everyone. So COD and Overwatch players need not apply.

AI is gorgeous. It’s has some of the best set pieces I’ve seen in modern games, rivalled only by Metro 2033. The developer Creative Assembly faithfully recreated the lo-fi look of the original Alien. Sound design, lighting, and color contrast are thoughtfully used to create bleak, lonely, terrifying locations. A few missions are pure cinematic experiences which exist solely to immerse players completely in the Alien universe. Creative Assembly’s attention to detail is second to none. For those looking for a true Alien sequel, this is it.

The developers created a new game engine to precisely recreate the Alien universe. This was a huge and costly feat, but the results are stunning. Visually, AI rivals any current title. And the best part, it runs efficiently on most hardware. I maxed out all settings and cranked up supersampling. My GPU hummed along at 60% usage and my aging CPU ran at 70% all the while pushing a steady 60fps at 1080p. The only negative here is the obvious aliasing on certain surfaces. The game settings don’t correct this. Mods are available which effectively suppress jagged lines. I didn’t notice the problem too much.

Gameplay is challenging. AI doesn’t cater to run and gun players. It emphasizes exploration and patience. Supplies are scare, and the protagonist Ripley has limited capacity. So everything must be used sparingly, as if every item were Ripley’s last. In a few instances Ripley is forced to confront baddies. Players who conserved their supplies will fly thru these segments whereas wasteful gamers will struggle. In all other instances, baddies should be avoided. Enemy engagements are high risk, low reward scenarios. Whereas most fps titles stoke power fantasies, AI makes Ripley feel powerless at every turn.

IGN and a few other reviewer hated AI’s enemy intelligence. I don’t understand why. Most stealth games employ sentries with predictable patrols. AI’s dangerous alien actively hunts players. The monster can’t be killed, and mistakes are instantly fatal. With a bit of patience and some trial and error, players can deduce the alien’s behavior and avoid it completely. I completed all but the last mission without engaging the alien once. During the final mission, I threw caution to the wind because I had a full arsenal at my disposal. That was on my first playthrough. People complaining about the relentless alien hunter are wusses who’ve been coddled by modern, insert-cinematic-here shooters. The alien pushes AI into a league of its own. Without it, AI is another stealth title. Not every game needs to be easy and hand out achievements just for playing.

Unfortunately, AI’s shortcomings keep it from greatness. Characters are forgettable. AI attempts to push emotional moments on players and they don’t stick. There’s no connection with the characters. The voice acting and video scenes are entertaining, but the story falls flat. Repetitive objectives compound the problem. Both faults highlight the writers’ lack of creativity. AI clones the Alien universe but doesn’t offer anything new.

The space station is massive, but too much of it is locked down. I was expecting a Metroid Prime-like experience. Although Ripley will backtrack in the second act, she won’t have the necessary equipment to explore sealed areas until the final missions. By then it’s too late. Paltry rewards discourage revisiting those sections anyway. Despite 20+ hours of gameplay, I left a lot undiscovered. Certain doors are inexplicably locked (or unlocked) until events or cutscenes are triggered, then they’re magically unlocked. I explored one area for 20 minutes looking for the “alternate route”. Sure enough, a door in a room I already visited unlocked itself after I confronted looters.

Lastly, AI overstays its welcome. The final mission throws a bunch of “oh $%*#” moments at the player, but they’re predictable and overdrawn. I just wanted it end. Once AI wrapped up, I felt unfulfilled by the ending and its obvious sequel baiting.

Isolation doesn’t appeal to everyone because its tough, methodical gameplay aren’t commonplace. Despite its flaws, AI is a superb game that remains underappreciated. It’s a must own for Alien fans. However, the repetitive objectives, underdeveloped characters, and fruitless backtracking hold Isolation back from greatness. If exploration were more rewarding and the story and conclusion more compelling, I would give AI a 9 out of 10.

