This is not a game. It's a gambling application that disguises itself as a game using unethical monetization strategies. It's a cheap asset flip of Diablo 3 for the mobile platform, and uses sophisticated psychological tactics to exploit it's fan base.

The application uses a pay-to-win model, and it's easy to get sucked in and spend $100's on upgrading gear. However, if you think that's expensive - imagine how dangerous it can be when it can take over $100,000 to max your gear.

PLEASE DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME - It's dangerous, and can ruin your life!

The only reason I am giving this a 1 instead of a 0 is because I can honestly see a great diablo game underneath all of the egregiously predatory monetization that the game will not let me forget about.

never drop legendary gear in elder rift, because I never charge money in it. completely dull content and bunch of p2w stuff. They are literally wasting this great IP and let players pay for good stuff in this game.

    WARNING:
Do not waste your time with this game. Other ones exist that actually respect your time and money.

Diablo Immortal uses many, if not all and more, of the most blatant and egregious monetization practices to extract money from the you. It is an embarrassment that this game left development with the way it is currently monetized.

    Avoid at all costs.

Imagine taking a beloved franchise and applying the most predatory microtransactions seen in any mobile game; welcome to Diablo Immortal.

Imagine taking a beloved franchise and applying the most predatory microtransactions seen in any mobile game; welcome to Diablo Immortal.

Every single aspect of the game is monetised. Cosmetics should be a given, nobody complains about cosmetic items being monetised, and rightly so, they have no impact on gameplay and are entirely down to player choice. The rest of Diablo Immortal is so heavily monetised it makes cheap Chinese money sinks blush.

The core gameplay centres around gems. Specifically "legendary" gems. While Diablo has four tiers of equipment, the bulk of their power comes from gems. With legendary gems providing the most power and utility. Legendary gems can not only be upgraded to increase their base stats, but they can also be socketed to allow for further upgrades, deepening not only the need to grind but also the temptation to use your credit cards as a shortcut.

To obtain these legendary gems (or the materials required to create them from scratch) requires money. A legendary gem can be obtained via "free" options, but the chances of obtaining a five star gem without spending any money are so rare they may as well be non-existent.

As gems are the backbone of endgame/competitive gameplay the means of acquiring them are heavily monetised. As disgusting as this practice is, its made even more abhorrent by the way it is pushed. Every single accomplishment in this game is punctuated by an alert to the store to purchase some pack with an arbitrary value attached to it, ie this pack has "400%" extra.

The core game is solid enough from a gameplay perspective. It is a Diablo game at heart. Though its essential a remix of Diablo 3 with many assets cribbed from it. The extra layer of complexity added to it via the gems mechanic would be welcome, if it didn't have such a heavy price tag associated with it.

Bugs are heavily prevalent with it. With items being lost, primary attacks not registering due to latency issues, HDR/gamma settings on PC making the game hideous to look at, the map overlay bleeding out of the map window onto the entire screen making things hard to read, controllers not being registered at certain points of the game etc. This kind of thing could be forgiven during a beta, but added into a very unsavoury mess of microtransactions that take advantage of addictive personality behaviour, the whole package leaves a very sour taste in the mouth.

Games like Diablo Immortal should be banned outright. At this point it isn't a point of a game being paid to win, its a question of a game outright preying on people's weaknesses. Just because there are no blatant lootboxes in the game doesn't mean that gambling mechanics aren't present. This philosophy of game design isn't just cynical, its a blatant disregard for it's players', sorry, customers' well being.

The only thing this game did was make me reinstall Diablo 3 for nostalgia's sake.

More like Diablo IMMORAL. Diablo 1 and 2 are among my favorite games of all time and since D3 this franchise is unrecognizable, it's a sacrilege what they are doing to this beloved IP.

You need $100,000+ to max out 1 character. I am NOT exaggerating - look it up. Someone actually calculated that you need this much to max out one character. And there are seasons, so you will need to spend this again in another season. They will also create new gems in the future, which will power creep over existing gems, and you'll need thousands to level those up also. Characters areYou need $100,000+ to max out 1 character. This is the most egregious monetization scheme every created in a video game. You can either spend $20 on a single rift to get good loot, or you can ftp a rift and get trash loot. There are 5 tiers of gems and ftp can only acquire up to 2/5 stars of gems. These games should be absolutely regulated out of existence. Expand

First and foremost get the f out with all these predatory microtransactions.
Game is clearly targeted towards Asian audience where such monetization is culturally acceptable. DI presence in the west is simply a byproduct.
Game itself is too easy, there is no need to dodge anything to kill even boss enemies. Ofc all that is correct until the point where everything is too hard without spending.

It's sadly a pure lootbox and payment $#!tshow. The game could be good, but to be honest it is just a great capitalistic nightmare. The whole loot and equip progression is built to generate purchases and if you just want to play the game you are nearly locked into not progressing at all. Such mechanics should be forbidden by law like in Belgium and the Netherlands!

Pay-to-win cash grab trash. Which is sad, because it could have been a promising game in which to expand the franchise. It's become evident that Blizzard no longer cares about their reputation. With this move the last bit of the good company, that once was Blizzard, has been destroyed. it's more machine now than visionary...twisted and evil. The company you loved, gone it is; consumed by $$$.

Even if you think the P2W aspects aren't that bad, or you are a whale that doesn't care about it, there's only a mediocre diablo experience here. Probably the greediest P2W game ever created, triumphing even over the insane money grabs we see from Korean and Chinese P2W games.

This is frankly not okay to any degree and genuinely shame on anyone who plays this excuse for a game.

I'm not sure what the official "reviewers" were smoking when calling this a good game. I think i'll go back to playing Grim Dawn, a proper ARPG, not this steaming pile of **** Good job Blizzard. Now before you say 2 hours isn't enough to have an opinion, it really is, because those 2 hours would have been what i would have been doing for the next 50 if i considered to play it more.

I'm bothered by the bland story of the world's destruction, which was vehemently influenced by the online nature and spirit of the game or the inability to change the camera. The game looks and runs very well, and you can also adjust the graphics settings on more powerful devices. I'd leave the disdain for the online elements of Diablo Immortal to the eternally doubting and overlooking, because just as you can recognize a good poem, you can recognize a fundamentally good game. To see it submit to mobile gaming's worst tendencies, rather than make any effort to be different, to be better, is galling. It may be flashy and efficient as both a Diablo game and a mobile game, but Immortal offers little that is bold, ambitious or innovative. Instead, its structure and pacing is designed with one goal in mind: to squeeze as much cash out of every player as it can. [Issue#374, p.110]

It is undeniable that Diablo Immortal's monetization system has problems and makes the more advanced stages of the adventure unpleasant, but the fact remains that the Blizzard title has brought one of the best experiences in the action RPG field to the mobile market, and it really is difficult to find on the App Store and Google Play Store another free to play with such high production values. Diablo Immortal is an excellent pastime for those who want to complete the long cooperative campaign and, above all, could represent the perfect entry point for those who have never approached the series: even without putting their wallet in, in fact, it remains a pleasant adventure to live while waiting for the fourth chapter to make its debut on the shelves.
