I have always knew that this game was considered a masterpiece, and that it was considered "the" best game, but I never really understood how such an apparently old and aged-looking video game could be praised so much, I just assumed that it was all the grumpy old players who played this as children and were hit by nostalgia.

But last year I got the chance to play and finish this video game. And from the very first hours of playing, this game just brings you into another dimension, a similar worlds to ours, with woods, lakes, castles and plains, but adding creatures of all kinds and following the adventure of a small hero. This game has an incredible level design, emotional storytelling, mystical and somehow nostalgia-inducing soundtracks even if you heard them for the first time, never boring gameplay, and funny interactions with all the characters that you encounter through the hero's journey. Technically it is well made, excluding a few bugs and counter intuitive mechanisms, that really don't get in the way of the game play.

I think this game has an atmosphere and an hidden subtext, that is relatable and resonates unconsciously to every human being, that's why it struck anyone who played it. Combined with it's pristine art that mimics the beauty of the real world in a newly explored technological way and following the adventure of each and everyone of us through growth, change, responsibility and love, it's no surprise that for now, and maybe for a while, this is the best videogame ever made.

If you can, try to play the original N64 version, in my opinion the 3DS remake just doesn't recreate the same magic, by using new textures that don't really fit with the original atmosphere of the original game, and also the original was intended for an home console which means it's supposed to be played on a big screen to really appreciate the open world, rather than the small screen of the 3DS.

*Bonus points if you play the original version and try to see yourself as a 10 years old in 1998 during the Christmas holidays, filled only with joy and curiosity, and entering this dimension. Then you'll get me.

Nos dejó mecanicas importantes como el ciclo del dia y la noche, excelentes fisicas, una muy buena trama argumental y que decir de tantos personajes y lugares carismaticamente inolvidables. But if there is a problem that I have with the game, it's just that Hyrule Field is just bland. I have never felt an incentive to explore the world, I find Lake Hylia especially dull, the only reason I've been there was to go to the water temple, and that is the worst dungeon in the game. Despite that one flaw I love literally everything else, Koji Kondo has made an absolutely fantastic soundtrack and should be regarded as one of his best. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

The graphics did not age well, but the first generation of 3D games are all like that. PS1 and N64 games all look like doo-doo in 2020. At the time though, OoT has possibly the best graphics of any 3D game.

For Zelda fans, this game introduced Zora as we know them. Introduced the Deku Tree, Epona, The Gerudo, etc. The Ganon fight at the end is still the best in the series and makes BoTW look even worse in comparison.

I have to go back to the start of a zone with no puzzles or enemies just to pick up an item to wake him
you don't ever get to use this item again
I can only wonder how somebody thinks of something this terrible

context sensitive button prompts suck my ass, it slows the game down and it's frustrating when you walk up to something you want to push and end up climbing it or jumping at it or something
pushing a block on a grid is not something you should have to take care to do, it's not as tho this game has intelligent puzzles
there's nothing contemplative about the extra 1 second it takes to completely halt your character and slightly realign yourself to get the correct prompt to show up

    dialogue speed is awful
you either skip the entire conversation or you're forced to read at the pace of someone with a severe learning disorder
it's even worse beacuse you're forced through conversations with an owl who tells you what to do because this game would be too directionless otherwise I guess
and then navi tells you what to do anyway
    WHYYY
the **** owl will even show up to give you tutorials on things that you already know how to do and have already done and the only way you can avoid it is using speedrunning tactics

the stealth section is the same thing 4 times in a row, a rectangle with 2 guards walking around it

sometimes the spot you have to stand in to do something is so ridiculously precise I thought more than once I just didn't have some key item yet or something but NOPE
you can't just be standing on the tree stump with your ocarina out, you have to be standing in THIS EXACT SPOT on the tree stump with your ocarina out
I had similar issues like this over and over

in jabu jabu's belly it's one thing to constantly be admonished by the stupid zora child for leaving her alone, it's kind of funny and even tho it's irritating it characterizes her
it's another thing entirely to "solve a puzzle" and then have navi tell you that you "solved a puzzle" and tell you what the outcomes are and totally slow the game down for no reason
generally dungeons are just poorly designed and boring, they would all be better if they were linear
because as it stands all that you do is walk down a corridor, find you can't proceed, backtrack, repeat until you find the place you're supposed to be
there's nothing interesting about it, you're not exploring, you're not solving a puzzle, you're just walking in circles