I played through STALKER relatively unscathed and horror movies/games in general don't really get to me, but this game is something else. I think it's mainly because you have bad weapons, few resources and you're better off avoiding fights. The atmosphere (graphics, sound, level design) is outstanding and it creates a tension I haven't seen in other games.

The one thing I don't like are the fixed save points. I know it's to increase the immersion, but I hate losing progress.

One tip: When you switch on the power, it opens doors for the alien to attack you. When you leave it off, the alien sneaks up behind you in the dark. Either way, you're screwed.

If you don't see any more reviews from me, I died from a heart attack playing this game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When I started Alien: Isolation, I noticed the painstaking detail of the Torrens spacecraft which truly does look like it comes straight out of Ridley Scott's Alien. The voice acting was good, the sounds are amazing and stay true to the film, and the graphics and visuals are absolutely stunning. The second the Torrens spacecraft arrives to Sevastopol Station (where you will spend most of the game in), something doesn't seem right. The ship looks damaged and there is someone trying to contact you for help. You then find yourself on the station alone, and then you start to get scared. I thought the Alien was going to kill me the second I stepped in the ship. And this is where we get to the A.I. that the Alien has. The A.I. of the Alien is very good although it may sometimes bug out but most of the time you cannot predict which way the Alien will go and that is what makes the Alien truly terrifying. But the Alien is not the only threat on the ship. The other threats are people and synthetic androids called "Working Joes." As soon as I saw these things chills ran down my spine because I remember how Ash relentlessly attacked Ellen Ripley in the 1979 Alien. And when they do attack they are a chore to kill. It takes several headshots with a gun to kill one of them and many, many hits with a crowbar to kill. But when you get more advanced weapons like the bolt gun, they are easier to kill. But if they outnumber you, you are screwed. The bad thing about this game is that the Alien gets "killed" by Amanda Ripley about halfway through the game and the other half is fighting working joes which was a bit dissapointing to me. But, Alien Isolation is a great Alien game that we've all been waiting for. Expand

If you're looking for a shooter then you will be disappointed. This isn't colonial marines (thank god). The game is all about survival - sneaking around, crafting weapons/devices and dealing with your enemies in the smartest way possible. The shooting mechanics are cumbersome and difficult to get to grips with. You have to hold the right mouse button just to bring your weapon up and, with the revolver for example, you have to hold the reload button while you fill each chamber in turn. Shooting is to be avoided if possible. It's stressful. Reloading is stressful. It fit's with the style of the game beautifully because in Alien Isolation EVERYTHING is stressful!

You will spend most of your time hidden under desks, in lockers, behind crates, basically anywhere you can. The xenomoprh is, for all intents and purposes, invulnerable to the assortment of weapons/devices that you can find/craft and he scurries around in the air vents until something makes a noise and draws him out. You can use this to your advantage, making a racket to attract the alien and then hiding in a locker until he has finished off your human enemies.

The Alien's constant presence will turn you into a paranoid mess. You'll freeze when you knock a chair over, desperately scan the room for a place to hide in case he heard you. Catching a glimpse of him you might be tempted to run but flight is rarely the answer and the sound of him scurrying up behind you will genuinely send a shiver down your spine. It's terrifying stuff. The AI seems to be unscripted for the most part so each encounter will play out differently as you try to outwit the xenomorph with distractions and by hiding.

So, the gameplay is great (assuming you want to be scared crapless) and the game looks stunning too. The lighting effects combine with the volumetric mist/smoke to create a truly immersive environment. I particularly like the shadows cast by debris floating outside the space-station's windows. The depth of field effects when using the sonar are a lovely touch - you can focus on the scanner or on your environment, but not both.

After 5ish hours of gameplay I'm enjoying the story, though there isn't much variety in the level design and you will backtrack through the same areas multiple times. The puzzles are fairly straightforward but everything has that "futuristic circa 1979" feel which is true to the films. The save system is in keeping with the feel of the game - you have to use your ID card on payphones dotted around the map. The process takes a few seconds to complete, during which time you can look around, frantically in case an enemy is creeping up on you.

