I share the sentiments of most people that got easily annoyed by the main characters at the start of the first few minutes. I only continued watching up to about 30 minutes in of the first episode. It was that horrible!

The initial tension in the air was promising. But when they got into the bunker, that's when it all started to fall apart for me. The instructions given by the father were very simple. Just stay in there with their mother until he gets back to them after some time if not sooner. I also find it a bit confusing as to why he already has to go outside with that thing still actively happening. Many things were becoming very unclear and so inconsistent that made me really lose interest to continue watching it.

One thing in particular is that teenage girl who was portrayed as really stupid for someone of her age. I thought she was a smart one in school? When she got into the bunker, she was so ridiculously inept and had really bad catastrophic ideas in her head, like the decision to open the door that then killed their mother in the process and to keep thinking of finding their father constantly, despite being told that she has to protect her little brother.

I've just watched the Korean film #Alive, and at least that one was following some sense of logic in it. He waited it out before he acted on whether he should go or continue to stay. That stupid girl in the bunker couldn't wait it out even for just a day at least. She couldn't even make herself useful in the bunker or find out how the bunker works or what they can find in there before venturing into the unknown outside.

I don't know what went on the heads of the brilliant writers of this show. It was really below average in quality, if you compare it with other better, memorable and impactful shows you may find on Netflix. This one just made it to one of the worst finds I had on Netflix!

It is one of those shows where within the first 30 minutes it becomes apparent that the only real threat to the main characters is themselves, by being incredibly dumb.

This show's writing is so bad that it makes you hate the main characters right from the start. I don't blame the actors though, they just got a terrible director and a moron writing the script. It's easy to hate the actors given that their characters are so dumb, but I'm actually sorry for 'em.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First, where The Rain gets it right; engaging characters and horrifying truth of the matter; Life isn't always fair. That ecspecially rings true when the series protganist, Simone and Rasmus both are yanked from their normal life into a bunker with little to zero contact to the outside world. Right after losing their father and watching their mother die in front of them. From here, we learn small snippets of the characters growing up, yet , maybe intentinoatlly, never really from the view point of Rasmus, the male 'protagonist.'

A great premise of survival and trying to overcome. My heart went out with Simone right then and there. And this is where it began going down hill for me as a viewer.

The director spends so much time having our hearts as viewers invest into these two and show what they've come from, 'sheltered, frightened children and a young woman forced to grow up and shoved into caretaker mode,' that seeing their following actions afterwards becomes . . .cringeworthy Or perhaps that was the goal?

Seeing every mistake, every slip made by the pair at the beginning once they've joined the group was supposed to show how out of the water they were compared to their more gritty and hardened comrades, Lea and Patrick being the **** favorites. Then, almost at the same time, they come on their heads as what was once established characters clueless caricatures of what they were written to be.

Martin, a hardened soldier that was forced to learn from his mistake and is haunted daily from hestiation, and shown to never want to do that again, constantly begins hesitating again.

Beatrice, a great ineterest and whom complicated and intriuging backstory of **** that's survived by her wit and femme fatale . . . . .uses her wit and manipulation on those that's already in her trust-

Lea . . . . she was mostly forgettable. Along with Jeane with that 'one' episode' moment from coward looter to . . . . trash?

    And then, sweet sweet Rasmus.
His role can be a bit forgiving. He literally never had a chance to grow up . . . And it shows in his naevity and consistently moments where the viewer sees that 'he hasn't grown up.'

Which brings us back to Simone that wishes to chide by her father's last dying wish as far as she knew, to keep her brother safe. She uses wit, cunning, to do all of just that. . . Her attention to detail helps with this and frankly . . . some of the choices just ended falling flat when all of everyone came together on it.

This might be a fall on translation, messing with the settings, you can tell there was cultural differences.

This wasn't a heroic survival of toughened people . . .this was more a youths trying to make it together with what little they had. But there were so many points in the writing that I just wanted to skip through that it made it hard to want to invest more than I already had. Maybe it's more on the writers or the director that made their mains more support or they didn't care enough either. like, "surprise, he's not dead but he didn't bother looking for you anyways so . . . tada???"

Like it, love it, hate it, it's still a good watch and short enough to take note of. With the last mystery hook . . . Not sure if its something I may want to pick up on a season two or not. We shall see.

The predictability makes you want to start skipping to the good parts of an episode as you have already unravelled the plot section for that episode. I cannot fault the writers though as the concept and the way the background was given was beautiful, I would have suggested a better main actor as the actor playing Simonè definitely felt lacklustre and rather annoying from time to time.

All in all, though, The Rain was truly captivating in the good sections and you definitely find yourself falling in love with some of the characters, and your emotions start to follow along to theirs'.

Footnote, I personally found this show a lot better in the subbed version as the dubbed version found the translations to be a bit off in some places and really did not feel as good as with it was the subbed version.