you can get an area of effect spell from a faerie and you get maybe 4 uses of it before you're out of mana so you might want to use it sparingly
but as it turns out it's never **** useful anyway
mini game where you have to light some torches? using your magic fire won't solve it, no feeling clever for you
enemy that's 50% underground and can't be hit by your sword til it's out?
fire won't hit it either, you just gotta lure it out and hit it with your boomerang
it's not the worst to have items of your kit that you don't use but it's indicative of how bad the designers were at putting these ideas together

combat is dull and z targetting doesn't even function properly, it sort of locks you in the direction you're already facing and sort of locks on to a target but only if they barely move and are very close

"if you let me go I'll sell this to you for 50 rupees"
    "no"
    "okay I'm going home then"

How it's considered to be not only one of the greatest game of all time, but possibly the greatest game of all time.
You see all of those accolades, and you think to yourself, "There's no way the game is that good. Surely this is all just hype, right?"
Well, I'm here to tell you that it's not just hype. Ocarina of Time is the near perfect masterpiece that fans claim it to be.
An amazing story that not only get's you invested in saving the land of Hyrule, but also gets you to care about the characters along the journey. The soundtrack is superb, succeeding in both ambient tracks as well as catchy themes. The game gives the player a sense of atmosphere and environmental story-telling not seen in games before.
What makes this game truly special is the gameplay and the innovation done to achieve it. Combat is engaging and exciting. The Z-Targeting system was an ingenious innovation that made fighting in a true 3D space more convenient, without reducing the difficulty of fights. The dungeons are some of the series best, being labyrinthian as well as intriguing. Bosses are fantastic, each one testing the player's skills thus far. Plus there are plenty of secrets and side-quests to keep you busy.
Ignore whatever contrarian Youtuber says otherwise. The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time is not only and objectively fantastic game, it also ranks in my personal favorite games of all time.

Greatest video game ever made by a mile! This was a big part of my childhood, I have finished this game over 1000 times and still dont get bored with it! At the time it was absolutely ground breaking, you felt like you were in that world for brief moments, i dont think i would love gaming so much if it wasn’t for this game id score it 1000/10 if possible.

The best game I have ever played. Hands down . This Zelda game alone made me a Zelda fan. I am almost shocked this game was created back in 1998. The gameplay and story is so good you look past the outdated graphics. If you are of a younger generation gamer and have not played Ocarina of Time . Than you need to get a Nintendo 64 console and play this game to appreciate its originality .

The dungeons are interesting and unique, the characters are interesting and have personality, the story is highly engaging, the combat is varied, fluid, and fun, the items are amazing, there are a plethora of interesting side quests and collectibles, and considering the fact that this game was made in 1998 the graphics are amazing. The only real downside is that the game is somewhat linear and you can't continue on after beating the final boss, but that doesn't detract from the huge amount of fun I had playing this game.

Love for Zelda and Mario. Und noch was Menschen die nur call of duty spielen oder andere herzlose spiele wissen nicht was richtige Spiele sind und haben auch nur Kritik an so geilen Spielen wie Zelda Oot Expand

I have always been a big fantasy fan and I must say as soon as I started I was hooked. I had played many fantasy games before, such as Skyrim and all of that but man was this different. The game gives some of the greatest dungeon mechanics ever created. Every region in the continent of Hyrule introduces you to a whole new realm filled with new races, enemies, and object/supplies. Every dungeon/temple is filled with complex and very interesting puzzles. Every level has some new item that you need to get to the end, and must of the time you will need it later in your adventures. Many secrets lie hidden right before you across the fields of Hyrule, some with fantastic rewards. The narrative is compelling- it is what really got the Zelda timeline rolling. The bosses are fantastic, some are slightly easier than others but overall they are very different from one another and are very enjoyable to fight. This was the first 3d Zelda game and one of the first 3d games in the world. If this game wasn't a sucess neither would the whole gaming industry, I don't care if you compare Zelda to dog turd, its the reason you're having a good time on your nintendo. And hey-THIS IS THE FIRST TIME YOU MEET GANONDORF- this is the greatest and shall always be my favorite video game to ever exist Expand
