It’s got its heart in the right place aspiring to be like the Final Fantasy or Xenoblade series, but it’s still caught up in the platform paradigms we know all too well. In other words, it’s fine for its time, just not timeless.

Brave Frontier is one of those games that for a free to play player, you need to invest time to get the game right on track. Beating epic bosses, going through vortex and attempt to capture new Heroes to be summoned. Despite its initial problem Gumi and Alim had stepped up to fix the problem and had provided generous amount of reward to the players, gems, free keys for vortex dungeon, free material units, even free Heroes if you archieve certain events. However all these is not achievable in just a few days, this is the kind of game that required the player to invest in their time building up your pitiful heroes made up of small slimes and grow into Heroes epic in power and design.

You started off with very basic units, ya basic as hell, you are task to defeat the soul of Gaia. Capturing those tiny units and use them in hope you able to capture stronger units. Around autumn 2014, Gumi had updated the game to include daily task, which allows you to perform numerous missions to collect points, in which there are the cumulative reward and the trophy reward. Gems, helpful consumable and summon tickets are there for the taking if you are patient enough.

It had the addictive gameplay that kept pulling me back. As I collected enough gems and summon tickets, I use them to summon the Rare Summon, and the event is Soul Bound Saga, both Ultor and Triton are beef enough heroes, after summoning a few unwanted(but actually very good heroes) I got them both. From a free to play player perspective, wow I feel real good about myself. Sure the luck and random number of god keep on taunting you, but Gumi at least make it possible to give you your first epic summon on your first try.

This is the game where you need to play for a year to see your team becoming something of a monster. Pummeling bosses in one turn without a sweat, beating impossible bosses with the right team and ally, collecting more material to strengthen your new Heroes, capture more heroes and finally realized you need to spend a few gems to make spaces to repeat the addicting process above.

I understand why games like Brave Frontier, Tower of Savior or Clash of Clans are able to keep their players beyond being called evil cash grab cheapskate, cause as they are required to maintain a huge server, they will reward players constantly to keep you happy, while most will be free to play, player will eventually play money to gain better rewards, however is a matter of luck and balance. I as a free to play players had created a team of Heroes that allow me to go through 126 win streak in an arena match until my team met their end against another free to play players(a friend of mine).

Remember, this is not a game where reward comes instantaneously, you will be playing for sometime before seeing the gold chest unleashing rainbow unicorns and colorful ponies! But even if you start now, you still able to get the reward more easily compared to the previous years, better missions and more balance gameplay.