All in all, Alien Isolation is a great game if you're a fan of the films/the genre but don't expect it to be something it isn't.

Most of the story, just like many first-person games, is told by Amanda Ripley's eyes, save for some cutscenes. As the game progresses, you get involved in the mysteries concerning the Sevastopol, its crew and survivors, and Amanda's mother fate. You get anxious and nervous every time you see the alien, but the fear easily goes away once you get the flamethrower. You're going to want to finish the game fast, since there are many long and tedious objectives, but you'll also get nervous and exhilarated when the alien shows up and when other climax scenes occur. The story also serves as an entree to newcomers, and also a reminder for enthusiasts to watch the movies.

Following horror games should follow Alien's example and create an involving atmosphere and a sense of anticipation. The Creative Assembly managed to redeem the franchise in video games and also serves as an example for other games. Alien: Isolation was definitely the biggest surprise of 2014 and will always be an unforgettable experience.

Sometimes you re-play the same subpart of a mission over and over and over, because you cannot progress until you got to the next save station. The game is so well done that it does not need to cheat by trying to raise the suspance just by preventing save games. Or it could do so more smartly, e.g. allowing save games more frequently with the time spent on a mission subpart.

Most players shouldn't run into any performance issues, and it doesn't take much to run this game at a smooth 60+ fps, which is a bonus.

In most scenarios, the gameplay revolves around playing hide and seek with a plethora of neat gadgets at your disposal. Rewiring systems and weapons also add an additional layer of variety and tactics to the mix. The Alien itself is an intimidating enemy and one that brings about a lot of tension and paranoia, but I feel that encounters should've been less frequent to really extend the anticipatory anxiety and suspense. I also think that the game is too generous with resources. More often than not, I was fully stocked on all my gadgets. Running out of ammunition, medkits and batteries turned out to be the least of my worries. In a sense, this lessens the 'survival' aspect of the game and the resultant tension associated with it.

The game is generally well paced as well. I was glad to see that the game was sometimes willing to give a break with the Alien for a moment and introduce segments more focused on storytelling and character interact6ions. There were even a couple missions that seemed to focus more on combating androids rather than stealth. While this might disappoint some players, I thought it was a nice change of pace from the standard hide and seek gameplay mechanics. The exception to this are the last few missions of the game where objectives became a bit repetitive and tedious, with much backtracking and padding of the game length. I think Alien Isolation would've benefited from being a little shorter as it did overstay its welcome somewhat.

But the atmosphere in the game is great, and helped bringing the universe from the Alien franchise alive.

The sound and music are awesome too, but the voice acting is more of a hit-and-miss. Some characters have neat voice acting. Others don't, and, combined with the robotic animations, this kind of breaks the immersion. Happily, this is the only bad point.

I really liked the gameplay. I found it really challenging, and I like to be remembered that I would be dead in a horror story if I was there for real. And it is really hard to outsmart the Alien. Unfortunately, the human AI and the robots were so much damn stupid.

The story is nice too. If you really like the franchise, it may seem obvious at some points, and it is nothing amazing, but it is interesting, and kept me waiting to see what would unravel next.

Some people may also find this game a bit long, and, to a certain degree, I have to agree wih them. But the overall experience was one of the best I had in 2014 -and I think this might be my personal game of the year.

Perfection? Not quite. Whilst the game marvels with its infectious ambience and hair raising AI, it never quite manages to escape the extra terrestrial clutches of being quite irritating. Whilst it's non-AAA qualities allow for a game which is far from intent upon chasing the buying masses, it's insistence upon overstating the omnipotence of the Xenomorph, can leave you feeling like victory will (at times) fall upon little more than a lucky break.

The games pacing begins with aplomb, as you begin to question the presence of the chief villain far before its arrival and, at the same time, are lead into a perfect false sense of security as it finally appears to turn your nightmares into a living reality.

