    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a big fan of the game, I can say that it was an excellent adaptation, very good performances and the setting is worthy. When they announced that Pedro Pascal will be Joel, I loved it, however, at first, I didn't like the choice of Bella Ramsey as Ellie, however, with the first trailer, I realized that it was an excellent decision. Now with the premiere of the first episode, I can prove how good the cast is. As much as the appearance is not the same, they have faithful personalities, for example, that their personality is identical to the game, enabling one of the most impactful scenes in the game, and probably in the series. Pedro Pascal was incredible, in the first episode, he showed what a good actor he is. The interactions between Tess and Joel were better, mainly for showing more of what it's like to be a smuggler.
    Thus, Ellie Williams is introduced, as a 14-year-old girl, with a great purpose, and Joel and Tess must take her to a group of terrorists, known as the Fireflies.
    I need to emphasize that the series does not focus only on being faithful to the game, but also on being realistic, especially in the excellent beginning of the series, showing an interview in the 60s, where an epidemiologist talks about the risk of fungi like Cordyceps, evolving and starting to infect humans due to global warming.
    The soundtrack made by Gustavo Santaolalla is perfect just like in the game.
    Conclusion: An excellent first episode, being a faithful and beautiful introduction, even for people who haven't played the game.

    From casting, set designs, writing, OST, etc, HBO hit it out of the park. Everyone feels like the characters they are portraying without replacing their VAs from the video games. Don’t believe the “anti-woke” mobs of incels who are upset that this show is being well received.

    The Last of Us is a faithful adaptations that anyone can enjoy, even if you have no experience playing the games.

    It seems that we are in a golden age for videogame adaptations, just like Arcane and Edgerunners, i think that this show (at least episode 1) faithfully captures the essence of the original game while improving some stuff. I consider that the virus is a lot more interesting here than in the original game, and a lot scarier to.     Its been a while since I have cried due to a tv show and this show keeps getting me there with its amazing acting. I haven't played the games but I thought I knew what to expect. I was was thoroughly surprised at how invested I got in characters after only one episode. I don't have a single complaint.     Stick it in my veins it's so good. Action, emotion, depth it's got it all and delivers on every front with superb performances carrying the entire show. Somehow this dystopian, traumatic story which keeps you tense and on edge manages to also be a cosy enjoyable watch?! Credit to the chemistry between Bella and Pedro in achieving that. Okay it's a tad video gamey at points and is almostStick it in my veins it's so good. Action, emotion, depth it's got it all and delivers on every front with superb performances carrying the entire show.     Great adaptation of the game and very close to it. Absolutely phenomenal!! Finally a show and game not about zombies, but about an existing fungus in our nature already. As a fan of the game the show couldn't be better. Visuals, set, casting, performances and pacing are all great. 2nd episode got even better. whohhooo :-)

    HBO has managed to nail the essence and it has been made into a great TV series.

    I plan to watch this again in 4K, episode 1 is very well made.

    I think it laughable that all the worst reviews in this are because Sarah isn't white.. I'm no means woke, but get it together with your BS.. So far Episode 1 has been good.

    Different in places from the game we all adore, but it works well and I appreciate the longer run time very much, its good to see a production company not cram as much as they can in to 48 minutes every episode.

    Such a great adaptation; adding little parts to add more depth to the story but still stay true to the source material is a triple A series in my eyes. so far the casting has done an exceptional job bringing they’re characters to life especially Pedro Pascal and I’m looking forward to the remaining episodes.

What’s the point in watching a brand-new SHOW simply BASED on the original game if you resent every alteration made? The show does a great job of taking the most interesting action pieces of the game, and turning them around to fit the TV pacing.     This is precisely how I pictured an adaptation of the game. It's going to be one hell of a ride! And be prepared for surprises because the first episode showed us more of the world, and the story went differently in some parts.     The show is best when it actually moves away from the game's writing. Love the attention to detail in almost every scene, the call backs and easter eggs. Funny, producers have figured out that a zombie show works best [and cheaper] with less zombies and better acting, kinda like Walkin Deader, but you know, with better acting and writing.

