Some episodes are very good, the first episodes got me hooked! But a few episodes (such as EP 4 and 5 as an example) have very bland characters, sloppy storyline and feel totally pointless, making the show feel like another Disney Star Wars fan fiction. I don't think there should be pointless episodes in such a short series. Most scenes are beautiful and the cinematography is superb at times, which really nails the original Star Wars feeling. I would like to have seen a Star Wars with a higher rating than PG, making it more serious and to capture the western setting better. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The plot left you not knowing which way it could tip giving it an exciting flavor. However ruining the immersion, all the actors in armor ie troopers and the mandolorian looked unnatural when they were walking running or moving in general. As someone who wears awkward gear i know that after a while you become used to walking and moving in it. Also there elite former troopers moved like shell shocked new recruits who had never fought, beeen trained or born with a lick of self preservation. The sceene with the baby and 2 bike troopers was entirely on point though. Good concept horrible training and emersion breaking at points that a few hours of training could of helped with. Expand

This is Star Wars done right. Better than the movies, better than the tv shows (maybe on par with The Clone Wars). Star Wars back to its roots: a tale of space western, with gunslingers, barrow planets, renegades and rebels.

Nobody is annoyed by baby yoda's oh-so-lucky near-death and how-convenient force powers. We are too enamored with those oversize ears and glimmering big eyes to care about what makes sense and what doesn't. Love makes you lose your reason and ignore flaws. When Jon and Dave created these quaint characters that Star War fans can easily fall in love with, they'd already succeeded. Objectively, the show is full of flaws, but it does 100% deliver on the magic of George Lucas' "dumb kid's movie" franchise. The money printing machine is definitely being rebuilt out of the wreckage of Sith Kennedy.

In amongst the relentless fan service it's a very generic western that just happens to be set in the Star Wars universe. The main character is bland. The supporting characters are forgettable stereotypes. The IG88 droid is completely overpowered, I honestly have no idea why the separatists didn't win the clone wars when a single droid can wipe out hundreds of stormtroopers on their own. The way the droid rode in and saved the day in S01E08 against a small army of crack imperial troops was ridiculous. Baby yoda is somehow still alive even though they can't communicate with him, don't know what he eats and never wash him or change his clothes. It's just Disney cashing in on the Star Wars franchise, just re-using material from the original movies and adding nothing new. The fact that they are using original trilogy and prequel characters and ignoring the sequels pretty much says it all. There is absolutely nothing new or original here, the universe is not expanding with the mouse at the helm. Expand

Like Disney's movies, this product survives only on endless references to Lucas' two trilogies (mainly the old one, as aging brainless nerds are still catered to), but brings nothing new to the franchise and doesn't expand it in any way.

Plot-wise, the Mandalorian is empty. Filled with cheesy lines, each episode is a package of played-out filmmaking cliches - the hardened warrior having feelings all of a sudden, the noble protagonist joining a band of misfits "for one last job" and getting betrayed, etc. The story is structured like that of an old bad videogame - the protagonist gets a quest from an NPC (you need to capture the kid - you need to free a prisoner - you need to help the peasants, the list goes on), completes it and gets a quest from another, the story doesn't unfold on its own in any major way. A few paragraphs could be dedicated to the stupidity of both supporting and the titular characters, to how dumbly he falls into any trap laid before him, and how he tries to be a badass in one scene only to be beaten up in another, but this is getting too long anyway.

Finally, I don't understand the necessity of Pedro Pascal's involvement. The titular character never shows his face, and playing him doesn't require any acting abilities, you just read the lines blandly. IMDb's trivia even says that he doesn't appear on screen at all in episode 1, it's all body doubles. I would just fire him and save some budget.

