I've watched the first 2 episodes. The world looks really good but that's about it. ALL the characters suck, the esthetics look like a high budget production but the actors make it feel like a low budget series you'd see late night on theI've watched the first 2 episodes. I honestly don't care about the diversity but It is pretty cringe when its so obvious when its purposely placed to check a box or quota. And for the ppl saying its getting review bombed by users, NO. Its getting the opposite by the critics because of the diversity they don't want to say anything bad about it because of the main female lead (whos a pretty bad actress) and the ppl of color. The mainstream critics will not say a bad word about it because of that and that alone. Its a real shame.… Expand

OK, it is not as it is portrayed here but it is still an abomination in terms of money spent, potential wasted and non-canonical approach. I will probably watch the rest but would not recommend it to anyone. I will watch it becouse I love cringe.

Absolutely disrespectful towards the Tolkien legacy, and I'd say it actually goes against all he loved and wrote about in his books. As a generic fantasy it would have been just mediocre; as a LotR series, it's a complete insult.

It appears the writers, director or producers never read or comprehended the works of Tolkien. Just pure Hollyweird PC garbage.
The actors are sub par, the storyline is so far off from Tolkiens work, is should not claim any connection to his works.

Sure, the sets and cinematography look stunning, sure it's a big budget fantasy series, but it stops there. The Showrunner had to change many aspects of LOTR lore to assert their own agenda that it totally ruined the show. They created and twisted existing characters so much that it's unrecognizable. If they didn't use LOTR and just created a totally new fantasy series, everyone wouldn't have any problem with it, but by doing show they just shot themselves in their foot. This defiantly doesn't feel like Tolkien's world. All the paid critics and bots working for Prime won't save this series, the fans have spoken, this is going to be the BIGGEST FLOP in Cinematic HISROY!… Expand

Galadriel: orribile come personaggio, egoista, vendicativa, sempre arrabbiata, quasi malvagia (ricordo che gli elfi di Tolkien sono creature di luce, quindi buoni) posso tranquillamente dire che se ci fosse un aspetto femminile di Sauron quello sarebbe sicuramente la Galadriel degli Anelli del potere, senza poi considerare quando è forte, quasi una dea, da sola ha ucciso un troll, quando nei film sempre un troll ha messo in serie difficoltà tutta la compagnia

Pure trash. Sad they spent a billion on this one. None of the characters are true to the book the LOTR is one of my favorites. I have watched every movie as well as played shadow of Mordor.

This is sure to be the best worst thing I saw this year.

This mockery of a series could only be a creation by committee, helped by Bezos inputs and checkmarks on a diversity quota checkboard. Are you searching for a soul here? You'll get none, but you'll get product. And boy, this product sucks.
From Gandalf Falling fron the skies on a capsule and lifting rocks with his KI, Dragonball Z's style, to Elfs that despite seeing in the darkness using lamps to light the way. The sheeer amount of nonsense is enough to make you laugh for one week. Best thing thogh, they release two episodes of this crap. Expect to be laughing until the second half of the month.
This is the best thing ever done. 10/10. Unless you're looking for a good show. Then, go see something else in another time, in another dimension. 2022 has nothing for you yet.… Expand

Characters are directly not related to the Tolkien versions of the same people. An absolute farce. Galadrial is in places she never was, doing things she never did... And saying words fundementally against what real Galadrial would say and do. Elrond is nothing but a lazy anti war Politician now... Not the greatest of the Elven Warriors to possibly ever exist... And it seems to absolutely ignore the fact Elrond is basically Galadrials Grandson and very much heeds her advice and wisdom... Not in this show. Just terrible... The molestation of Tolkien.… Expand

I am a Tolkien fan. Amazon should have made an original fantasy series of there own, instead they have created a woke abomination that spits in his face. Keep putting 10 ratings all you want. It is obvious what the vast majority thinks of this filth.

The only thing Tolkien about this, is the title. Should of just called it Dungeons & Dragons as it is a simple fantasy adventure lacking nuance or depth.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ep.3-4: Halfway through season 1 a short update. Did it get better? Not really, but it got a bit more interesting. While I hate Guyladriel with a passion, her Numenor storyline is kind of watchable. I actually enjoy the dwarfs, at least these grumpy guys have an attitude. Harfoots are unwatchable, episode 4 was the best so far, for the simple reason, it had none of these little cringe buggers. Don't know what to make out of the Arondil(?) story, it is dumb, but it has a few good scenes and I actually find Adar(?) intriguing. So what's keeping me from promoting this to a glorious 3 or even 4? Immigration politics, Numenors haven't seen elves in at least centuries, 5 minutes after seeing 1(!!!) they rant about losing their jobs to immortal, never tiring elf workers.

Ep.1-2: First of all, this thing looks really, really amazing, apart for a few moments, where it looks really cheap. That's kinda odd, so much money and armor looks like cheap plastic. All in all though, the look is too clinically clean, especially in battles, why is there no blood? I also like the soundtrack, it's good, not amazing, but good. I also have to say I like the idea, I kinda get what Amazon wanted to do, before they decided to hire an incompetent crew.

Everything else is... really bad. The whole story is rushed, after the prologue I had no idea what is going on and I feel, that a way better story (defeat of Morgoth) was wasted. Characters range from dumb to bland to fu... annoying (hello there harfoots), most dialogues are really hard to bear, so much cringe there. Many scenes are a disaster like free climbing an ice covered mountain in plate armor, or jumping of a ship in the middle of the ocean, or not leaving directly after an orc attack... Rings also follows a common trend these days, so far I have seen one unlikeable Mary Sue (hello there Galadrial) and one very strong women (hi Bronwyn) and an army of stupid, useless men. As a male viewer I can't help but feel insulted.

All in all, watch it for the eye candy it is, but don't do it sober. And don't expect to be entertained, maybe turn it into a drinking game? Every time you cringe, get a shot.… Expand

For any writer, this would be the most challenging task of their lives to stand in the ring with the Professor. It's painfully apparent that the production suffers from the Dunning-Kruger effect. The script is fraught with issues ranging from pacing, positioning, characterization, and pail attempts at sounding Tolkienian. Characters behave in ways that the plot demands but are unbelievable when you think about it. No sane person would attempt to swim across an entire ocean on their own!

The greatest flaw of this show is that it fails to be escapism. This is mostly the marketing's fault for being hyper-fixated on what should be the least important aspect of a fantasy journey. If RoP survives to future seasons, I can only hope that Amazon stops trying to lean on allegories to the modern-day as a crutch (and shield) for the subpar writing.… Expand
