Each episode introduces a new side plot and resolves it almost instantly while simultaneously giving us back story on the characters through incredibly rushed and very bland flashbacks. Then the details.. Sigh. We are to believe that some of the characters haven't showered in 6 years, yet there is no sign of body hair (one of the characters even has a perfectly groomed moustache). The rain is deadly (instantly kills) yet right after the rain stops they can just carry on and touch grass, plants, whatever that has been touched by the rain. Too many plot holes and not enough to make up for it. The characters are bland and unsympathetic. Hard to get into it and actually start rooting for them. Great potential but extremely poor execution. Expand

All characters make idiotic and unrealistic life-threatening decisions that takes makes you scream, “Why!?” In the first episode, the kids opens the bunker with no seemingly transition on how they did so which I found bothering. This lead to a poorly handled scene.

Here’s a guide to watch the whole first season in 1 hour: Watch all of episode 1. Skip episodes 2-7. Nothing meaningful

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's a soap-drama. To me the characters and their storyline are not credible. You can't be dumb/stupid and survive at the same time and make it credible. They are constantly doing things without thinking ahead.
    - everything is super dangerous in the city - let's scream out each others names and split the group up
    - take your kids in all seriousness but don't watch the road and crash
    - outside is dangerous and deadly so take your kids to the safest bunker on earth but let them be able to open the door as well (like giving your ipad to a kid and have no safety code for purchasing apps)
    - we have a bunker full of food; lets not ration
    - we can go from bunker to bunker and never starve in our lifetime. lets get stabbed over some cereal bars
    - we are being too rational; lets get emotional and do something silly in this post apocalyptic killer world

The mechanic is one dimensional. I see through it and it does not entertain me that they try to frustrate you on your common sense. They are not creating the depth that i would like to see. Either the writers are poor creatively (like copying the 'TWD' mechanic) or they just go for the target audience that likes to get carried away with this kind of soap-drama.

The Rain has its up's and downs, and Netflix definitely had the show going well from the start but it definitely got a bit repetitive after a short while and almost predictable at some stages, where you would think oh that is about to happen and it actually happens. The predictability makes you want to start skipping to the good parts of an episode as you have already unravelled the plot section for that episode. I cannot fault the writers though as the concept and the way the background was given was beautiful, I would have suggested a better main actor as the actor playing Simonè definitely felt lacklustre and rather annoying from time to time.

All in all, though, The Rain was truly captivating in the good sections and you definitely find yourself falling in love with some of the characters, and your emotions start to follow along to theirs'.

Footnote, I personally found this show a lot better in the subbed version as the dubbed version found the translations to be a bit off in some places and really did not feel as good as with it was the subbed version.

There are a lot of things that do not make sense (like Martin taking a shoot and getting up later like nothing happened), the rhythm of the show is a little bit weird, and the ending is very confuse. The plot itself is good, but it was developed in a way that it seems like a bad soap opera. Hope that if there is gonna be a next season, it be better. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First, where The Rain gets it right; engaging characters and horrifying truth of the matter; Life isn't always fair. That ecspecially rings true when the series protganist, Simone and Rasmus both are yanked from their normal life into a bunker with little to zero contact to the outside world. Right after losing their father and watching their mother die in front of them. From here, we learn small snippets of the characters growing up, yet , maybe intentinoatlly, never really from the view point of Rasmus, the male 'protagonist.'

A great premise of survival and trying to overcome. My heart went out with Simone right then and there. And this is where it began going down hill for me as a viewer.

The director spends so much time having our hearts as viewers invest into these two and show what they've come from, 'sheltered, frightened children and a young woman forced to grow up and shoved into caretaker mode,' that seeing their following actions afterwards becomes . . .cringeworthy Or perhaps that was the goal?

Seeing every mistake, every slip made by the pair at the beginning once they've joined the group was supposed to show how out of the water they were compared to their more gritty and hardened comrades, Lea and Patrick being the **** favorites. Then, almost at the same time, they come on their heads as what was once established characters clueless caricatures of what they were written to be.