The following hours are spent with an understanding that thinking on your feet is a necessity, whilst scrunched eyes and screen-avoiding head turns are sure to be the only way to shun an alien AI which can be considered one of the most intelligent ever seen in a video game.

Of course, this is also one of the games chief problems. At times, the Alien AI is simply unstoppable. Were he to say jump, my only response would be to ask how high. And whilst a bevy of craft-able weaponry may seems like the perfect distraction for his hunting expertise, you can be left with the feeling that if the game wants you dead, there is very little you can do to prevent your inevitable demise
    .
But (and it is a big but), this is what makes Alien Isolation everything it claims to be. It really is the ultimate survival horror. Forget the overused simplicities of low ammo in a world of insurmountable odds. This is a isolated ship in which you are restricted in movement (thanks to a very well designed level structure), clouded in doubt (thanks to superb audio and nerve jangling flumes of steam), and fraught with fear (thanks to a single entity set upon pulling you limb from limb). Alien Isolation will keep you on edge, it will make you question your decision making and, above all else, will ensure that you are thoroughly immersed whilst doing it.

Reviewers have been fair in their opinions that the game drops off in the closing hours. By then, you have seen it all and done it all. A heavy dose of everything at once does little more than distract from what has (up to that point) been a battle of wits against singular foes. However, if you want an October of fear to lead you towards Halloween, Alien Isolation is arguably the best game to achieve that and one created to ensure that as you fall asleep at night, you will have sharp memories of the speed, power and terror of the mighty Xenomorph.

That said, enough freedom is provided to either backtrack or explore once you have obtained the necessary tools to unlock sections already covered. Doing this could be advantageous and recommended.

Various game modes are also provided placing you right in the action should it feel if the story is dragging a bit.

the fact that you're unable to kill the alien really enforces the play style. The creature is agile and incredibly fast. If you're seen, you know there's probably only a 1 in 10 chance you're going to survive. Despite this, you always try!

The only slight minor I would give the game is the Aliens navmesh... on a lot of occasions it felt like even though I hadn't been detected the Alien was simply 'hanging around'. However, this is a very minor concern.

Many of you are intrigued by the title, we all loved the movie, but gameplay is definitely love it or leave it. There is no in between, hence the negative reviews. Also you are pretty much forced into a 'no kill' run, which probably isn't going over well with the twitchy trigger fingers. Admittedly I would have preferred a no kill option I like to shoot stuff too, but I think developers were focused on suspense and it does work well. I'm still going to dock it a point for the reason, and walking( not running) grates on you after a while.

Overall, a stunning immersive experience. Graphics may look a little dated but it runs smooth, there is good detail, and very cool lighting effects.

The gameplay can become repetitive and at times even frustrating as you progress beyond the 12th mission with no end in sight. Playing on hard the alien is merciless which resulted in having to replay sections of the game, but its downfalls are mitigated by its success at creating a tensive and atmospheric environment. If nothing else, you know a game is good when IGN and GameSpot, et al. score it poorly.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Scary, for sure. Atmospheric, indeed. You're on what looks like the Nostromo from the outside, only this time, it's a space station. Even on the Torrens, the atmosphere is thick, and you'll find yourself looking up into the vents just to be sure that our 'friend' isn't hiding up there. Once on board the Sevastapol, you're immediately thrust into the unsure position of 'where is it hiding, and when will it attack me'. I have not yet met the Alien, aside from a cut scene video where you see a companion slain, and even then you only see it's tail as it is thrust through your comanpions torso, but I am playing at the novice level. I have heard it's telltale signs of being near, such as the music and some vent noises, and I was quick to hide or remain silent when that happened. It's quite the tense experience, and I'm taking my time, because I don't feel that this experience is something I need to rush. I also don't want to have a heart attack! I don't much care fro the save system, as you have no choices of save games, and the inventory system leaves much to be desired, so I took away two stars for those inadequacies. Other than that, it's a fine suspense experience, and you will likely be terrified at the prospect of meeting your demise at the 'hands' of the Alien. Expand

