  1. Although Spyro 2: Season of Flame is a very well produced game, the difficulty of it may turn away many players, myself included.

While not the most complicated game of the year, does deliver a small serving of fun. At the least it's the sort of title that forces players to work up a bit of the old hand-eye coordination.
  3. Season of Flame would benefit from better control and more objectives apart from collecting a bazillion trinkets, but the graphics, humor, and puzzles are engaging enough to warrant a purchase for devotees of the purple dragon.

The action is presented in the same style and is shown from the same isometric perspective as Spyro's last GBA adventure. [Nov 2002, p.228]
  5. Spyro 2’s major and quite glaring shortcoming – boredom. There’s plenty to do here, but none of it really makes you want to carry on the story through to its end because none of it is particularly fun.
  6. It's all pretty standard platforming fare with nothing to really distinguish it from the rest of similar titles except for the license.

While the size of the game and the sheer inventiveness of the many levels are admirable, such problems with core elements of the engine make play unfulfilling.

The graphics are also better and more colorful, the music is still nice and fitting to the area. The gameplay is still challenging and the controls are still intuitive (as they usually are). There's a lot of challenges that are take it or leave it to continue on so you can do as much as you feel.... but the deeper you go (I'm anal and have to 100% it like a freak) the more challenging the side quests become which I like despite the fact some of the side quests are taxing and repetitive.... (eg. chasing/catching leprechauns) Full Review »
