This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Acting is top notch, the cinematography as well. The show is still a comic book brought to TV so it's not incredibly deep. Still, it hits quite a few important points especially on the issues of systemic racism in the USA, the manipulation of soldiers by the US government and the neglect of their PTSD. The treatment of the "Flagsmashers" was far more problematic. Here is a group with incredibly humane goals and a strong moral compass suddenly turning into terrorists? They also seem to become almost omnipotent towards the latter half of the show despite having almost no resources in comparison to the corrupt governments and companies that they are fighting. This is either very lazy writing or just downright capitalist propaganda. Wouldn't put it past a terrible company like Disney. Without this MAJOR flaw, my score would have been much higher. Expand

Metacritic says in this textbox that "your review may be edited for content".

Let me translate for you what they are trying to say:
"If your opinion conflicts with our ideology or the ideology of our financial overlords, we will censor you."

Basically, the show had lots of potential BEFORE its conception. I can imagine many ways to write an excellent Falcon and the Winter Soldier script.
This is not it.

What this is about:
White people are bad.
America is bad.
Black people are perpetual victims, oppressed saints.
Women are strong, aw yeaaaaah!
After half the population was brought back we suddenly need communism.

I'd like to thank the Chinese Communist Party for sponsoring this show in order to put a wedge between American and American. Good job, guys. I honestly bow before your brilliance. Hey, if the US population is dumb enough to let you toy with their collective psyche and group cohesion, than they might very well deserve to be torn apart by you.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Even though I gave it a 6 out of 10, through 5 episodes, this show has been very underwhelming. Ignoring the somewhat forced and divisive politics, it seems like the the director and/or writers haven't watched any of the previous MCU films. Outside of when they casually remind the audience via dialogue that Bucky has been injected with the super soldier serum, you'd never be able to guess the way he is constantly getting easily defeated. Not only was he injected with the serum, he was a trained Soldier and a trained assassin. He's got a vibranium arm. He's gone toe-to-toe (some may even argue beaten) Black Widow, Captain America, Iron Man, and Black Panther in hand-to-hand combat... but he gets manhandled by some revolutionary/terrorist refugees who have been injected with the super soldier serum but haven't had nearly similar training nor do they have any metal appendages?! Outside of when the "Winter Soldier" beat up the bar thugs in Madripoor, the fight choreography has taken a notable decline from how it was with the Russo Brothers as directors. Zemo is significantly less intimidating than he was in Civil War (although, I am excited to see him going to Wakanda... that could be really interesting, I wonder if he'll be in Black Panther 2). Between WandaVision and this show, Disney needs to stop teasing "huge and exciting" cameos because - unless something comes of it in episode 6 - the Madame Hydra scene was not that exciting nor does it even seem critical to the story that the show is trying to tell. Instead, it seems to just be a not-so-subtle tease of things to come, which is disappointing because outside of end credit stingers, Marvel has been pretty good about telling the story they want without lazy, in-your-face teasers that a certain other super hero franchise - dare I say, cinematic universe - relies so much on. Also, after this, I think the MCU needs to ease up on the super soldier serum. Captain America TFA revolved around it with Cap and Red Skull being at odds. The Incredible Hulk mentioned the Hulk originated from Bruce experimenting with a super soldier serum and gamma radiation being "the key," and Abomination was a similar byproduct of the serum. Captain America WS introduced Bucky as being injected with the serum. Captain America CW showed that Howard Stark recreated the serum (not until 1991) and Hydra created a handful more super soldiers that were quickly killed off. Now this show is like: Oh and there was another super soldier during the Korean war and there are 10 or so people who got their hands on another version of the serum. I understand it's tough to come up with legitimate threats against Bucky and Falcon, but come on... Alexander Pierce (Hydra) and Zemo were great threats and neither were super soldiers. They knew they weren't a physical threat so they attempted to outmaneuver Captain America. This show should've done something similar. Bottom line... through 5 episodes, I'm not sure what the purpose of this show is outside of political commentary and establishing new characters in the Marvel universe. It doesn't seem like the writers and/or director care about or are familiar with the primary characters. I mean for goodness sake... Endgame ended with Falcon taking up the shield and Bucky dealing with his past. Episode 5 ended with Falcon taking up the shield and Bucky dealing with his past. It's got some entertaining bits and I'm a big fan of the MCU to date, so... 6 out of 10 is generous, but it's my score. Expand

É um show incrível e tem uma crítica sociopolítica bastante interessante e é INCRÍVEL a forma como estão evoluindo e desenvolvendo Sam como sucessor natural do escudo de Steven.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This show is another example of the trend in superhero stories where the "villain" has a completely reasonable and morally completely-right ideology, but the writers shoehorn in non-sequitur violence that, if you look at it critically, doesn't align with that ideology, and they insert it in there to make that ideology seem unreasonable and "too far", in case the audience changes sides away from one that aligns with the status quo. The entire "Legitimate Activist Who Goes Too Far" subplot is genuinely bad writing. It is lazy and hackneyed, and disingenuous. Hollywood's favorite moral is that anyone who wants to make the world structurally better is a dangerous evil extremist who is doing it wrong, while private individuals with no accountability should be able to subdue them with violence by any means necessary because protecting the status quo is the definition of heroism. And all of that is on top of the military propaganda, and the harmful message of "actually authoritarianism and unfettered power are good, because they're only bad when they're in the wrong hands, and they're normally in the right hands, so everything is good actually". And the false equivalence of the flag smashers' ideologies to nazi ideology is not only stupid but is dangerous. This show was so badly written, and the actors deserved so much better. Expand

I’m enjoying it. The winter soldier was always my favorite character and getting to enjoy more of bucky’s characters is awesome!

The actors are great, some story beats are cool and interesting... But everything else sucks. It's sloppy in editing, pacing, writing, etc.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So far the series is kinda boring tbh. the "new captain America" is in my opinion not all bad as they want to portray him. The fight Scenes are really cool though and the way its filmed is 10 out of 10. Also the political messaging is very obvious. For MCU tv shows I would recommend WandaVision 9 times out of ten over this. Expand

Just not up to the standard set by the other MCU films and TV shows. The first episode was okay, and the show basically lost me halfway through the second. It continues to be painful to watch.

Not subtle. At all. But it's good to see Disney trying something that's a mix of old and new. I'm certainly interested in the show, and I hope it'll tackle its themes and villains well moving forward.

Much like WandaVision it feels like a bloated Marvel movie. It's just meh. Not much else to say about it.

The first episode has so many silly things going on that you could have told the story in 5 minutes, meaning that there is 40 minutes of boreness.

Not impressed, I mean sure it's big budget and the effects are great, however the acting is mediocre and the story doesn't really make me want to watch more episodes.

Great start, new Marvel tv series just after the amazing end of Wandavision. From the first episode, I already know, that this will be only better and there will be more action.
