    The show is worse when it moves away from the game's writing, but its insulting when they copy pasted some dialogues just to add a silly line between and change the whole spirit of the scene. Theres laziness doing the show, with a lot of passivity for the details of the original script. The lack of zombies is due to lack of budget in producers words, not due to creative design, is pure medicrity.

    The atmosphere and environment is almost identical with the game. The sound design is so good, I can hear baby crying and people shouting behind the wall. The set is awesome, specially when the outbreak begin. Pedro pascal is great as Joel, and so does Bella as Ellie, the both great. And all the other support cast also very talented.     Always trust HBO with the adaptations, they are simply the best in quality.
    While the original videogame's story beats remain the same it feels so much expanded. Pedro and Bella are perfect as Joel and Ellie. Can not wait for the next episode.

    The camera viewing, sometimes purposely identical as in the game, is very well done, just as it should be and not excessive.
    With all the past failure of game adaptions seen on screen, this show confirms that the involvement and direction of the original game creator is absolutely necessary in order to recreate, at least partially, the feeling experienced when playing the original game.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a big fan of the game, I can say that it was an excellent adaptation, very good performances and the setting is worthy. When they announced that Pedro Pascal will be Joel, I loved it, however, at first, I didn't like the choice of Bella Ramsey as Ellie, however, with the first trailer, I realized that it was an excellent decision. Now with the premiere of the first episode, I can prove how good the cast is. As much as the appearance is not the same, they have faithful personalities, for example, that their personality is identical to the game, enabling one of the most impactful scenes in the game, and probably in the series. Pedro Pascal was incredible, in the first episode, he showed what a good actor he is. The interactions between Tess and Joel were better, mainly for showing more of what it's like to be a smuggler.
    Thus, Ellie Williams is introduced, as a 14-year-old girl, with a great purpose, and Joel and Tess must take her to a group of terrorists, known as the Fireflies.
    I need to emphasize that the series does not focus only on being faithful to the game, but also on being realistic, especially in the excellent beginning of the series, showing an interview in the 60s, where an epidemiologist talks about the risk of fungi like Cordyceps, evolving and starting to infect humans due to global warming.
    The soundtrack made by Gustavo Santaolalla is perfect just like in the game.
    Conclusion: An excellent first episode, being a faithful and beautiful introduction, even for people who haven't played the game.

    As an emotional and deeply invested fan of the video game series, the prospect of bringing this to television format has a very high bar to clear for me. I am happy to report that it's kick off not only met but also exceeded my expectations!

    Great pilot. They were really loyal to the source material and even enhanced it in some places. Prologue was better than the game in my opinion. Starring characters are very good for the job. Looking forward to next episodes!

    I was enjoying the show for the first 2 episodes but it went full woketard in the 3rd episode. There is no reason for this episode to even exist. The show runner decided Joel and Elle needing a car needed to be spun into an hour long meaningless love story that had nothing to do with the show. My opinion has absolutely nothing to do with the gay aspect either. I would feel the exact sameI was enjoying the show for the first 2 episodes but it went full woketard in the 3rd episode.     Amazing cast, amazing story, so well written and a story amazingly told. Is incredible to see the videogame come to life in such amazing detail. Pedro and Bella are amazing as Joel and Ellie. Can’t wait to see the rest of the episodes!

    I can understand why people who haven't played the original material are not as excited as me for this but giving it under 5 is just laughable. This was good from start to finish. I hope the same tension stays for the whole series.

    Loved the first Last of Us game. I watched the first 2 episodes of the show and thought ok a bit boring but decent enough. Then came episodes 3. One hour and 20 mins of complete filler. I had to fast forward most of it as it was so boring. What a let down.

I like the fact that they changed the race of Joel's daughter and that she is black now ! Pedro Pascal is really good as Joel also.

    The only "bad" thing that I could think of is that sometimes, I'm not sure why, in some shots, Bella Ramsey makes me think of Gollum from The Lord of The rings... it's maybe from the way she moves or something.    … Expand

    It captures all the essence of the video game and masterfully transfers it to the series format. The additions help to get to know the characters better. With Arcane and Cuphead, one of the best video game series. The Last of Us is made with love and respect for the original material.

    I absolutely loved the first two episodes, but everything came to a screeching halt with episode three. Just an incredibly boring relationship centric episode with very little action or anything meaningful to move the plot along. I was sleeping halfway through, re-watched it just to make sure, almost fell asleep again. Please go back to telling the story as it was intended to be told.     I really disliked this series. It’s not loyal to the original content, plus it’s poorly written in some situations like: “the fungi can’t survive in temperatures above 35°C” ~ “The ‘global warming’ will make the fungi to adapt and evolve.” Such dialogue doesn’t make sense. Plus this series is full of w0ke things. It doesn’t deserve our attention.