    If you've played the game or just watched the stitched-up movie, cut scenes. I'll tell you this much, the father and daughter moment in the beginning where Joel becomes Joel was shot for shot from the game! That moment made me cry again, it was just like the first time I saw it from the movie game cut scenes. I was speechless throughout most of the whole episode. The race swaps were fine,If you've played the game or just watched the stitched-up movie, cut scenes. I'll tell you this much, the father and daughter moment in the beginning where Joel becomes Joel was shot for shot from the game! That moment made me cry again, it was just like the first time I saw it from the movie game cut scenes. I was speechless throughout most of the whole episode. The world depicted is appropriately bleak and desolate, with the lurking infected just out of peripheral vision. The set pieces are excellent, eerie and evocative - rivalling the depressing vistas of The Road. As usual, we see that human evil continues to thrive in the last strongholds of humankind, a classic disappointment. We cannot resist turning to tyranny at the first possible chance, with the silent majority of the remnant minority allowing evil to rise. This is also the age of Pedro Pascal, the everyman thespian who slides effortlessly into every single role he plays. What a tour de force - he depicts a broken warrior with smoothness and credibility. A man seeking redemption in the face of a lifetime of sin. Bella Ramsey is brilliant, insightful, stinging and delightful. I expect huge things from this fantastic actor - she will continue to bowl us over for decades. She shows tremendous bravery and courage in every scene, a fitting role. There is no doubt every single episode of this masterpiece is well crafted and thought out, and delivers maximum emotional impact. There are no fake emotions here, each well-cast actor plays their role with genuineness and frankness. The extremely difficult choices of the final episode leave a ringing sound in my mind.     A lot of violent moments were cut from the series, and a lot was done with the transition to blackout, which is a little strange in an adult story about the apocalypse, they also changed some plot points, but they are not critical, as a whole, the series is interesting to watch

    I can understand why people who haven't played the original material are not as excited as me for this but giving it under 5 is just laughable. This was good from start to finish. I hope the same tension stays for the whole series.

    Great pilot. They were really loyal to the source material and even enhanced it in some places. Prologue was better than the game in my opinion. Starring characters are very good for the job. Looking forward to next episodes!

    "She doesn't look like Ellie!" = They wanted to fantasize about an underage actress, but now they can't.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. i've been waiting a few episodes to see how i felt. after the 5th im in, fully committed. ellie took a little to win me over but i think that was just progression for the show. acting, sets, costumes, sound, the general ambiance of the world, the horror aspects, they are just nailing all the important elements of the first game while putting their own spins on smaller details. i really hate seeing the weird complaints but specifically about sarah seems strange. not even going to re type their reason but its not an issue the actress does every bits as good a job as the game portraying that emotional scene and all the added scenes with her were great. if you forced me to be petty i would say sarah is slightly too old compared to the game, but joels older so sarah is too. henry and sam, damn that was harder to watch for some reason. the 2 actors were very good and the impact their characters left on ellie and joel is felt immediately as the episode closes. im hopeful now as someone who doesn't love part 2's story that they will be able to tell it in a way fans like myself will be able to connect to and receive better than the game. it may not live up to the game in the end but this is easily the best show i've seen since breaking bad or early season of game of thrones.… Expand

    Much more than that.

    Already in the first part, he deepens and conveys the character in such a way that there is no scene where we don't get goosebumps from the bone-shaking performance of the now still real butt-head teenager.

    Regardless, there will surely be people who will be shocked by what they already knew: he is not a baby face, but it is not that you cannot say a bad word about his game, it is as visceral as if he had just jumped out of the game. What a miracle he does with the character.

    Joel is awesome too.

    Pedro plays Joel with perfect style and voice.

    His game is unquestionable. The mood is largely given by his broken, tormented, but strong features. Just like in the first part of the game. And he does this without any clichés.

    This is what I dare to say that a mannered Buttler or Jackman would not have been able to do.

    Pedro is at the top and here he proves that he is not without merit.

    What was even more surprising: Gabriel Luna.

    This dude does Tomm's voice like he's the original one, from the game! For real!

    His performance rivals that of Pedro. He really caught the thread and is an incredibly lovable character.

    For me, he became the most likable.

    Marlene give exactly what she's do in the game. Nothing special. Just professionalism. It can be seen that: she already know this inside and out.

    Was there anything I didn't like? Yes.

    Just a few things. But it was.

    Robert's character, for example, was like that.

    But I can't say more without spoilers.

    The story expands/changes just as much as it adds and makes it easier to understand the contexts.

    Even the opening scene is like this, and I guarantee: everyone will be shaking from the cold right there!

    The arrangement is flawless. You can feel the Craig Mazin effect in every frame. Cuts and photography enhance the atmosphere. The dialogues and chemistry work
    One thing is certain: there is no idling. No stopping. No fluff.
    There is Last of Us. Pure Last of us. With lots of accurately translated sentences, pictures, and actions. With vibrating characters. Apothecary mode with working action scenes, raw power and emotions, in a scene and universe composed to perfection. For an hour and a half, it takes even those who have never played the game out of reality. Subjective opinion. Give it a shot! It deserves it. If nothing else, because of the work and creativity involved and because it will definitely be a historical piece, just like the game. It's such a good adaptation, I can confidently say: It's never been made before. Surley liked it! Thank you for this experience!    … Expand

I only found the scene where they were caught by the Fedra agent at the end a little weird. But I think that was possibly synonymous s.der Camera Perspective. otherwise everything was exceptionally good. the acting performances, the sets, the infected ones shown so far everything is consistent and accurate. Bella Ramsey after a few minutes I recognized Ellie in her. she's doing it perfectly so far as has Joel.… Expand
