    Super Mario 64 did not invent the 3D in the videogame, but sure was the first to do it right, it did it so well that even today it's still engaging, precise, and very fun.
    Being one of the first 3D games the developer made the right choice of starting the game in an open area with no music.     Being one of the first 3D games the developer made the right choice of starting the game in an open area with no music. This way the player can experience not only the movement controls but also the camera, which is very important to master from the begging since a jump usually fails because of our miscalculations based on the camera angle.
    To further demonstrate how this is not the traditional game, Mario has been given different jumps and moves, while also having the ability to punch enemies.
    After entering Peach castle, the player can choose which level he wants to play, in which order, and how many of them; as Mario 64 does not need you to complete all the levels in an area to advance to the next one.
    Every level is unique and fun in its own way. When you think that the game can't possibly get better it strikes you with a new idea and it does get better.
    I will talk about the music very briefly: it's just great! every single track fits perfectly, sounds great, and gives you different feels that go toe to toe with the level vibe.
    The amount of work to make this game is huge and you can really see it when you finally complete it, understanding how this gem shaped the way for all other 3D games to come

    An all time classic. The first mario 3d game really has it all. Fun and addictive gameplay. Smooth controls. Many different worlds you can play in and a soundtrack filled with classics. I always love revisiting this game.

    Super Mario 64 was the first 3D platformer in gaming history, and still holds up as one of the best! You get to explore peach’s castle and can access the levels in the game by jumping into paintings and pits around. There are 120 different stars to collect, and the levels are all super memorable and classic! Bob-omb Battlefield, Whomp’s Fortress, Wet Dry World, Tick Tock Clock, you nameSuper Mario 64 was the first 3D platformer in gaming history, and still holds up as one of the best! The controls are very solid and still hold up well to this day. There were some creative ideas for power ups in this game. Instead of the old mushroom and fire flower, they added the Wing, Invisibility and Metal caps which all worked out so well and you even had to enter secret levels to be able to access them which made it more fun. The Boss fights were easy but fun, and who could forget “So Long Gay Bowser”! I guess if I had to say one bad thing about this game, it would have to be the camera, which can be annoying to deal with.     I could go very in depth about all the things that mario 64 dos well but it's easier to list the negatives. 1: there is none, this game has no negatives in my opinion. graphics are fine and everything else is perfect. I played this game for the first time last year on switch with mario 3d all-stars and got hooked. now i have completed he game 12 times and 100% it once.

    Jogo que criou como se faz jogos em 3D pro mundo, e ainda hoje é o melhor Mario de todos os tempos. Obviamente esse jogo está no meu top5 e fez grande parte da minha infância por seu ótimo.

Super Mario 64 brought Mario into 3D for the first time, and did it masterfully as still easily one of the greatest and most influential games in history. While Super Mario 64 did not necessarily create everything it did, its package set the blueprint for future platforming games, and still is fun to play over a quarter of a century since it first came out.

    This game starts legendarily showing a 3D Peach's Castle with a 3D Mario coming out of the green pipe, and into the castle to Bowser's iconic "Bwa Ha Ha!" laugh. This castle serves as the hub for the game, and you are taken to diverse landscapes of 15 courses and 15 secret field areas of fields, ice, caves, lava, sand, water, a haunted mansion, the sky, and even inside a clock. Bowser is fought in 3D 3 times in this game. The first two times you get a key that unlocks a major part of the castle. The third and final time is as the final boss of game.

    The soundtrack for this game debuted many of the most iconic themes in the Mario series and some cases gaming in general, and if you collect all 120 stars, you are in for a special treat.

    There is a special joy while playing this game. You get the feeling that Nintendo wanted to make a historic statement with Mario going 3D, and you feel it every second you play it. You haven't seen all of gaming, never mind platformers, Nintendo, and Mario until you play Super Mario 64.    … Expand

    The best 3D platformer. I'm a little biased, as this is the firs tone I ever played back around age 8-10, but it really is excellent. The gameplay is great. Only downside is the camera, but to me it's not that big of a deal.

    One of the best games of all time. Excellent stages, a great ost, some of the best gameplay i've witnessed in a game and many other things. You might say that the graphics are not the best but i don't care that the graphics aren't 8K 120 fps.

    No tengo la edad para haberlo jugado en la N64, lo jugué muy tarde y en emulador y aun asi me gustó, de los mejores videojuegos de la historia, muy icónico y aparte CLASSIC.

    The absolute benchmark for not only 3d platformers, but 3d games in general. The movement is so good that you could have fun in an empty room, but it also helps that the levels are for the most part good. There's a variety of glitches that improve the gameplay, by adding extra spice to speedruns. Also, there is an extensive modding community. There is really no valid criticism for this game.

    This is hands down the best of the best of 3D platformers. In my list of best game of all time, this one comes at a close #2, but #1 would have to go to Super Mario Bros. 3. FINE (I'm such a fanboy...), it's still so fun to just kill the baby penguin by dropping him off the cliff, throw Bowser into a spiky ball and give him paranoia for the rest of his sad life and to BLJ into Princess Peach's great grandfather's clock. This game is almost perfect, yeah the graphics haven't aged well but that can be said for any game from the 5th gen, there are bugs but thats with alot of games.     I like this game a lot, the graphics are good, for N64, the gameplay is awesome, and the story, to the people who give 0s and 5s, The Story has been the same for 20 years, also the camera angle is good, N64 fans and Mario fans, and others should play this game, or you fail.     This game was revolutionary for its time. The first fully 3D environment on a console. The control is intuitive and the game offers a good challenge (especiall to master with 120 stars) all with an excellent learning curve. Nintendo at its best.

