It isn't the deepest game in the world, and some may find the gameplay repetitive over time, but the gameplay works well and the game's presentation is passable, too. If you're interested in some light puzzle-solving mixed with even lighter platforming, Sabre Wulf fits the bill.
-
The game can be finished in a handful of hours if beating the lairs is all that is attempted, but there are a huge amount of subsidiary side tasks and gold treasure acquisition to complete otherwise. All in all, a polished game that deserves a delve to see if it appeals to you or not.
-
Pocket GamesA platform-puzzle game gone mad. There's a freak-ton of collecting and backtracking. The wacky story and friendly controls make it worthwhile. [Summer 2004, p.40]
-
The levels themselves are fun and pack in lots of replay value, but the RPG elements in the overworld aren't quite as polished.
-
It's about as fun as a bowl of wheat. [Aug 2004, p.107]
-
Edge MagazineIt's simple, accessible and ultimately disposable stuff. Not the sprawling adventure you were hoping for, but fun nonetheless. [Apr 2004, p.108]
-
Sabreman realizes hes basically jumping through hoops so he can collect glittering treasure and do it again. So do you, but Sabre Wulf gives you both of enough reasons to keep going. Its rather fun, really.
-
Cheat Code CentralDue to the game's repetitive nature I would advise that you don't play it for long periods at a stretch. It will get boring. Savor it. Play one level and then put it away for a day or a week.
