I didn’t really like the show for 2 reasons :
- too political, it is annoying, Captain Morality !
- the complacency with the terrorists is almost out of the line. IRL they have their own motivation as well…

Hawkeye was way more entertaining

The heroes, Sam and Bucky, kill a bunch of dudes throughout the series, but the refuse to kill a psychopathic terrorist who, on screen, kills dozens of people to create fear so that people will do what she wants. Sam even says that we shouldn't call her a terrorist... what? She creates terror and uses violence to achieve political goals, the literal definition of a terrorist.

Disney should leave politics to people much smarter than their writers. This is very bad.

Not impressed, I mean sure it's big budget and the effects are great, however the acting is mediocre and the story doesn't really make me want to watch more episodes.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So far the series is kinda boring tbh. the "new captain America" is in my opinion not all bad as they want to portray him. The fight Scenes are really cool though and the way its filmed is 10 out of 10. Also the political messaging is very obvious. For MCU tv shows I would recommend WandaVision 9 times out of ten over this. Expand

Much like WandaVision it feels like a bloated Marvel movie. It's just meh. Not much else to say about it.

Following the phenomenal Wandavision, this was surprisingly a complete mess.

I liked the Falcon backstory, Zemo and some of Bucky's arc, but for a show with great budget and actors that was full of compelling ideas (Identity of the Power broker? Refugee super soldiers? A black Captain America?), it completely failed to deliver.

Part of the issue was that these ideas where never really picked up and used, they were just mentioned and then quickly discarded.

The other noteworthy flaw was the moralizing "tell, don't show" and tendency to be inconsistent about character motivation and powers from scene to scene.

I am not looking forward to Captain America 4 based on this series.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The promise of Marvel on Disney+ was that we'd have room for stories that couldn't fit into a two-to-three hour structure. You'd expect a story like that to deliver more emotional resonance, to be able to add more pathos and depth.

Instead, we get "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier" - a story which is filled to the brim with interesting concepts that are never given the space necessary for exploration. What's left, then, is a boring, meandering slog through big, whiz-bang set pieces and Easter eggs meant to set up the rest of the MCU's Phase 4. After this wretched installment, though, it may be time for Fiege and co. To just give up. There's nothing here worth pursuing and exploring. It's all smoke and mirrors.

More than that, it's a deeply cynical piece of anti-populist, pro-corporate tripe. The actors are far better than the material they've been given here and it shows. Erin Kellyman, in particular, is wasted in her role as Karli Morgenthau. Wyatt Russell has some interesting layers to his portrayal of John Waker, but his whole arc's truncates and abruptly abandoned midway through the finale so he can go back to being a hero. Anthony Mackie's great, but he never gets to be the protagonist of his own tale. Things just happen *at* him.

All in all, this series should provoke deep concern about the future of the MCU and whether Marvel's hot streak is over.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Even though I gave it a 6 out of 10, through 5 episodes, this show has been very underwhelming. Ignoring the somewhat forced and divisive politics, it seems like the the director and/or writers haven't watched any of the previous MCU films. Outside of when they casually remind the audience via dialogue that Bucky has been injected with the super soldier serum, you'd never be able to guess the way he is constantly getting easily defeated. Not only was he injected with the serum, he was a trained Soldier and a trained assassin. He's got a vibranium arm. He's gone toe-to-toe (some may even argue beaten) Black Widow, Captain America, Iron Man, and Black Panther in hand-to-hand combat... but he gets manhandled by some revolutionary/terrorist refugees who have been injected with the super soldier serum but haven't had nearly similar training nor do they have any metal appendages?! Outside of when the "Winter Soldier" beat up the bar thugs in Madripoor, the fight choreography has taken a notable decline from how it was with the Russo Brothers as directors. Zemo is significantly less intimidating than he was in Civil War (although, I am excited to see him going to Wakanda... that could be really interesting, I wonder if he'll be in Black Panther 2). Between WandaVision and this show, Disney needs to stop teasing "huge and exciting" cameos because - unless something comes of it in episode 6 - the Madame Hydra scene was not that exciting nor does it even seem critical to the story that the show is trying to tell. Instead, it seems to just be a not-so-subtle tease of things to come, which is disappointing because outside of end credit stingers, Marvel has been pretty good about telling the story they want without lazy, in-your-face teasers that a certain other super hero franchise - dare I say, cinematic universe - relies so much on. Also, after this, I think the MCU needs to ease up on the super soldier serum. Captain America TFA revolved around it with Cap and Red Skull being at odds. The Incredible Hulk mentioned the Hulk originated from Bruce experimenting with a super soldier serum and gamma radiation being "the key," and Abomination was a similar byproduct of the serum. Captain America WS introduced Bucky as being injected with the serum. Captain America CW showed that Howard Stark recreated the serum (not until 1991) and Hydra created a handful more super soldiers that were quickly killed off. Now this show is like: Oh and there was another super soldier during the Korean war and there are 10 or so people who got their hands on another version of the serum. I understand it's tough to come up with legitimate threats against Bucky and Falcon, but come on... Alexander Pierce (Hydra) and Zemo were great threats and neither were super soldiers. They knew they weren't a physical threat so they attempted to outmaneuver Captain America. This show should've done something similar. Bottom line... through 5 episodes, I'm not sure what the purpose of this show is outside of political commentary and establishing new characters in the Marvel universe. It doesn't seem like the writers and/or director care about or are familiar with the primary characters. I mean for goodness sake... Endgame ended with Falcon taking up the shield and Bucky dealing with his past. Episode 5 ended with Falcon taking up the shield and Bucky dealing with his past. It's got some entertaining bits and I'm a big fan of the MCU to date, so... 6 out of 10 is generous, but it's my score. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Acting is top notch, the cinematography as well. The show is still a comic book brought to TV so it's not incredibly deep. Still, it hits quite a few important points especially on the issues of systemic racism in the USA, the manipulation of soldiers by the US government and the neglect of their PTSD. The treatment of the "Flagsmashers" was far more problematic. Here is a group with incredibly humane goals and a strong moral compass suddenly turning into terrorists? They also seem to become almost omnipotent towards the latter half of the show despite having almost no resources in comparison to the corrupt governments and companies that they are fighting. This is either very lazy writing or just downright capitalist propaganda. Wouldn't put it past a terrible company like Disney. Without this MAJOR flaw, my score would have been much higher. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This show can be summed up by its character development:

Bucky - Started strong, but had a magical "therapeutic breakthrough" in the span of 10 minutes. That's not how PTSD works.

Sam - I honestly think the writers didn't know what to do with this character. The only person he has any chemistry with is Bucky. Sure, they hit the milestones, but the road taken was lacking. Why did Sam let himself be killed by a terrorist?

Walker - Saw some real character development. I hated him in the beginning, but he had a real moment of redemption in the final episode. Karli - Walks like a terrorist, Talks like a terrorist. I don't care how much you want me to like this character Disney. She blows up civilians and tries to kill world leaders for politics. Who ok'ed this?

Zemo - Another case of the above, but for some reason he comes across as much more likeable. Maybe it's because he tries to kill terrorists before they become a problem and is fully aware of what he is. He also doesn't betray Sam & Bucky.

Sharon - This character made a complete 180 in 5 years. I hope Marvel can justify her motivations in the future, because right now it feels forced.

Overall, 2/6 of these characters were fleshed out, and neither of them are in the show's title. Falcon and the Winter Soldier leave much to be desired.

Sam is a vet, lost a wingman and councils vets, but has no time for Walker a vet? Bucky is the uber vet and has no time for Walker a vet? Did the people who wrote this broken consistency BS even watch the Captain America related movies?

Sam acts like a little baby when given the Shield? He is vet/patriot he's already done service for his country. The Iron Patriot was flying around doing his bit covered in Star and Stripes. Not crying like a baby over doing his duty for HIS country.

Why is Sam even broke? His is a save the world save the universe AVENGER!!! Sam could cash in on fame and sponsorships. People would be throwing free stuff at him all the time. He could write a biography and it would sell out WORLD WIDE. My time as an Avenger saving the world and the Universe. Nah he broke in the hood type of deal. Yeah right calling total BS on that.

OMG why does Sam pander to murderous terrorists? This lazy bums just want free stuff and that free stuff belonged to others. Why do the terrorist super soldiers look unfit? Cap and Bucky are well fit and Buff. The Flag Smashers dumb name how do even smash a flag made of cloth. The series is dumb, illogical, preachy and inconsistent in "BASIC" MCU lore.

This is what I can call failing upwards, because these jokers get to do the Cap America 4 movie LOL. Taking a line from Sam/Falcon "Do Better". Loose out on an original character like Falcon for tokenised Cap who simps for murderous terrorists. Who just want free unearned stuff. Turn the sound off and I can give it a 4/10 for presentation. Sound on maybe a generous 2/10 for this low story effort.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It had moments and some characters that were truly great. It is destroyed by a ham-fisted political message. The main villain Karli is entirely unsympathetic. She bemoans her problems while simultaneously burnings innocents alive. Falcon is even worse, particularly in the finale. He treats her as a tragic figure after her death and gives a speech that, while well meaning, is completely nonsensical. The show treats this nonsense as if people of great authority would actually listen. He ends up completing Karli’s goal for her. He did have a nice moment with Isaiah Bradley though at the end.