Even though developers seemed to aim to provide the similar experience, two important differences stick out. First, you will achieve little or nothing at all in AI by deploying offensive playing only. In another words, you cannot shoot your way out of the problem in this game. And, second there is higher degree of exploration freedom offered to the player, extending their operational area beyond just linear corridor. I picked those two examples of old games because; my perception of AI was that it will be similar experience. As it turns out, AI offers more, although some of the additional game mechanics may not have been done well enough to be considered a value. Before listing the weak part of the game, I would say that game is very true to the original Alien movie, which I think is the other main goal developers try to achieve. First, the environment is incredibly well done and detailed. This makes it very immersive, and invites exploration. Second, the character animations are superb and on level one would expect for game in 2014. Game is something between sandbox and linear action. It is goal driven, which is consistently changing based on the story development, nevertheless, it is still possible to venture outside the forward path and trace back your steps, or just explore area you missed before. Here is where one of the negative aspects of the game comes out. As mentioned before, the environment is incredibly detailed and offers multiple level of exploration. The problem is alien. Yes, this game is about Aliens and their presence is absolutely required, but the issue is that at one point in the game, Alien is constantly above your head, frequently making trips down to the floor to seek and destroy. This means that player will spend a lot of time hiding in the closet. Literally! This off course turns the experience into cat and mouse game, which I think is overbearing and distracting of the wonderful other experiences player, could have had. Devs try to mitigate this by introducing even lower difficulty settings where Alien spends more time dwelling in the sealing, and less on the floor where it directly impacts the player, but the essence still remains the same. What devs could have done instead is create oasis of different experience, such as humanoid opponents without Aliens or different level of challenges. The problem is that the game is not bad by any means; the problem is that at some points, it is very easy to quit playing because the joy diminishes quicker then what new level or task can provide. In the worst case, I have heard and nearly experience myself rage quitting, just because try to replay 20minutes of game over and over, tends to get very annoying, especially since there are more fun alternatives. That being said, and without the obvious Alien “stalker” issue, this could have been game of the year candidate. I really like the lack of offensive ability at most points through the game as well as limited save ability, but as said, the experience of leaving the movie is overtaken by experience of hiding. From my standpoint: Graphics =9 (with sweetfx with very little effort), Map and levels = 9, Game play = 7, Animations and movies = 9, Reparability = 6.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game, is truly outstanding, the mechanics, gameplay, and the atmosphere, overall, it was epic. Let me start a review on the gameplay.

The mechanics are very simple yet sometimes, it's kinda hard but not that hard. The crafting is useful for 'heavy situation' and the movement of the character is smooth.

The story is beautiful also, it gives a nostalgic effect when you watched it's film, the tense, the character, the survival, everything about it. No wonder I got few nightmares when I encounter 'black' creatures like insect or animals. However, the story is so long that you've wasted enough hours to play but if you're a big fan of Alien, you can finish this game in no time.

The graphic is amazing, the aliens, the character, the androids, everything about it. Last..

The creatures... Gosh, the creatures are magnificent, I remember one time when I was kid, I had a huge nightmare about this monster when I grew big and played this game, the nightmare, came back to my life again. Once you encountered this creature, I'm sure you're gonna stay in the lockers, vents, or anything that the creature won't find you and pray that the monster won't eat you, seriously..

This game.... Is truly amazing. I can't find the perfect word for it but I'm sure, you'll enjoy this game but be warned... Don't play this at night, that's all :)

Pros: Atmosphere, sound, graphics, story, the Alien, weapons.
Cons: Very long game; 20 hours to complete main story; pointless missions, and lots of backtracking.