    Imagine a world without this game...without this game, the N64 would surely have not been as succesful, the platform-genre would be five years backwards, graphics would take a major hit, and video games in general would have something lacking.

    A brilliant game, you could own just this game it was enough to keep you entertained for months and months. That is what it did for me. For a long time it was the only N64 game I owned. I loved it.

The levels in the new Mario games just don't offer much deviation from what the developers intended. People are STILL figuring out how to do new things in Super Mario 64 today. The same won't be said about Galaxy and Galaxy 2 inAmazing game. Surpasses even the new 3D Mario games in my opinion. Super Mario 64's levels put you into a large, open area and you had to figure out what to do. The levels in the new Mario games just don't offer much deviation from what the developers intended.     Fantastic, incredible graphics texture at the time, Super Mario 64 showed us, how powerful he can change the video game industry. Over the top plat-forming and memorable moments and characters define the game. If it was possible to buy old games in this year, this will be in my list, but because it isn't it will cost you an arm and a leg to get this classic.

    To say Super Mario 64 was revolutionary is an understatement. Not only is it an ambitious game, but it's also surprisingly polished. Each stage has a unique theme that separates it from the rest. I think Yatzee Croshaw once described N64 graphics as beach toys inflated with farts (or something like that), which is an apt yet scientifically inaccurate description of how Super Mario 64 looks. It's only really visually appealing to those with a nostalgia for it or who appreciate video game history. If some kid accustomed to modern games saw this, they'd crap all over it. And while my nostalgia demands I defend Super Mario 64's honor by kicking some teeth in, my logical side is inclined to agree with those snot-nosed brats even if I don't want to.    … Expand

    Pretty interesting game, the first 3D platform and probably the best. Beautiful and hard game, it helped to transform Mario into a legend. Sometimes can be very frustrating, but that's part of its charm as long as you have enough patience.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Have you ever played a game that is so darn fun that you can't put it down, even if you 100% complete all save files? This is that game. If I was forced to pick one flaw it would be the storyline, which is barely flawed anyway! You play as Mario, the famous plumber, rendered for the first time in history in polygons. Sure, the storyline is the same old "Bowser captures princess, Mario duffs up Bowser, everyone lives happily ever after" shtick, but this entry throws in paintings and Power Stars into the mix. Bowser owns dimensions contained in paintings that are a danger to Mario, hindering him on his quest. in the paintings you will find the humorously named Power Stars. Power Stars are like keys to doors, because essentially the more Power Stars you have, the more doors you can enter, and entering doors allows you to quest for more Powers Stars. It's a vicious cycle, but you want to get sucked in. Which other video game rewards you with a giant's step towards 100% completion for collecting 100 gold coins? On the topic of coins, a gold coin (canonically named a yellow coin) is worth one buck, a red one two, and blue a whopping five. Collecting eight red coins in a single course rewards you with a-you guessed it-Power Star. The game's graphics were amazing in its time, and to some still are. We're talking about one of the first games to use mainly polygons here. One of the first games to use polygons, and maybe the best. The sound is epic, with a range of tunes going from genuinely day-improving to genuinely scary. Even when you've got all 120 Power Stars (and shed a tear or sixteen), there's still fun to be had. In the Princess' castle grounds, there is a cannon only activated when you have 120 stars that will blast you to the castle roof where you'll find (spoiler) old comrade Yoshi, who will give you 100 lives and an improved triple jump power! (spoiler end) And on the Internet you may encounter sites that gives suggestions of activities to do in the game that are meant to be done after 100% completion! So, even after beating the final boss and collecting all 120 Power Stars, there's still much fun to be had.

I do have some nostalgia from this game even though I didn't grow up playing that many video games, I just remember playing this game at a friend's house and I very much enjoyed it. So I eventually got my own copy of the game on the Wii Virtual Console later on in my life and when I got a used N64, I got the original SM64 cart as well, and I still enjoy the game today. The gameplay is solid, there are many different levels with very fun stars to collect, one thing though is that it the level themes may get repetitive; for example early on in the game you will find the level Cool, Cool Mountain which is a snow themed level, but later on in the game you find Snowman's Land; while the levels had their differences, I kind of wished for more diversity in themes, but maybe I shouldn't criticize that since the game may have have some limitations in being made. The bosses are okay, however I do think the final boss against Bowser is cool. I also like Mario's new abilities like being able to kick and ground-pound. Overall Super Mario 64 is a classic; while I do like Sunshine and the Galaxy games better, every gamer should play this.… Expand

    You know when that special game comes along at a certain point in time and just tickles pretty much everyones balls just right? Like metal gear solid, star craft 1, final fantasy 7, ocarina of time etc etc... This is one of those lol.

The graphics are not too bad, but it did not age well, and the controls need getting used, unlike the over Mario Games. There is only 2 problems and i've said it.
    So here are the positives: The music is amazing, the gameplay is stunning, the sound effects are great, the music is amazing, and did I say that the music is amazing!

Anyway this game is an incredible achievement, the mere fact it was made in 1996 makes it astonishing, and the fact that it is so good makes this unbelievable. Haven't played this game? Try it.     lots of other game franchises struggled to make the jump to 3D, but mario hit it out of the park on his first try. this is way better than those stupid sonic adventure games

    The distribution of power stars in the levels is horrendous. I think 7 stars in one level is more than enough, don't you think? I understand that there are memory constraints, but there either could have been less stars overall, or 1 (maybe 2) more level(s). Definately a problem.