    From casting, set designs, writing, OST, etc, HBO hit it out of the park. Everyone feels like the characters they are portraying without replacing their VAs from the video games. Don’t believe the “anti-woke” mobs of incels who are upset that this show is being well received.

    The Last of Us is a faithful adaptations that anyone can enjoy, even if you have no experience playing the games.

    I can't believe the reviews on this site and others. No way is this terrible show an 8.1 out of 10. I hope the reviewers were paid handsomely.

    The story is slow and boring. The actors have been casted so badly its an achievement to be honest. I dont know how you can get so many characters so very wrong. I wouldnt mind if the actors were good solid choices, but they are so bad in    I can't believe the reviews on this site and others. No way is this terrible show an 8.1 out of 10. I hope the reviewers were paid handsomely.

    The story is slow and boring. The actors have been casted so badly its an achievement to be honest. I dont know how you can get so many characters so very wrong.

    Not too long ago, you could take a single look at the overall ratings from metacritic, imdb, etc and at a glance tell whether a tv show or movie was great, good, mediocre, or awful. Precisely because these ratings were genuine.    Metacritic and all other review websites have lost all credibility with these endless "10/10 AWESOME!!! EXCELLENT!!! BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD!!!" reviews.

    Not too long ago, you could take a single look at the overall ratings from metacritic, imdb, etc and at a glance tell whether a tv show or movie was great, good, mediocre, or awful. Precisely because these ratings were genuine. Now every bland piece of garbage (except something that's almost a crime against humanity like Velma), is a masterpiece according to these websites.

    A very well made adaptation which is clearly made as a labour of love. The acting duo of Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey will rightly get their props but my favourite aspect of the show has to be its production. Boasting gorgeous scenes full of superb settings and fantastic cinematography it really pulls you into the world of The Last of Us. There are some bits of writing that I found flowedA very well made adaptation which is clearly made as a labour of love.     I really hope this to be the best adaptation of the videogame, but after already in to more than half the show, its clear that they downgraded the story and made it for casuals and tv consumers with low standards.

    6 its a good punctuation for this series comparing to other tv shows, but it doesnt live up to the video game, also the lack of infected in a lot of the portion of the show (of the first 5 ep, only in 2) makes the world of this adaptation to be a walk on the park compared to the video game, they could at least put them in the background or in stealth scenes.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Joel dies early in season 2. Just in case you don't know. As a huge fan of the first game, I was excited for this season. Then it quickly became obvious that, just like with the second game, the team involved in adapting this story have again decided to focus on all the unimportant, trivial aspects of the story. To give you an example, there isn't a single straight white man in the show that isn't evil lol. Episode 3 is nothing but Ron Swanson making out with another guy with a big beard, the whole episode. They completely forgot to introduce Bill since they were so caught up in telling us about his boyfriend and how much they love rubbing their beards together. I was invested, but episode 3 took me out. No need to tune in on Sundays anymore. I don't know who they made this show for, but whoever they are, I hope they love it lol.… Expand

Today, it has to be at least equal or better or it's just another beyond-tired zombie show. Hopefully, it'll win me over in the coming weeks and I'll alter this review/rating.

    Episode 3:
    As agenda-pushing at it felt, I wouldn't have been okay with it if they were straight either. It was a perfectly fine "filler" type episode..but damn, they're telling the entire 1st game's story in just 9 episodes and they're "wasting" it with stuff like this?

    There are only 6 episodes left... But gaining brownie points is higher on the list than telling the game's main story I suppose.    … Expand

    Good stuff. Episode one was a great and subtle initiation to the series. I have not played the game, but I can see how this story pulls you in. I love the origin of the virus, it's very original compared to other "zombie" series. Looking forward to the rest of the season.

Theres no whites in this world, or maybe they were the only ones that could been infected, but cant be that cuz in a show about infected humans theres none in screen time, so could be that white people got infected by melaninus incrementinus.

    Overall disappointing, the game story is great, they didn't have to make changes, but the worst part is the casting, the girl playing Ellie is nothing like Ellie in the game. Just play the game, don't watch the series.

    Pedro Pascal, Gabriel Luna, Anna Torv, Merle Dandridge are great. Nico Parker as Sarah is perfect, I like her acting and I wish she played Ellie. But not Bella Ramsey. Bella Ramsey doesn't play Ellie, she plays Abby.