I've read people say "this finally has the right vibe". The only thing likening this to the old movies is how cheap it looks compared to modern feature films.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I watched up to S2E6. This is pure amazing unadulterated fun badass action. It deserves a 10. I give it 9 because the beginning is a bit slow and after watching 3 episodes I thought it was boring. But I gave it a second chance after hearing people's comments and I'm happy I did. This is the BEST STAR WARS I've seen, up there with the first trilogy (but with faaaaar better effects)

At first is catches by surprise because it's not the typical Star Wars. It's a western set in SW universe. You have to get used to it. By S1E5 I was already hooked. The action scenes are so well done

The episode twists are so cool

The main character is a total badass at the level of Rambo and the secondary cast is really great.

The pacing is excellent.

Baby Yoda is the first cute SW creature which is not annoying.

There are funny scenes which parody SW without being cringey or feeling forced or too much. It is particularly funny to see how deliberately useless the regular stormtroopers are. There is a particular scene where they're trying to aim and shoot at something and they don't hit even once.

The evil guy is over-the-top on your face evil but without being too much.

The only thing I felt a bit lacking is that almost no background is given to Bo Katan and Ahsoka Tano. However I understand that their story is already developed somwhere else.

The only thing I didn't like is a certain fight between a fully trained jedi knight and what I understood to be a regular human. The jedi and the human where kind of matched in terms of skill. That didn't seem to make sense as jedi have super human skills and no creature that can use the force should in theory match a master in the use of the force (except perhaps a Mandalorian?).

I hope they continue producing this quality stuff, because this is through the roof.

Disney has just convinced me to be happy about them buying all these licences. If they do this good, please keep on buying stuff...

It created strong characters that you care for, relate to and want to know more of. This is especially praiseworthy because the Mandalorian played by Pedro Pascal always wears his helmet. It works because it follows the “Show not tell” rule. You get everything by his body language, voice and even hesitation in some situations. The show is much like Sergio Leones western where they speak not much but the scenery, mimic, expressions and pacing fills the gaps more than enough. Then there is the strong additional cast. Lets start with “Baby Yoda” who is named officially as the child but the first name sticks to the character and will be used. He is mostly practical effects by puppeteers and works amazing. Strong chemistry with the cast. Carl Weathers as leader of the bounty hunter guild is a master scoundrel, trickster and interesting character. IG-11 the bounty hunting droid steals the show and he won me over. Kuiil by Nick Nolte is another favorite. Great backstory, smart and a noble soul;“I have spoken”;-). With former rebel shock trooper Cara Dune played by Gina Carano we have a strong addition to the cast. She is smart, kicks as and will win you over easily. Bonus points for Emily Swallow as The Armorer, Giancarlo Esposito as Moff Gideon who you will love to hate and others I wont spoil. The story is pretty good and it gets better and better as new characters were introduced, you learn more backstories and the development / interactions start. It starts with the Mandalorian picking a special bounty hunt that is granted under the table. He did not know that this changes his life drastically. More I will not spoil. It is also the lore and world-building that improves the show. The Mandalorian codex (This is the way), the outskirts of the Star Wars galaxy that are mostly abandoned by law, the bounty hunters (and their guild) and the remains of the Empire are grabbing your attention. There are also underlying philosophical aspects that can be argued about. Good vs evil and shades of gray of this. Nature and nurture or parenting and family. The sets and special effects are also top notch and I think they did an excellent job. Overall this has hearth, soul, great characters and you always feel engaged and want more. Easily a 10/10 and I am hyped for season two. That is the way and I have spoken;-). Expand