The complaints others have made are valid: the alien AI is not unpredictable but rather artificial, always staying at your side. The inability to do key binding made game-play awkward and frustrating due to failure to find the right keys under stressful situations: I know I want to move over there and do x-y-z NOW, but I'm hitting the wrong keys! Ooops DEAD!
Still there are times when you can explore and loot, simply by keeping moving.
I'm not a fan of survival horror, preferring to have the ability to bring heavy firepower on the enemy. Who wants to be helpless? The alien will cringe when you aim the flamethrower at it, but that cannot be used to maneuver about a room and back away toward your objective, as it always closes the distance even though it should know a blast of flame will be forthcoming. In a way the alien is stupid, preferring to stalk and attack you, rather than flee a proverbial burning building. I don't think marauding insects are even that stupid.
Still the great elements outweigh the weaknesses of this game, making it highly recommended.

Well, this is a good game. And it's not just the alien, the synthetic also going crazy at you slowly approaching towards you and following you all around, and then even the humans shooting you every time they have the chance to... it's really an experience that has to be lived, it's definetely recommended. The problem with the game and that makes it a bit boring sometimes is that those situations do not occur as often as they should. Between those situations there's a lot of walking/crouching pressing "E" on several things without really any thing happening, and there are way too many saving points, I think knowing that you can die any time when you haven't saved for a long time makes it even more thrilling, but before almost every "dangerous" situation you always get the chance to save game giving you the sensation that you are safe, something that should never happen in a survival horror. In my opinion. Game Of The Year 2014! :)

Pros: - In all gameplay areas is on a good level of quality (Stealth improving the feeling from games like Outlast, very subtle but tense action, the crafting system similar to games likes The Last of Us and the backtracking, wich is not boring at all). - The game lenght (19 missions = almost "26 hours in Survivor" mode) - You get some weapons

    - The game lenght (19 missions = almost "26 hours in Survivor" mode)
    - You get some weapons but you're not overpowered at all.
    - The distribution of enemies and kind of moments during the playthrough. You're always anticipating what's next to deal and getting your mind prepared for a different approach.
    - Is related to the Alien (1979) xeno-universe.
    - A very optimized in-house engine by the people of The Creative Assembly. Is not perfect but I think it makes a great role on all platforms (including last gen). In this PC version DOF, radiosity, ambient occlusion and SSS nice. Particles sprites and bakes looks really nice. Every room or moments deserves an screenshot.
    - The art, the layout they took from original Nostromo and the lighting and feeling of environments. Is not that oppened but is a little step from other too linear games.
    - Sound design, folley and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
    - Related with the folley, the Alien AI is most of the time interesting and feels different each time.
    - The variety of mini puzzles
    - The scary door haha!
    - SPOILER: The Nest!
    - Amanda Ripley's voice acting
    - Play it with DualShock 4 was great. Most of the actions feels better like the DOF control with one trigger and watching on the corners.
    - And of course. The hardest mode. I almost go back to normal but finally I beat the game slowly. It's very rewarding.

    Cons:
    - I wish we could see more NPC's and side quest during the game.
    - Some little pop-up assets between a final and a low poly mesh.
    - The in-house engine works great but Nostromo outside looks bad.
    - Some rigged characters looks robotic.
    - The FMV use in some parts of the game.
    - The face hugger death animation ¬¬ (the cheapest animation in 2014)
    - SPOILER: Samuels artificial life end's too soon :(
    - We have to wait for a second part ;)

    Recommendations:
    - Use good headsets ;)
    - Use Dualshock 4 or an Xbox Controller (is not an FPS)
    - DON'T EVER RUN!
    - Learn to craft wisely...some items are not that usefull if you're in a humans / alien / working joe's area.
    - RUN! Against working joes if you get discovered use an EMP Mine or an Stunt Baston and just run! (I don't know how difficult is to kill one in normal but in the "Survival" is a pain the A*s).
    - Flares can be useful. And there's a lot of them.
    - Enjoy the tapes ;) (all of them!)
    - Enjoy the music boomboxes like you enjoyed the rest room in Resident Evil games haha!
    - Keep moving. AI (most of the time) don't let you be that passive.

