  1. This game comes as close to the real 4 wheeling, mud slinging, rock climbing, log jumping experience as you can get without actually climbing into a real 4X4.
  2. 84
With a career mode that goes as long as you can make it, and better multiplayer support, this one should last you a while.
  3. If you want wild off-road racing, 4x4 EVO 2 usually delivers, warts and all.
  4. Splendid graphics and sound effects, with a wide set of vehicles and tuning capabilities and cleverly-designed racing settings...Yet deficiencies in gameplay, artificial intelligence, collision implementation, and even music prevents this title from being the spectacular release that it should have been.
  5. 60
If you're trying to decide between "Test Drive: Off-Road" and this game, choose the former for a better racing experience but choose Evo for its wildly inventive courses and creative object-based missions.

This series is beginning to look less like a unique PC off-road racer and more like a console-port knockoff with each incarnation. [Mar 2002, p.74]
  7. The racing is at best mediocre and at worst awful, so it's a good thing they included missions you can complete for cash. While they're a terrific idea (more variety is a very good thing), they're also completely brain dead.

Just "go there and findThe racing is very bad, but there is a unique mode that is quite a lot of fun: Exploring missions without time limit. Just "go there and find that" and you'r off taking your time cruising around the nice surroundings and enjoying the conquering of the hills and mountains. The phisics and gravity is vell made and quite a lot of fun, climbing steep mountains and gaining speed downhill to get up the next steep hill.
The race driving is no fun because of some bad design decisions, where this game could have been much better: rubber band effect is extreme (you catch up easily in races, but are overtaken also, without any sign that is has to do with your racing, the surfaces oder anything), the view has some flaws, responsibillity of the surfaces are almost non-existent, the steering has nothing to do with car driving.
So, if you want a 4x4 racers, choose a different game, but if you have fun at some exploring huge landscapes with a lot of 4WDs and good physics alone are just an okay game. Maybe it is more for quite people without a too big need of challenge or thrill.

The control is so, so, the graphics are decent, but the game against the comp seems really unbalanced. I can catch up to any other truck no matter how fast he is, but I'm unable to pass. If I do pass them and they wreck in a big heap of metal, they catch up to me in seconds. How does that make sense? Expand