I keep watching it, I don't know why, but I do. It's kind of like looking at an accident. It's hard not too. I just find it so hard to believe that in the world the way it is today, that any group of any kids, any age, from any country, could be as naive about human nature as this group is. It just seems out of any choice that presents itself, they choose the worst one.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I enjoyed this show. I loved the fact that it took place in Scandinavia. The older sister had to be an adult before she was ready. Her little brother couldn't develop social skills after age 10, b/c for 6 years, the only person he interacted with was his sister. Martin was a cool leader. I loved the blond girl with the braces. I felt sorry for Patrick, who wanted desperately to fit in with this group, only to have Martin turn his back on him (as Patrick's father had done). They did a nice job with flashbacks to further develop the characters.

The thing that bothered me was how the father just left them and never came back! Also, they could never take showers (no water!), but their hair was shiny clean. I can't say "oh well, Hollywood" this time.

Me – I would have stayed in the bunker with the food and security. Why they repeatedly left the safety of the bunker for the food-less dangerous outside world was beyond me.

That little utopia place where they ended up eating people freaked me out. I saw it coming, but not right away. I felt so sorry for braces-girl, because she found heart in the older lady, a mother figure for her, after her own mother practically disowned her. I was screaming at braces-girl to tell her mother that she was drugged.

Some of you who reviewed said that these people were acting immature, like children. Ahhh... they WERE children! Well... teens. Same thing. I'm an adult, and if I faced the end of the world, I'd ball up in a corner.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's a soap-drama. To me the characters and their storyline are not credible. You can't be dumb/stupid and survive at the same time and make it credible. They are constantly doing things without thinking ahead.
    - everything is super dangerous in the city - let's scream out each others names and split the group up
    - take your kids in all seriousness but don't watch the road and crash
    - outside is dangerous and deadly so take your kids to the safest bunker on earth but let them be able to open the door as well (like giving your ipad to a kid and have no safety code for purchasing apps)
    - we have a bunker full of food; lets not ration
    - we can go from bunker to bunker and never starve in our lifetime. lets get stabbed over some cereal bars
    - we are being too rational; lets get emotional and do something silly in this post apocalyptic killer world

The mechanic is one dimensional. I see through it and it does not entertain me that they try to frustrate you on your common sense. They are not creating the depth that i would like to see. Either the writers are poor creatively (like copying the 'TWD' mechanic) or they just go for the target audience that likes to get carried away with this kind of soap-drama.

This Danish show does have a nice premise, a mysterious rain, out of nowhere, that apparently everyone that gets in touch with it has convulsions and die. The show consists in a group of people trying to survive in that universe and reach a determined place and face some situations during the way.
This show have one giant problem that may be the worst thing in it, is that the story is based in conveniences and coincidences, and it does happens every damn episode, the character decides to go from a point A to a B and among several other places that they could go, coincidentally in that one specific that they went there is a tip of where could they go, this kind of thing happens every time and is really uncomfortable for whoever is watching.
Another big thing that bothered me a lot, is that some characters are just annoying, the main characters is so annoying sometimes that you feel wrong that they are the main, Simone, interpreted by ALba August, is a over protective sister that will do anything to protect her brother, in the beginning it worked out, in the first episode it was great and was fun and enjoyable to watch, but after some episodes it was just awful and repetitive to see the same thing, she was like that character that wanted to protect the boy, but did not let him grow as a person and neither as a character, he never developed to be a good character and i blame her for it, and by the way the boy is such of a nonsense character, somethings that happens is so dumb that i couldn't like him that much, when they both are in the bunker, for me, they both worked out much better than in the rest of the show. They tried to make Simone a character that is contrary in all of what happens in that world, but it goes beyond that, they trie so hard that, that it feels naivety way to much.
One thing that i liked was the production quality, the show have nice cameras and is enjoyable to much as its visuals, but in other hand the world building that it had wasn't very great, for six years without much people working and walking around the place should be different.
It is very predictable and superficial, you question the show all the time, why are the characters doing one specific thing, you question the inteligence of the characters, wich is horrible, and question how the world works, wich makes it a little less believable because of the lack of sense and explanations.
The chemistry of the group worked for me at most, the Mikkel Boe Følsgaard character, Martin, was very good for me, in some moments cliche, but very functional. Angela Bundalovic interpreted Beatrice, and she did a great job, she was formidable, the show forced 2 relationships and one of those you bought it because of her, she was a high point of the show. The other relationship that they do is completely forced and you won't buy it, even for a moment. The other actors and actresses are all functional and worked as a group.
The show holds itself because of the mystery, you get curious watching it and want to know what is happening, some things that you want explanations they never explain and doesn't feel right, but hopefully they will clear things up next seasons, doesn't need to everything makes sense, but some crucial plot things is needed.
This show had a great potential but the lack of creativity couldn't make it reach what it could had, but unfortunately it isn't remarkable or any close of it.

Despite his best efforts, for a show where humanity is under attack, you ultimately need a reason to root for at least most of the humans. The Rain never gets to the point where you’re pulling for the water droplets, but this is one barren wasteland that makes it difficult to care about anything other than surviving it.

The Rain‘s greatest strength might be its clever hand with doling out information. If post-apocalyptic fiction has become too rote and familiar over the last decade, a good mystery yarn never loses its appeal, and The Rain spins mysteries well, dropping reveals and intriguing tidbits with impeccable timing. That quality makes The Rain a great binge show.