There were definitely some great moments within Season 1, but unfortunately, these great moments were too few and far between. One of the biggest issues hands down is the acting which can range from tolerable to downright torturous at times- this is easily some of the worst acting performances we have witnessed in the Disney era, but there are definitely a few standout performances. In addition, the story with the exception of "the Child", who has been dubbed "Baby Yoda" isn't that interesting. I feel like The Mandalorian is about as generic as you can get which is a shame because overall it seems like a missed opportunity. Instead of interesting known Star Wars favorites such as Bossk, Boba Fett, IG-88, Dengar, etc we simply were given an unknown character who quite frankly isn't that special (or that interesting for that matter). This seems just like another attempt from Disney to bury just more of what George Lucas created and it doesn't work that well. Sure this offering is better than The Last Jedi, Attack of the Clones and the mediocre Solo film, but compared to other films within the Skywalker saga and compared to other Star Wars TV shows such as The Clone Wars and Rebels, The Mandalorian simply isn't the slam dunk that many people claim it to be. As a Star Wars fan, it is worth a watch, but it isn't really worth the cost of Disney+ subscription on its own merits. Expand

Excellent visuals, well played characters, and the series does not seem bothered by superfluous, too explanatory dialogue (like many other tv-series seem to be these days). TM is unique, well acted, well written and well produced to a level that you couldn't hope to see other than on a big budget movie. Jon Fraveau for me is one of the most underrated directors in Hollywood right now. He does his things and you get something nice and fun to watch, period. Pedro Pascal and everyone on the show are amazing, to the action scenes to the drama ones. One of the greatest show of the year no doubt.

But thisThe Mandalorian is easily the best Star Wars material Disney have ever produced since their acquisition of Lucasfilm. The new film trilogy and the Solo movie are all to be avoided like the plague, whereas Rogue One was pretty good. But this TV series is on a wholly another level. It's more like what Star Wars should be, than the Episodes 7/8/9 combined.

The Mandalorian is structured more like a western cowboy TV series than a space adventure. The titular Mandalorian (aka "Mando") played by Pedro Pascal is very reminiscent of Clint Eastwood's Man With No Name character from the Sergio Leone spaghetti western movies of the 1960s. Just like Eastwood's character lacked a name, Pascal's Mando constantly hides his face behind a helmet, adding to the surrounding mystery of who he is. Both characters are self-serving bounty hunters and very good sharpshooters. And when the need arises, they can be helpful to others as well.

This show introduced us to the Child aka "Baby Yoda" (later revealed to be named Grogu). The Child is an infant with latent Force powers who can help with the Force from time to time, and has to be returned to his people by Mando.

The Mandalorian series has also spawned several cultural memes, particularly the Mandalorian warriors' motto "This Is The Way", and The Child itself due to its cuteness.

So far there have been 2 seasons, both of them excellent. Can't wait for Season 3.

I expected nothing from the new Star Wars movies and series, and I were right in the main triology of Rei, but this one has it.
Yes, it has the essence of the old ages of Star Wars, where the galaxy was rich in especies, where the worlds of smugglers and bounty hunters were based on an old far west style and where the main characters are charismatic.

After three spectacular episodes and a trending little surprise, the show established itself in a more standard few episodes but turn again into a high level episodes in the ending (two last episodes), finishing the first season whith hype for the second one.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Season 1, is a great scifi. The story show us what is the Mandalorian creed. It gets many small things from various lore of Star wars. I like the fact that they took some times to show us more of the universe of SW. It is designed to be a western sci-fi with a good budget. The main character seems very simple but is complex like many of us. The asset is well done. All the secondary characters are often more interesting and offer a great support to the story. The effects are really good in space. More or less when it comes to the air flying. I give it a 90%. I felt it was a surprise that it was so good. Hopefully they can keep this up. Expand

It just gives the whole story more weight and you will connect better with characters, locations and story threads. If they keep the quality and don't bring in too much of the old lore (like connecting everything to every movie, book, video game...), I really see that tv shows suits Star Wars better than movies, especially if they are directed by people with so much passion and respect for the legacy. That's too bad because at the core this series is amazing. It shows a mature side of SW which isn't about the Jedi. The mandalorians have always been a great part of SW lore, and having one as main character is a dream come true. Again, the only negative is that the plot seems to be slow with lots of episodes not advancing the plot much, disparate in budget, and lots of the great episodes being the last 3 ones. I personally feel the best episodes are the contained ones which show the Mandalorian taking on a bounty hunting mission (there is one great episode with an ensemble cast where the Mandalorian has to break out a prison inmate).

