Amazing episode, I would give it a 10 just to mess with all homophobic neanderthals out there. But the chapter itself deserves it, really good side story, really well told and very emotional (unless you are an homophobic neanderthal)

absolutely LOVED the first game, and only the 1st game lol maybe 15 minutes into this episode I was eagerly hoping it would go back to Joel and Ellie. It's a great episode that may deviate from the main story line but helps build the world. What I consider makes this an exceptional episode is that it presents a gay love story that beautifully tells a romantic narrative above a gay story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I waited a week to review this episode. I wanted to replay this section of the game, and rewatch the episode so I could be fair.
Maybe my opinion is colored by personal experience, but I like this story so much better than just another hate filled body hanging from a rafter. Yes, it is a departure from the source material. From "Can I ha..." "No", to "seatbelt" it only progresses the story a little. It provides a bit of context for the relationship between Joel and Ellie, shows how they begin their actual journey, though not much else. But it is truly an amazing story. It is beautiful, and exciting. It is relatable and captivating. And, finally, it is soul wrenching.
This is honestly the most beautiful one hour and fifteen minutes of TV I have watched in over forty years of life. Please don't allow the biases which have been beaten into your skull to ruin it for you. Don't allow your love for the game to overrule the beauty of storytelling.… Expand

One of the best episodes of television I've ever watched. The deviation from the original story has been spot on so far, and getting to know more about Bill and Frank's backstory was awesome.

This episode turned Bill into a powerfully impactful guiding force for Joel. Yes, they got their supplies. Yes, they got their transportation. Incredibly moving story and great expansion of the original’s universe. Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett gave incredible performances. Really hope the show does more one-off episodes like this moving forward.

Una parte donde teníamos que cumplir unos objetivos para conseguir un bien. En el juego funciona, en la serie seguro no tanto. Así que se sacan de la manga una bonita historia que nos hacen conectar con los sentimientos de Joel y al final del episodio, la historia principal continua exactamente igual que en el videojuego. Chapó.
También hablar de la valentía de HBO y de los creadores de la serie por tratar la sexualidad de dos hombres adultos con tanta naturalidad. Visto el odio vertido en redes, queda constancia que estamos lejos como sociedad de normalizar algo tan primario como el amor.… Expand

Loved the show, was actually very conservative and supportive of masculinity....the entire plot was about a guy with lots of guns in his doomsday bunker, who lived on his own until he met someone and fell in love. We have a job to do.” (Sounds pretty masculine to me, regardless of sexual persuasion)

Thing is, that if this was a story about hetrosexual gun loving couple....all the people who have rated this episode 0 would be rating it a 10. Conservatives are the biggest snowflakes...they cannot even handle a fictional story about gun loving gays. Everyone who has rated this episode 0 based on the fact that it shows love between two men....is a weak-minded wimp, who would rather spew their toxic hatred towards the LGBT community then simply going about their lives in peace. Seriously – get a life, haters. And grow a pair.… Expand

Terrific unexpected take on a relevant aspect of a slice of our culture and the way the world loves. The acting is superb and the emotional buildup is unmatched for a TV series episode. Bravo!
