"The Flash" is running out of gas. This show started out with great expectations, especially having Harrison Wells/ Eboard Thawne as the main villain. This season had so much potential but unfortunately it was completely wasted. The idea of a villain who literally could not be beat could have been fantastic. One big issue was many episodes were self contained episodes with their own villain that added nothing to the overall season. The new characters introduced this season weren't compelling and I did not care about them. This season is overall disappointing and proves, yet again, that this show has lost its way. The first two seasons were great but seasons three and four doesn't even come close. It is truly unfortunate but I think the only way this show can survive is if season five is a soft reboot. The final scene hints at a huge change but I'm not expecting much in season five. Expand

The show, after the first couple of seasons, which were original and well done, now features adulterous sexual scenes for our youth to emulate, superfluous homosexuality which is injected into a scene but which has nothing to do with the object of the show, and show plots that are no more than mirror images of previous plots showing the poor and limited imagination of the writers and directors. This superhero, like those before him, is not faithful to the original intent of the DC comic series. The writers ought to be ashamed of themselves and the cast has lowered their standards by emulating yet another soap opera with all of it's drama and bleeding heart personality quirks in true modern super hero style. This season has had a bit of a weak opening so far, but it is still a very enjoyable show. The Flash has always been a very fun, very good show, and it still is, even though this is shaping up to the worst opening to a season yet.

This season of the show is so far my favorite by a longshot. From the samuroid, to Barry's return, to Caitlin's redemption, to Barry's new suit, to "this house is b***'n, to the plot twisting scene including the thinker, and that incredible hinting line I'm thinking", this season is epic in every possible way. update: episode two wasn't as incredible and likable as episode 1, but thereThis season of the show is so far my favorite by a longshot. This new episode also got the chance to show Barry's new suit, and ending with another cliffhanger involving the thinker. He had a conversation with his assistant, and then began to locate other meta humans, but just as the computer finishes loading, the episode ends, leaving us on a cliffhanger. Who will the new meta be? Hazard, a returning character, or a noob to the series? Expand

The additions of Hartley Sawyer as Ralph Dibny and Neil Sandilands as The Thinker provides a breath of fresh air for “The Flash”. However, the second half of the season falls flat in the treatment of the main villain, and there are plenty of other storylines that disappoint.

So much potential, but being wasted away by bad writing and "plotforce". The Flash is basically an idiot that keeps forgetting he has superspeed and can't make any decisions by himself in the heat of battle without Iris telling him to "Run fast, Barry!"

The start of season is terrific, so the new villian, but not all the chapters have the same capacity for thrills, every one with references of pop culture. The final chapter is a roller coaster that saves the day.

The full season long story arc is hurting this show. Each season is now a big serial script trying to best a villain the Star Labs team is responsible for creating in the first place. Now we are to believe a super smart man arranged events so that Barry has to follow in the footsteps of his father and rot in jail for a murder he did not commit? All Barry would have had to do was remove the body from his place and clean up the staged crime scene at super speed. Frame up neatly averted. Bad writing and horrible plot design as far as I’m concerned. Let’s get real and stop putting the main character in “victim” mode. Weak and contrived is how this plays.

If this is how the writers choose to continue, then it makes the case that the Flash and Star Labs need to stand down for the sake of Central City.

This season felt pretty genuine with it's protagonist's rebirth and the antagonist's drive, plus the acting was better than the previous seasons. Also it managed to evade the issue of pacing this time around and every single episode served the main plot's unveiling, and there where no immersion breaking side missions. Also the crossover was amazing as always before, between the Arrowverse TV series. The acting was decent to, not the greatest I would say in the emotional moments, but the hearth warming family vibe was there again and glowed with positive energy. The plot was rather interesting and given the origin of the villain this season also managed to not fall on the cliche side as far as story goes. The whole season was a rather good watch even though the plot points where rather predictable at times. The cinematography was average at best with the way scenes where shot, and sadly a huge cut of action scenes this season did not help the weight of the situation. The visuals where awful as always with the reused assets in the sound effect area, was also bad for the overall value of the season.
Overall this was a good season for a good origin story for the Flash one of the most likable characters in the DC universe.

While The Flash is consistently more fun than the other CW show I watch (Arrow), it has become quite repetitive over the past two seasons. It's always the same: a villain is introduced, said villain gets more and more powerful, Team Flash is unable to beat said villain, and then they miraculously figure out how to beat said villain when the city is on the brink of destruction. Is that the general outline of most superhero shows/movies? Sure, but over a 23 episode season this premise gets pretty old. I think that this still has lots to like for teen audiences, but I'm kind of over it at this point. Expand

The villain of this season is definitely the weakest in the series. I get that they wanted to get away from the speedster formula, but they didn't do it well.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Season 4 almost scared me, since I thought it wouldn't have Flash or it will replace Barry with Wally and team. Thankfully Barry returns back with a terrible idea and doesn't just stop there. There is a new villain called The Thinker and the way he is shown to talk to Flash, it seems as though he is being controlled by his wife Marlize (which would have been a way better plot). I actually thought this is the plot, and that is the reason why when Barry is telling Marlize that The Thinker will discard her when she's of no use to him she says he won't. Turns out she was just delusional in her love, and that's exactly what happens. What a waste of opportunity! But other than that there wasn't anything else to complain about. After the Nazis attack the plot becomes more coherent. The idea behind Barry getting arrested because of a misunderstanding was way better than what it sounds like. The Thinker absorbing all the enemies was really making me angry, and seeing him die in the end was very satisfactory. Season 4 also introduced my new favourite character, The Elongated Man. Expand

On the whole, The Flash season 4 is off to a terrific start. Setting aside its past self-seriousness (and even taking light jabs at it along the way), the show appears to have recalibrated into something brighter, more fun and far more in line with the source material.
