I don't get the hate on The Witcher Blood Origins. Despite a slight (15%?) drop in production quality/budget this is better than The Witcher by every other metric. Michelle Yeoh in it too which always adds gravitas. Episode 2 is like twice as good as ep 1 at least, less grimdark, better story so far.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have never been so personally offended by a plot twist. Building up the first witcher and turning him into a I wanna kill roid rage "beast"(as the show calls him) that rips his friends to pieces and tries to choke to his daughters mom to death really disgust me and is really a spit in the face in my opinion .

I can only conclude that the writers hate the titular witchers and autistic coded charcters like them.

If you were to make a parody of a show with all the woke elements that have destroyed beloved franchises over the last 6 years - then this would be it

Sadly just another generic fantasy show with a poor script that has not much to do with the source material. Unluckily the plot and script are not that good. Like I said it is generic and feels like a D&D adventure story quickly constructed. Also it feels like they cut parts out of the story and it seems like that is even plausible (I read it should have been 6 episodes which were cut to 4). By the way nothing in the world seems Elven. It is set 1000 or more years before human arrive (Dwarfs, Gnomes and other races were there even before both other races if I remember correctly). They look, feel and act like humans that have pointy ears. A huge waste of potential. I will not blame the actors. They did the best they could and even the best actors cant save a bad show or lets say completely turn the tides. The saving grace is the soundtrack which is enjoyable. Overall you should avoid this and play the games or read the books instead. Expand

This is not the Witcher at all. Netflix should delete what it’s made so far and give CDPR/Henry full control to make it right. Easy 0/10

I think somewhere along the line Hollywood forgot why they purchase IPs. It's not a free audience to do with whatever you want.

This is a terrible show. It’s extremely generic, badly written, badly acted and while I have no issue with diversity (it’s generally a great thing), they’ve ticked every race, gender, sexuality and disability box that they could. The Witcher is turning into a massive own goal for Netflix.

People are ripping apart this show and rightfully so. From the awful-looking production, terrible writing, and the laughable "acting" by the cast, Blood Origin is as low effort and bare-bones as you could possibly imagine. Don't bother wasting your time on this trash.

Un sin sentido, que no tiene nada que ver con el Lore de Andrzej. Con ideología progre encajada a la fuerza. Todo un despropósito.

They were created by Alzur, a HUMAN sorcerer, LONG after conjunction to deal with monsters efficiently - as elves already had their longevity and dwarves their sturdiness, humans were the most common menu for all the monsters on the continent. And yes, there was a lot of experimentation involved, Alzur didn't care about morality, only about results. First few trials ended in painful and ugly deaths of the subjects (and some of Alzur's initial assistants, including his lover) but thanks to them he learned that only human boys of certain age and fitness can survive the full process (that's why there are no witcher women, though I expect NF to change that as well in future seasons). Eventually, he recruited his former master Malaspina and his apprentice Idarran (both HUMAN) to help in larger scale of production. Ironically, they also dabbled into experimentation on enhancing mosters, effectively making future witchers' job even harder. One of those monsters was Alzur's ultimate demise. Despite effectively saving humanity through witchers Alzur is considered a villan by historians, especially sorcerers, mainly due to his later experiments with monsters that were far worse than any naturally occuring specimens.? I didn't expect it to be that bad, I simply have no words, they mocked us Witcher fans. Simply everything is bad in this series, when I say everything I really mean everything, very bad. I'm done with everything else that comes along.

I'm just so bored about all this politics bs ... but this is really not the only problem with the show actually, this is so bad written, the actors are so so so bad it's just crazy to me. Let's forget everything about this.
The Witcher serie was already bad in some points but it's a masterpiece compare to this.

Xena and Hercules are much much better... Dear writers, just leave the Witcher brand alone and write a stand alone fantasy (if you can...).

This looks and feels nothing like the Witcher. I don't see any connection to the Witcher or Polish mythology or any of the influences in Andrzej Sapkowski's work. This is a poorly written and farcical fantasy story with the Witcher franchise logo slapped on top of it.

The writing in this show is catastrophically bad, and there is no logic to the story or depth to the character's motivations. Honestly, some of the actors in this miniseries were wasted on such a garbage script.

The world building of various factions and ethic groups is not realistic for the time period or the source material the story is reflecting. Elves don't look or act likes elves - everyone just acts, looks and lives like humans. The "diverse" cast makes no sense given the setting and source material. The setting is just not believable as a result, as I have no idea how a bunch of medieval cultures achieved such mass migration so early on like modern times - this requires explanation. And no, I don't care if it's fantasy - your world needs to make sense. The further you go back into time periods of low technology where things like travel and wealth are big challenges to migration, your world needs to reflect this with mostly homogeneous societies (just as the original Witcher material was written). If you want to make a diverse cast, tell a story in modern day New York, or tell a space story in the far future where diversity makes sense.

The show is also filled with "strong female characters" putting men to shame, which is a troupe that is just so overused in Hollywood these days. It's so boring. uninteresting and repetitive. I can't even remember a strong feminine heroine in a recent Hollywood movie that retains any of her femineity. As a woman, I am so tired by this.

I have no idea why any Witcher fan or a fan of fantasy would watch this. The show is generally horrible, from the modern identity political messages, the lack of respect for the source material, the childish and immature writing, the lack of cohesion and rationality with respect to the world building, the logic of the world and the characters, and it really does not fit in with the Witcher franchise because of all the violations of lore and other things.

In short, this is bad fan fiction. It is a cash grab by Netflix. Without the Witcher logo and some notable actors, you would not have watched this. It's not worth your time.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What missed potential. The Witcher universe is ripe with stories to be told, but instead we got modernist dogma.

I tried to stick it out, I really did. For Michelle Yeoh, for the Witcher story we all have come to like, for the landscapes and fight scenes. But I was out when the dwarf starts whining to the elves that they took their land - yikes, conquest is basically the entire subplot of the whole Witcher universe. My woke radar immediately booted up, and it became obviously the writers were more interested in preaching, than in storytelling a medieval fantasy. I have work and family and school responsibilities, no time to be educated by my TV. It was over for me.

Also, how does it speak to the character of a person who hates a man for killing her sister, then falls in love with him over the course of a few days, and ends up wailing forlornly over his dead monster body. Huh?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've long accepted that this franchise would stray from the books. I didn't really care cuz Cavill sold me and Nightmare of the Wolf was actually really good. So color me a bit shocked that Blood Origin is so awful. Here we have the lore and the conjunction and that's lost with so many unnecessary plots that appear to be created just for diversity. Now I'm not opposed to diversity, but if you're gonna make a miniseries focusing on a major event then that should be the focus. Put the diversity there and give characters room to breathe. Expand

This TV Show is not only worst thing originated from The Witcher universe in fact, it is worst thing Netflix ever produced. Nothing on this origin series fits in the regular The Witcher Series. The writers change everything they could change, but in wrong way. I dont know how they intent to explain Tir na lia, Lara Dorren, Auberon. Sad end from wonderful source. Netflix, please stop.

“Blood Origin’s” limited use of its strongest asset illustrates why the serviceable series never rises any higher — and sets a troubling precedent for what’s next.