Hopefully all this is fixed in season 2.

My main problem with the show though is it is somewhat predictable and it seems to take a lot of safe routes and episode 4 did seem to steal from a Star Wars the Clone Wars episode. But these problems are definitely easy to ignore since it's still so fun to watch and really well made! Definetly worth spending $7 to get Disney Plus. Expand

IfFinally, Star Wars is telling good stories again instead of making it all about the spectacle! I like almost everything about 'The Mandalorian' but then again the original trilogy was not perfect either, so it's almost as good as it gets! If I had any point of criticism, I'd say that when contrasting it with the movies it feels like it is lacking a bit. The budget that is. That is only a very minor point though because the CGI and the old-school style alien races blend together quite nicely all in all. The series has interesting ideas and subverts expectations on a small scale where it actually fits to keep the scenes fresh and the humor flowing. The music is good and very fitting. Heck, even the credits are nicely done! Great series! Must watch for every Star Wars fan and even non-sci-fi guys and gals can enjoy this. Take note future Star Wars movie directors! Expand

Had a good plot but there was no clear direction. It felt like it was slowing down during the middle three episodes but that doesn't mean they were bad. The main character the mandalorian is a great character that I enjoyed watching. The tone was a little inconsistent between episodes. For example a character would die at the end of one episode and the first scene in the next one there would be a VERY funny scene. The show overall added some great thing to the lore and expanded upon other things in the lore as well. The way they use the force was so amazing. Also baby Yoda might be the greatest character ever created in the star wars universe.
Overall, If you are looking a Clint Eastwood western in space with a high budget, cool characters, engaging story and Baby Yoda this is the show for you.

Now this is star wars, after the mess Disney made of the saga i'm surprised this turned out as well as it did. Small scale, action and good effects. Episodes 1-3 and 7-8 are the standouts with the middle ones being a bit slow and dull.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Oh baby. Dive into the Star Wars universe. Ok, there is no Darth Vader, no Skywalkers and we miss the Falcon, yet this hit the mark. I could give it a 10, but when I rank it next to The Empire Stikes back, it isn't there. It is in that conversation, though.

I got hooked when our Mandalorian started disintegrating Jawa's. It has the darkness of a bounty hunter story and the lightness of the animated series, which is evident in the writer & director team. This is by far the best addition to the SW franchise since the original 3 movies. Why so few episodes per season?!? Cost of course, but it pays off so well.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After the disastrous Star Wars movies this is the only thing left in our hands. It's feels like original Star Wars, some characters look serious, some of them look like real badass and some of them looks very funny, little mystery and action mixed with little drama and humor, just like old times. Sometime feels like old western movie but it's ok, because Mandalorian story about the "Bountyhounter" not about the Jedis or Siths, but after all the chapters we still didn't any answers (not even a little bit) about story. Why Mandalorian feels so attached to "Baby Yoda"? We saw some flashbacks from his childhood but that's it. Still doesn't make sense, why he suddenly changed his mind? What did he saw in "Baby Yoda"? And more importantly what is the story behind the "Baby Yoda"? Also Madalorian looks like needs new gadgets, something like jetpack maybe? Because after chapters and chapters his fighting style still looks same it became little bit repetitive scenes after watching couple of chapters... But don't get me wrong i loved Mandalorian, he is great Star Wars character, all I feel he looks like need some improvements, that's all.

Note: I heard some rumors about sjw guys actually trying to getting touch with the Mandalorian, are you guys NUTS? Aren't you guys done enough damage to Star Wars franchise? Man, I'm tired from this nihilistic sjw pricks! Stay away from the Mandalorian! Don't even dare to touch it! You guys are like midas, except everything you touch turns to **** don't you see?!

