This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

The story is all over the place, there are lots of characters who seem to serve no purpose for the story, instead the story seems to bend over backwards to serve the justification of characters being there. I thought Galadriel was supposed to be the main character, but after the introduction she just seems to drift from scene to scene doing stuff that serves no purpose to the development of the story while we are watching some b-plots that spawn from unnecassary fabricated conflict and go nowhere. I would be %100 ok if this show did not jump to conflict and took the time to show us characters in their daily lives (its supposed to be an "era of peace") so we get to know them, and the world. But no characters are stuck trying to overcome pointless obstacles in arc that lead nowhere.

Dumb, boring for long stretches, most characters are unlikeable and the dialog is cringe worthy. Was hoping for so much more.

Elves are no longer sophisticated and unearthly, now they are just dudes and chicks with pointy ears. This series is a slap in the face of fans of both the books and the Jackson trilogy. It's the same crap as the Hobbit trilogy was. Expand

It is exactly the cancer we expected. I don't blame the people trying to get a paycheque like the actors but this is Tolkien in name(/s) only. No Mention of Celeborn, Galadriel’s husband and confidant either.

Galadriel is rewarded by Gilgalad with the gift of returning home to Valinor. The gift is not his to give her as only the Valar can give her that and, in fact, they already did. After the War of the Wrath the Noldor were pardoned by the Valar, this included Galadriel, Elrond, and Gilgalad but they all chose to stay in Middle-Earth anyway. I could go on endlessly about all of the facts they got wrong and the ones they made up but it all boils down to this: this is not Tolkien

Despite the alleged 1 BILLION dollar budget the props and costumes are barely above community theatre fair. What the show runners have managed to do is capture the spirit of Tolkien. The careful world building and slow unfolding of each character’s thread shows how much respect this show has for its audience. It’s clear the show runners approached the material with the same devotion to beauty and love as their protagonists, who are charismatic and very well acted. The folks panning this show for straying from the source material clearly love the canon and want to defend it. But consider how miraculous this show appears in an environment of formulaic, adrenalized big budget shows that sacrifice moral imagination for intensity, or Amazon’s own Wheel of Time series, which has deconstructed its source material to the point of being almost unrecognizable. This is a rare show, precious! I hope the fandom eventually embraces this show; we need more fantasy like this. Expand

I find the show quite dull and boring, very hard to feel invested in the characters as a lot of the acting seems very wooden. The story doesn't flow, it seems disjointed and the pacing also seems off, very difficult to remain engaged.

The casting was weird (high king looks like the high accountant), the story was all over the place, I still don't know what's going on, etc etc. looks fine but doesn't have any substance, and visuals can only carry so much. maybe it'll get better for now it's bad and stop changing the stories and pushing agendas on people this is a fantasy world.

This is infuriatingly bad. It is an utter insult to Tolkien, his works, his beliefs, morals and his fans! Political virtue signalling creating this disgrace! This treats Tolkiens works especially the Silmarillion with utter contempt as these hacks try to 'improve' one of if not the greatest linguist and fantasy writer in history! It's outrageous!

    A waste of resources.

LotR:RoP has no story to tell. The amount of meaningfull events, big or small, that happen in two hours of screentime is negligible. Nothing happens and nothing is shown. Literally. It's not "slow paced", it's not "epic" - the show just stalls and wastes your time with nothing of any possible substance, scenic or grand nothing at best. LotR:RoP has no characters

LotR:RoP has no characters to show. If there were at least characters, the story would shape itself from their interactions. But Galadriel is described in a few words and has no depth whatsoever, I mean not even human being level of depth. There're a couple of guys and gals who almost can pass as characters, and there're a couple of characters who look genuinely alive and are fun to be around.

With no story and no characters, what is left?

Not commenting on whether it's woke or why they used black actors in a European fantasy counterpart, but I just foubnd this show to be shallow and boring. I've read the appendix and imo Amazon are doing a poor job adapting it. It's a shame.

Adar’s début drips with signifiers. ... When Adar informs Arondir in Episode 4 that he has been told many lies, some that “run so deep even the rocks and roads now believe them,” it is still a thrill. Tolkien succeeded in creating a mythic world, one that has now grown vast enough through acts of typological repetition and imitation to conquer television, too.

With war brewing and the forging of the rings seemingly still far off, the first half of The Rings of Power’s first season constitutes little more than stage-setting for the struggle to come. Given the lack of quests and central commanding figures, it often makes for less-than-gripping drama. However, given that there are four more seasons already planned, and potentially dozens of new characters to be introduced, the slow and throat-clearing build is possibly a good sign.
