Jim has a reputation for not finishing any projects but he is highly competitive with his neighbor Rick, who may usually wind up in second place in their many and varied competitions but has finished all the projects around his hose, unlike Jim.
The constant pranks and competition between the two men may be a friendly rivalry but it has become time-consuming to keep topping the other, much to the dismay of their wives who often feel left out.
Designer Frank and carpenter Amy help husband and wife Rick and Laura work on their neighbor's bedroom while Jim and his wife Linda work with designer Edward and carpenter Brandon to spruce up their neighbor's living room/work space where Laura works on her design business.