Anyway, i really liked the mandalorian especially theme music one of the best (at least for me), i hope mandalorian continue this way without doing any ridiculous/nonsense changes in story... Fingers cross, this is still Disney you know??

1. Many people give 10/10 to The Mandalorian just for Baby Yoda (I'm not)

The Mandalorian is probably the first Star Wars thing since Return of the Jedi That has accurately captured the look and feel of the original trilogy. The Force Awakens felt like it but didn’t really look like it, Rogue One looked like it but didn’t really feel like it, The Mandalorian does both! The action is thrilling, the episodes tell fun pulpy adventure stories with memorable new characters (with The Child - Baby Yoda - usually stealing the show), and it expands the lore of Star Wars in interesting ways. Some episodes go for long stretches with no dialogue, all visuals, very similar to Samurai Jack, but the show also feels like a spaghetti western. It is about bounty hunters and indigenous cultures and lawless, wild planets, after all. The effects are almost on-par with the movies, the music is probably the most interesting and unique Star Wars score ever written outside of the 9 movies, and it leaves you wanting more! This is my new favourite show, my favourite Star Wars project since Disney bought the franchise and it is well worth getting Disney+ for! This is the way. I have spoken. Expand

Unfortunately it becomesHaving finally watched the Mandalorian, I am pleased to announce that this is quite possibly my favorite piece of Star Wars media since the Original trilogy, although that doesn’t raise the bar exceedingly high. Unfortunately it becomes evident quickly that prior knowledge of the franchise, particularly the clone wars and rebels is required to understand many of the references, so despite the fact that this didn’t bother me, it might detract from the enjoyment of others. Pedro Pascal is absolutely phenomenal as a battle-hardened warrior with a strong moral compass, in fact he may be my favorite Star Wars protagonist to date, but once again protagonists have always been a weak point of the series so that doesn’t say much. To compensate for us never seeing his face, Pascal delivers a badass and also charismatic performance, which is always accentuated by Ludwig Göransson’s Kick-Ass score. The plot is pretty straightforward. Mando is a renown bounty hunter who after being sent on a rather questionable contract, begins to reconsider his loyalty to the bounty hunter’s guild. The series is only 8 episodes long, which is usually fine, but considering the episode lengths range from 30-40 minutes I’d say the show is a little on the short side. This is made worse by the fact that episodes 4-6 barely advance the story, which again wouldn’t be so much of a problem if it was a tad longer. This means that other than Mando, the majority of the characters, including the main villain (who isn’t even introduced until the penultimate episode), aren’t properly fleshed out. However, despite this I found myself caring deeply about the members of the supporting cast, particularly Gina Carano’s Cara Dune, and Carl Weathers’ Greef Carga. This is not because either of which are particularly well written, but because they are both extremely well acted. I mentioned before that episodes 4-6 stray from the plot, and therefore they are consequentially the weakest in the season. Episode 4 Is also a blatant rip off of Akira Kurosawa’s Seven samurai, a film which is given over 3 hours to develop its plot, whereas the mandalorian only has 30 minutes. However the saving grace of the episode is that it introduces us to Cara Dune, and therefore I am willing to forgive this. I believe Episode 6 takes inspiration from blade 2, as it features our protagonist teaming with those he would otherwise hunt, which leads to a predictable and inevitable betrayal, resulting in Mando facing each member of his team. Episode 5 is in my opinion the worst of the bunch, and the most heartbreaking thing about this is that it was directed by Dave Filoni. Nothing of interest happens throughout the entire episode, other than a short but sweet sniper hunt. Giancarlo Esposito also joins the show as an especially unmemorable villain, which is somewhat disappointing considering how amazing he was as Gustavo Fring (breaking bad), but to be fair there wasn’t a huge focus on him.
Now that all the bad is out of the way I can get onto more positives. The Mandalorian expands the lore in interesting ways, showing us more about life in the outer-rim, filling in the gaps of the Mandalorian’s (the creed, not the show) story, and providing some insight into how the galaxy evolved post empire. It’s also cool to see some really well filmed action sequences that don’t involve lightsabers for once. In conclusion the Mandalorian is a highly enjoyable ride from beginning to end, and despite its flaws, is generally one of the better pieces of Star Wars media. 9/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This feels like star wars. A totally new cast set in a familiar way. I like the cultural build up. The flashes of backstory. Pay attention Darth Kennedy they even put some strong women in the mix and I'll wager the mandalorian blacksmith is the stronest of them all. The episodes flow well off each other picking up just after one another. It's easy to forget it's a series, the production quality is in The realm of Game of Thrones. As a major star wars fanboy this makes me feel like maybe Disney hasn't driven the franchise completely to the dark side. Expand