Martin, a hardened soldier that was forced to learn from his mistake and is haunted daily from hestiation, and shown to never want to do that again, constantly begins hesitating again.

Beatrice, a great ineterest and whom complicated and intriuging backstory of **** that's survived by her wit and femme fatale . . . . .uses her wit and manipulation on those that's already in her trust-

Lea . . . . she was mostly forgettable. Along with Jeane with that 'one' episode' moment from coward looter to . . . . trash?

    And then, sweet sweet Rasmus.
His role can be a bit forgiving. He literally never had a chance to grow up . . . And it shows in his naevity and consistently moments where the viewer sees that 'he hasn't grown up.'

Which brings us back to Simone that wishes to chide by her father's last dying wish as far as she knew, to keep her brother safe. She uses wit, cunning, to do all of just that. . . Her attention to detail helps with this and frankly . . . some of the choices just ended falling flat when all of everyone came together on it.

This might be a fall on translation, messing with the settings, you can tell there was cultural differences.

This wasn't a heroic survival of toughened people . . .this was more a youths trying to make it together with what little they had. But there were so many points in the writing that I just wanted to skip through that it made it hard to want to invest more than I already had. Maybe it's more on the writers or the director that made their mains more support or they didn't care enough either. like, "surprise, he's not dead but he didn't bother looking for you anyways so . . . tada???"

Like it, love it, hate it, it's still a good watch and short enough to take note of. With the last mystery hook . . . Not sure if its something I may want to pick up on a season two or not. We shall see.

I keep watching it, I don't know why, but I do. It's kind of like looking at an accident. It's hard not too. I just find it so hard to believe that in the world the way it is today, that any group of any kids, any age, from any country, could be as naive about human nature as this group is. It just seems out of any choice that presents itself, they choose the worst one.

Fans of dystopian tales will have high hopes that "The Rain" resembles early "The Walking Dead" drama. But pretty quickly it's more like late TWD, with our protagonists encountering one band of psychopaths after another. I liked the "responsible big sister" character -- though I wondered how she maintained the highlights in her hair during the rainy apocalypse -- so I hung in there.

I give this a high rating because the user rating is too low as it is. Obviously there will be flaws like most work but

I give this a high rating because the user rating is too low as it is. Obviously there will be flaws like most work but none that ruin it.

What struck me the most was how this felt like a fresh take on the apocalypse, I haven't seen a tv series devoted to a plague that doesn't turn people into zombies. This together with the fact that its a Scandinavian tv series which is a fresh breath to the otherwise english dominated international market and proves, to me atleast, that there can be good fictional works out of our countries.

My other response will be to the whining. First of all, you should watch the whole series before complaining about this, both main characters do get hardened over the time of the series and psychologically its realistic that the main characters have qualms about killing people and moral issues at first. They spent 6 years in a bunker, the younger one being 10 and the older one around 16. Personally its more immersive to see these people crawl out, insecure and see how the world alters them as people. Several times they realize that their way of thinking won't work out or cause the death of the people around them.

To the guy who wrote that they only watched 8 minutes, maybe watch the whole thing before complaining? The children also act like children because they are just that, they were young and their mistakes did hurt them poorly. But as with any series, character development is paramount and the 6 years shows how they have matured as individuals whilst still being naive in a realistic way about the world around them.

Its a solid, well themed series about a group of young people trying to survive in a world where the very basis for survival, aka the water is trying to kill them and I really hope this will get a second season considering the ending of the first.

Despite his best efforts, for a show where humanity is under attack, you ultimately need a reason to root for at least most of the humans. The Rain never gets to the point where you’re pulling for the water droplets, but this is one barren wasteland that makes it difficult to care about anything other than surviving it.

The Rain‘s greatest strength might be its clever hand with doling out information. If post-apocalyptic fiction has become too rote and familiar over the last decade, a good mystery yarn never loses its appeal, and The Rain spins mysteries well, dropping reveals and intriguing tidbits with impeccable timing. That quality makes The Rain a great binge show.