Alien Isolation es a great game that we didn't expect after the fiasco of Colonial Marines. It's great that games like Amnesia, Outlast or others are creating a new tendence of survival or at least horror games. In my personal opinion Alien Isolation is really refreshing for the AAA consumers ;) A game that should 100% be played to all sci-fi lovers ;)

The game itself can be split into two parts: first part that lasts approx. 8-10 hours and is absolutely brilliant, and the second one which is infinitely worse. I think 10 hours is the limit for a horror title overall, nothing can be scary for more than 10 hours) There are few good moments in those last several hours of the game, but overall they are completely uninteresting.

Still i think that amazing first part of Alien: Isolation is too good to skip that game.

    Let's start with the good.
    -The game is visually appealing.
The environment is incredibly detailed and looks amazing especially when you out outside in SPACE everything looks really good even the same hallways that you pass a hundred times look great. I love the retro styled computers/techs and the game is really well optimized I only got a stutter once in the entire game. -Hallelujah

    -Hallelujah to the sound god.
The sound in the game was one of the best **** my crappy ears have ever heard and listened to.
The game pays close attention to the sound in the environment and every beep and noise can potentially show your location. And don't get me started on the soundtrack boyyyyy those were some amazing scores that got your heart pumping when they had to and let your heart relax when it had to.Overall loved the sound design and track of this game.Voice acting was also top notch.
Now it's time for the Meh
-Story and characters were your boring and samey as everywhere else.
Don't get me wrong I liked the character we were playing as (RIpey was it?)but she wasn't that interesting for me and she seemed like every other action/horror main character you can find everywhere. The other cast was also pretty alright from all the characters I only enjoyed like 1-2 which were really well written characters. The story was pretty average with an OK ending. To be Fair I would've probably enjoyed the story even more if I remember any of the Alien's movie's which I barely don't.
The pacing was also an incredible hassle. The story kept getting derailed every single **** time.
Oooh look you almost got to the objective where you had to go. LOL NOPE time to take a detour because some jackass put his penis on an power generator and now you need to walk all the way back to remove the penis and start the generator again.Tedious pacing which kinda ruined some parts of the game for me.
    -Gameplay (The artificial length extension)
At first the gameplay was pretty fun and exciting I gotta admit.Salvaging and saving up your resources just for the right moment was really fun. Hiding from the enemies and the object interactions were not bad and there were some times where my heart was skipping so fast when trying to Save in an area that is full with hostiles. The problem with the gameplay was that it kept getting Artificially Extended as I like to put it. Oooh look you have to go back to the same place just because you need an upgrade to this or now you need to wait for the elevator to come down and then go up.The Space Walks were visually appealing but the pace of the walk made them incredibly tedious. The constant button pressing and interacting with computers and objects was hell after the first 2 hours. The Androids were there just to fill the empty space and they got tiring really fast. The weapons were all pretty good but at the middle of the game you didn't need to try to save up resources because they were everywhere which removed most of the danger this game had to offer. No idea why they had to extend the game by making it an incredibly tedious chore to get from point A to point B.

Verdict:Good game with incredibly visuals and sounds with an alright story and Ok characters with some parts exciting gameplay and most parts boring and tedious office type gameplay. 8/10

Perhaps the best horror game I have played, almost everything is successful, the atmosphere, the gameplay, the Alien. The only flaws that I see at the limit is the repetition of the quests and the lack of rhythm but otherwise this game was a pleasure from start to finish. I recommend it to all fans of horror games.

The Creative Assembly’s game, however, is cooked; left to boil so long it loses all flavor and texture. For 10 hours, Isolation is one of the best horror games ever made, until a second, poorly made game bursts out of its heart.

Alien Isolation can be frustratingly difficult at times, but nevertheless it’s easily the best game in the Alien franchise since the original Aliens vs Predator. The fact that the game mimics perfectly the 1970s look and sci fi stylings of Ridley Scott’s Alien film makes the experience even more endearing. By featuring absurd number of “surprise” twists, Alien Isolation’s final act could’ve used some trimming. [Nov 2014]