So much potential here but apart from a select few episodes it seems the creators mailed it in and essentially went with the super hero formula. Why is there a need to make him so likeable with the whole I must save Grogu thing?

The first episode intrigued me as I thought opposed to some walk-on-water holier than thou Jedi the Mandalorian might be a more shades of grey relatable individual who begrudgingly must rely on others lest he face real peril like the Mudhorn. Instead most of the first two seasons is the superhero Mandalorian escaping certain doom time and again if for no other reason than the sheer haplessness of the Imperials. We can give the original movies a pass on this what being produced in the 80s and all but when a storm trooper with a blaster in hand runs right up behind the assailant rather than shooting them I just tune out. And could Moth Gidian and the Dark Troopers have been more of a let down? Why can't the Empire even the score, it worked fine in ESB. Also I get the whole girl-power thing but it's so overt in this show as to be off-putting. How many episodes have to involve Gina Corano's large posterior just so they can check the female hero box? Oh and the Asian assassin whose name escapes me and who has been on the lam in the dessert of Tattooine for weeks but has nary a blemish or stain on that super fashionable black jump suit that I am sure is well suited to the climate she finds herself in; yeah very believable. And the female blue Mandalorians../facepalm. And if we are so bent on girl-power why not inject even a hint of romance between one of them and the Mandalorian or do we just assume all the characters are a-sexual as their wardrobe choices suggest? Rebels and Imperials alike enjoy sitting back in the old canteen enjoying a Correllian Ale; don't any of them actually ever have sex? If that is the case how are there so many kids in that village that our superhero must save in that one forgettable episode. I give it a 6/10 as certain episodes like the Mudhorn and the sand dragon were very well done and movie quality. Also Werner Herzog was great in his limited role they should have utilized him more prominently.

I love science fiction, good science fiction, like Aliens. But this series is an utter bore fest. The plots, course of action and outcomes are childish and predictable. The dialogue is infantile. I guess since it's a Disney production it has to be family and immature. I mean the hero runs around in a helmet for crying out loud and never takes it off because, "It's the way". How silly is that. This has got to be the easiest role Pascal has ever played. The little, green Muppet has more character and expression and he/she doesn't even say a word. The level of futuristic tech is on the same level one would see in the 50's Buck Rogers television series. I guess the producers are keeping with the Stars Wars theme and Disney is keeping for the Mickey Mousketeers fan club, I guess I'll skip season 2 because this Disney production is just too corny and prepubescent for my taste. I did like the Easter eggs and the attention to the lore, but most all the introductions and additions felt forced and unnatural. Overall, it felt like a ploy to introduce more toys to sell. Of course with Star Wars you’re not going to get the most intelligent sci-fi and you’ll have to learn to suspend your disbelief, but to me this was just a little too much and just felt like convenient story telling. II think I finally understand what Star Wars fanboys want. They grew up on the Lucas films so they think great special effects with paint-by-numbers plots, amateurish acting at best, and laughably bad dialogue is what makes great content. I grew up on Star Wars and loved it, warts and all. This seems like real Star Wars but lacks the most important thing: fun. This was boring. And I mean, really boring. Like so boring that I watched the first two episodes when they came out and just stopped. And only finished the rest six months later when I was injured and had to stay on the couch all day. And even then it was a struggle to get through. At least one episode could easily have been an episode of Xena: Warrior Princess. The new film trilogy has LOTS of flaws. But there were times during that mess that I felt like what was going on mattered, at least a little. Nothing that happens in this show matters at all. And while Adam Driver was the only actor to put in a solid performance in the movies, everyone in the Mandalorian is terrible. I know Carl Weathers isn’t some great thespian, but Rocky at least shows that he has some ability. He was so bad in this I thought that maybe it was supposed to be funny. The MMA fighter was exactly as good as you would expect an MMA fighter to be. And Pedro Pascal was wearing a helmet at all times. You could have gotten that performance out of Cleverbot. Maybe season two will be better. The production values are there. If they improve the writing and the supporting cast, maybe this show has a chance. Im hopeful, but not optimistic. Jon Favreau has never shown me that he is better than this. Maybe Kenobi Will be better. At least Ewan McGregor is a decent actor. Expand

