This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. By itself, I think that the episode is great. My problem is that we spent an entire hour revolving around 2 characters who are introduced and both die in this episode. I think it is great to expand on Bill and Frank's backgrounds. I just don't understand why you dedicate an entire hour to them just to immediately kill them both off. Expand

I'm a straight man and my girlfriend and I were both crying by the end of this one. The people criticizing this out of homophobia or disguising their homophobia under the pretense that it "deviates too much from the game" are full of it. Adaptation is not about doing everything 1:1; these characters were improved from the original game. It took some fairly forgettable side characters and made them into characters that I will never forget. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As far as I’m concerned if you rated this episode less than a 8 you don’t have a good grasp of storytelling.

Not even going to point out all the disgusting homophobic comments since that’s a waste of time, but if anyone think it was a boring “filler” that didn’t drive the narrative forward they are wrong.

Not only does this episode give us a touching story, it show also us how people live and survive from a different perspective outside of Joel and Ellie, how Joel knew Bill and Frank, it introduced raiders to the show etc.

The biggest change is unlike the game Tess told Joel to take Ellie to Bill and Frank’s he was going to leave her there. In the game it’s just a whim decision to get a truck so when people say it doesn’t drive the narrative forward they’re wrong or look at things too much on a surface level.

However this episode packs a lot so normies won’t understand it.

It shows what the positive power of love could do to people, in contrast with what we saw mostly in most of the original game. Hats down to the excellent performance of Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett who really give this episode life and make it convincing. It should earn them Emmys for the intricate and heartwrenching presentation in the piano and dinner scenes. Linda Ronstadt's Long Long Time perfectly fits the plot and theme of this episode, thank the show for helping me to discover this hidden gem. The scripts are just powerful and touching, some of the lines may become instant classics at Valentine's Day I guess.
Kindly feel sad for those who cannot appreciate real love in the world and choose to live with their hatred and bigotry. Maybe they just don't deserve it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I felt that the whole story with bill and frank was really beautiful , although Im unsure about the decision of leaving out the whole Bill and Ellie interaction, witch I think was a really good section of the first game. Down the line, dedicating a whole episode to a love story between 2 character who don’t even interact with the main characters and main plot is probably going to be justified , but right now I don’t find it justifiable . Still great hour of Tv Expand

In the third episode we had the chance to see a very human story in the tough environment of a zombie apocalypse. This little space in the horror felt warm and helped picture all the types of stories happening in such a world. The way characters were depicted was tasteful and well-written, honestly, there is nothing I didn't like about it. And it is deeply saddening to see the difference between the previous episodes and this one. So many people justifying rejection for this specific episode in the most ridiculous ways after liking the others... I urge you to revise yourselves. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a amazing story of found love in a lost world. I've played the last of us one 4 times since it came out in 2013, and this version of Bill and Frank is infinitely better then the games version. In the game Joel dosent learn jack **** from Bill. Bill is a paranoid pice of **** in the game, however in the show he goes from that to a loving and caring man. That's the journey that Joel needs to go down, and that's the point of Bill. He shows Joel that he can love again, for Bill he loved his husband for Joel he needs to learn how to love Ellie and accept her as a new daughter. This episode is crucial to bring Joel down this path. Not to mention that we also get a terrific non tragic queer romance story. I've seen this episode 4 time's, and it hasn't even been a week. This will go down as one of the best episodes in TV history, all the hate it's getting is just from angry homophobic **** How else would episode one and two be rated so high, and this episode so low? The only difference is one episode heavily shows queerness in a positive light and the other two don't. Expand

Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well, what a brave decision to forget the main characters and storyline in order to flesh out the backstory of a couple of minor characters from the first game, one of whom only appeared as a corpse. And what a brilliant piece of storytelling it was. In turns sad, funny and heart-breaking. Poignant TV indeed. Expand

This episode is the perfect example of a great adaptation. Yes, the TV show takes some freedom in the relationship of Bill and Frank but their reactions, dialogues and actions are exactly what B & F would do.

Finally a beautiful depicted love story showing gay men simply as regular people with fears, hopes, dreams, and love.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When playing the game, you come across so many story fragments and easter eggs throughout that are never explored in detail. So glad we are getting more than fragments.

This episode is a perfect example of the greatness of this story, Joel and Ellie truly are some of the last of "us". The corpses in the ditch are us. Bill and Frank are us. Tess is us.

I would so be dead if the world was infected, but damn, i hope i would leave a good story behind. *Chefs kiss* Cried like a baby.

Beauty in times of horror can not be easily done, but it's what the last of us was always none for. This episode proofs it.

How amazing for a show based upon a game to take the time and care to depict a couple who love each other so much and in such small but important ways. Relationship goals (excluding the impending end of the human race).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The episode expands on the game's story of Bill and Frank. The story is less raw than the game and I think improves upon the original story with minor deviations to the events laid out in the game. Not only does it make the story a bit more unpredictable for players of the game, it also makes for good story telling. Expand

Didn't mind the deviation from the game as IMO it would not have been that interesting of an adaptation on screen. Moreover the game's resolution to Bill and Frank is rather cynical and does not add much in terms of the overall themes of the show. The deviation does a better job as love is the overall arching theme in the games. Tie-in with Tess' ep 2 words was also well done and builds on Joel and Ellie's relationship. In any case, a 1 to 1 adaptation of the games would be boring as **** If I'd want to experience the same story again I'd just play the games again. Expand

At first I wasn't sure why they devoted so much time to two of the characters shown in this episode. But I was drawn into their story which was very sweet and brought an understanding to what it would be like to survive an apocalypse. Beautiful episode from a fairly generic show. I was balling at the end of the story. It's a refreshing change of pace.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The characters were gay back in 2013. The Last of Us has many gay characters and has always been LGBT friendly. In fact, Ellie is gay. The review bombers aren't actually fans of the games or the series. Just homophobic. If you want to criticize how the episode is different from the story, then do that. This is actually a great piece of cinema, either way, and it doesn't deserve the hate. You might have been "tricked" so to speak, but would prefer to have a boring predictable episode every time? Most TV shows "trick" you by leading you somewhere you weren't expecting to go. And for those who say they're just "side characters" the plot with Bill is very important because that's how they get a vehicle. Even if they did it exactly like the video game, the characters would still be gay, and Bill would still be a major part of the plot. They changed Tess' death scene and there was no outrage over that. Hmmm. Expand
