    From casting, set designs, writing, OST, etc, HBO hit it out of the park. Everyone feels like the characters they are portraying without replacing their VAs from the video games. Don’t believe the “anti-woke” mobs of incels who are upset that this show is being well received.

    The Last of Us is a faithful adaptations that anyone can enjoy, even if you have no experience playing the games.

    Xbox user are so desperate with "0" reviews kkkkkk... Just like the Game, this first episode was a lesson in how to make an adaptation. Even though some characters are quite different physically from the game, the actors are very talented and bring that "affliction" from the the first game.

    It dragged so long! I don't recognise the two main stars as Joel and Ellie. They are completely different. They have changed so much that this is the Last of Us in name only.

    You could see the money spent on this, and the acting and actors were good, the problem was that it was similar in many ways to The Walking Dead - the collapse of society, fascist government, small groups trying to survive, they mentioned slavers and raiders etc.

    this show is ok. It is not groundbreaking masterpiece or horrible velma level garbage, but it made me like tlou games less. It made me realize how much of a burden gameplay really is in TLOU games. It is sad because I really like story of tlou games, but now when I look back where is no need to play tlou games when show exists. This makes me really sad honestly.

    Can't wait for other episodes. This was a well-done tribute to the game, with plenty of the original things that made it one of the best story games out there, with also new things to look forward to in the future. Pedro is killing it as Joel!

    It's really absolutely not good, I won't watch the other episodes any further, oh and just by the way the episode was really boring, thank you very much for 80 minutes of pure boredom, it was really worth it

    Excellent script, attractive characterization, excellent design and sound. I remember almost everything that happens in the Part I of the game. I was excited to see the series. Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey are great. They are Joel and Ellie themselves, who stepped into the real world from the game world. The atmosphere was very game-like and everything conveyed that feeling well. I can'tExcellent script, attractive characterization, excellent design and sound. I remember almost everything that happens in the Part I of the game. I was excited to see the series. Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey are great.     Because the rest is the hammer. it is very close to the narrative of the original (So far, of course, changes theringegen I share later). Joel is played great as well as tess. Marlene should be clear to all fans.

    With all the past failure of game adaptions seen on screen, this show confirms that the involvement and direction of the original game creator is absolutely necessary in order to recreate, at least partially, the feeling experienced when playing the original game.    … Expand

But I did not enjoy the first episode, I was actually a little bored. Everything after Sarah's death was a bit mind numbingly boring. The best part of the show was Sarah, she did a great job, but everything else kinda just sucked.

    Amazing cast, amazing story, so well written and a story amazingly told. Is incredible to see the videogame come to life in such amazing detail. Pedro and Bella are amazing as Joel and Ellie. Can’t wait to see the rest of the episodes!

    Is it exactly perfect, how I would do it, casting the actors I would chose? No. But as far as video game adaptations go it is far and away the best there has ever been. 10/10, extremely well done.

    Good stuff. Episode one was a great and subtle initiation to the series. I have not played the game, but I can see how this story pulls you in. I love the origin of the virus, it's very original compared to other "zombie" series. Looking forward to the rest of the season.

    This is a great adaptation, Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal are amazing as Ellie and Joel. There are many identical scenes and there is gaps from the game filled by the tv show that only adds more depth to the characters and the story

    When I see a minor role cast really well - I have a feeling that a production is going to be very good... because corners are not cut, and quality is important to the people working on the film. So, when a minor role like "Sarah" is cast perfectly with someone like Hana Hayes I anticipate a high-quality product.

    HBO turns out high quality films - so, it is no surprise to see this one well reviewed... like deciding if the latest HBO film is going to be a 7, a 10 or something in-between is foregone conclusion.

    I'm guessing Pedro Pascal as Joel and Anna Torv as Tess are going to be almost always regarded as very good casting. But, Bella Ramsey as Ellie is probably going to be controversial. I'm guessing the producers were looking for a tough, un-feminine personality and somewhat boxed themselves into those limiting criteria. Anna Tov obviously falls into that type-cast. I'm guessing Bella Ramsey will do a good job... but, I'm thinking the producers are trying too hard to toughen up the character.

    I know from experience that you can't judge a film series by the first episode. Especially the first episode which basically has the purpose of setting up the remainder of the series. By the time I've watched the first season, I may come back and change my score. Same thing when I've watched the entire series.

    By the way, I've never played the game - so, I had no preconceptions - which would be irrelevant regardless.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Firstly, I’d like to say that I’ve only watched the first episode. That said, I’ll not spoil anything for anyone, although I will emphasise that the first episode is similar to the game, while there are slight changes here and there.

    So, I was lucky enough to watch the first episode in 4K, and may I add that I was pleasantly surprised! I was able to watch a beautifully crafted episode, which resonated with the game, not identically, but enough so that I knew where the episode was going in relation to the game. However, while completing the game over 15 times, learning each segment of the game, and memorising each interaction almost word for word, it didn’t spoil my viewing experience at all.

    The first episode is based on how the world was, how it developed into an apocalypse and the processes in between. It was refreshing as I got a glimpse of life before the outbreak in The Last of Us universe.

    While the episode was entertaining, there weren’t many ‘scary’ bits. I felt the zombie scenes were too reserved, but I suppose I have that to look forward to next week.

    All in all, the first episode had me gripped. There were very similar nuances that were true to the game, while some aspects were changed.