Oh, and most annoyingly of all is that everyone has a catchphrase which they use to death. There are also a few nice merchandising opportunities. It's like a long trailer for a video game - there's 'the cave' where you go to resupply, get power-ups, etc, a kind of skill tree as he gets new equipment, characters that will give you side jobs but still a main quest etc.

All in all, slow-paced and quite lame. And there's literally the worst lightsaber ever seen (seriously, was that CGI done by a child?).

The production quality is high. Almost as high as the movies. However, one major weakness is the short episode format that really makes any depth in the stories or character development totally impossible. All characters remain as flat as had they jumped of the empire state building and all their adventures remain incredibly simple.Just action,no time for mystery or exploration.
Then there is the total lack of imagination on the writer's/makers part. It's only episode five and how many time have we been on Tatooine? Isn't there any other planet out there? Keep milking the first two movies has its limits.
Then the haunting flaw of Star Wars was the attempts to turn it into a giant dales commercial for toys sold to primary school children. It became a kids show. At first it seemed that he Mandalorian would have a more adult vibe. But with episode five we are back at the full Jar Jar Binks level robots. And then there's is the cute Yoda baby. Okay for one or two episodes but unless it falls under the spell of the Sith and becomes the Dark Side's new hope for the next Emperor it is becoming really really annoying in a Wesley Crusher kind of way.
So it gets a 6. It's not totally hopeless, but if it continues to become more of a show for little kids I will drop out. Make it meaner and less save I will become more positive.

The show expects you to treat it like you've been invested in the story for a few years. It comes off as pretentious, and many of the scenes seem like a waste of time or like its skipping a lot of events that the viewer should see. The writing is somewhat lazy and leaves me wanting so much more, so instead of being satisfied after an episode, I resort to watching anything else to leave a better taste in my mouth. But it's early and Disney+'s first original. I would still give it a chance. Like I said, it's not boring. Newcomers to Game of Thrones often said that about the first couple of episodes. its a new tv show based on a major franchise without gender/race politics changing the entire idea of the universe it exists in. 10/10 just for that.

After the terrible new Star Wars movies I didn't think I'd enjoy Star Wars again, until now. Great series, I was like a kid again.

It is lower in budget and the episodes are unusually short but it is a good show. Some side characters are terrible actors, notably one episode involving a prison break in which there are too many bad actors on screen, this is why I didn't give this a 10. Usually the casting is quite good. After each episode I can't wait for the next. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Very good story concept established in season 1, with characters and atmosphere of its own. Why I'm not drawn to this show is because it caters to the hardcore Star Wars nerds. I grew up with Star Wars, but I don't have an unhealthy close-minded attachment and self-inclined ownership over the kind of Star Wars I demand for. The dialogue is very cheesy in an over-serious way that comes off as cringe. Mandalorian has some terrific set-pieces with an intriguing premise, but it's expanding on a lot of fan-fictional ideas that lack integral limitations.

