"The Flash" is running out of gas. This show started out with great expectations, especially having Harrison Wells/ Eboard Thawne as the main villain. He should not have been killed off after the first season. The character of Barry Allen went from a happy-go-lucky likeable person who appreciated his speed abilities to this brooding individual. This season had so much potential but unfortunately it was completely wasted. The idea of a villain who literally could not be beat could have been fantastic. One big issue was many episodes were self contained episodes with their own villain that added nothing to the overall season. The new characters introduced this season weren't compelling and I did not care about them. This season is overall disappointing and proves, yet again, that this show has lost its way. The first two seasons were great but seasons three and four doesn't even come close. It is truly unfortunate but I think the only way this show can survive is if season five is a soft reboot. The final scene hints at a huge change but I'm not expecting much in season five. Expand

The additions of Hartley Sawyer as Ralph Dibny and Neil Sandilands as The Thinker provides a breath of fresh air for “The Flash”. However, the second half of the season falls flat in the treatment of the main villain, and there are plenty of other storylines that disappoint.

So much potential, but being wasted away by bad writing and "plotforce". The Flash is basically an idiot that keeps forgetting he has superspeed and can't make any decisions by himself in the heat of battle without Iris telling him to "Run fast, Barry!"

The full season long story arc is hurting this show. Each season is now a big serial script trying to best a villain the Star Labs team is responsible for creating in the first place. Now we are to believe a super smart man arranged events so that Barry has to follow in the footsteps of his father and rot in jail for a murder he did not commit? All Barry would have had to do was remove the body from his place and clean up the staged crime scene at super speed. Frame up neatly averted. Bad writing and horrible plot design as far as I’m concerned. Let’s get real and stop putting the main character in “victim” mode. Weak and contrived is how this plays.

If this is how the writers choose to continue, then it makes the case that the Flash and Star Labs need to stand down for the sake of Central City.

While The Flash is consistently more fun than the other CW show I watch (Arrow), it has become quite repetitive over the past two seasons. It's always the same: a villain is introduced, said villain gets more and more powerful, Team Flash is unable to beat said villain, and then they miraculously figure out how to beat said villain when the city is on the brink of destruction. It's always the same: a villain is introduced, said villain gets more and more powerful, Team Flash is unable to beat said villain, and then they miraculously figure out how to beat said villain when the city is on the brink of destruction. Is that the general outline of most superhero shows/movies? Sure, but over a 23 episode season this premise gets pretty old. I think that this still has lots to like for teen audiences, but I'm kind of over it at this point. Expand

The villain of this season is definitely the weakest in the series. I get that they wanted to get away from the speedster formula, but they didn't do it well.

The show now has the space to give its core characters time to interact and have meaningful plot lines, even though the premiere is a little bit of a mess.

On the whole, The Flash season 4 is off to a terrific start. Setting aside its past self-seriousness (and even taking light jabs at it along the way), the show appears to have recalibrated into something brighter, more fun and far more in line with the source material.