    I’m pretty happy to give the first episode a strong 10/10.    … Expand

    Always trust HBO with the adaptations, they are simply the best in quality.
    While the original videogame's story beats remain the same it feels so much expanded. Pedro and Bella are perfect as Joel and Ellie. Can not wait for the next episode.

Joel, Sarah and Tommy look like they are from three different continents! They are related by blood! At least cast people who look a bit alike if they are to be brothers, daughters, etc. Pedro tries his best, but he is not able to pull off Joel with conviction. And Bella Ramsey is simply not right for the role of Ellie. She was overacting in almost all her scenes. They really should have cast actors based on their acting skills instead of popularity.

    Another concern is the story. Beneath the glossy high budget HBO production, this is still the same old zombie tale. And video games in general aren't made to translate well to tv/movies.
    Whether they can keep it interesting or it fizzles out into another bland tv show without any substance, remains to be seen.    … Expand

    Great pilot. They were really loyal to the source material and even enhanced it in some places. Prologue was better than the game in my opinion. Starring characters are very good for the job. Looking forward to next episodes!

I tried to like it but it falls so short I just couldn't. I rolled my eyes when the fungus was blamed on climate change. The writing and casting are the weakest links, followed by the directing. The opening of the original game is stunning and has a dramatic impact on the viewer. In the TV show on the other hand, it is completely watered down and diluted so it loses most of that impact. The main players are badly miscast and neither look nor act the part. Also they mumble their lines regularly which is a failure of the director. Pacing is slow, too much talking but not saying anything. Sarah is unlikeable and spends her time scowling, hostile and angry, nothing like the pleasant daughter of Joel in the game. The original game's voice actors for Joel and Ellie are light years ahead of their counterparts in the TV show. And then to the worst part, the complete miscasting of the most important character, Ellie. The casting director should look for a new career.… Expand

Podríamos decir que estamos ante una obra bastante revolucionaria en cuanto adaptaciones de videojuegos a series respecta, ya que el tan aclamado y galardonado director de chernobyl, se atrevió a ir más allá de las fronteras y expandir la famosa historia de los iconicos personajes de Joel y Ellie, dándonos así otra perspectiva del juego y ofreciéndonos detalles únicos que nos ayudan a empatizar más con los personajes y entender mejor ciertos matices de la historia. Algunas escenas como la muerte de Sarah, son ligeramente modificadas para que el espectador veterano de la saga de videojuegos the last of us no tengan la sensación de estar viendo lo mismo que en el juego. El factor Neil Druckman en la serie de televisión es bastante notorio, dándole así un sabor fresco a la serie pero sin salirse de las pautas del juego orginal.     It captures all the essence of the video game and masterfully transfers it to the series format. The additions help to get to know the characters better. With Arcane and Cuphead, one of the best video game series. The Last of Us is made with love and respect for the original material.

    I played The Last of Us Part 1 many years ago on the PS3. It was one of those life changing experiences that will stick with me forever. One of the best stories ever told in entertainment IMO. I’ve come back to it on every generation of consoles since to relive the excellence of the story telling. Changes have been made, but not mindless changes just to be noticed and different. The changes that have been made were deliberate and calculated. Would people rather have a perfect visual representation of the fictional character, or would they rather have someone who can portray the character convincingly?     The tone of this show so far has been as perfect as it can be. The acting is great. The beginning setup to how this fungus could possibly do this is unsettling. Knowing what is coming in the story makes me excited to watch more.

    Such a great adaptation; adding little parts to add more depth to the story but still stay true to the source material is a triple A series in my eyes. so far the casting has done an exceptional job bringing they’re characters to life especially Pedro Pascal and I’m looking forward to the remaining episodes.

    Suffering somewhat from comparisons to Station Eleven, The Last of Us premiere is at least propulsive, exciting and disturbing. Hopefully it can shed its shades of The Walking Dead and reach Station heights.

    Absolutely fantastic. Everything about the show is incredible. I can’t believe I was an Xbox fan for so long. PlayStation studios is god tier, and their narratives transcend mediums to reach broader audiences and all halo did was show us chiefs back side.

    All the scenes do not look very realistic, the apocalypse is not felt. The cast does not match the original. Fake ratings 10/10 does not correspond to reality, the series is not based on a game, but on some kind of illusion

    Very good start(i will update the score after every episode of needed) the acting was great. Didn't hit as hard as the game but that might be because i knew what was going to happen. Still a really promising start and hasn't wait to watch the rest of the season.

    I think it laughable that all the worst reviews in this are because Sarah isn't white.. I'm no means woke, but get it together with your BS.. So far Episode 1 has been good.

    Different in places from the game we all adore, but it works well and I appreciate the longer run time very much, its good to see a production company not cram as much as they can in to 48 minutes every episode.

    I were very sceptic regarding this show, as I absolutely love the video game.
    However, after seeing the Pilot episode, I'm overwhelmed.
    There are enough new scenes and changes to make the show interesting and fresh, even thou I know the game inside and out, but at the same time keeping everything that was important the first 2-3 hours from the game.     I mean I love the games...really, one of my favorites of all time....this Series is top class. I love the cast, a little bit different but you still feel "home", I like those little additions to the game, this brighter view on the whole thing.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Abby kills Joel in the second game and Ellie let her go when she has the opportunity to kill her and I really hope they will change this part in the TV show because I didn't like it.

    Pedro is good as Joel in the show, but something feels weird with Bella as Ellie (also because she looks like she is 20+ years old when she is supposed to be a teenager).

    As always, Neil (the creator of the game and show) is focusing more in the wokeism than in the actual show (same for the games).    … Expand
