  1. In the sea of generic collect-a-thon shovelware platformers available for the Game Boy Advance, Rare has created something completely unique, charming, and fun overall.
  2. Whether you're after a quick ten minute distraction of you're preparing to sit in a train carriage for five hours, this game should suit your every need.

It's full of little surprises, including humour, great voice samples and a mix of brain-busting puzzle-based level designs.
  4. A great little game. It's original and funny, and although it is repetitive it packs enough challenge to keep you entertained long after you've nabbed the final piece of booty.
  5. It isn’t the best looking game nor is it the best playing, but it certainly has its moments and is worth random sessions of playtime on the road or for a slight diversion. Rare’s best works have been 2D side-scrollers and their work here is no exception.
  6. Sabre Wulf isn’t quite perfect, but thanks to its originality, great characters and platforming action, you’ll find that it just doesn’t get any better than this.

And the best part of all -- you won't have to go eBaying for a Sinclair ZX Spectrum computer to play it.
  8. Nintendo Power

The graphics are lush, and the play control is excellent. [July 2004, p.120]
  9. It has an uncanny knack of holding your interest, rarely feels frustrating, and deserves to be heralded among the very best titles on the format.
  10. A breath of fresh air on a system with a back catalogue full of generic platformers and ports of classic SNES titles. The gameplay never fails to entertain, combining puzzle solving, platforming and even adventure aspects.
  11. 80
A fun action game that's easy to understand and get into, and feels entirely like its own. Even with its loose, sloppy "adventure" elements and strange difficulty balance.
  12. For the two people that remember the Commodore 64 and for the one person that remembers Sabreman, Sabre Wulf should bring back memories. For everyone else, know that Sabre Wulf is an excellent platformer in the style of the famous "Donkey Kong Country."
  13. 80
A simple, unassuming, and hard-to-dislike platformer...It's light on substance but high on charm - a creative spin on the generic. [May 2004, p.78]
  14. It really would have stood on its own without constructing and elaborate void of an overworld, and it seems like a shame that Rare spent so much effort on such a meaningless frame on which to hang an intriguing game play experience.
  15. The length is fair, the story is on par with what Rare usually does, it’s visually superb, and the sound is actually enjoyable.
  16. With horrible European jokes and a weird storyline, the superb platforming elements in Sabre Wulf greatly make up for the few flaws in this game.
  17. Play Magazine

Highly pleasing graphically, and the British humor entertains, but once again, Rare's penchant for annoying sound effects rears its ugly head. [Nov 2003, p.101]