So many fans complained about Disney's Star Wars sequel trilogy, especially toward Rian Johnson & JJ Abrams for not understanding the lore and undercutting its own legacy. Yet, all the whacked ideas in the expanded universe are not deemed mischief? I call that hypocrisy. Filoni and Favreau have done some good work, but they aren't innovators, but rather caterers of a socialist regime. Written and directed by.. The audience, for they dictate our philosophical approach.

I don't have an issue with nostalgia and fan service. Seeing Luke, Boba Fett and Ashoka throwdown is epic, but it's how the show is filmed where it loses me. It looks like a fan-film, shot by hardcore nerds. The framing is too tacky. The story is evolving into a pandering act of forgiveness. Season 1 I respected, season 2 is like a parent giving their kids all the candy instead of telling them to just take one. The show's ambiguous minimal journey of the bounty hunter and the child holds an emotional resonance between them. Other than that, you aren't missing much.

This is a mediocre show at best. At worst, it is a cynical effort to milk the fans of an incredibly popular series that is only remarkable for its popularity.

This show can be summed up in one quote from it:

Random Character: "Do you ever take off your helmet?"

Mandalorian: "Sometimes. In private. It's part of my religion".

Turned off the show right there. Minority pandering is killing disney.

Rather mediocre, I guess this could be due to the shortness of the episode but really it didn't excite at all, relied on lots of nostalgia and some nifty cinematography and special effects to carry a weak show and forgot to add a decent story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Mandalorian is a good show, I really wanted a star wars show the deals with the bounty hunter, clones wars the cartoon did a really good job with it, my problem is that the character is really boring and the idea the mandalorian don't Remove their helmet is really stupid, in the show rebel and clone wars they show mandalorian without their helmet. Production value seemed somewhat high in some cases... but everything felt rushed, cliche, simple and soulless. Lack of development leaves the viewer with little to be invested in other than the original mythology. Very disappointed if this is supposed to be Disney’s marquee offering for its new service. This show looks great. It costs 15 mil per episode and definitely looks it. It has the original Star Wars trilogy appearance with a wild Wild West feel. There are a handful of great visual decisions. Also, I don't want to spoil anything but be sure to see the ending credits.

The music is really, really good. Again blending Star Wars and the Wild West.

There is just some really good dialogue. Though this is a more serious SW entry like Rogue One, it also has some decent humorous lines. Since the titular Mandalorian is a man of few words, this is one of those shows that can do a lot with a little dialogue in parts.

Though the cast is mostly just the Mandalorian, we get an excellent rotation of likable characters and actors. You may see some faces you'll recognize and won't suspect. It's especially refreshing to see Carl Weathers (Rocky, Predator) back in the spotlight as the head of the mercenary guild.

There are a couple things that appear to be an issue for several people online. First off: though the show does have a narrative through line, there is a heavy emphasis on episodic stories. I guess some people who saw the trailers were expecting one big epic tale and were disappointed. Personally, I didn't mind as they were entertaining stories. Although, I wouldn't have appreciated a little more revelation for a mysteries that was introduced early on. (I hate it when we have questions all season long and realize we have to wait until at least another season for answers.) The finale serves as a pretty strong wrap-up.

Second: Short episode length, 30-43 min. Admittedly, it'd be nice to have more Star Wars content, but it's nice that the show is straight-to-the-point and doesn't feel like it's trying to fill time.

There are a couple other issues. There are two times where a couple story elements feel like straight up copies of existing western/samurai films. Also, there is an aspect of Mandalorian culture in this that seems to conflict with how we've seen them portrayed in Star Wars Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels without explanation. The fact that Dave Filoni, the showrunner of the two shows, is an executive producer, director, and writer on this which makes the difference even more surprising.

Jon Favreau (director of Iron Man and the recent Jungle Book) created this and he really brings his A-game. This is a highly entertaining, fairly quick watch, and I highly recommend this.
